How do I resolve the error "Another installer is currently running, which must be closed before updating" when updating CC on MacOS 10.9.4?

Creative Cloud keeps alerting me to an available update but whenever I try to install it it tells me there is another installer running which must be shut down first.
I've now shut down and restarted the Mac completely and nothing else is running but it still gives me the same error (Error code: 81). See screen shot below.
I'm running Mavericks (OSX 10.9.4). How do I resolve this?

Please try the mentioned steps:
1. Navigate to Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installer and look for CC desktop, if present run the uninstaller to uninstall it.
2. Navigate to Applications/Utilities and look for Adobe Application Manager folder and Creative cloud folder. If present move to trash and empty it.
3. Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE and rename to OOBE.old
4. Download CC desktop from: https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud and try to install again.

    restart your computer and retry.
    if that fails, check your task manager (win) or activity monitor (mac).

    Upon attempting to install Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended edition, a pop up box appears which gives the message at the foot of the post, however no other installers are running. I've tried rebooting the PC and all my current software is up-to-date but this message appears every time I insert the disc and attempt to install the programme.
    I’m currently running the Windows 8 operating system but as far as I’m aware this shouldn’t affect the install.

    Firstly, thank you for your help and suggestions.
    It seems the cause of the fault was nothing to do with Photoshop at all, but rather something to do with a recently installed version of Microsoft Office 2010.
    Ultimately, shortly after my failed attempts to install Photoshop, Microsoft Office 2010 caused a computer crash, which corrupted a number of Office files and in order to avoid further complications, Windows elected to revert to an earlier back-up of the system (pre Office installation).
    When I attempted to install Photoshop, following this system revert, it installed first time with absolutely NO COMPLICATIONS AT ALL.
    To anyone else who receives the error message displayed at the top of this post, I urge you to check whether Microsoft Office is hampering the install.

    I presume the no-padding error is happening when you attempt to do the decryption. This means, that in some way, you've modified the encrypted data, and the size of the data is not what the cipher object expects. You don't show all your code here, but most likely, you tried to put result into a string (temp?) and when you do your temp.getBytes(), the array of bytes you're getting back is not the same as the array called result in your post.

    I have an iPod touch 4th generation 8gb and im having a time zone issue on it, so I just backed up and I want to restore from backup. When I try to restore from backup it tells me that there is not enough space on  my ipod to restore backup. I have 687 mb free, how much space does it need? I dont want to restore then restore from backup in case something goes wrong like this and I have to start all over. Id rather have the time zone issue than an empty ipod.     Try moving/deleting from your iTunes libary apps and music which were on the iPod when the backup was made. When selecting apps,select the ones with app data that you can lose.

    I have. I did not have any voice memos to deselect and I only had selected playlists checked.  I don't have anything but music on my ipod.  I am afraid to reformat or "re sync" the ipod due to the warnings stating it will remove everything and re sync because I have music from multiple computers and multiple itunes on my ipod and I am afraid I will be unable to recover all of my music if I do this.  Is there a safe way to completely backup what is currently on my ipod before moving forward with a complete reformat ?     My wife was on sprint and we wanted to switch to Verizon. We pre-ordered the Iphone 6 plus in September. A week later we adjusted our order from the 16gb model to the 64gb model and we reassured this was easy and was all taken care of.
    At the end of September I received an email advising my 16GB phone had shipped. I called verizon and pointed out that the 16GB phone was cancelled and replaced with an order for a 64GB phone. Reassured this was easy and all taken care of. Simply send the phone back when it arrived, it was all taken care of in the "system".
    Middle of October received confirmation the funds for the 16GB phone had been returned to my credit card.
    Less than a week later received an email from Verizon advising that I needed to hurry up and port my old number to my new phone. Called Verizon to remind them that I don't have a phone yet. Reassured this was easy and all taken care of.
    End of October received 3 emails in succession in the middle of the night- one cancelling my order, one confirming an order, and one advising my order had not yet shipped. I called again. Reassured this wasn't an issue, simply the warehouse moving things around, issue with Apple being behind on iphone orders. All taken care of.
    First week of November received an email advising that my account had been credited $35 and now my balance owing was $110.22. Called again. Explained that I don't have a phone yet. How could I have a balance? Reassured it was all taken care of, just the "system" taking a month to get itself "cleared out".
    2nd week of November the phone arrived. Called Verizon to activate phone and port number from old Sprint phone. Spent time on phone with Verizon rep to ensure billing was all straightened out. Reassured it was all good.
    Next day received an email advising my account balance was $164.19 which included a credit of -$45.00. Called Verizon. Spent another hour on the phone with Customer Service who again reassured me they finally had it straightened out and no matter what the paper copy of my bill said, my total due at that time was $69.19.  I paid Verizon $69.19.
    2 days later I received an email thanking me for activating my second line..... I only have one phone.
    The first week of December I received an email advising me my new bill was ready with a current balance of $270.60.
    Today I spent over an hour on the phone with Verizon customer service attempting to get this issue resolved. I was advised that Verizon had removed my "2nd" line (which was the temporary number on the phone so that I could port the Sprint number) and now my balance due was down to $200. After repeated attempts to figure out how I could possible owe $200 on top of the $69.19 already paid on a single line phone with only 1GB of data that had only been activated one month and not getting anywhere, I asked to speak to a supervisor. As a supervisor wasn't readily available, I was asked to provide a call back number and reassured someone would call me back in 1/2 an hour. It is now an hour and a half later and no response.
    Does anyone have any idea how to get this issue resolved once and for all? Is my only alternative to cancel the phone and threaten legal action if they attempt to impose an early cancellation fee? I just can't understand how their "system" can be so impossible to manipulate and their customer service so professional and nice and yet completely without the apparent ability to actually solve a problem.

  • MDNSResponder keeps taking up more memory. After restart, it takes up about 5MBs of memory; after a few days, it is currently at 165MBs, and that's not the highest its gone. Currently running 10.5.8 with all updates.

    I'm running an Intel Core Duo iMac with 10.5.8 and all updates.
    The computer has been running slow, even after replacing the HDD a few months ago. I noticed last week in Activity Monitor that the process mDNSResponder was consuming several hundred MBs of memory. I searched, thinking it was malware, but found that it is the correct spelling of the process and is vital for Mac networking. I restarted the computer, and mDNSResponder shrunk to only consuming about 4MBs of memory.
    I checked again a week later, and it's climbed back up to consuming 165MBs of memory, and seems to be climbing.
    Is this normal? Between it and Safari, there's always at least 300MBs of memory being consumed, just being connected and using the internet.
    I've read elsewhere that sometimes Brother printer drivers can cause mDNSResponder to consume much of the CPU; however, I don't have a Brother printer, and mDNSResponder isn't using any of the CPU currently. I couldn't find anything posted about a possible memory leak.
    When I open the process in Activity Monitor, it says there are zero hangs.

    The amount of memory it's using is largely irrelevant - at least given the available data.
    One of the things mDNSresponder does is cache DNS records, so of course it's going to use less memory after a restart (it has no cached data) than it is after a couple of weeks of runtime (it's cached a slew of lookups). In fact, generally you want this process to use memory since it improves overall performance.
    The exception to that rule, of course, is if you don't have enough memory in your machine to do the other tasks, in which case that 165MB might be better used by other processes to reduce paging, but that isn't apparent from your post since you don't include any kind of memory stats. If you have plenty of memory available then the 165MB used by mDNSResponder isn't an issue.
    Look more closely at your memory utilization and processes that have high CPU usage rather that ones with large memory footprints per se.

    First, try the simple fix: back up all data, then delete the calendar account and add it back. If it's an iCloud account, all you have to do is uncheck and recheck the box marked Calendars & Reminders in the iCloud preference pane. Test.
    If there's no change, then you may be trying to access an event in a shared calendar that you declined. The error message should give you a clue as to what it is. If the calendar is on iCloud, you can bring up the Calendar on the website and select 
    Show Declined Events
    from the popup menu with the gear icon in the upper right corner of the page. The declined events will appear in gray, and one of them should match what's shown the error message. [Credit for this solution to ASC member Psi.]
    If you get the error when trying to accept an invitation in an email attachment, it's because the organizer didn't properly create the event.

    I don't know if this will work, but I'd try logging in to an admin account, going to your main library (not user library), opening it, opening Application Support, selecting iPhoto, hold down the command key and press i, click on the lock in the lower left, entering the password and making sure you have Read & Write privileges for System and Admin.

    Check USB connections
    If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
    To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
    Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
    Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
    Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
    Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
    If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
