How is YTD calculated in bex ?

we have a requirement to calculate YTD for revenue in a report. Just want to understand if YTD is always the current year restricted to KF or we need to consider the value from the user like 0fiscper and adjust YTD, as per the user input. I mean for example if user enter input 002.2013, then the YTD will have 2013 value or still 2014 value because YTD is current year to date.
My reporting requirement is as below. red are colmns.
customer YTD revenue Feb 2013 ( user input value- revnue will be fetch based on user input).
But YTD will be always for current year right ? Does it depend on the user requirement ? Should I ask user or its generic, Please confirm.

The reason I put this thread is to find out how is YTD calculated normally in a report. Will it be always the current year data to be displayed or it depends on the requirement. Hope you would have handled YTD in your reports, can you please clarify.

YTD calculation from BEx is not working in Advance Analysis for OLAP/OR Office

I have AA for OLAP based on BEx. There are YTD calculation in BEx Designer: User enters Period in variable, and in user exits, the Period Range is populated as "1 ~ UserEnteredValue" in second variable. In BEx, YTD is calculated based on the Restrictive KF for the period range, calculated in User Exit. This is working fine in BEx Analyzer, however in Advance Analysis (for OLAP OR in Ofice), the YTD value is not coming up they way it is in BEx Analyzer...
Anybody has any clue, why??

Hello Sharma
If something is working for BEx Analyzer but not for Analysis OLAP or Analysis Office then this typically (but not always) indicates an issue with the BICS (BI Consumer Services) component.
I would suggest you contact support about this so the appropriate logs can be captured and the issue investigated by the BICS team.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THIS IN BEX REPORT ?

I have a query like below:
Indicator---Month---Volume--
Revenue
A--201101-10Tonnes----710USD
A--201102-20Tonnes----2000USD
Because of some selections in our query,It always displays data from beginning of year to present month(August).
Now requirement is to add new column named 'Average'.....It should be weigted average and will be calculated as below:
If we take records for 201101 month in cube....The calculations should be equivalent to Volume of each record * Revenue of each record / Total Volume for that month
so if we take cube and display all records for 201101 month for example:
Indicator--MonthVolume--Revenue
A--2011011--
100
A--2011012--
110
A--2011013--
200
A--201101-4--
300
Then 'Average' that needs to be displayed in report for 201101 month will be calculated as follows:
Volume for each record * Revenue for each record / Total Volume for that month
(1100+21103*2004*300)/(123+4)=212
So,the report will show 201101 as below:
Indicator----Month--Volume-Revenue--Average
A--201101-10710--
212
Similarly,if a report is executed for August month:
Indicator----Month--Volume-Revenue--Average
A--201101--10710--

Just tried looking into your query. Few questions that I have:
1. When you say
"if we take cube and display all records for 201101 month for example:
Indicator--MonthVolume--Revenue
A--2011011--
100
A--2011012--
110
A--2011013--
200
A--201101-4--
300
If these records are there in cube , then when you query on them the report will get aggregated based on you Indicator & Month. So no individual records to do the calculation.
So I guess you should look for some routines while you are loading this records in the cube to do this calculation rather than Bex ...but I will feel good if someone can tell us to how to acheive it in Bex.

YTD calculation at product level

Hi Friends,
Am not sure if this is the right forum to post a BW question.
I have a requirement to calculate YTD, however the way this has to be calculated is a different.
We have multiple products, but for each product we have different periods(start and end period), Start period is August for all products, however the end period for each product varies.
Product     Start period     End period
ABC          AUG               APR
BCD          AUG               MAR
CDE          AUG               FEB
The requirement is that when the user runs a report, in the selection screen if he/she selects for example a period(month) as 02.
Then the report should show YTD calculation from AUGUST to FEB as a total.
Also if there are any additional values beyond the end period they should be displayed in their respective month columns.
Please see the example below how the report out put should be.

Please tell me are the start and end periods are coming as transaction values(i.e in Target) and all the months data is available or not like continuity in the months,there should be any record with jan'14 data,no feb'14 data Mar'14 data like that.

How to calculate median in BEX

Hi,
How can I calculate median value of a keyfigure in bex? It should not be calculated as Result but as Single Value.
Example - I have Ticket Number, Ticket Resolution Date as Chars and Resolution Time in terms of days as KF.
I want to calculate median of Resolution Time for each month.
How can this be achieved in bex or otherwise?

I have no idea how to create median in Bex.......As far as my knowledge goes, there is no formula function to create median in Bex.... But I had read that we can create median using Business Objects.......in one document...

Could anyone help me defining a Time Intelligence YTD calculation that works for all levels including the Date (highlighted in yellow above)?

