How to automatically "fit to comp" any imported file?

Hello everybody
i'm using a plugin to dynamically import video files into some comps i previously configured.
All these comps are 1280x720 and this plugin, when triggered, basically takes hundreds of video files i have in a specific folder on my PC and imports them in AE and puts each one of them in each comp.
For my job i sell hundreds of videos per year during sport events (all videos have the same structure). That's why i use this script, which automates my work and automatically edits each video.
THE PROBLEM
The video files are not the same resolution. Some are 1280x720, some others are 1920x1080.
The plugin simply imports them and puts them into the comp, which means the 1920x1080 files will not be properly scaled.
As you can imagine, i can't open each comp and right click on the video and click "fit to comp" because, having hundreds of comps each time, it would be a huge waste of time, and it would be useless to use a script.
THE SOLUTIONS I THOUGHT
1) Is it possible to tell AE to automatically fit to comp any video imported into a comp? (something like "default scale to frame size" of PPRO)
2) If 1 is not possible, i came up with a weird but possibly working solution. In each comp i put a null object with an expression that changes the scale of the imported video. Hence, when the video is imported, the expression on the NULL object takes care of resizing the imported video. The question is: how can i tell that expression to change the scale of a video not yet imported (i already have the code of the expression, found somewhere ont the web...i just need to tell the null object to apply the expression to a video file that is not yet imported)?

Expressions don't work that way. They can't modify anything except the value of the property hosting the expression. You could have the scaling expression applied to a placeholder layer, but you'd have to modify the script to do a replaceSource() with the new footage. Or you could modify the script to apply the expression directly to the Scale property of the new footage layer. Either way, you'd have to modify your script.

I then right click the desired folder and choose import into this folder option. Why does LR4 insist on organizing my already selected destination into a sub-folder with a date by default?

If you do it this way all the time consider a different approach:
Manually copy your images from the card into your desired destination folder in the Finder/Explorer. Once complete drag&drop that entire folder into Lightroom. When the import dialog pops up select to Add the images to the catalog (not copy or move). You will end up with the exact folder structure reflected in your library.

You can generate BIAR files from the command line and thus automate this at OS level.

Automatically generating a comp for imported image sequences

hi, i'm quite new to After Effects scripting so bear with my newbieness;)
Basically i have a long list of shot folders which each contain a number of render layer folders which contains image sequences. I realised after a while that it is extremely tedious opening each shot folder and dragging the render layer folders into after effects, then creating a comp for them and also a shot folder for the sequences. Doing this for 60 shots individually takes hours and is boring.
Is there a way to run a script that can import all the shot folders in one big batch and then After Effects splits them up into their own seperate comps so i dont have to do it manually?
Any help or suggestions on this would be great,

thanks myrslok, that was really helpful. I installed Immigration and then discovered it doesnt work with after effects 7.0. (which im on). Is there a way around this, because i saw the demo for Immigration and it looks great

How can I tell iTunes not to import files that I want to sample listen too?

Let's say that I want to listen to a sample of something online. I download the file. When I click on the file iTunes opens, the file imports into my library and then it plays. How can I open the file without it importing into iTunes? I know that you can scroll over the file to play it, but I want to scrub around. My iTunes library has a bunch of random audio files in there now. If iTunes can't play without importing, is there any software that does that?

Click one of the downloaded files to highlight it. Hit command-i to bring up the info pane. Scroll down to 'Open with' (click the disclosure triangle if necessary) and click the drop-down menu - select the QuickTime Player. Click 'change all...'. Now all files with that extension will open with the QT player when double-clicked. Of course you can still drag them into iTunes if you should want them there.

Hi riddla182, welcome to the HP Forums. The programs you may have found, would probably all use the same technology to recover lost files. So if a few didn't work, its unlikely you will find a low cost solution for this. I do not have any recommendations on this topic.
There are many data recovery companies out there, and as I mentioned, it can be quite costly to recover data. You will have to research the actual costs, and determine if it is worth the costs to retrieve your data (if it is still retrievable).

How to automate loading data from a text file ?

