Open image B
On image B, use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object which you wish to "superimpose"
Go to Edit menu>copy to put the object on the clipboard
Go back to image A
Go to Edit>paste. The object will be on its own layer
Get the move tool out of the toolbox, and position the object and resize, if indicated

Animated gifs: How to transition (fade) 1 image over another

Fireworks noob, trying to make an animated gif in CS4, reading/experimenting for hours, searching FW help documentation, Youtube tutes, Google - can't find how to pull off this basic fade.
6 unique but same sz. jpgs in my .png (default FW worksheet doc), each a different "state" in the states palette. Got the basic timing down, all 6 pop up one after another, but I want transitions - #1 fades into #2, 2 into 3 etc. - possibly 3-4 step fade.
How?
Where are the other transitions/effects hidden?
Doesn't FW have some kind of animation timeline feature where you can click through frame by frame?

Gif animations are for poster-like images. They don't work successfully with JPEGs because the file size ends up enormously large. The best program to use for whast you want to do is Flash. That said, Fireworks has an animation wizard that will fade images for you. Select an image and choose Modify > Symbol > Convert to Symbol. A dialog box will pop up enabling you to choose which type of symbol you wish to create. Choose Animation. From there, just follow the wizard. To fade one image over the other, you'll need to convert the images to symbols and animate them on different states (frames). Symbol 1 on state 1. Symbol 2 on state 10. Symbol 3 on state 20, for example.

So I am beginning to work this all out...
I have cropped an image using motion which is looking great, except that the image (which is someone's head) is square because I used 'crop' in motion, any ideas how to make the edges curved?
The next step is working out how to keep the superimposed image over the head of the person in the video if they move? ie so it tracks the original image in movement?

Hard to follow you when you're creating new threads on the same topic...
First of all - don't use Motion to crop - that's easily done in FCP - if you want to follow the edges of the head, use the Mask tool in Motion.

No. That's a job for Photoshop (or Acorn or Gimp or equivalent).

I'm trying to draw a square of a given color, and draw a circle of a given thickness and greyscale color. I want to lay the circle over the top of the square. Is that possible given the method below?

I have a page that displays the results of a search for information about a club. One of the items is the club's logo. It is displayed using the following code

This works fine, except when no club has been selected, in which case it shows the default question mark in a blue box.
It would be nice if I could display the Federation Logo, to which all the clubs belong, until a club is picked.
Is there a simple way to set a default image that would be replaced from a data set.

How do I feather one image into another?

I want to make the black area look as though it does not have a hard edge but actually fades into the lighter grey behind it, but in a way so that the fade still describes the shape of the black area. I also don't want any of the darker colour to bleed into white space - I want all the fading to be contained in the light grey.
For context, this image is a river in its current state (the black) and the light grey is the floodplain of the river. The effect I want is for the river to appear as though it moves within the floodplain rather than look like a fixed line on a map.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

I ended up selecting the black river area, and making a new layer, and expanding the selection by 100pixels - filling that with a slightly lighter black, and then using the eraser with transparency to create the fading effect around the river.

Hi, I'm struggling with the most basic process in PSE 10. I have selected an area in a photograph - now I want to delete the rest of that photograph and add the selected area as a layer to another photograph. Having spent hours searching online, I'm hoping someone can give me an answer please.

Hi Barbara, I can't explain this but it seems to be working now, even with the Tiff format. I'm doing exactly what I was doing before - selecting an area on the photo, then pressing edit - copy. Before I was getting an error message, but now I can copy the selection into another Tiff. I must be doing something different or I must have changed a setting - I have no idea what, but the problem seems to have gone away. If only every problem was that simple!
The upshot is I can now edit in both Tiff and PSD and am really delighted with the help I received from this forum. I know they were very basic questions, but sometimes those are the hardest to answer.

I am editing figures for a journal and I need arrows for multiple images. Is there a standard arrow? I can only see free hand. If I use a free hand arrow I then want to copy it to the other images for consistency. How do I copy or share layers between images?

There are many arrows in the shape tool, or you can set the line tool to have an arrowhead in the tool options. You can copy/paste layers from one image to another, or drag a layer from the layers panel into the main image window of another image and then use the move tool to position it. You can also drag into the thumbnail in the photo bin, but you'll still need to bring the image up to adjust the positioning.

I am brand new to actionscript, so bear with me! I need to create an interactive web-based system which takes the user through steps to assemble something. One of the pages will have images of the tools needed. your tool images should be converted to movieclips and given instance names and you should create a red tick movieclip that you assign a class, say RedTick. you can then use:

A simple Paste does not work for you?
It should place the clipboard content as a new Layer which you can then move around.
If there is any chance that the elements need to be scaled, rotated etc. I would prefer to place them as Smart Objects (File > Place …) and do the masking that is specific to the images themselves in those.
