If the phone does not start, press and hold the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.
If this does not help, try to connect in recovery mode to iTunes, explained in this article:

You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.
Unless you've iPhone 4S (looks similar to iPhone 4)

And that's exactly the problem, because everyone should have their own account for iCloud. You can share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store purchases, but you shouldn't do that for iCloud (Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. ... ...and Photos). The problem of using the same account together could mean that only your dad's photos were stored.

No iPhone records voicemail messages. Visual voicemail is simply an interface to the carriers voicemail servers.
Contact the carrier to troubleshoot the issue with their voicemail.

It's possible you've got a 'hot corner' set up. If you have and move the mouse to a certain corner of the screen it'll do as you describe. Have a look in System Preferences>Mission Control, bottom left of the window click on the 'Hot Corners' button and see if there is anything in there.

IPod abrubtly cuts off and only comes back on when you unlock the hold button. why and how can i fix this?

I listen to my iPod Classic at work and it kept cutting off today out of nowhere and this hasn't happened before. I have it in my pocket so I have the HOLD button in the lock position so the wheel won't get pressed while in my pocket. I figured it died on me but I had just charged it last night so I took it out and unlocked the HOLD button. Well, the music immediately came back on. It happened a few more times and i figured maybe it was the song or something so I changed albums and it kept happening. Every time it would cut off, I'd unlock the HOLD button and it'd come back on every time, almost like it was paused or something. Has anyone experienced this? if so, how do I fix it? I really don't want to buy a new iPod since I have little money because of school, bills, and photography/film equipment. Help? thanks.

I'm having a hard time finding an answer to this too. This is what is going on. Sometimes the iPod (iPod Classic 160GB) does not "like" the songs I've downloaded from cds. Sometimes it does. I think it always plays whatever songs I've purchased on iTunes though. The other day I synced it to add two new cds and somehow the iPod was wiped clean--no songs, no pictures, nothing. I did a reset and the songs came back but now these problems:
1. The song will play for a few seconds then it either skips to the next song.
2. The song won't play, just skips to the next song.
3. Everything just stops, the iPod is still 'on' but won't play anything.
4. Right now it's playing an Aimee Mann album that I downloaded but it wouldn't play the Joni Mitchell album just before. Is the iPod making a comment on my taste in music?
Flipping the lock back and forth helps sometimes, but not always.

Contacts should be synched to your contact manager app on your computer or a cloud service.
ITunes media should be synched to your computer.
Not sure where the data for iA writer is stored, but would have investigated this prior to updating my software for sure.
If cannot get back your data by restoring your phone from your most recent backup, then the data are gone.

Whatever version of Leopard you purchase, I suggest updating it to 10.5.8 which should have everything you require. To update Leopard download and install Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update. Alternatively, open Software Update and install all the recommended updates. That will include the above updater.

I have downloaded the most recent version of iTunes to my laptop and am smart enough to have backed up my entire phone to my laptop before updating the iOS software, but this is the third time that a software update has bricked my phone (first an iPhone 4S then a 5) and I don't have the time to go to the Apple store and wait for my everything to restore. I really think it's the apple servers because it errors 3014 right when iTunes says "verifying phone....." something.... It goes away so fast I can't read the rest, but I think that is the step where it verifies phone to the apple servers, which are overloaded, I assume.

All of your music, apps, photos, videos, etc, should reside on your computer, not just on your easilly stolen,, lost or damaged prtable device.
A normal update, or even upgrade, restores all your settings and data from the backup thats created at the start of the process. Even if something goes wrong, you can sync back everything from your computer.

I was watching a youtube video this morning and my phone froze, but the song kept playing. And since then I have been trying to get my phone to come back on for over an hour now.

Can't get dual monitors to come back up when docking. T500 with mini dock & XP

I have a T500 with XP installed. I am using it docked into a mini dock attached to two 20inch Viewsonic monitors. One connected via VGA and the other DVI. I setup the dual monitors just fine. Anytime after I undock and boot up the laptop I can't get the dual monitors to automatically display. I have to go into the display properties and re set it up each time. Can anyone suggest any ideas?

When your T500 power-on , press F1 to log in BIOS, and change the option in >config>Display>Boot-Display-Device to Both or VGA, I suppose that it will reslove your problem.
