How to access sgv path within a symbol

Hi guys,
I am trying to make an interactive game where a player can customise a character (just change colour). A character is a symbol that has an svg file with character walk cycles. I am trying to change colour of some parts of the character.
I know I need to access paths of the svg image but I do not seem to be able to. I can access the svg image within the symbol (I managed to remove it from the symbol with .remove() ) but not the paths that are in the svg.
Can anyone help?
I hope I make sense
Cheers

Hi,
That is what I had been trying and had problems with...but I manages to get it.
Thanks for your help

  • How to show image from within a symbol

    Howdy,
    EA, Win7
    I've imported an img on to my stage, converted it to a symbol (and unchecked autoplay).
    Then I deleted the img from the stage, the symbol w/img still remains in the Assets > Symbols section.
    What I want to do now is simply have the img (that's inside the symbol) appear when I click on a button/text.
    Is this possible? I've tried...
    sym.getSymbol("image").show();       where "image" is the name of the symbol
    but this doesn't work. What am I missing?
    Thanks for any help,

    Thanks resdesign,
    Looked over the Edge API and it's kinda vague on how to interact with symbols. There's nothing that specifically says 'A symbol must have an instance on the main timelline in order to interact with it'. The API seems to make the assumption that that people automatically know that. Yet when I see something like the following from the Edge JSAPI...
    Access a symbol timeline from the main stage
    To access the timeline of a symbol from the main stage, use the following in your event:
    // Play the symbol timeline sym.getSymbol("symbolName").play();
    ...it makes me think that I can just call up the symbol on to the the main stage without having an instance of the symbol already on the stage/timeline.
    Would be curious to know where in the API it mentions that in order to interact with symbols they must have an instance on the main timeline/stage.

  • OWSM Policy - how to access subject from within protected service

    I am setting up a new instance of SOA Suite 11g for integration purposes at my organization. I am planning to use predefined WSM policies to protect the services (see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/b32511/policies.htm).
    Most communication is server-to-server (e.g. HR sending data to CRM), so it would make sense to use something like X.509 (i.e. oracle/wss11_x509_token_with_message_protection_service_policy). However, I have a requirement that the underlying services (BPEL processes, for example), must know the subject (i.e. the server) that sent the message. For example, did this incoming message come from the HR system or the CRM system. This is used internally by the BPEL process for audit logs and other things.
    We also use OAM, so I will likely eventually use the oracle/wss_oam_token_service_policy to verify ObssoCookie values. In those cases, the underlying Java service or BPEL process will need to have access to the username of the authenticated user.
    I've searched and searched the documentation, and I cannot find any instructions about how to access details about the authenticated subject (such as username, roles, or X.509 properties) from within the protected service, whether it be a Java-based service, a BPEL process, or anything else.
    I did find some information about how to read SOAP header values from within Oracle BPEL processes (see http://chintanblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/insertextract-soap-headers-in-bpel-it.html). However, this looks like it will only work if I use the WSS UsernameToken policy (e.g. oracle/wss_username_token_service_policy), since that is the only policy where the actual subject identifier (username) is specified in a SOAP header.
    Do the other policies (X.509, SAML, and OAM) provide a mechanism to convey properties of the authenticated subject to the underlying service? If so, where is this documented? Thanks much!
    Sincerely,
    Nathan Kopp

  • How to access APEX variables within compiled pl/sql function.

    Hi,
    My initial problem is to create pl/sql code returning column names for my custom calendar report.
    There are 7 columns for each day of the week and I want it to be on two rows - first the day of the week, such as 'Monday' and below it (with BR tag) the date, such as '18-08-2008'.
    What I want is to set additional tags for underline, italics, etc. on the column heading which date is currently selected for viewing (I have DATE item for this purpose).
    But as the code is getting quite complex, I decided to write a function in my schema that would return the column delimited values for the headings.
    What I can't do is the following.
    1) How do I reference an APEX item value, such as my DATE item? using v('P4_DATE') results in unknown function 'v'.
    2) How do I use char-date and vice versa conversion using the already set application format mask, available in APEX 3.1? So that when I change the date format mask within the application, it would still work.
    10x and I hope I'm not repeating s.o. else's question.

