How to access/ recover files?

My user account is not functioning. Once i open it, the screen just becomes black and even if i turn off the pc and turn it on again, the problem is still there. i can open the account of my brother but i can't access my files through there. is there a way i can recover my files in my user account? i will be waiting for your reply. please... thank you very much!

Yes, sharing a TM disk is a bad idea, and disks are cheap enough so that you don't need to.

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.

press Shift+cmd+G while your finder window is open and active, you will get a new window with the field where you can write /etc/hosts
Anyway to edit hosts file you should open it with the sudo command, this can be done in terminal window, not in Finder. Also easy and can be done next way:
press Shift+Cmd+U while Finder window is open and active, then choose Terminal.app, and after it opens enter sudo nano /etc/hosts. You will be asked for password - this is the password you enter then you installing new application. You should know few commands to edit your hosts file:
Previoius page/Next Page of the file - Ctrl+Y/Ctrl+V
Add record - Input the text you need on the last free line of the file and then press Ctrl+O
Delete record - put cursor on the line you want to delete and press Ctrl+K
Undo - Ctrl+U
Exit - Ctrl+X
After edit your hosts file you should update DNS records - in terminal window enter the command dscacheutil -flushcache
But if you really don't know what are you doing, my advice is do not touch your hosts file, ask for professional to do his job. Just like I'm doing usually. )))

Can anyone help me please. About one week ago I started experiencing a clicking sound coming from my Satellite L40 laptop. My laptop froze and when I restarted it, I was directed to the system setup with a message at the bottom saying
"Pri Master Hard Drive Disk SMART status bad, Backup and replace.
Press F2 to presume."
I have pressed F2 but I haven't a clue what to do?
Can anyone tell me how to backup my files before my hard drive has completly gone or if it has gone can I use another device to get them off.
I have tried to use the recovery disk but the disk is not responding??

This messages looks like an warning notification from the S.M.A.R.T.
It does mean that your HDD will eventually fail.
It could happen next days or it may not happen for a few months but the SMART capability has detected that the drive is going bad so it should be replaced as soon as possible.
It looks like your notebook is not very old so the warranty should cover all replacements.
I see only one way to access and backup the data. Possibly you could buy an external USB SATA HDD enclosure and could connect the HDD to another computer.
Im not sure if you will be able to access the HDD due to the malfunction but if you want you could try this.

How to access my files

My main computer (G5) failed and it's been repaired. But for the time being I'm working with my laptop. When I try to access my files in Time Capsule (Time Machine) I don't get the option to look at my G5 backups. When I click on the Time Capsule Icon in the side bar of the Finder window I see the G5 Sparse Disk Image Bundle that is 228.35 GB
How can I get the files I need from the G5 backups in Time Capsule?

It's very very simple.
Just double-click to mount the sparsebundle image.
Drill down a bit, and then you will see folders that are arranged in dates with the latest copy called "Lastest".
After you're done just unmount it.

I have successfully tested the Excel sample on WLS 7, and trying to run it on
the WLS 8.1.
Anyways, the common question for both is, how to access an excel files from different
locations (e.g. c:\path\1.xls, \\domain1\finance\fin.xls, \\domain1\marketing\customer.xls,
\\domain2\accounts\vouchers.xls)?
From example i can see that it picks from a specific path under repository.

The custom function sets the MS-Excel default directory to System.getProperty("user.dir")+"/excel"
(the domain directory), then opens the filename passed as a parameter. I assume
that if you pass in the fully specified path for the excel file ( like d:\MyDir\data\test.xls),
that it would open that file.

i want to access a xml file, using servlet, which is placed under WEB-INF folder.

I haven't tried accessing an XML file that is placed in WEB-INF folder.
Files under WEB-INF are usually protected from client/browser access, but a Servlet may be able to access it (not sure though).
What problems are you facing when you try to access an XML file in the WEB-INF folder?
If you can't access it from the WEB-INF folder , place it in any folder except the WEB-INF folder.
Also, if you want to protect the XML file then you could password protect it or deny access to it via .htaccess file, or simply return a 403 forbidden header.
