How to connect to discoverer plus thru jdeveloper 10

Hi,
Actually i have to generate reports using Discoverer ,And i'm using jDeveloper ,so i want to call Discoverer from jdeveloper,so for that do i want to have any class libraries to be ?..
And the tool discoverer plus and viewer r working Fine....
Suppose from my application i have a link of reports from there i will pass parameters from my jsp and then as soon as i submit my page i have to connect to discoverer plus to generate the reports...
So plz guide me how actuallly i get to discoverer plus with my jdevloperer...Is there any procedure in this way,from jdeveloper i have to connect to my discoverer.....

Do you have a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, chapter 16 on pages 548 to 612 cover OLAP in some detail. This chapter was written by Mark Rittman, OLAP expert extraordinaire.

OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again."

Currently there is not enough information to realy de-bug the issue. I would look at the URL and verify that the URL with the connections page is the same as after entering the connection information. The URL can change if there is a Load Balancer or Proxy server involved.
Run the Discoverer script below to verify the Discoverer server is up and working.

Next look in the Discoverer application.log for additional information about the error. It is located at:

Error connecting in Discoverer Plus/Viewer 10.1.2

When I run the checkdiscoverer. It works ok in all the checks except for: "Error: Failed to bind to Discoverer Server.
Hint: Try increasing the timeout by changing the timeout value in opmn.xml.". As the hint said I increased the start timeout, I got it up to 3500 and even incresed the minprocs to see if that helped. Nothing worked.
I'm testing this in a Windows XP Pro SP2 installed 1GB Ram. I Installed the BI Tools, App server but no infrastructure. The Installation process finished without any problems, except for a warning regarding not being able to determine the IP address. I can access all the options of the app server.

In your connection to the database are you using a DNS named server or are you using an actual IP address?
By this I mean, when you launch Discoverer, do you do it this way:
http://servername.domain.com:7777/discoverer/plus
or this way:
http://ipaddress:7777/discoverer/plus
If you are using the former, can you go to the server itself and run Discoverer ok? If you can then it is a case that your local machine cannot work out what the IP address is. Let's say, for arguements sake, that you server is http://myserver.mydomain.com and that the IP is 192.168.1.100
You could try editing your HOSTS file and inserting a line in there to associate the IP with the domain. To do this, follow this workflow:
1. Right click on Windows Start button and from pop upmenu select Explore
2. Navigate to the folder called Windows/system32/drivers/etc
3. Locate the file called HOSTS
4. Edit this file with Notepad
5. Insert a line like this:
myserver.mydomain.com 192.168.1.100
6 Save the HOSTS file and exit Explorer
This associates the IP with the server name.

You'll need to setup heterogeneous services. This is done by creating an init file for the SQL Server db with %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin that refers to a DSN for the Sql Server Database. The listener would also need an entry for the SQL Server DB DSN. After that you would create a dblink to SQL Server in your Oracle instance and then could query across the dblink.

Problem connecting to discoverer plus

Hello dear colleagues:
I am trying to connect to dicoverer plus from internet explorer browser, and while starting the product, after a file disco5i.jar (5,35MB) has been downloaded, I get this message "Verifing disco5i.jar" and in the window opened I get "loading java suprogram", but theses tasks remain stopped !!!
Anyone could help me ?

It could be permissioning on your PC. You need jinitiator installed on your PC. In our firm we cannot install software unless we are logged on as administrator

Connection to Discoverer Plus (10g) lost when exporting workbook to Excel

I have a user who was exporting a workbook to Excel and it showed that the export failed. When she closed that box, she got a message that her Connection to Discoverer was lost.
Anyone experienced this one? Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi Kevin
It will do this if you change the parameters away from the default and you have told Discoverer to remember parameter settings. This is controlled by an entry called SaveLastUsedParamValue in pref.txt on the server.
If this is the cause then its not a bug. All Discoverer thinks is that you have changed something. Even switching an item in Page Items could trigger this.
If you have users who only need to View reports why not use Viewer? You can turn off saving altogether there if you so wish.

How to connect to SQL*Plus and issue a query all in one command?

Does anyone know of a way to connect to a db with SQL*Plus, and issue a simple query, all with one command?
I know that I can save a .sql script with a query, then do this:
sqlplus user/pwd@db @myscript.sql
But I'm wondering if there's any way to put the actual query right into the connect command, something like:
sqlplus user/pwd@db "select count(*) from dba_tables;"
Does anyone know of a way to do this?

How to connect to 8i Lite from Jdeveloper ?

is it possible to use 8i Lite as Database Server within Jdeveloper environment ?
We plan to use a three tier architecture with:
Client : thin client
Middle tier : JSP+BC4J
Database Server : Oracle 8i ( for the central environment ) and 8i Lite for satellite systems (about 100).
The Central system use Oracle Replication technology to refresh data on Satellite environemnt.
Does it make sense to use 8i Lite ?

You can uses the latest version of the 8i Lite driver to connect from within JDev, but only using straight JDBC. None of the wizards nor the BC4J will yet work with anything other than a real Oracle RDBMS.

Trying to connect to Discoverer Plus or Viewer the following error

HI,
I am not sure that this is the correct forum.
The following error occurred: "OracleBI Discoverer has not been started or has been stopped. Discoverer was stopped by your Administrator."
Has anyone had the same problem? We are currently on version 10.1.2.54.25 of Discoverer and 10.1.2.2 of AS (Win2000 server). I did find a document (Bug.4457706) on MetaLink for an earlier version and I verified that start = true in the configuration.xml file. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I also noticed that a java.exe process was consuming 100% of the CPU on the server during the same time. Tho, it may be totally unrelated to the Discoverer problem. I have examined most of the log files and can not find anything of relevance yet.

When a user first logs-in we get an invalid username and password error even though the details are correct. It works the second time.

Check whether the java version is installed properly... Try 32-bit version of java instead of 64 bit..

How to hide discoverer connection page after opening discoverer plus?

Hi,
I invoke the following url in browser window 1 to open Oracle DIscoverer Plus.
I notice the browser window 1 will open a window (say i call it browser window 2) to display the Oracle Discoverer Plus application.
Once the Oracle Discoverer Plus java applet is fully loaded, the browser window 1 will show the Connect to Discoverer Plus page.
I wonder if we can configure not to show this page as my users might confuse to see a few existing connections listed there and in fact if possible, I don't want user to see the list of connections.
Anyway to get rid of the page?

I am trying to use URL parameters to keep Discoverer Plus from launching a new window after login. I notice that what works in Discoverer Viewer does not work in Discoverer Plus.
The following works with Discoverer Viewer :

Neither of the following two fragments prevent a new window from launching after successful login to Discoverer Plus :

To follow up on the link posted by CD, summarized here:
"The Discoverer network connection configuration uses a DHCP server to get its IP address. In the insallation instructions for the Application Server it suggests using a Microsoft Loopback Adapter and add a line in the HOSTS file to map the host name with the loopback IP.
This procedure appears to work fine with Discoverer 9.0.4, but doesn't always work with Discoverer 10.1.2
The workaround then is to try assigning a static IP to the server and uninstall the loopback adapter. With a static IP most of these connection errors should go away."
I would also add that you have to make sure that a fully qualified domain name is used on the server. If you have already installed Discoverer without a fully qualified domain name you will probably have to wipe the installation and start again.
