How to correct mail problem updating a gmail cache directory with 1844674407370955051594 headers

i have been using a 10.6 version os x mail app for months with a gmail imap account, without incident.
given apple's ssl failing, i was compelled to upgrade to 10.9.2, which includes a newer mail version.
over the past several days since the upgrade, given the fan sound it would appear that mail takes ever increasing cpu resource.
when the fan start up, a glance a top, shows mail at the head of the list.
on thelatest occasion, i opened the activity display and observe:
if someone could please explain what mail is attempting here, why it is failing, and how one might correct or avoid the issue, that would help much.

I finally had to get FuseMail to "reset the IMAP flags" on their end and everything seemed to resolve itself.

Sheesh. That looks hard. I think it will fall over at this point:
"Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP" 'cos Thunderbird uses only the regular email protocols: POP, IMAP and SMTP.
Here (at work) we have in the past have had IMAP and SMTP enabled on our Exchange server so Thunderbird could then connect just like to any other regular internet-based service.
With the change here to outlook365/outlook 2010 I've had to switch to using DavMail which lets Thunderbird talk to the mail server using OWA.
I haven't (seriously) tried Exquilla. Whilst I have great respect for its author and some of his other add-ons, I saw no reason to use an add-on that required payment when DavMail works for free.

'Limit exceeds'. How to correct this problem?

I am running sun one directory server 5.1 trial version. I have 20000 users and have created browsing index. The return size limit is 50000. I access the LDAP server using JNDI API. I get 'LimitExceeded' exception. Any ideas on how to correct this problem? This is very urgent as this is the setup our potential customer is running on and it has become a stopper for them.

Yes I tried the return size limit set to '-1' but it did not help. The search comes back with the exception instantaneously. Doesn't even look like it is trying to find something.

Firefox will not open. I have the message "Firefox crashed" and a statement that Firefox will restore my tabs and send me a message, neither of which has happened.

How to correct Mail 5.3 errors in OS 10.7.5 update on Mac Pro

Since downloading update to OS10.7.5 from Software Update in December, Mail (5.3) cannot send out and all SMTP servers are listed as "Offline". What has caused this and what's the fix??
I have 3 accounts in Mail, from 3 different mail clients with 3 different SMTP outgoing servers. I cannot send any outgoin mail and one one account cannot even open any INBOX mail listed prior to 29th December when I did the update of OS10.7.5. On the other two accounts I can open previous mail.
Have checked the settings of all 3 accounts and seem ok. I have Entourage on the same machine and there is no problem using the same 3 accounts on MS Office Entourage. So seems that it is Mail that is affected. But why and what's the fix?
I have tried and downloading installing the latest update as Mac OS10.7.5 Combo, but it made no difference? I am using a mid-2011 MacPro 2.3 Ghz Intel Core i5.
Grateful for any suggestions, advice etc.
I have put this problem up last week but have been struck by the number of similar Mail problems reported and the curious shortage of replies, let alone suggestions for fixes. Is there something about Mail problems that are so different form the general range of OS/software problems in Macs???

Did verify disk permission, repair disk permissions
Steffi, since you can not boot I will assume you did this from your install DVD under Disk Utility. Go back again and this time run the Disk Repair, if there are any error (red) message run the Repair again. Then check the SMART Status at the bottom of the window, it should say "Verified". Quit DU, reboot, then download the 10.5.3 Combo Update from the Apple site and try it again this time without any peripheral attached.

I am trying to send minutes of a meeting created in Pages to pc users by clicking on export then word. Recipients are telling me they cannot open the minutes which have come as a ZIP compressed folder. I have no idea what this is or how to fix the problem. Help?!

A pc user can open a .zip file by double clicking it.
If that does not work, you can convert the document to a .pdf by doing the following.
With the document active, type commannd + P (the print command).
In the next screen, on the bottom left, click on PDF, and in the drop down select Save as pdf...
You will be asked where the .pdf should be saved - the desktop is the easiest.
Now when you want to send the minutes, you have them as a .pdf file. Anyone with Adobe Acrobat Reder can open this.

