How do I create a pivot table in numbers?

SO HERE'S WHAT I GOT TO WORK:
Truth is all the real functionality of categories and pivot tables exists in the formulas. You just have to
Create a new table with a list of the categories in the header column.
Add SUMIFS() formula from the browser into the next column.
Enter your arguments and make sure to check "Preserve Column" for each of them.
Although it might not be apparent, you can enter multiple test value and condition pairs.
While I admit the formulas are not nearly so graphic as categories, they are cleaner and less restricting, and they aren't any more difficult to work with than pivot tables.

  • Question on how to create a pivot table

    Hi,
I am trying to create a dynamic pivot table (the number of column and row layers change for each request) and I cannot use a data base structure to back it up.
I thought of doing it through a managed bean but in order to do it I need to know how to create the PivotTableModel.
The pivot table model requires a data source object and I do not know how to create it to support multiple row and column layers.
Is there a default data source object that I can extend, or better yet is there a written example on how to create a pivot table model using a managed bean.
    Thanks,

  • How to create a pivot table similar to excel

I would like to learn how to create a pivot table, similar to excel, thanks.

Numbers does not have  pivot table function but can sort data, and summarize data.  If you can provide an example of the data you want to analyze I am certain we can help you in building summary tables.

  • How do I paste a table from Numbers or Excel into Ibook Author exactly as the original?

I am new to iMac and Ibook Author.
I am writing a statistical paper in Ibooks Author.
I have Chapter heading, now section heading and body.  I want to paste a table from numbers or excel into my iBook as this has the results of my analysis.
As part of my analysis, I want to copy a 5 column table with 633 rows, which is essentially my table of data.  I have the table in numbers and excel.
When I copy the table in numbers or excel, followed by pasting (CmD V) into iBooks, I get the first 20 rows in a table format and the remainder of the table is missing.  The table appears to end at the end of the page.
I can not figure out how to paste the entire data as my table.
    Its holding me back...
    Any ideas?

    Hello Loquitir,
I am not fully sure if I understand but I gather since there are so many rows only a certain amount fits on a single page.
How many rows does actually fit on a page in iBooks Author?
There is a method that would look pretty cool that is used to create a double page spread that would look great but instead of having a double page you could maybe have three or four pages.
Here is a quick idea that I stuck together, additionally when you are copying and pasting form Numbers to iBooks Author just select the cells that you want.
Copy and paste within iBooks Author and then go back and get the next row of the table that you want.
I hope I am clear in what I am describing.

  • About  how to export excel pivot tables

    Hello all!
I am currently working with the "help" of an oracle consultor from Oracle (Consulting) Spain, but she (and no one of her working mates) is not able to give me an answer about my doubt.
The problem is: I know that Oracle Discoverer plus is able to export oracle Olap crosstabs automatically to excel pivot tables. It must do it in some way, but no one, here in Spain, is able to tell me how.
I suppose Oracle engineers have developed a Java Api to do it, but , in Spain, it is useless trying to get this information from Oracle (an this is not because this is a "top secret information" , this is just because they do not know their products, just it!).
The only help that I had from them regarding this issue was a reference to Jexcelapi. I do not want to reinvent the wheel, thus why I am trying to get any help from you. Please, you are my last chance!
Does any body know how discoverer exports Oracle Olap crosstabs to excel pivot tables?
Than you very much for your help in advance.
    Best regards,
    Miguel A. Vico.

    Hello again!
Yes , you are right, but that is not my problem; my problem is that I need to do what Discoverer does, but using Oracle BI beans technology. An this technology gives me no chance to do it .
BI beans exports to CSV and Excel format , but not to excel pivot tables, and I would need to do it .
Could you tell me what is the API, Discoverer uses to get this job done?
    Best regards,
    Miguel

  • How Can I Add Pivot Tables of Excel Into JSP Pages

    Hello all,
Basing upon a query to database, i wanted to add a Microsoft Excel pivot table functionality in JSP page [with the result of query].
Is it possible to create a Pivot Table in JSP with dynamic data from database ??
Can any body help me in solving this issue ???
    Thanks & Regards
    Krishna

There are a few alternatives to doing this (depending on the clients you are serving this page up for).
    Going the pure HTML
There is an open source project called JPivot which provides an HTML front end for Pivot Table (using tag libraries)
Going the Microsoft Office route there are a few options:
    1) POI HSSF ( http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/index.html) allows you to "update" an existing Pivot table by replacing data values contained in a template pivot table.
    2) Use the open source XELEM api (xelem.sourceforge.net) which produces SpreadsheetML (Micorsofts current XML file Format). At present, I don't believe this handles creating a pivot table from scratch (you have to manually create the Pivot Table template, read in the template (with XELEM) and update the data values in the template before writing it out. (the same holds true for POI)
    3) Commercially the company I work for (www.workbeans.com) is writing a pure Java Pivot Table API that will allow you to create a Pivot Table in the Excel SpreadsheetML file format from scratch. (supported by Office 2000, XP and 2003). The Pivot table functionality isn't slated until a future release (Oct. 2005), so if you can wait until then we could help you further.

  • How do I create overlapping tables in Numbers?

