How to completely embed a font

When I save as a pdf, no matter what settings I use, I only get a subset of the font used embedded  in the resulting pdf. Does anyone know of a way to do this?
I have tried using pdf/x1a. I have tried using an export set from Indesign that does embed the complete font. I still only get a subset.

In general, I agree that a subset is ok, but not in all cases. Some rips error out and say that a glyph is missing. Also sometimes we do need to edit.
Actually, I would prefer that people did not use fonts in Photoshop, but sometimes you have to work with what you have....

    Can anyone tell me how I can embed multiple font outlines in

    I was using the Character button in the properties manager

    In the Properties manager I can choose Bold and/or Italic.

    If I dont select them in the properties, however, Flash will

  • CS6: How do I embed a font into an After Effects project so I don't have to install fonts on all my render machines?

    Just as the title says: I don't want to have to manage fonts on my render machines. I just want to embed the necessary fonts in the AE project file. However, I'm not able to figure out how to do this.
    Ideas?

    You can not embed fonts in AE. An After Effects project only contains links to assets and a script that tells the render engine what to do with the layers. If your animations are set up correctly you may be able to either create the type in Illustrator and create outlines or rasterize type in Photoshop, or create shapes from your type in AE using the Layer>Create Shapes From Text option so that you don't need the fonts.

  • [SOLVED] How to completely 'reset' default font setup?

    In trying to improve the look of the fonts on my system, I've gotten myself into a situation where some programs either no longer start (Keepass)  and others have blank windows (Thunderbird).
    I've installed infinality--and then followed this guide http://www.binarytides.com/gorgeous-loo … ntu-linux/
    So, basically, I've just made everything worse and would like to 'start over'.
    Is there a way to put everything back the way it was (font-wise)--as with a new install (or close to it)?
    Thanks in advance!

    Why have you followed a guide for Ubuntu?

    You should remove ~/.fonts.conf

  • Completely Embed Font (not Subset) in PDF several methods not working

    Hi,
    I have an Illustrator CS5 file, on a Windows 7 PC.
    I have used "Save As" direclty from Illustrator, also "Print" with Distiller and finally the Acrobat Pro 9 "Preflight" "Fixups" to Embed Fonts.
    This has included setting subsetting to 0% and in the "Print" dialogue when using the Distiller method, changing the font dropdown to "Complete".
    I do not want to convert my font to outlines, because of the changes this causes. I do not want to subset - but completely embed the fonts.
    This is driving me insane, and I really would appreicate any suggesstions. Please help!

    Thank you for your excellent posts. I am saving your posts for future reference.
    I e-mailed the printer and got this reply:
    "A 100% font embedding is actually not possible in most InDesign versions and in fact Adobe’s product never do it. It is really a bug from Adobe and it doesn’t work! Subsetting is therefore also perfectly fine and doesn’t pose a problem at all for printing."
    I think the instructions from their website are rubbish. They seem to do this to cover their own backs / make statements that aren't true just to keep everything simple, so that truly idotic people can still create PDFs to send to them for printing. Whenever I e-mail them, I get intelligent replies, that usually contradict the rubbish on their website.
    They accept PDF-2008, so their workflow can't be that old, I guess. (I'm a designer, I just know the minimum required about print technicalities!)
    Our previous printer wanted everything in PDF-X1a, and subsetted fonts, and they had no certifications of any kind, yet we always got good results from them.
    onlineprinters.com say this about their certifications: http://www.onlineprinters.com/Certified-quality.htm?websale7=diedruckerei;02-aa&tpl=02-aa/ $ws-cms/uu_certicied_quality.html&type=zertifizierte_qualitaet_hnavi_b
    and they say they have the latest gear from Heidelberg and KBA:
    http://www.onlineprinters.com/uu_offset_printing.htm?websale7=diedruckerei;02-aa&tpl=02-aa /$ws-cms/uu_offset_printing.html
    and have 40,000m2 of production space. I think they know what they're doing, but whoever writes the website should be fired!

  • How to include certain shared fonts (AS2 on CS3)

    Hey everyone,
    I have a project which uses three different embedded fonts within it across a number of different swfs. As a result i have a separate fonts.swf file which contains the fonts and then i share them (so as not to have to load them within each swf file). The problem is that the three fonts can change depending on certain variables passed into the main swf file so the fonts.swf file actually contains about 12 fonts. Which three fonts are used are defined within the variables that are passed into the main swf file. Whilst this works fine it means that each time i have to load all 12 fonts which makes for a large filesize and takes quite a while to download on a slow connection (plus i want to add more fonts in the future).
    I can't for the life of me work out how to dynamically embed shared fonts so i only have to load the 3 fonts that are actually needed. I am currently using this method but this involves manually placing a movieclip on the stage (or exporting it in the first frame). I can't see how to do this using AS2 (which would allow me to create a separate swf for each font). Similarly if i use a shared library i'm not sure how i would go about only importing certain libraries using AS2 (rather than doing it manually).
    I would be incredibly grateful if anyone could point me towards the right way of doing this as i'm not sure what to do at this stage.
    Thanks so much for your help in advance,
    Dave

    To correctly use bold and italic style you have to embed a separate font for each in the library and set the font style in the font properties.
    With the TextFormat whole text is put on one font so you have to to the following then:
    txtExample.htmlText = "<font face='bold'>I am bold</font> <font face='italic'>I am italic</font> <font face='default'>I am default</font>".
    There is no other way than to use the font face property in html text to have different text styles within one TextField.
    ("bold" and "italic" are the linkage ids in the library)

  • How NOT to Embed Fonts in a Signature?