I need to load a data form a text file automatically. (for example: every day at 6.p.m) .
It is possible to use DBMS_SCHEDULER with SQL LOADER ? or maybe u have others idea ?

assuming that the text file resides at the machine where the database is installed at you can create a procedure that use the built-in UTL_FILE package to read and load the data to the oracle tables. then create a job that use the DBMS_JOB or DBMS_SCHEDULER to create an automated schedule to run the job that calls the procedure you have created.
or assuming that the text file resides or at the local/client machine (example c:\ drive) on a windows xp platform. create a batch file that do a ftp to transfer the text file to the oracle database server and create a schedule job using the windows scheduler. also create a procedure that use the built-in UTL_FILE package to read and load the data to the oracle tables. then create a job that use the DBMS_JOB or DBMS_SCHEDULER to create an automated schedule to run the job that calls the procedure you have created.

I feel MSAD should be here but not sure as it is just new environment and we enabled MSAD.

Didn't download / upload all my files from my idisk account; now i need some for some study work; what can i do to access them?

As Apple announced over 14 months ago, iDisk was shut down at the end of June 2012. They gave a one month extension for any laggards to download their data, and finally turned off the servers, deleting all files at the end of July.
Did you not keep offline backups of these important files, as recommended by Apple? You should never only have one copy of any important file, especially if that one copy if stored on someone elses server you don't have control over, and more importantly when they say it is being shut down forever.

You could try my script ConvertFormat and see if you like the results. Would be easier than inserting the CDs and correcting the tag info again. Just be aware this is a one-way trip. Once you've thrown away some quality to shrink the files you can't get it back without going back to the source. You may better off investing in a bigger drive.
If you just want to squeeze more on the iPod you can use the built-in iTunes option to convert files to a lower bitrate as they are added to the device.

As John said, there is no mechanism to receive notification of import. The likely recourse is continuous polling (unless you get very creative..).
You can try optimizing. e.g.: every second (or less), see if the count has changed, if it's gone up, something's been imported, if not then probably not (check anyway once in a while..).

Yeah: Lightroom won't save custom metadata in xmp, nor read it if it's there, so you are pretty much on your own - you can save in a file, but if you save as non-standard sidecar Lr won't attend to it like it will jpg or xmp sidecar. For that reason it's often better to save in a separate dedicated location. You can save in image file itself, e.g. using exiftool if raw file, but that would make me nervous, and of course you'd have to have the logic to read it somewhere too..

Can anybody tell that how can I add any text file or any extension file in netbeans project as I can import image within project and I can use that image when I run jar file..I do not have to move that image where I run my jar file..It will automatically take that image file from jar file...I want this thing same for files...In which I can read and write within project....(I m using netbeans 6.0 and jdk 1.6)

May i try to explain once again.. I want a way to store a file (*.txt) in a package called "files" within my project. Now after compiling and making an executable jar of this project i wish to read and write to this *.txt file lying within files package. Though I m able to read this *.txt file ( with the help of getClass().getResourceAsStream() ) but i m unable to make any changes to this file within xxx.jar.
ex:
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter("c:/xxx.jar!/files/xyz.txt");

Hi,
Not sure you can do anything about this. I get vaiable import speeds - a lot depends on the actual disc. The Read Write spec is 24X but I rarely see speeds close to this.

How can I re-install FF without any imports from other browsers?

I initially installed FireFox because supposedly it allows me to run Sky Go which sadly Chrome no longer does. When I did so, I thought it would be wise to allow it to import my bookmarks etc. However, since I was not able to run Sky Go, they suggested that I unistall FireFox and reinstall it without any imports, this I have now tried twice without success to do; hence this question. All help gratefully received and greatly appreciated.

I had to re-think the sequence of events yesterday following very helpful support from the Sky Go team.
Sky Go had originally been installed on my laptop because I used it with Chrome.
Sadly and somewhat unexpectedly, (like overnight) last week, Sky Go no longer worked with Chrome. My first on-line Chat with Sky revealed that this was due to an upgrade by Chrome and it should soon be once again available; however, after a week, when it had not been resolved I contacted them again. I should say that in the meantime, Sky Go continues to work very well with Internet Explorer.
Yesterday I downloaded and installed FireFox with the option ticked to import bookmarks etc. when Sky Go was still loaded on the laptop. However, upon the advice of the Sky go Adviser, I did uninstall both Sky Go and Firefox, and reinstalled the FireFox and the FireFox version of Sky Go and when this did not work, repeated the attempt. Again the adviser was incredibly patient and helpful. He put this down to the original installation of FireFox during which I exercised the import bookmarks etc. option; hence my question. Is there any way I can reinstall Firefox now without it remembering that I originally chose to include the import option?
In the meantime, I continue to use IE for Sky Go but think I would really like to use FireFox instead.