Thanks for the question. It sounds like your issue stems from the insufficient funds on the credit card. Because the iTunes Store requires active payment information simply adding a separate card, or an iTunes Gift Card may resolve your issue.
The iTunes Store will place a minimal authorization hold on your credit card each time that you update your account information (equal to around 1 USD or your local currency equivalent). The authorization hold isn't a charge. The authorization hold is placed on your credit card to make sure that the information provided matches the information on file with your financial institution. The authorization hold won't appear in your iTunes Store purchase history.

recently started to run slowly especially while i tried to surf the web.. I decided to run Disk First Aid While it was running a highlighted Invalid B Tree Header,O,O, appeared then Highlighted was Mount check found minor errors. then it continues for a few seconds and I get message cannot continue an internal error has occured. I re ran the First Aid several more times but same messages each time. Can I fix these problems or is it time to put my Mare out to pasture...:( Thanks in advance for your answers........

I followed your directions and looked up the Boot Rom version it read $0004,28f1
That indicates your G4 is at firmware version 4.2.8, which is the most recent version for it - there is no further update, so your machine is OSX-ready.
I typed this in appleworks and when i went to save the message i get an error message so I tried again it would not let me save my notes. I wrote it down turnred my mac off and my daughter got on it a few hours later and calls me because at start up it goes through the usual functions but then on my screen its the Extensions manager.. This has never happened.
There is a startup keyboard command which will call up Extensions Manager before extensions start to load - this allows altering the current set of extensions during startup, which can be quite useful when trouble-shooting. The startup command which does that is to hold down the Spacebar from the beginning of startup. Since Extensions Manager apparently was called up during startup, it would indicate that either the Spacebar is stuck down occasionally, or something was resting on the Spacebar when your daughter started it up (the corner of an open book has been known to be sufficient to do that).
There is also the possibility of something else causing Extensions Manager to open - this would be the case if it appears after the desktop has loaded. Causes for that include having an alias to Extensions Manager in the Startup Items folder.

Until the damage reported has been fixed, odd things may start happening - the longer you wait, the less stable the OS will be.
Since your firmware has been updated to 4.2.8, it is okay to use the current version of DiskWarrior, one which boots to OSX.

How I solved mail problem

having suddenly not been able to get at my e-mail for over two weeks and trying everything I could read in discussions including, talking to someone in India twice, wiping disk and re-installing leopard (twice), each company was blaming the other, i did the following:
1. made an appointment at the local genius bar here in Korea.
2. made an appointment with the ISP provider, naturally using genius bar address, for the same time.
3. walked into the apple store, put both computers on the desk, and waited until Kornet (ISP) showed up.
4. proceeded to explain the situation to both of them (thru an interpreter) and suggested very strongly that they and I were not going home until this situation was fixed or I wanted my money back for the computers, all programs, and ISP payments.
5. lo and behold, they got together after a lot of arguing and worked it out.
6. E-mail works great, didn't find out what the problem was but I did buy them both lunch.
if I ever find out what had happened to solve it I will post it.

I have downloaded a movie, but it did not appear in itunes, I went to select "Check for Downloads" under store, and I received a message that there were 25 errors in the download. There is no information on how to correct the problem.

Yes, done all that but there is no adobe flash player listed in the add ons >plug ins site. However in the program listings on the start section adobe flash player is displayed.
I have tried down loading it again and although I have done this from downloads and it displays as done it does not reappear in plug ins.

How can I correct the problems I've been experiencing lately with drop-down menus in general as well as and leading of text. It 's occurring on both Safari and Firefox browsers.

The above headline pretty much covers the problems.
Access to the drop down menus is erratic. Sometimes it's problem-free, but at other times it's impossible to see the options on the menu, or if they are visible, it's impossible to effect a change by clicking on one of them. The times I notice it most is when I am trying to change fonts or font sizes, but it occurs at other times, as well.
It's also frustrating to have to deal with double spacing (for example, when describing items on eBay). Sometimes the text flows normally, but if I force a return, the text that follows usually is double-spaced.
Often, the justification option does not work either.
Occasionally, I can get around one problem or another by switching back and forth between Safari and Firefox, but eventually, the original problem resurfaces.
Because it happens on both browsers, eBay tech support is inclined to think the problem is in my software. (I'm inclined to agree.)
Although they have suggested clearing the history in FF, that option must have been relocated, because it'sno longer under the "Tools" menu, where it was in the past. I also can't find the clear your cache option on OS Safari or 10.8.3.

I don't think it'd help much but clearing history is now in the History menu, and setting FF to clear history on exit is near the bottom of the Privacy tab of FF Preferences.
Also, if you don't have the Develop menu in Safari, open Safari preferences, click Advanced, and select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.” You'll find "Empty Caches" there.