    Hi,
    I won't try to create the entire function here, just enough to point you in the right direction.
    Create a function something like:
    create or replace FUNCTION "GETHEADINGS" (inDATE IN VARCHAR2, inFORMAT IN VARCHAR2)
    RETURN VARCHAR2
    IS
    BEGIN
      DECLARE
        vTHISDATE DATE;
        vSTRING VARCHAR2(1000);
      BEGIN
        vTHISDATE := TO_DATE(inDATE, inFORMAT);
        vSTRING := TO_CHAR(vTHISDATE, inFORMAT);
        RETURN vSTRING;
      END;
    ENDinDate would receive the item's date value and inFORMAT receives the date format. vTHISDATE converts the date supplied into a date using the date format and vSTRING turns that into a string, again using the date format. Obviously, this example will just return the original date.
    To add styling to any column, just surround the column text with the appropriate tags whilst building up your string. For example:
    '<i>' || columnheading || '</i>'Now, in your report's Report Attributes, change the Headings Type to PL/SQL and enter in something like:
    DECLARE
    vHEADINGS VARCHAR2(1000);
    BEGIN
    SELECT GETHEADINGS(:P1_DATE_FIELD, :PICK_DATE_FORMAT_MASK) INTO vHEADINGS FROM DUAL;
    RETURN vHEADINGS;
    END;When you've created the function you need, the string returned should be in the column headings delimited with colons.

    Harbs,
    There isn't anything like a scripts palette in Bridge.
    Because your working on a selection, you'll need to add a menu item to bridge.
    You can also navigate to the folder containing the scripts and double click it. But then the script is the selection...

  • How to access a variable from within a symbol.

    How do I access a variable set outside a symbol from within that symbol?
    Thanks

    If you set a variable on stage ,say
    sym.setVariable("stageVariable", "I am stage variable");
    You can access it from within  a symbol using :
    var myVariable = sym.getComposition().getStage().getVariable("stageVariable");
    Basically you need to get handle to the symbol in which the variable is defined.

  • How do I set a variable on the main timeline from within a symbol?

    Just getting started with Animate and coming to it from Flash, as may be apparent from my question. How do you set a variable to the main timeline from within a symbol?
    I have 24 pairs of clickable elements, each in their own symbols, and all 24 of those symbols sit inside another symbol. I want all 24 to be able to set the same global variable when clicked. I can't find that this question is addressed anywhere, which makes me think I may be stuck in a Flash mindset and approaching the task in the wrong way. (There are however MANY discussions of how to address objects at different levels in the hierarchy. That's well covered.)
    Relatedly, how do you access a function on the main timeline from within a symbol?
    Adobe should consider putting together a support page (or pages) just for folks migrating form Flash. In the materials I've encountered so far there seems to be a studied effort to refrain from mentioning Flash in any way. I imagine there are a lot of people out there like me who have a deep background in Flash coding, but are just getting started with Animate. We don't need help with most of the basic concepts, but we may still have some pretty basic questions about how to accomplish some things in Animate because our Flash knowledge is getting in the way.

    Hi Bill,
    There are plenty of threads on here about scope, but here's one way to create a global variable:
    // code on Stage.compositionReady
    sym.myGlobalVar = 1;
    Then, anywhere in your project, you can check/set that var like so:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().myGlobalVar = 2;
    And here's one way to create a global function:
    // code on Stage.compositionReady
    sym.myGlobalFunction = function(){
              console.log('myGlobalFunction');
    Then, anywhere in your project, you can call that function like so:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().myGlobalFunction();

  • How to access properties of symbols in loaded SWF?

