How do i read from/write to FieldPoint modules in LabView 8.5?

Is there a new way to read from/write to FieldPoint modules in LabView 8.5?  I made a .vi in LabView 8.0 using the FieldPoint icon under 'Measurement I/O' on the Functions Palette (to read from and write to different modules), but now, after transferring the program to a new computer with LabView 8.5, those icons are not listed under 'Measurement I/O'.  The FieldPoint items do show up in MAX so I know that they're connected properly.
Did I miss something when installing the new LV 8.5?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello,
As Mike said, it is important to reinstall any drivers that you need, such as FieldPoint, after
installing a new version of LabVIEW so that the new version of LabVIEW will contain the necessary functions for communicating with your specific hardware.  The same goes for any toolkits or software modules that you may have.
Currently, only FieldPoint
6.0 installs support for LabVIEW 8.5.  The installer for FieldPoint 6.0 is packaged with the August 2007, November 2007, and February 2008 Device Driver CDs that shipped with LabVIEW.  The February 2008 Device Driver CD can also be found online at:
http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/991/lang/en
You will notice on the FieldPoint
5.0.1 installer there are only support options for LabVIEW versions up
to 8.2.1.
Take care!

  • How can I read two channels with fieldpoint and labview

    I'm trying to read two or more channels with the TC 120, and I follow the examples of sopport page, but doesn't work.
    What can I do?

    For more information about reading or writing to or from multiple channels in Fieldpoint, please refer to:
    How Do I Read or Write to Multiple Channels on a Fieldpoint Module in LabVIEW?
    This should enable you to read multiple channels. The only other option available is to use one fp open.vi, multiple Create Tag.vi's and multiple FP Tag Read.vi's.

  • Read from an XML previously created by LabView

    Hi everyone,
    My problem is, as the title says, I need to read Data from an XML file, if the file does not exist, LabView creates it. So far it works. After the creation though, when I go through the subroutine again and want to read the data back from the XML file, it brings me the Error Code 1006 and tells me something about not being able to read it since "the XML-Tag isn't the same type as the type of the variable connected." (roughly translated from German)
    The Variable I want to read something back to is a Cluster consisting of 2 Clusters constisting of 1) two numeric elements and 2) a string and a 1-D array of 12 numeric element.
    The part that's confusing me is, that LabView saved the data itself w/o problems and in its own XML format. So it shouldn't really bring up any problems reading it back to the same variable, now should it?
    If anyone has an answer, I'm happy about anything, this has been driving me nuts the whole day
    Thanks in advance and Regards,
    Pedro
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    sorry for my vague description, lets try to fix this:
    For writing the XML-File, I use "Write To XML File.vi", the LabView standard XML writing VI.
    For reading from it again, I use "Read From XML File.vi", also the LabView standard.
    My LabView version is 8.5
    I'll attach some pictures and the created XML file which I hope will be of help.
    "Limits Template.png" is my Cluster to save the data in. As I said previously, the data was written from this very cluster, yet it cannot be read back to it. As you can see in there, the array is created correctly with 12 elements and their corresponding sizes.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Pedro
    EDIT: checked again, the error code indeed is 1106

  • How do I read and write to text files on a remote computer's hard drive

    I would like to read and write data to a text file on a remote computer. This is easily accomplished using one of the file functions such as "write characters to file.vi". If I am already connected to the remote computer, all I need to do is specify the path to the particular file and it will work fine.
    My problem is that I want to connect to the remote computer programatically within LabVIEW (I do not want to have to use the computer's OS to establish the connection. Is there a function that I can use to do this?

    Yariv,
    You should really start a new thread with a new question like this, so that more people see it. Some people look primarily at threads that have no responses yet. Also, don't post the exact same question in multiple places. Or, if you must cross-post to some other forum, make sure to mention it in your question text.
    I'm happy to be a brick in your Western Wall, but I'm not sure what the main objective is here. Is the main problem really getting access to the "X bytes received in Y seconds at Z bytes/sec" string? Or is it accomplishing the file transfer? And what OS and LabVIEW version are you running?
    I think your problem is that you the LabVIEW System Exec command does not allow for the degree of interactivity that you need if you want to issue a sequence of commands to a command-line executable. However, under Windows XP (and, presumably, other Windows versions, though I can't check), you can tell the FTP executable to use commands from a textfile script by using the -s switch, and you can override the prompts during multiple file transfers with the -i switch:
    ftp -i -s:FILEPATH SERVERNAME
    If you issue a command in this format to System Exec, and make sure to create a file at FILEPATH with your command sequence (one per line), then you should at least accomplish the FTP actions. This won't give you the transfer details in the standard output, unfortunately. However, if you just want a general sense of how much was transferred and how quickly it happened, you can code that in LabVIEW by getting the resulting file sizes and using Tick Count before and after the System Exec call to see how long the transfer took.
    Hope that helps,
    John

  • How to burn read and write files on DVD

    I would like to know how to burn DVDs (image files) with the Read and Write setting. I have changed the settings in Get Info for the image files to Read and Write for Owner, Group and Others and yet when I burn the DVD and try and copy the files back onto the hard drive (to test if it works or not) it won't allow me. When I check the Get Info it says Read and Write for owner (greyed out) and Read Only for Group and Others (greyed out too).
    I have also tried to change the status of the blank DVD before adding files and after adding the files (but b4 the burn) to Read and Write, this works but then during the burn process the DVD or burner changes my settings to Read Only.
    I am burning with Finder and have tried with Toast 10 Titanium. What am I doing wrong, or not doing at all?! I'm going loopy with frustration!

