How to calibrate mixing level

Is there a way to generate pink noise in logic to calibrate the mixing level and if so how does one do it properly? I want to calibrate my mixing level with a c-weighted meter. Thanks.

Here's how it ties:
Much of this is backed by different sources and tests. The magic number you see is the avg foreground listening level where it is not too loud, not too quiet - one study I remember involved ( memory may fail ) a movie in a theater calibrated to this ( was it a Lucasfilm? ). This was attended by many people of different ages from different relevant industries. Afterwards, attendants were asked how the levels were, too soft, right, too loud - the result was a resounding right.
Now, transfer this into the sound creation process. If you know the level most people agree is the proper foreground listening level... you should probably spend a good time monitoring at that level ( you may do so already ), since ( Fletcher Munson ) our ears respond differently to frequencies at different avg levels. Your mixes will probably transfer better. Also, this allows you to set your levels appropriately when creating with a DAW since many of our digital devices have ceilings ( 0dB ). Then, you convince yourself to focus on your avg level instead of squashing the p*ss out of your mix - you just remove that component and focus on a good mix with proper dynamics and ample headroom instead of trying to get an insanely "loud" CD.
That's that for starters,
J

  • [SOLVED]Pulseaudio & Gnome - Mixer levels, S/PDIF

After years of keeping as far away as possible from pulseaudio, I thought I'd give it another try, well, this is my story:
(... I deceided to cut my rant, just the facts:)
After installing pulseaudio, everything seemed to be working fine, except that the S/PDIF channel always became un-muted upon login to gnome.
I could mute it manually via alsamixer, and store everything just fine with alsactl, and all my mixer values were restored on reboot just fine.
S/PDIF stays output remains off right up until gnome loads. I presume that pulseaudio does 'something' to my mixer settings, but I have not been able to determine what that 'something' actually is.
Even worse, I installed both pavucontrol and parprefs, and after literally just clicking through the options in pavucontroll (specifically the output profiles) I now have no proper output devices, just 'dummy devices' and sound no longer works.
I deleted ~\.config\pulse and rebooted, and it still is misconfigured.
How can I tell pa to leave my alsa/hw mixer levels the hell alone, this is assuming I can get it back to how it was before I started messing with pavucontrol...

  • Mixer Level/Reference Level

I feel like I'm starting to become a regular here on the RF discussion board.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not...
I'm making some measurements using the 5660...and the results seem unnecessarily noisy.  I'm concerned that perhaps I'm not setting the "Reference Level" correctly.  Could somebody clear up the definition of the mixer/reference levels?  In "traditional" mixer notation, there's the RF (input) port, the LO (reference) port, and the IF (output) port.  How do the 566x's define this in relation to the mixer/reference level?  All of the help documents just list how the attenuation is set based on the relative levels...but it's still a bit confusing as to what I'm setting when I input a level for the "Reference Level" field, and furthermore, what the optimum level should be based on a particular application.
    Brandon

    Hi Brandon,
Is always good to fully understand what is going on in this field of RF (and yet it is hard to tell sometimes).
The objective is this. Whatever your signal amplitude or power level is, it better be satisfying the needs of the mixer. That is where, the mixer level comes into picture. Our goal is to bring our signal level up or down so that it meets the effective signal level.
Look at the following drawing and I hope your questions are cleared with this.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to find the level of each child table in a relational model?

    Earthlings,
I need your help and I know that, 'yes, we can change'. Change this thread to a answered question.
So: How to find the level of each child table in a relational model?
I have a relacional database (9.2), all right?!
O /* This is a child who makes N references to each of the follow N parent tables (here: three), and so on. */
        /↑\ Fks
       O"O O" <-- level 2 for first table (circle)
      /↑\ Fks
"o"o"o" <-- level 1 for middle table (circle)
       ↑ Fk
      "º"Tips:
    - each circle represents a table;
    - red tables no have foreign key
    - the table in first line of tree, for example, has level 3, but when 3 becomes N? How much is N? This's the question.
I started thinking about the following:
First I have to know how to take the children:
    select distinct child.table_name child
      from all_cons_columns father
      join all_cons_columns child
    using (owner, position)
      join (select child.owner,
                   child.constraint_name fk,
                   child.table_name child,
                   child.r_constraint_name pk,
                   father.table_name father
              from all_constraints father, all_constraints child
             where child.r_owner = father.owner
               and child.r_constraint_name = father.constraint_name
               and father.constraint_type in ('P', 'U')
               and child.constraint_type = 'R'
               and child.owner = 'OWNER') aux
    using (owner)
    where child.constraint_name = aux.fk
       and child.table_name = aux.child
       and father.constraint_name = aux.pk
       and father.table_name = aux.father;Thinking...
    Let's Share!
    My thanks in advance,
    Philips

    Justin,
    Understood.
Nocycle not work in 9.2 and, even that would work, would not be appropriate.
With your help, I decided a much simpler way (but there is still a small problem, <font color=red>IN RED</font>):

  • How to reduce the level of free text / direct purchasing

A common problem at all sites is how to reduce the level of free text / direct / non catalogue based purchasing. This is where users enter an account assignment and free text instead of using an existing material number.
This is often the case because it is too "dificult" for the user to search and find the correct material number.
How have other sites handled this?
has anyone found a solution that if a user enters lets say "paper" into the free text box, a pop up appears with a match on possible materials with the word "paper" in the short description? This sounds like a pretty easy function to implement? Does anyone have the code?

