How To Dynamically Set Selected Item in SELECT List in DW Object

Hi!
I hope I can explain this situation halfway decently...
I am creating a DW Object that captures specific metadata. In
this case, in the form I have a HTML <SELECT> list of
languages. When the language metadata attribute is first captured
in the form, the application adds the metadata
<meta name=language content="EN">
to the DW document correctly.
Now suppose the user wants to update their metadata.in order
to change the language attribute. I would like the metadata form
when it redisplays to have "EN" selected in the language attribute,
so that the user knows what the current value of the language
attribute is. If the user changes the language attribute to,say,
Japanese, the next time the metadata form displays, I would like
have "JP" selected in the form, again so the user knows what the
current value of the attribute is.
I looked at several of the well-known metadata extensions for
DW, but none of them exhibit the behavior I am looking for (usually
they have English as the default in the form)
This is probably easy, but I am just not seeing it. Thanks
for any help!

Hi Envision3D
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, none of this
information is stored in a database. It simply gets written as
<meta> tags in an HTML file. When the object is used again,
it reads the HTML file and pre-populates the form for the benefit
of the user. The application pre-populates the text-type inputs
correctly. It does not pre-populate the <select> inputs
correctly. It just leaves them blank. I was hoping to be able to
pre-populate the <select> form element with the selection
that is currently found in the <meta> tag.
<meta name="program" content="HR"> <==== meta tag
found in HTML file
Program: +-----------+
| HR | <==== pre-populated <select> form field
+-----------+
Thanks again!

  • How to dynamic set messageInputText item data type?

    Hi,
    I have a LOV and other messageInputText items on the page. I need to be able to change the messageInputText item data type based on the value selected from LOV. How can I do that?
    DD

    1)Allow PPR on the item that receives the LOV values
    2)Edit the VO query and create a SQL based column, which in turn will control the switcher. Something like –
    decode(nvl(to_char(EmployeeEO.END_DATE), 'N'), 'N', 'DataType1', 'DataType2') AS DELETE_SWITCHER
    3)Now add a switcher region with two cases in your page. Each case should represent the two possible values defined in the SQL based column ( “DataType1”, DataType2” in the above example).
    4)Add two messageTextInput items under each case, but with different datatypes.

  • How to make a SELECT LIST READONLY

    Hi,
    I have a form to update the existing values in a table. Primary column is based on a Select List.
    So when user goto update screen they SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE the primary filed(means the value display in the Select List).
    SO to make this one I have make that select list read only. But not like other items even when we make select list read only it still allow user to change the value. So basically read only property not working for select text.
    There are many post in this regading same issue. Some of them recomended to make it disabled. But when we make a item disabled then when user POST that form, Apex not POST any disabled item values. Basically disabled items values not passing next form. So making item dissable also not a solution.
    I have read almost 20 post in here regarrding this and didnt get any solution for this. So please let me know if anyone knows how to make a select list read only (which is working same as read only text boxes, means that value pass when user POST the form).
    Thanks in advance...

    You define a function(this is based aorund jQuery selectors) in the page header like
    <script>
      var makereadonly = function(selector, makeReadonly) {
          $(selector).filter("select").each(function(i){
              var select = $(this);
              //remove any existing readonly handler
              if(this.readonlyFn) select.unbind("change", this.readonlyFn);
              if(this.readonlyIndex) this.readonlyIndex = null;
              if(makeReadonly) {
                  this.readonlyIndex = this.selectedIndex;
                  $(this).css('background-color','#CDCDCD'); //Adds a background colour to readonly item
                  this.readonlyFn = function(){
                      this.selectedIndex = this.readonlyIndex;
                  select.bind("change", this.readonlyFn);
          //For input items
          $(selector).filter("input,textarea").attr('readOnly','readOnly');
          $(selector).filter("input,textarea").css('background-color','#CDCDCD');
    </script>and apply it using a jQuery selector (call it in the "execute on page load" or any other JS code)
      makereadonly('#ITEMNAME1,#ITEMNAME2,#ITEMNAME3',true);Not that all of these methods(that act at the client side) will only prevent the user from modifying it 'normally', they could manipulate these readonly items using Javascript(or using firebug or any tool like that). So its better to make sure that your don't use the item value(from the page) for processing.

    May be a rude way .. but it works.
    Add narrative view and use Java script to change the column headings based on the variables.
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    var a = document.getElementById('idResultsTableParent');
    var rows= a.getElementsByTagName('tr');

  • How to get Saved Selection list in javascript?