    I'm making the migration from Flash to Flex, but I'm running
    into a dead end on one particular area: accessing and manipulating
    properties of symbols in a loaded SWF.
    The SWF is actually a simple library of a detailed parts
    illustration. I would like to load the entire SWF in position, and
    be able to change the attributes (i.e. colors) of individual
    symbols (or parts of the illustration). I can load, display and
    manipulate each symbol separately, but I need the parts to remain
    in place.
    The original art was created in Illustrator and exported as
    SWF using the symbols palette.
    I can always go back to Flash, but I'm forcing myself to move
    forward and do this project in Flex (baptism by fire!!).
    Is there some sort of dot notation to access the symbols from
    within the SWF, without loading them all separately?
    Let me put this another way: it appears that I can load an
    SWF and then instantiate each symbol in that SWF, and then load
    each symbol to the 'stage' (or whatever it's called in Flex)
    separately.
    I can certainly instantiate each symbol separately, and then
    align it on stage, but it seems to me to be bass-ackward to do it
    that way, expecially since I created the original SWF with
    everything in position.
    Is there no way to access the attributes of the individual
    symbols within an SWF without separately instantiating them?
    I'm just having trouble getting my head around this. Any help
    is greatly appreciated.

    Okay, I took a look at this info and it's what I was already
    doing.
    Here's a simplified example of what I'm trying to do, using
    the example in the swf9.pdf file.
    Let's assume I've created a SWF with a "BlueSquare" movieclip
    (in the symbols panel in Flash, exported for AS). In that clip,
    there is another symbol called "Star". I import the SWF and
    BlueSquare symbols in with the following code:
    <mx:Script>
    <![CDATA[
    [Embed(source=”../assets/circlesquare.swf”)]
    [Bindable]
    public var LogoCls:Class;
    [Embed(source=”../assets/circlesquare.swf”,
    symbol=”BlueSquare”)]
    [Bindable]
    public var LogoClsBlueSquare:Class;
    </mx:Script>
    If I instantiate the BlueSquare on stage, it includes the
    Star symbol when previewed, but I can't figure out how to get at
    the Star symbol to change color. If I apply a color change to the
    symbol, it changes the entire BlueSquare symbol.
    If I instantiate the Star symbol separately, I can then
    position it on the stage and make changes, but that requires
    positioning it with actionscript. I'm trying to not have to
    position a sub-element of my actual artwork because of it's
    complexity.
    I'd like to display the main movieclip (or sprite) with the
    ability to access the attributes of a sub-movieclip or
    sprite.

  • How to delete a path item from within a group item?

    I am generating and downloading QR codes in vector format (.eps).  I use VB scripting to place each QR code into an Illustrator document for later laser etching as a batch.  Each QR code is comprised of a bunch of small, individual filled squares all enclosed in a single large transparent square.  Here's a sample of one of the QR codes: http://laserfolly.com/2753.eps  When etching, the laser control software interprets the outside bounding square in such a way that it confuses its "inside out" algorithm used to determine whether a given path item should be etched, i.e., is it "filled".  This causes the some of the individual squares to be interpreted as not filled... even though they are.  If I delete the outer bounding square path item then all is well.  But there are hundreds of these codes in every batch... so it is time prohibitive to delete those outer squares by hand.  Here's my ask: does anyone know how to use Illustrator scripting (I'm using VB) to identify that outer square and delete it at the time that it's placed in the batch document?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
    Bob