Yes this works, but you have to tell that the user has to enter the text  in the material number field, then SAP will search thru the database.

  • How to implement row level security?

    Hi all,
There is a database which is for 3 companies to use it and how to use row level security to make sure that they can only manipluate their own data? For example, "employee" table, for each company they just can see their own employees information. How to use dynamic view to do it?
    Many Thanks
    Amy

Here are two options to achieve what you want.
    A. You can do this by coding, that's if you are ready to. Are you? If yes then try the steps below:
    1. create a security codes table. Say for example
    001 - company a
    002 - company b
    2. create a security table that will list all users and which company they should have access to. You can also implement this by roles.
    3. alter all tables in the application schema to add a security code column. This will be a foreign key reference to table created in 1 above.
    4. update all data in the tables according to which company they belong to.
    5. write a procedure or package that does a validity check whenever a user requests for data. This procedure/package determines which company data the user has access/rights to.
With this, you should be able to achieve what you want if you do not want to spend on VPD and FGAC. The problem comes where there are users who would have cross access to data from both companies. In this regard, then you have to modify your security table a little bit to handle this.
    B. This option i will admit is not so clean. You can also achieve this by two different views for every table in the application schema. And on each of these views, create a private synonym for every user. For illustration purposes:
    Table name = Employee.
Create a view employee_a on employee
create a view employee_b on employee
Let's say you have users x and y. X has access to employees of company a and y has access to employees of company b. You can now create private synonyms for each of these users as follows:
create synonym employee on employee_a in x schema.
create synonym employee on employee_b on y schema.
This i have not tried but believe should work.
Hope one of these options serve your purpose.

  • How do I mix text and Html format in a java mail?

How do I mix text and Html format in a java mail? some part I want to keep the text format, the other part I want to use Html functions(like fond, color, etc)

You don't mix them. Pick one or the other.
However if you want to have a text version and an HTML version, so that mail readers that don't handle HTML can see regular text instead, then you could produce a "multipart/alternative" message. There's an explanation of how to do that in this article:

  • How to calibrate my iPad battery gauge?

I heard that draining iPad battery to 0% is harmful to battery. So how I calibrate my battery gauge without fully discharging it?
I hope somebody will give me a clear answer to this.

When the guage says 0% the battery still holds a safe charge. The guage is only an indication, and the phone (being smart) ensures that the battery charge can get neither damagingly low or overcharged.
Once a month or so, run the iPad, ignoring battery warnings, until it powers itself down. Then plug it into its charger and charge it up to 100%. That's it.  The battery couldn't care less about this procedure, but it will as you say calibrate the gauge.

  • How can I mix up the photos in a file?

I am doing a slide show for my child's teacher.  I am using about 400 photos from 6 different events. How can I mix up the photos so the slide show is in a random order rather than chronological?

So, you're exporting photos from Lightroom, then rolling them into a slideshow using a different program, and that program does not support randomization - did I get that right?
If so, then indeed: it's as Paige said: no way to export in random order without a plugin or script or something.
Here's one possibility: put them in a collection, then shuffle the collection using the "Shuffle Photos In Collection" script available here:
    http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/MiscLrPlugins/#MiscScripts
(they're free scripts I wrote - kinda like plugins, but simpler..).
Then export all photos in the collection with a sequence number prefix so they're in proper order (alphabetically) on disk - then your slideshow program will have them in random order - makes sense? (try it before answering ).

How to check ink levels of a 4620 using windows 8.1

    Hi krmoss,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that you would like to learn how to check the ink levels on your Officejet 4620 printer.
The steps on how to check the estimated ink levels can be found in your User Guide on page 74 in the section titled “To check the estimated ink levels from the printer control panel”.   If you have installed the full feature software and driver for your printer onto your computer you can open up the HP Solution Center and check the from there as well.

  • C How to Set Isolation Level in the Connection String

How to Set Isolation Level in the Connection String using the "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 Version 4.0"?
We are trying to move from Crystal Reporting that run against a IBM DB2 database on a mainfram to SSRS reporting and we have downloaded the "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 Version 4.0" and then worked with the DB2 Administrator to create the
Packages.  We only have access to use the "Read Uncommitted ("MSUR001") package.   We were able to connect and pull data before he removed access to the other packages, but after setting access the Connection keeps trying to use
the 'Cursor Stability (MSCS001)" package.   How do we change the Default to the "Read Uncommitted ("MSUR001") package???   Since it is keeps defaulting to the the other package
we can't connect to do it in the T-SQL query, it has to be set at the Connection String level.

    Hi Dannyboy1263,
According to your description, you want to set the Transaction Isolation Level in Connection String. Right?
In Reporting Services, the Connection String for OLE DB Connection can only contains Provider, Data Source and Initial Catalog. There's no property for setting Transaction Isolation Level in the Connection String. Based on my knowledge, we can
only set the Transaction Isolation Level at Query level or set it by using code (C#, VB, Java...) to call the property of Connection. So unfortunately your requirement can't be achieved currently.