The only strange thing is the MDX script, I would have used this one instead (sse below) - but if this is not the issue, I would suggest you to isolate the issue in a simpler MDX script removing any other calculation.
Also take a look at the DateTool solution for these calculations - I really don't like the wizard provided by the development environment, it has other issues but not something that should affect your calculation:

I am installing a patch(13925741) for Calculation Manager, i stuck at the following point:
6. Perform the standard Calculation Manager Web application server deployment task using Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Configurator (EPM System Configurator). See the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide for instructions.
I don't know how to redeploy Calculation Manager Web Application Server, plz help me in deploying this.

Did you actually try to look at the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide for instructions as suggested ?
To redeploy a component, run the configurator that can be found in the start menu under Foundation Services. Then select "modify an existing instance". Then for Calculation manager, check the box "Deploy to application server".

Consider yor first question:
1. Yes, we can create timeseries measures without using AGO and TODATE
1. Create ALIAS of fact tabe in the physical layer
2. Join the Time id from the ALIAS fact table with the YAGO_MONTH_ID column from your time dimension table (For calculating Year Ago variants) similarly join with MAGO_MONTH_ID column for Month Ago measures.
3.Pull the ALIAS tables as an additional Logical table source in the Lgical layer
4.Keep the mapping of the columns from the ALIAS table as its is
5. For e.g If you pick Revenue from the Year Ago Alias table it will give you the "Prior Year Revenue"

It seems the patches for BW Add-On are being kept pretty much in sync for 6.20 and 6.40 (i.e they seem to be released at around the same time, even that the patch level numbers are different).
However, at BW Add-on Patch level 4 on a SAPgui640 machine, we didn't have the "pink font" problem.
It may be that BW 3.5 Add-On patch 6 will have a similar effect for you - it may be worth trying.

How is COGS calculated?

In the Sales Quotation UI we can go to Form Settings and add COGS column to the grid UI. This COGS is a calculated field. How is it calculated and when the user enters a value in this column which database table/column gets updated?

Hi Sheeta Pisolkar
The COGS is calculated depending on what you are using. You can either use FIFO, Moving Average or Standerd cost. I'll explain the first two as that is the most used.
When selling a particular item, moving average looks at all the prices you paid for that item and then gets an average. Example, yesterday i buy XYZ for 100, today i buy another XYZ for 200. Then when i sell it it will use an average of 150.
FIFO stands for First In First Out. If you have serial numbers on it uses the cost linked to that item. If not it is purely First In First Out.
SBO does not store these values, it calculates it at run time. Once you invoice it the value is stored in oinm.

Hi,
directly you can't create hierarchy at bex level.
First you have to maintain hierarchy data source at source or bw side, based on your needs.
Later you can load data to hierarchy, after that at bex level you can activate hierarchy options to related info object properties.
To maintain hierarchy we need to enable hierarchy options at related info object(RSD1, hierarchy tab, select with hierarchies) maintenance level.
For example: info object - 0GL_ACCOUNT and you need hierarchy structure on gl account.
For that we need to have hierarchy data source and will load data from ecc.
Later we can develop reports on gl account in hierarchy fashion.
On what object infoo bject you want create hierarchy report and have loaded hierarchy data?

Hi Viren,
difference between filter and free characteristics is that free characteristics can be added to drilldown at query runtime. Filter values can not be changed at query runtime.
You can add a filter to a query by placing a characteristic in filter section and restrict the characteristic to certain values. Characteristics in rows / columns / free characteristics section can be restricted to certain values, too.

How to disconnect a web BEx session encapsulated into a BSP ?

I have built a statefull BSP application aimed at displaying BW queries results.
This BSP is composed of many frames. Into one frame, I have to display a web BEx session (like the BEx displays query results through an internet browser).
Into this frame, the following type of URL is called :
http://server:port/sap/bw/BEx?sap-language=EN?cmd=ldoc?infocube=<my info cube name>?query=<my query name>?<variables handling ...>
It works. From a user session point of view, I have 2 'Plugin HTTP' sessions for the user :
- one for my BSP
- one for this Web BEx session
When I leave my BSP (by closing the browser for instance), my BSP session is well ended (thanks to session.htm and session_default.htm) but not my Web BEx session.
My objective is to end this Web BEx session
- either when I trigger an action changing the frame content
- or when I leave my BSP application
I have already thought about switching to stateless mode the call to the Web BEx. But I consequently loose my data when I navigate through the tabstrips from Web BEx window.
How could I do to end properly the statefull Web BEx session in any case ?

1.The internal table of results table could be created/inserted in BSP or in BW ODS/INFOCUBE ?? Or incase of this how to do it ?? How to connect that ODS/ODS Table with BSP Pages??
2.PLS Mail me how to publish through web Bex query as I am not trained in this aspect??

we can create two structures in the querl level.
we can able to create two structures on rows but on columns it allows only one structure.
key figures can be included in characteristics. characterstics can't be included in the keyfigures.
we can save the structure as global and locally.
from query performance point of view its not recomemnded to create the structure.
it decreasse the query performance.
