How do I make a page item transparent?

I want to be able to set the opacity on a specified page item. I've tried two approaches, but one of them won't compile and the other gives me link errors.<br /><br />Can anyone tell me why I'm getting these errors? And does anyone know of a way to set transparency? I'm having trouble figuring out how to use IXPAttributeFacade. Can you provide a code snippet please, with all the necessary headers.