    Thanks, Mark.  That makes sense.  However, when I search all the paths in the document there are none that have a true clipping property.  My suspicion is that the bounding square is just that, a square drawn by the qr code api as a frame around the code.  You got me thinking though.  I figured out that I can identify the relevant path simply by it's dimensions and then delete it.  So here's the new sticking point: I don't think the Illustrator object model allows for interrogating path items within a group, i.e., you have to iterate through all the pathitems in the document.  Ideailly, I'd like to be able to look at only the paths within the QR code, which I add to the document as a placed item... which Illustrator treats as a group.  This document has tens of thousands of paths and so looping through all of the them to find the 50 QR codes would be super inefficient.  What do you think?  Is there a way to iterate through just the paths in a placeditem/group?
    RE VB vs. JS, I can write in both but there are a lot of reasons I'm using VB on this project.  The main reasons are that the customer is using Excel for data internally and Excel VBA is a really strong VBA object model.  I've also written more than 500,000 lines of the stuff in my career so I'm pretty comfortable solving complex problems with it.  Also, the IDE and the run-time debugging engine is oh so great for rooting out the nasties.  :-)

  • Set image src within a symbol - How?

    I have created a symbol in Edge Animate, which contains a rectangle as view area and an image and text as contents of that view area. I want to set text and image src before I start the animation of the symbol. I can set "Text" with
    var thing = sym.getSymbol("mySymbol");thing.$("Text").html("I can set some text here to change the content of Text.");
    and when I start the animation of that symbol, the new text is used. Question now is, how I can set the image source for the item "Image" within that symbol. I have looked into the files Edge Animate creates, and the text as shown above is in a field called "text", while the name of the image is contained with other information in a field called "fill". I don't have a clue how to set the image source. Any pointers?
    I don't want to create 24 instances of something for an advent calender, I just want to have one, which I fill through JavaScript, before the animation is shown. All text and all images have almost the same size, so this should be doable somehow.
    The follow on question would be, whether the preloader loads all 24 images, because they are not actually referenced in any EA object...
    Thanks in advance!

    This tutorial (with sample file) should assist with what you are attempting to accomplish.

  • How to access symbol from different stage

    Hi everyone,
    I'm really new at Edge, so I still have a lot to learn and I need your help with something..
    I want to know how to access a symbol from another stage, here's what I've and what I want to do..
    I've the main index page with symbol named "content", in content I load other composition (page). called "page2".
    all I want to do is when I click a symbol "XX" inside "page2". The "content" symbol loads other composition called "page3".
    I don't know how to access "Content" from "page2", so I could load "page3" ..  that's it
    I feel like it's simple, but I just couldn't know how to do it, I',m sorry for bothering you for such a question, but I've searched a lot and I got nothing.
    Thanks
    I thought I could use something like this
    var comp = Edge.getComposition("EDGE-638329");
    var stage = comp.getStage();
    var symp= comp.stage.getSymbol("content");
    EC.loadComposition("assets/units/stage1/s1_3/s1_3.html",symp);
    but it's still not working, could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    I have multiple compositions, where I need to go from one to another.
    I use click scripts in an element to do this, using identical pages with different animations on each page.:
    Click script:
    AdobeEdge.goLoc(url); //url is the URL of an identical new html page with a different animation
    Then I have a custom .js page that I use that has the function:
    AdobeEdge.goLoc = function(url) {

    If i have a symbol call "data" and within this i have 4 elements called 1,2,3,4 how do i add styling to all these elements without having to re-write code for each element.

    Hi Justin,
    1) You have a syntax error here: sym.$("data").css("font-family", "baumans, sans-serif", "font-size", "15px");
    sym.$("data").css({ "font-family": "baumans, sans-serif", "font-size": "15px"} ); // correct
    sym.$("data").css( "font", "15px baumans, sans-serif" ); //correct

    How to get absolute path of a form within the Forms 6i or 9i
    For example
    i am running a from "abc.fmx" from C:\myfolder directory
    can i get the form path 'C:\myfolder' by calling any any function from "abc.fmb"

    There is no direct call that will always work. What you need to do is call get_application_property(current_form). This may have the full path in it, depending on if that path was defined when the form was launched. If there is no path, then you need to use TOOL_ENV.GETVAR to read the Forms<nn>PATH and the ORACLEPATH, parse those out into individual directories and then check for the FMX in each.
    I already have some code to do all this for you see:
