How to configure a plugged in usb device to use the winusb driver

Hi,
We have an app that uses an ANT+ USB dongle to tap into ANT+ messaging traffic and we would like to get our app up and running on the Raspberry PI running Windows 10 IoT.
Using Powershell I can see that the device is recognized when plugged in:
Name                           Property
126                            DeviceDesc          : ANT USB-m Stick
                               LocationInformation : Port_#0005.Hub_#0002
                               Capabilities        : 20
                               ContainerID         : {207a56e2-9393-5c49-bdd7-309b37712562}
                               HardwareID          : {USB\VID_0FCF&PID_1009&REV_0100,
USB\VID_0FCF&PID_1009}
                               CompatibleIDs       : {USB\Class_FF&SubClass_00&Prot_00,
USB\Class_FF&SubClass_00, USB\Class_FF}
                               ConfigFlags         : 64
I would now like to configure it to use the already available WinUSB driver so that we can 'talk' to it from c#. Is there any way I can do that like e.g. provide and .Inf file, but then, how do install that from powershell? On a regular windows device we
would be able to switch the drivers through the device manager or so but how to go about it on Windows 10 IoT?

What you might need to do is compare how this device is configured for use on your desktop system, and then duplicate those registry entries on your Pi device so it will attempt to use the WinUSB driver when detected.
This article talks about using remote powershell to modify the registry on a remote device:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2012/03/16/use-powershell-to-edit-the-registry-on-remote-computers.aspx
If that doesn't work or you still have problems can you please provide a screen shot of the following information:
In DeviceManager->Right click the device->Properties->Driver->DriverDetails.

I am trying to set up FaceTime on all my apple devices so I can FaceTime each device but all 3 devices are using the same apple Id and I have no idea how to sort this???

Facetime only works with two devices at a time. You can have the same Apple ID, but the two devices can't have the same email address. Get a new gmail account. Normally you use wifi for connection, however, with iOS 6 and an iPad 3 you can use cellular.

  • How to configure Java Plug-In to use Firefox keystore

Does any one know how to configure Java Plugin 1.5.0 to use the Firefox kesystore either in Windows or in Linux environments?
I installed and configured 'JSS' based on the information available at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/keystores .html.
but still the plugin is not using the keys from Firefox keystore.
I noticed the following messages in Java Console.
security: Accessing keys and certificate in Mozilla user profile: null
    security: JSS is not configured
    Thanks

I was having this same issue prior to installing the JSS on my machine.
I did not compile my own version of the code, but rather I took the jss34.jar file and put it in a 'jss' directory.
I also copied the jss3.dll and jss3.lib files into the directory where Firefox was installed.
That was all I had to do to get JSS to work for Firefox 1.0.4 and Mozilla 1.7.8.
If that still does not work for you, you always have the option to use the Java Plugin keystore instead of using the browser cache to authenticate certificates.
You can do that by doing the following on the Java Control Panel:
    1. Click the 'Certificates' button on the Security tab
    2. Import the certificate as a 'User' certificate (Make sure you select the appropriate certificate type)
    3. Disable the 'Use certificates and keys in browser keystore' option under the 'Security' section of the 'Advanced' tab.
    I hope that helps.

  • Laptop doesn't recognise any plugged in usb devices

laptop doesn't recognise any plugged in usb devices
    HP laptop G6000

I went to the BIOS to check the power feature settings. Here's what I have set with the BIOS-offered explanation for each option:
    - ACPI BIOS IRQ--> *IRQ9*  [This field controls what IRQ the Advanced Configuration & Power Interface (ACPI) will use.]
    - ACPI Standby mode--> *S1*  [Select which power level your system goes to during standby. If S1 is selected, power is maintained to all devices but all processor activity is halted. If S3 is selected, power is maintained only for the main memory. Exit from the S3 state may not be supported by all installed adapters.]
    - Hard disk timeout--> *Enabled*  [Allows HDDs connected to the system board to automatically enter low power mode after a period of inactivity (about 20 minutes). HDD adapters may not support this function.]
    - After power loss--> *Power on*  [Select "Power on" if you use a power strip to turn the system on.]
Yesterday I think I changed one of the above but it didn't help the problem with the detection of plugged-in USB devices.
Today I turned off (disabled) Wake on LAN. This didn't help either: after plugging in one or more USB devices, I still have to open Konsole and run lsusb to wake up the system which then detects the already plugged-in USB device(s) and asks me what I want to do, what app I want to use to read or use the plugged-in USB device. This of course is only a minor annoyance-- maybe I'll never figure out or learn why this problem has been happening in my recently acquired older (2005-built) IBM ThinkCenter desktop tower.
Do you still want to see the output of # lsusb -v  ?? Tell me where on the web I can post the long output of that command. [The output won't fit in this space-limited reply form.] Also, any more ideas on what could be wrong?

  • IPod stopped sync. just sync when you plug another USB device, e.g pendrive

As weird as it may seem all my iPods (i have 2 old Nanos, 2 new Nanos, one Shuffle and one Touch)stopped syncing. iTunes recognizes them without a problem. I can configure them to sync to a particular playlist but nothing really happens.
After a lot a work (plugged them in another PC to have 'em erased and all; reinstalled iTunes 9, etc) I just found out the strangest behavior: if I click Sync it takes a long time and nothing really happens. If I do it again anfd plug another USB device (like a pendrive) then sync goes smoothly.
Not sure why.. all I know is that I love the hardware but hate the software.
Maybe if I reinstall my PC the issue will go away...
    Any ideas???

It's probably not a problem with the shuffle.  Your computer's USB bus may not be providing enough power for all of your connected USB devices.  A typical USB mouse and keyboard are low-power devices, so you must have other devices connected...?  An iPod, because it charges battery from the USB port, is a high-power device.
I use a powered USB hub.  The hub has its own power supply.  I have the hub connected to the computer, and most of my devices, like iPods, iPhone, flash drives, etc. connect to the hub.  I use the USB ports on the computer for things I leave connected more or less permanently, such as printer and external drive.
Since the hub has its own power supply, devices connected to it do not draw power from the computer's USB bus.  So that is important.  Some cheaper USB hubs are not self-powered; they are powered by the computer's USB port.  I use an older version of this one
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/USB2HB7PRO/
but there are many options.  Just get one that has its own power supply.

Hey HoustonSmith, using to much power generally means a short. Do not use this cable, the lighting cables have a history of failure; shorting out. If within one year of purchase date take it to Apple, the cable also has a one year warranty, if short is do to manufacturing flaw and not abuse Apple will replace it free! Otherwise a new cable is around $30. You could also try a reset or restore, but don't think a glitch is your problem. If you do try to restore, just remember to make backup copies of all the info / data on this iPod to your computer first, then attempt to restore. Good luck. Cheers.

  • On my MacBook Pro with Retina Display, Why does the "USB Devices Disabled Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices" keep coming up after I unplugged the usb device?

On my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15", that I purchased a few weeks ago, started coming up with the following message on my desktop:
"USB Devices Disabled Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices".
I unplugged the device and the message still keeps coming up.
This is what I have done so far to troubleshoot:
I shut down the laptop. When booting up I pressed the command+option+p+r at the same time. It comes up with a menu to reinstall OSX, Get help online, Run Disk Utility, etc. I choose the disk utility and repair the disk and then restarted.
The message keeps popping up and I can't seem to get rid of it. Why does the message keep popping up even though I don't have any devices hooked up to the laptop at all? Any help to reenable my usb ports and get rid of the messaage would be helpful.