    I've seen the various threads relating to problems with fonts in Mail and unexpected results when received by someone with different settings or on a different operating system. This is exacerbated by the fact that our office standard signatures have some bold and smaller size text (for a disclaimer). Thus, messages will show up for some people with a different font in the body of the message than in the signature, unless their default vieweing font just happens to be the same as the font in the sig. For example, if my signature is set as Arial, and my "message font" set in Mail's preferences is also Arial, my message will look fine. However, if I send it to someone who sets their "message font" to Times, then the body of my message will show up as Times whereas the signature will still be Arial. This is true if the receiver is another Apple Mail user or a Windows Outlook user. Either way, the results look sloppy, to say the least.
    All the discussions revolve around how to force your font choice to show up on the other end. I explored that as a possibility, but I find the workaround (setting your "message font" as something different than what you want to send, and manually changing the font of EACH AND EVERY MESSAGE YOU WANT TO SEND before sending it) completely unacceptable, especially in a professional office environment. I looked into doing something with the signature, so that you essentially start typing your message in the body of the signature itself, thus inheriting its properties, but this doesn't work reliably since Mail puts its cursor before the sig, and certain text like "in a message dated...so-and-so said" will still default to no font.
    So if forcing a particular font to be embedded isn't the answer, how about making sure no font is embedded? Sounds like a plan, right? Well, that seems to be just as difficult because of the signature. I can't check the "always match my default font" box, because then it strips out the bold text and makes the disclaimer the same size. On the other hand, it seems to always embed whatever font is assigned to the sig, rather than just size and bold properties. The machines in our office that still run Panther (which is most of them, unfortunately), do actually send their signatures with no font embedded, but still have size changes and bold. I can't seem to find a way to do this in Tiger or Leopard. I understand the reason is that Panther sends actual RTF, but Tiger and Leopard send HTML. I tried some of the tricks to edit the signatures manually with an HTML editor and re-saving a web archive out of Safari, but I've had trouble getting this to work properly. Even so, this again isn't a viable solution for the whole office once we upgrade to Leopard, which will be happening in the next few months.
    So is there ANY way to make the signature and message body default to the same font, without having to resort to plain text messages?

    Did you come up with a solution to this problem?!

  • How do I embed fonts in TextArea?

    I was going to use a TextField with a UIScrollBar but godaddy disables UIScrollBar so I'm using a TextArea for my output.  So far I'm able to disable text input, load htmlText and use the TextFormat class but I can't figure how to embed a font in it.  Any ideas?
    Here's what I'm using now:
    var myFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    myFormat.font = "Bitstream Vera Sans";
    myFormat.size = 14;
    myFormat.leading = 2.5;
    externalLoad.load(externalReq);
    externalLoad.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textReady);
    function textReady(event:Event):void {
         bioText.setStyle("textFormat", myFormat);
        bioText.htmlText = event.target.data;

    I created this font symbol: http://www.jimslounge.com/Font1.jpg
    and chenged my code:
    import fl.controls.*;
    var myFont:Font1 = new Font1();
    var externalReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("bio.txt");
    var externalLoad:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var myFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    myFormat.font = myFont.Font1;
    myFormat.size = 14;
    myFormat.leading = 2.5;
    bioText.setStyle("textFormat", myFormat);
    bioText.setStyle("embedFont", true);
    //    bioText.textField.embedFonts = true;
    bioText.textField.alpha=0.5;
    externalLoad.load(externalReq);
    externalLoad.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textReady);
    function textReady(event:Event):void {
        bioText.htmlText = event.target.data;
    I've tried both the options for embedding you see in the code and in both cases it dosen't even apply the font let alone embed.

    Indeed, I was unaware of the enormous number of options that can be selected when converting a WORD file to PDF.
    I went thru the settings and found the right one for embedding the fonts.

  • How do I completely turn off font smoothing on my MacBook pro?

    I am at a loss. I've seen dozens of people complain about this, but I'm still hoping there's a solution: How do I turn off font smoothing on my MacBook pro? I've toggled the anti-aliasing options every which way, and no matter what I do, the text is always slightly blurry (there's always a slight halo of grey around the characters to smooth them out). This would be the perfect computer if I could just turn that dang feature off completely, but as it is it's so hard on my eyes I can't use it for reading or writing for any extended period.

    DigiLloyd posted some aditional info on this subject, here:
    "Apple abandoned useful font smoothing user interface support in Mac OS X Leopard for a “moron setting” in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, leaving those with non-Apple displays high and dry with unattractive text display.
    You’ll need to use Terminal to set things right (or at least better, which is not to say optimal)."
