How do I make a style specification /style apply to just a single region?

I have an HTML design that I am copying from an external website, and it is in the form of a <style>style</style> specification.
When I put it in the HTML header of the page it makes my tabs and other buttons look funny.
I want to make this style apply to one region only.
How can I do this?

It sounds like you having css conflicts between the two different style sets, which can be expected when your trying to clone a site UI by just shoving code in the page.
Try this add two regions set to No Template surrounding the region you want to style. In the one before the the region you want to style add <div id="cloneme"> and in the one after put </div>
In the style declaration of the site your trying to clone put #clone in front of all the style declarations. That probably won't fix everything but it should keep the page in total from changing.

How do I make a title disappear in smoke or just vanish

Hello, I've searched for tutorials regarding this but couldn't find anything but how to make writing out of clouds and title appear from smoke. I want to make a title on a black backround disappear in smoke or vanish in smoke or smth like it. Does anybody know any tutorial that explains this? Also the writing shouldn't be from smoke or cloud or anything, just tipical font, but when it disappears it should disperse in smoke like it's flown away. I would really appreciate some help please!!!

There are about a zillion ways to do this. A quick Google Search brings up dozens of tutorials. Like this one, or this one, or . . . If you want to look at video tutorials just click the word videos in the left column.
Some use 3rd party plug-ins, some use stock footage, some use displacement. The process usually involves displacement maps or turbulent displace, some blurring, and some smoke. Smoke can be generated with fractal noise, particle systems, stock footage, or simply filming some smoke against a black background.

How do I make a re-installable system clone? Just in case!

So, I've got my copy of Leopard and am anxious to upgrade my trusty PowerBook, however, after reading some of the issues posted here I am also somewhat apprehensive.
I would like to make a clone of my current system, which is running sweetly on 10.4.10 with a lot of other 3rd party apps that I fear may not be compatible with Leopard. This is the main reason I want to clone the system.
I have a brand new 80GB Firewire drive ready for the event, but as I have never done this before I would greatly appreciate any and all advice on this topic please.
What is the best software to use? I've heard of SilverKeeper and there is DeJaVu with Toast8. Are there anymore I should consider?
Will I be able to use the clone as re-installable disc image to return my system to it's previous state? Would that work through the disc utility's 'restore' function or another process?
Would I be better off to install Leopard onto the external F/W drive and run some software tests first?
Reading all these problems has put me into a minor panic. I was so excited to buy Leopard, but now I am fearful of installing it.

Nope. I made a copy via Carbon Copy Cloner. I have it on my Firewire drive but have no way to get it back onto the boot drive. You can't copy over a running OS and I can't boot from the firewire drive for some reason (Kernal Panic). I don't get it. It is like the chicken or the egg. I am stuck. I do not want eopard anymore and can't get my cloned 10.4.10 back to my G5. It appears I need an image file. When I go that route, it allows me to clone the items on a drive, back to the same drive, but says "by clicking ok, you will delete the files on the drive and then create an image file on that drive". Sorry, but that makes NO SENSE.

How do I make a multi-line heading show up as a single line in the Table of Contents?

I'm writing a document where the headings often have a line break in them for the sake of formatting. When I generate a Table of Contents, they show up as two entries on the same page instead of as a single heading.
For example, if I have a section like:

When what I really want is a Table of Contents like this:

(Actually, I have a bunch of sections with titles like this all in a row, so it looks much worse than in the example.)

I wanted this function as well and I just downloaded "BBClendar Free" and it works perfectly for this, better than an inexpensive digital watch!
Just go to the Advanced section, enable the hourly beep and even set which hours (mine is 8 AM - 10 PM) and what minute of each hour it beeps on. Just be sure to leave the program open when you go on standby or it won't beep.
As the App's description says, "Hourly Beep helps you to take a moment to rest in a busy day for every hour."

Just in case you are not running iOS 7 and don't have the control center feature.....
If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it and you are running iOS 5 or 6, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left.
If you are running iOS 7, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the control center and the lock icon is in the row of icons at the top all the way to the right.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

I assumed that if I used the project style sheet during the export, Word would convert the style so that it looked the same as in the HTML. Is that a bad assumption? I'm currently not mapping to any template equivalent for these message box styles. I did try it as one of my attempts, but I couldn't figure it out. It never seemed to take the style in the .dot.
Anyway, if I use just 1 style, such as just the MsgBox, I obviously don't get the white paragraph between the title and message. That white paragraph comes from the first <p> tag in the MsgBox style. But I need to have the <p> tags in there because they're better for our localization process than line breaks.
I did do some tweaks that made it look better. Basically I structured it so that the MsgBoxTitle div is now inside the MsgBox div. Something like this:

Yes, I knew how can I change the style using cell factory. there is a lot of work to do if it has so many columns in table view. we need to implement every cell factory, Do we have a simple way to change the whole row style , just like fabsav said, I 'd like to set the special row like this line:

How to effectively use Character Styles

Hello, I am fairly new to InDesign, but have an extensive background with FrameMaker. I am having trouble figuring out how to best use character styles in ID, because of the difference between it and FM.
Lets say I have two different body text styles, which use different fonts or different sizes, each of which is saved as a paragraph style.
In Framemaker, when you go into the Character Style editor, for each value you can select the value "As Is". So if I want to make a Bold character style, I leave the font and size attributes set to "As Is" and I change only the weight attribute to Bold.
Now, I can select either Body Text 1 or Body Text 2 for the paragraph style and if I want to bold a word, I just highlight that word and select the Bold character style. The text is bolded but everything else that is unique to that paragraph style remains. If I ever need to unbold the word, I can just select it and then select No Style from the Character Style catalog
But in ID, it looks like you have to define the value for each attribute in the Character Style editor. So I would need to create two separate bold styles, one for each paragraph style, because if I define the font and size, it will switch those values as well as the weight. And if I need to create a separate Bold Character style for each paragraph style in which the default font is not bolded, what is the advantage of using character styles? Why not simply highlight the text and select the bold value from the Character palette, which then modifies the paragraph style just for those words that you bolded?

I was looking at some existing documents, which I think were created by folks who didn't know what they were doing (I am new to this job and all of the previous folks doing what I do are gone - and they clearly did not understand how to properly use styles). All of the fields had values in them, and when I didn't see an "As Is" value, it never occurred to me that I could just highlight the value and delete it to get rid of it.
When you use a bunch of different Adobe products, even though they have fairly similar user interfaces, it is those differences that really get you.....

#1 don't use use tables for layouts. They severely limit your site's efficiency because they combine content with styles. If you decide to make sweeping changes to the appearance of your site later, you'll need to tediously re-code everything with tables in it. CSS allows you to style your entire site by editing one file instead of many.
#2 It's not clear from your post whether you have applied everything necessary for this to work. In which browsers are you previewing this? Can you post a link to your test page?