I talked to Apple Support and we at least stopped the bleeding, a little bit. These are the troubleshooting steps I did before I contacted Apple Support:
    1. Reinstalled OSX
    2. Restore the last known good Time Machine Backup.
This did not fix my issue, so I called Apple Support and they told me this:
    1. Turn Power off.
    2. Wait 15 seconds.
    3. Plug in Magsafe adapter.
    4. Wait 15 seconds.
    5. Hold down the Shift+Option+Power Button for 20-30 seconds.
    6. Turn Power back on.
Ok, this stopped the bleeding a little, but as soon as I plugged in a Apple USB Superdrive
and a Apple Mini Displayport to VGA Adapter. This "USB Devices Disabled" pop-up pops up like every 30 minutes now. At least, it is not constantly popping up after I close it, so I guess it will do for the temporary. Going to contact Apple support, later, though to see what else can be done.

  • HT4199 how do I fix it when "another device is using computer IP address" and I can't get wireless to work anymore? It used to work fine.

How do I fix it when "another device is using computer IP address"? Airport used to work fine. I've already tried turning everything on and off several times.

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

I can no longer charge my iPhone5 through either of my macbook pros. I get the error message that a USB device is using too much power. Can anyone help?

I reconnected the original powered hub that I thought probably caused the problem and this time it shut down the whole computer. When I rebooted everything now works perfectly. The system reset. I tried another powered hub and it didn't have the same effect so the old one is heading for the bin and with fingers crossed all systems are now working perfectly. Trying to reset PRAM or reset the SMC didn't work but causing the same power issue did. Thanks for your input though. It did get me to think what was the original cause.
    Cheers

The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

  • I have changed my Apple ID on my iPad, but my iPhone keeps popping up with the old ID.....how do I get all my devices to use the same ID?

How can I get all my devices to use the same Apple ID?

Different services on your iOS device (iMessage, Facetime, iCloud, iTunes and App Store) can be signed into with an Apple ID of your choice. Make sure you verify the settings for each device and that you are signed in to each service with the correct Apple ID.
I'll do an example for iMessage:
    1) Go to settings on your iOS device
    2) Select "Messages"
    3) Select "Send & Receive"
    4) At the very top you will see "Apple ID", by selecting your Apple ID, you will now have the option to sign out of messages with the current Apple ID, and sign in with the new one.
The steps for changing your Apple ID for other services will be very similar.
tHIS SHOULD BE VERY HELPFUL TOO YOU.

You can't. Return the phone for a refund, if you can, because without the previous owner's Apple ID/Password, you will not be able to re-activate the phone. It will be useless to you.
Apple can't/won't help you with this.

little wireless cameras would not have the ability to send back to the base, even thought the base can reach it.
Now if you take regular cameras and wire them into a Cisco switch that was attached to a wireless bridge that could shine back to the base...now you might have something, but your still going to have to do a survey/path analysis to determine if it is feasible.
Coverage isnt throughput. I see one base station with 3 or 4 sectoral antennas depending on direction, pointing two several distribution bridges to bridge the gaps that go out again to the cameras...something like that. And all of it should be higher in the air than your construction.

  • Problems with USB device when using WindowsNT

    Hi,
my problem is that I want to use a simulator which can only be connected with USB to the computer.
I used the VISA Driver Development Wizard as discribed in this link (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/6792BAB18242082786256DD7006B6416) and it didn't work.
I'm using Windows NT and VISA 3.1 and I read that it isn't possible to create a USB connection with VISA when using Windows NT. So my questions
    1) is this right
    2) Has someone a idea what I can do? I tried to use VISA USB Control and this also didn't work.
I hope I discribed my problem detailed enough. It's my first post.
    Thanks for your responses
    Joerg

As you can see in this table, USB is not supported by VISA under NT:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/EE34F21ECC2BE01286256C52005D1A1F?OpenDocument
I would recommend to use Win2000 or XP. Using one of these OSes you could use this turorial  to create your VISA-driver:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzoneweb.nsf/Opendoc?openagent&1D0DD81FF1448CAE86256D90006EE2B4
If it is not posssible to change the OS, you have to look for other ways of programming your usb-device. Check the web or the Microsoft site for help concerning Windows SDK and USB.
    Hope this helps a little!