    Hello!
    Recently I met a little problem about save selection. I want to get saved selection list so that I can used in javascript. Now I have no ideals. Hope you tell me some useful information about how to get Saved Selection list in javascript!

    Mark is right, it's not possible.
    But do you know you can assign selection to a variable, and get back to it simply like this?
    var sel = app.selection;
    app.selection = null;
    /* your codes here
    app.selection = sel;

  • How-to Dynamic Hierarchy Selection.

    Hi guys,
    does anyone know how to implement "Dynamic Hierarchy Selection"? I have a main hierarchy but would like to filter it further while loading the hierarchy.
    E.g. I have a financial statement verison with both Balance Sheet and P/L items, i would like to separate the main into two new hierarchies, one BS and P/L hierarchies instead, apparently the infopackage allows you to write small codes to dynamically select which hierarhcy you want.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
    We donot have this type selection at the time of upload. The thing we can do is upload both versions into BIW and in the report we can use Hierarchy variable to have dynamic selection of hierarchy.

  • Using the States Example how can I set Selected to Maryland Without RowNumber

    Let's use the states example for the sake of everyone having
    the code in front of them. If I am returning a value from the
    database that I am writting out to the application like this
    <%out.write("STATE_NAME"); %>
    how can I set the selected value to that without knowing what
    the row number is, here is my try but I get a few error messages:
    <option spry:if="{name} == '<%out.write("STATE_NAME");
    %>'" value="{name}" selected
    ="selected">{name}</option>
    <option spry:if="{name} != '<%out.write("STATE_NAME");
    %>'" value="{name}" >{name}</option>
    I get double the states and the following in the debug box:
    Caught exception in Spry.Data.Region.prototype.processTokens
    while evaluating: Alabama == Exception:[object Error]
    Caught exception in Spry.Data.Region.prototype.processTokens
    while evaluating: Alabama != '' Exception:[object Error]
    This goes on for as many records as I have in the DB,
    Please let me know how it could be done if it could be done?

    I believe what you guys are looking for is the
    Set
    Default Row Based on Specific Column sample that is on the
    Spry
    Samples Page.
    The problem of using a spry:if="{name} ..." approach is that
    it only makes sure the form select widget is set to what the server
    thinks is the current row in the data set, but it doesn't actually
    set the current row in the data set to reflect this, so the cities
    select is out of sync cause it is defaulting to displaying the
    cities for the first row in the states data set.
    Checkout the sample I mentioned above, it will show you how
    to set up an observer where you can query for the correct row
    immediately after the data is loaded, and then set the current row
    so that everything is as expected.

  • Set select list using description

    Hi,
    I have been able to provide a value for a select list from another page when providing a code in the P6_NAME field e.g. P5_NAME_ID = &P6_NAME.
    I now need to choose an option from a select list using it's description rather than the underlying code the field is based on.
    Is this possible?
    Toby

    So if no other value has been specified already you just want the select list to have a default item already selected, right? OK, how about setting the Default Value Type for the Select List to "PL/SQL Function Body" and setting its Default to:
    DECLARE
       l_return_id number;
    BEGIN
       SELECT id
       INTO l_return_id
       FROM my_lookup_table
       WHERE description = 'Description of your default lookup value';

  • How to make a select list to return value to numeric column?

    I do have a select list with static values (STATIC:01;0,02;1,03;2,04;3,05;4,06;5,07;6,08;7,09;8,10;9). The problem is that I am returning a value to a numeric column. Therefore I have set 'Post Calculation Computation' as "to_number(:P73_MRGRATING, 9);" however I am getting ORA-01722: invalid number. How, (or when and where) to properly convert a character from a select list representing a numeric value into column of NUMBER data type?
    Thank you for your time.
    DanieD

    Sergio,
    It is because I am not able convert a value in a page item (:P73_ID) to number. On a page before, I have assigned a value to an application item (APPL_ID). On page 73, I want to assign the value in APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID . The value assigned to APP_ID is numeric. On a page 73 I also have a computation in Page processing section. It is an 'After Submit' processing of a static assignment of application item APPL_ID to page item P73_ID. Unfortunately it does not work. (ORA-01722: invalid number). I have tested this also with a 'Post Calculation Computation' on page item P73_ID (to_number(:P73_ID, 9999999999);) and I am still getting ORA... error. Only way I can make it work is to create a page item P73_ID as a text field, then when I run page 73 and enter a value into P73_ID manually - then it works and I can save the values from the form into database...
    The strange thing is that I am using application item APPL_ID on a couple of pages, in where clauses and it always works, even when I am comparing APPL_ID against a numeric value like select * from a_table where some_number = :APPL_ID, this works. But when I would like to create an entry form and assign application item APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID that is referencing a numeric table column – then I am getting ORA-01722…
    Is there any application (sample application) that is doing this and it works so I can check it and learn how to create this process appropriately?
    Thank you for your time.