I've been fighting with numbers and so far I've found the users guide and help more frustrating than useful.  After much searching, I found out that numbers apparently can't do what I wanted to do (dynamically create the entries in a popup from data on a table.  I *DO NOT* want to edit the popup items directly).
So I went hunting for a second choice...which I found an acceptable solution, except there are a few critical details missing.  The discussion had this bit in it below.  My question is, how do I create this locked table underneath another cell? I've been unable to find anything searching via google, in numbers help, or the numbers users guide and I'm beyond frustrated right now.  I need step by step instructions and please don't assume I know anything about numbers.
"The trick is to have a locked table underneath the input cell. The formula will be in the locked table and the input cell will have a transparent Fill so you can see the underlying table content."

Starting point: A single sheet document with one table. For simplicity, I'll assume the one table is the one inserted on the original sheet, and has not been resized or otherwise reformatted.
    • Insert a second table (Table 2"). Choose Plain as the type. (ie. No header rows, No header columns)
         - Use the Column and Row Handle (bottom right corner of the table); drag it up and left to reduce the table to a single cell.
    • Edit the contents of this cell to contain the formula you wish.
    • Click on the Table 2 icon in the Sheets list at the left to Select Table 2. You will see square handles at the corners (and in the center of the top and bottom edges) of Table 2.
    * Drag Table 2 (the table itself, not the icon) into position in front of Table 1 (the original table). If necessary, use the arrow keys to nudge it into position.
    • Go to the Arrange menu and choose Lock. The square handles will change to grey x characters, indicating the selected object is locked.
    • Click on the Table 1 icon to select Table 1.
    • Go Arrange > Bring to Front. Table 2 and its content will disappear behind Table 1.
    • Open the Inspector and choose the Table inspector. Find the Cell Background section, and click the Color Well below the popup menu (which should say "Color Fill").
    • The Color Picker will open. Move the Opacity slider to the left end of the bar (0). The content of Table 2 will become visible again.
    • To hide the contents of Table 2 when an entry is made in the cell in front of it, you will need either:
a formula in the Table 2 cell that changes its value to "" (a null string) when the cell in front is not empty, or
a conditional formatting rule that places an opaque white fill in the front cell when it is not empty.
The formula or the conditional rule will depend on the possible values to be placed in the front cell.

  • HT201280 How can I rotate a table in "Numbers" ?

I have 'Copy'd a 'chart' to a second sheet, rotated and expanded it for higher resolution and ease of reading.
I then copied a small 3 column x 2 row table, which is linked to the main chart table on sheet 1, onto the chart in sheet 2, showing (and updating) significant figures from the chart when figures are added or changed in the main table.  Unfortunately, while I am able to position the small table strategically on the chart I cannot rotate it like I have the chart, to make it read sensibly.
Can anyone help as to how I may rotate the small table on sheet 2, please ?

Thanks Jeff.   I had investigated doing just as you said but being new to 'Numbers', I could not find the means so I looked for another method and oviously, run up against another stopper. As is the way, 10 minutes after posting the question I spotted the little icons, bottom left of the screen and behold, they work. Thanks again.
There are a number of things in 'Numbers' that seem 'Not to work' for no apparent reason.  In particular the the 'Chart colour' drop-down menu has no effect on anything as far as I can see. I have to use the menu bar.
Thanks also to "Wayne Contello" I did try that but, as you say, all interactiveness is lost. I also tried it in Excel but gave up. To much trouble.

  • How to know in (Pivot)Table Enter/Mouse for submition

    Hello,
i recently use an editable PivotTable, which writes back the manipulated values in a BaseRowsetModel. I use the valueChangeListener in the RichTextFields in my PivotTable to recognize whether somebody changes a cellvalue, to write it back to my model. (i found no other Listeners to do so)
My problem is that there are two ways to submit Data in the TableGUI : On the one hand you can press Enter - the cell below will be selected after that. On the other hand you can click with the mouse anywhere after filling something in. Both ways submit the Data and the ValueChangeListener recognizes it.
But in my backingBean i need to know, where to fill my dataModel in the background, so i look for the SelectedCell and fill the evtl.getSource().getValue() in it.
The Point is, after pressing ENTER, the next cell below it is selected AND the Listener fires after that - so i fill the next cell below with the new value :( . When i click with the mouse everything works fine because the edited cell keeps selected.
-> Now my question : is there a way to find out which kind of input i used? can i know inside the ValueChangeListener that i pressed the EnterKey? Or is there a way to force the cell to stay selected after pressing ENTER and not to jump to the next cell?
    Thanks for help!

Not sure but you can use Javascript with clientlistener to know which key has been pressed or mouse click
check this blog entry it shows how to display LOV on F9 key you can take the same logic but with other key

  • Can numbers perform pivot tables

can you create pivot tables on numbers the same way you can with excel?

No no pivot tables in numbers.... however...
Pivot tables are generally a fast method of using functions already existing to perform summarization, therefore even though they do not exist as an automatic function in numbers, you can use the basic CountIF, SumIF, etc... functions in a table you make to perform the same functionality. This has been done by many of us over the years and it works fairly well. You lose some of the "pivot" ability and no drag and drop. so it takes a little more planning beforehand.