    Kiraly, I agree that the actual problem here might be something else, but as a side issue there seems to be a difference in the way permissions are handled when a file copy is made using Finder compared to when the copy is made using the cp copy in Terminal. At least in my Tiger system, Finder preserved the permission structure, though not the ownership, when it copied a file, whereas cp used the OS defaults.
    I tried the following experiment:
    From my test user account "t", I created a textfile named ReadWrite.txt, and gave it Read+Write permissions for Owner, Group, and Others. I then burned it using Finder to a DVD which I named PermissionTest, and then unchecked the "Ignore Ownership" box on PermissionTest.
    The original ownership and permissions were preserved on the DVD, though of course you couldn't actually write to anything there:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    I then copied the file from the DVD to the Desktop using Finder, and the permissions were preserved!
    Finder copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    I then trashed the Finder copy of ReadWrite,txt on the desktop, and made a second copy from the DVD, but this time I used the cp command from Terminal instead of using Finder. This time the permissions were not preserved, but reverted to the OS default:
    cp copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ cp /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt Desktop
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 19:43 /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    I then switched to a different user account "t1", and repeated the above with the same DVD, first copying the ReadWrite.txt file to the desktop using Finder, and then using cp. The ownership of the copied file changed from t to t1 in both cases, but the permission structure again was preserved in the Finder copy but not in the cp copy:
    DVD file:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    Finder copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t1 t1 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    cp copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ cp /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt Desktop
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 t1 t1 15 Sep 13 19:51 /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    I got similar results when I tried copying a file with Read+Write permissions for all from a USB flash drive to the Desktop, again with the "Ignore Ownership" box unchecked.

  • Data reading and writing problem? how to set " Read from Measurment File express.vi" 's readout datasize?

    Dear all,
    I want to use Labview to process a data.
    Now I have a array in a text file.
    this array is very very big. which is at least row*col = 6 * 100000;
    the column size always 6,
    but the row size is ramdom, some times is very big, like bigger than 65535,
    when I use "read from measurement file express.vi" to read this file, the array I could get always 6*5339, I don't know why. the column size is always 5339.
    and then I delete the 1st row of the array and then write into a txt file via "write measurement file express. vi", it takes a very long time. almost computer has no response. after a while, no file was creat to record the data.
    is there an efficient way to process such big data file and store the processed file into a new file
    thank you very much

    Hello,
    There’s no real efficient way to read the file if you don’t
    know exactly how many rows of data you have.
    Your going to just have to read a row at a time and add the results to
    the end of an array (granted for the clever programmers there are some more
    efficient ways to do this than just with ‘build array’).  I would start by asking you how much
    information you know about the file and what the exact structure of it is (i.e.
    is it a binary file, a tab delimited file, or a LVM file)?  Could you provide a screenshot of the code
    you are running? If you provide a little more information on the file structure
    we might be able to contribute some additional information.
    Look forward to hearing back from you-

  • Utl_file how to start reading from a certain position?

    Hi all,
    i'm currently using utl_file to read a text file and import to db. i have managed to do it. however i would like to avoid reading the first line as it is the header. i would also like to avoid the last line as it is the footer.
    how do i use the function of get line to start reading at a certain position? i am also able to get the length but i do not know how to make it start reading from a certain position.
    the length of the first line will always be 9 and length for the last line would be 51.
    here's my code so far:
    set serveroutput on

      IF utl_file.is_open(vSFile) THEN
        LOOP
          BEGIN
            utl_file.get_line(vSFile, vNewLine);
            IF vNewLine IS NULL THEN
              EXIT;
            END IF;
          EXCEPTION
            WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
              EXIT;
          END;
        END LOOP;
        UTL_FILE.FGETATTR('MYDIR',file_name,v_exist,v_length,blocksize);
        dbms_output.put_line(v_length);
        COMMIT;
      END IF;
      utl_file.fclose(vSFile);
    END read_demo;

    Hi,
    utl_file has an fseek procedure for moving the file pointer around in a file, either absolute or relative number of bytes.
    It's in the documentation, I'm surprised you didn't see it there when you looked before going to the hassle of asking us a question.

    NEVER want reader (that's why i bought Pro).
    How do i keep Reader from EVER being installed?

    I don't get a pop-up. Something triggers the Reader installer to be loaded on my system. This occurs without my knowledge. Then, the next time i go to open a PDF, instead of it opening immediately with Acrobat Pro, I get the first screen of the installation stuff for Reader (Accept/Decline Terms of use, etc.). At this point, i get out of the install, go into control panel and uninstall Reader (which is listed as a loaded program, even though i haven't finished the install). After i uninstall reader and open a PDF, it opens correctly with Acrobat Pro. This happens once or twice a month at least. Is it possible that the Adobe Acrobat Update Service task loads Reader on my system at some interval? How do i block Reader form EVER being installed or loaded?
