How do I keep a table the same size but change the width of columns?

I know this is probably a really stupid question. But after looking online and at the table palette... I still can't figure it out! In Quark, I can "maintain the geometry" of a table by clicking a box. That way, I can change the width or height of rows and columns... without changing the overall size of the table itself. How do I lock down the overall size of a table in InDesign? Thanks...
Julie

@Julie – you can change column width by alt + shift + dragging left or right cell sides without changing the overall size of the table.

Hope that helps!

    I am having the same issue too. It looks like many more people are having it as well. I called Apple Support a few times, but they use their standard naiive response: "we have never heard about this issue".

  • Outlook-2 different entries for the same person (but not the same email)

    i was asked to switch from outlook 2007 to outlook 2013 as a trial.
    For some reason, I get two different entries for the same person (but not the same email), one which is the name as normal and one where the name has ' around it. In the below example:
    I have 24 emails sent to Ciaran and then a further 14 sent to 'Ciaran'
    The email address for both is exactly the same and it does not seem to matter if I create a new email or reply to an incoming one.
    I switched back to Outlook 2007 and the issue is still the same.
    any suggestions?

    I would say that there is no way to prevent Outlook from doing it, it dependents on how the sender formatted the sending address, not the recipient who replies.
    To fix this:
    Open the message and double click the address and view source
    Just replace the generated Display As with the Display As you want

I'm assuming that the keys are the same size regardless of the size of the laptop, but I thought it would be prudent to check with you guys first. Thanks for your help.

    yes, they are all full size keyboards.

  • Using the magnify button in Ancestry.co.uk, the cursor will not move away from the actual record window. The only way to exit is Alt F4 which closes Firefox. When reloading, Firefox reactivates the same record but without the magnify button activated.

    The magnify also does not function properly.

    There is an easier work-around. Rather than closing the browser, completely, you just have to get the system to change the focus. You can do this by pressing ALT+TAB (to switch windows). Then, you can turn the magnify option off and just go with the Zoom. (There is a secondary problem, in that the last magnified section of the image stays magnified. Going back to the record and then back into the image will clear that. But at least you don't have to close the entire browser!)

  • Combining PDFs, how to get them the same size?

  • How to set regions to the same size

    Hi,
    Is there any way I can set all the regions on a page to the same size to prevent a staggering effect?
    e.g
    ------ region title 1 ------
    ------------ region title 2 ------------
    --- region title 3 ---
    I would like all titles to be the same length when looking down a page
    e.g
    ------ region title 1 -------
    ------ region title 2 -------
    ------ region title 3 -------
    What I have done in the interim is to create blank cells in each region, between the actual fields and then use nbsp; to pad them out and try and get the region headers to align that way. I am assuming there must be an easier way.
    eg.
    ------ region title 1 -------
    | field | blank | field | blank
    ------ region title 2 -------
    | field | blank | field | blank
    ------ region title 2 -------
    | field | blank | blank | blank
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Scott.

    Hi,
    Where can I post a screen shot of my form layout?
    In the meantime, let me explain again. What I was trying to say is, depending on how many fields that exist within a region, a region will size to the largest fields it contains, depending on how the fields are layed out within the region.
    Since I have 5 regions on my page going from top to bottom, what I am finding is that the regions are of different sizes, and I would like to make them all the same size, irrelevant of the largest field size it contains.
    The overall effect will be that the region titles will all line up on both the left and right handsides as a user scrolls down the page.
    If there is a way of acheiving this could you please let me know.
    Cheers,
    Scott.

  • JSplitPane keeps right-hand component same size

    I have a JInternalFrame... on its content pane sits a JScrollPane. Viewport view of JScrollPane is set to a JSplitPane.
    I want to make it so that, when the split pane divider is pulled either way (left or right), the right-hand component stays the same size... i.e. the width of the JSplitPane grows or diminishes accordingly. Obviously you would then see this reflected in the width and position of the slider of the horizontal scroll bar of the JScrollPane.
    I'm finding this very difficult to implement. To the point that I'm wondering whether I have to subclass BasicSplitPaneUI.BasicHorizontalLayoutManager ... which itself is not clear because the ** horizontal ** layout manager can't be instantiated (although its subclass the ** vertical ** layout manager can be).
    Alternatively I'm wondering if maybe JSplitPane is just not designed for such a purpose... in which case which layout manager would be appropriate? I'm not an expert on them... but do any of them actually give you a bar of some kind by which to resize one of their components? This is the attraction of JSplitPane for me...
    Another possibility might I suppose be a 1 row x 2 col JTable... but I'd like to find a split pane solution ideally

    }as the main JSplitPane's divider is dragged right or left, I have found no way of keeping the main JSplitPane's RH component (JPanel) the same size... the problem is that if you, for example, find out the pixel change of the divider, and alter the size of main JSplitPane accordingly, it appears that a "do layout" event is called...
    I've tried quite a few permutations and various listeners... either I get an endless loop of events calling events, or the divider simply snaps back to where it was... or the "printSizes" print-outs show that things are not the sizes they appear (which of course simply means that a subsequent event occurs which changes the sizes)...
    And, as I said, I don't know how to subclass BasicSplitPaneUI.BasicHorizontalLayoutManager

  • Is there a native app/software that will get my photos all the same size?

    I know how to do this with photoshop but I'm not sure if there is any Apple native app/software that will do this for me.
    Lets say I have 5 photos of different sizes and I want them all the same size.  I know I could reduce them all in preview but that doesn't allow me to move the photo around and cut out stuff I don't want in it.  Or I could crop them in Preview but then they are not automatically all the same size.
    The way it works in photoshop is:  I open up a new project that is the same size I want the photos to be.  Let say 900x644.  Then I copy one of the photos I want in that size (lets say it somewhat bigger) and when I paste it into that blank new project that is 900x644 I can move the pasted photo around to get it so what I want to fit into that newer smaller size is there.
    Is there any way to do this without special software on a regular Mac.  I'm trying to help a family member who doesn't really want to buy or learn a complicated graphics program.  They have iLife 11 BTW but I don't see a way to do it with iPhoto.
    Thanks for any ideas you may have!

    Use the Automator app (it's in the app folder) to resize a batch of photos:

  • When exporting to PDF, the pictures are not the same size I "placed" them

    I am "placing" pics that are 653 x 983 pixels, 300 DPI, using CS4.  However, my issue is when exporting to PDF, the PDF doesn't look like the same size I "placed" the pic until I blow it up to about 350%.  I do not have a printer set up to my computer so I can't do the print/pdf option.  Am I doing something wrong here?  I can't figure it out.  Your help is appreciated.  Thanks!

    Well, right when I open the PDF, it's just way too small, imagine it being the size of a business card.  I have to keep zooming in until it gets to the size I originally intended it to be.  When I create a new document am I suppose to make it the same size as the picture?

  • Dividing vertically a pane in sections of the same size

    I am trying to devide a pane (a HBox pane) in three parts with exactly the same width, that together uses all the available width of the parent pane where it is located.
    I tried with the following code and it looks more or less fine:
    HBox buttonsPane = new HBox();
    HBox addDriverPaneHBox = new HBox();
    addDriverPaneHBox.setAlignment(Pos.CENTER);
    HBox.setHgrow(addDriverPaneHBox, Priority.SOMETIMES);
    addDriverPaneHBox.getChildren().add(addDriverPane);
    HBox startPrologEnginePaneHBox = new HBox();
    startPrologEnginePaneHBox.setAlignment(Pos.CENTER);
    HBox.setHgrow(startPrologEnginePaneHBox, Priority.SOMETIMES);
    startPrologEnginePaneHBox.getChildren().add(startPrologEnginePane);
    HBox shutdownPrologEnginePaneHBox = new HBox();
    shutdownPrologEnginePaneHBox.setAlignment(Pos.CENTER);
    HBox.setHgrow(shutdownPrologEnginePaneHBox, Priority.SOMETIMES);
    shutdownPrologEnginePaneHBox.getChildren().add(shutdownPrologEnginePane);
    buttonsPane.getChildren().addAll(addDriverPaneHBox, startPrologEnginePaneHBox, shutdownPrologEnginePaneHBox);However, the code above does not enforce that the three divisions have exactly the same width. I tried changing the type of buttonsPane to TilePane but it did not help (with the TilePane the children had the same size but they did not use all the width available in the parent pane). Any alternative ?

    I haven't tried this, but maybe look at putting your three pieces into a tile pane, and the tile pane into the HBox. Then bind the tile pane's prefTileWidthProperty to one third of the available space.
    Something like:
    HBox buttonsPane = new HBox();
    TilePane tilePane = new TilePane();
    tilePane.prefTileWidthProperty.bind(
      buttonsPane.widthProperty()
          .subtract(buttonsPane.spacingProperty().multiply(2))
          .divide(3)
    tilePane.getChildren().addAll(addDriverPaneHBox, startPrologEnginePaneHBox, shutdownPrologEnginePaneHBox);
    buttonsPane.getChildren().add(tilePane);Depending on the context this is in, you may need to force the buttonsPane to take up all the width it can, or you may be able to add the tile pane directly to the buttonPane's current parent, and bind the tilePrefWidth to some property of that instead.