  • JSP, DataWebBean: How to dynamically set the where clause of query and display record

    Hi,
    I am reposting this question as per suggestions made by Mr. Dwight.
    I have used ViewCurrentRecord web bean to display records from EMP table. I have to use the Dept_Id_FK from the current
    record of the EMP table to display corresponding records of Dept table. I have a view object called DeptView in my Business
    Components which selects all the records from the Dept table.
    How do I get the value of Dept_Id_FK and use it to display the required records of the Dept table?
    I tried to declare a variable and get the value of Dept_Id_FK but it did not work. My code is as follows:
    <%! String m_DeptId = null; %>
    <jsp:useBean id="RowViewer" class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.ViewCurrentRecord" scope="request">
    <%
    RowViewer.initialize(pageContext, "EMPApp_EMP_EMPAppModule.EMPView1");
    RowViewer.setReleaseApplicationResources(false);
    RowViewer.getRowSet().next();
    m_DeptId = (String)RowViewer.getRowSet().getCurrentRow().getAttribute("DeptIdFk");
    %>
    </jsp:useBean>
    Thanks.
    null

    First of all, Thank you very much for making use of the new topic format. It is very much appreciated.
    As for your question, I think there are several different ways to accomplish what I think you want to do.
    1. Create a view object that includes both Emp and Dept entities and join them there. In this case, your query would look something like this:
    Select e.empno,e.name,...,d.dname,d.loc from emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    You should be able to create a JSP off of this view object that contains both the employee and department information. In this case, BC4J takes care of the foreign key to primary key coordination.
    2. In order to set a dynamic where clause for a view, you need to do the following in your usebean tag:
    rsn.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"DeptView");
    rsn.getRowSet().getViewObject().setWhereClause("deptno=" &#0124; &#0124; m_DeptId);
    rsn.getRowSet().getViewObject().executeQuery();
    rsn.getRowSet().first();
    You will need to do this in a separate usebean tag from the EmpView, since the usebean can only initialize one view object.
    In other words, you would have your ViewCurrentRecord bean tag for the EmpView, then a separate one for the DeptView where you use the above code to set the where clause to display just the information for the department you want.
    Another option, but one I'm not sure would work as well, is to create a master-detail JSP to do this for you. Usually a master-detail is a one-to-many (one department to many employees). Your request appears to be the reverse, but might still be doable using the same mechanism.
    You set up relationships between views in your BC4J project using View Links. If you used the BC4J project wizard and created default views, some of these links may have been created for you. They are created when BC4J detects a foreign key to primary key relationship in the database.
    You can create your own View Links using the View Link wizard. Select your BC4J project node and choose Create View Link... from the context menu. You will be asked to select a source view (Emp), and a target view (Dept), then select the attribute in each view that related the two of them (deptno).
    Next, you need to reflect this new relationship setting in your application module. Select your app module and choose Edit from the context menu. On the data model page, select the EmpView node in the Selected list. Now select the DeptView node in the available list and shuttle it over. You should see DeptView1 via yourlink appear indented under the EmpView node. Save and rebuild your BC4J project to reflect the changes.
    In your JSP project, you can now have the wizard create a master-detail form for you based on DeptView1.
    Let me know if the above answers your question, or if I have misunderstood what it is you wanted to do.

  • LOV an SQL : how to configure a select list to get all records

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle 10g with APEX 2.0.
    Here is my question:
    I have a report and I am using 3 text fields and a select list to search through a join of two tables. The select list is composed of a "list of values" and the parameter, which is used in the SQL-sentence, has a numeric value.
    Result table after the join operation looks like this:
    Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 (By assuming the field3 is the one which used in the select list.)
    21a this 1000 bn
    21a that 1001 vb
    33c thus 1012 ct
    What I want to do is to set another parameter-value pair in the select list to let user choose the "ALL" of the mentioned items in the select list so that the search will return all the records without having taken this select list-field into consideration.
    Is it possible to do it with LOV and SQL? Do I need any other functions? or configurations?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sedef

    Hi user630478!
    I always use a select list with submit and the option to get a NULL-Value for such things. To solve your problem do the following things:
    1.) Create two named LOVs. One as you already did and another one for all values.
    2.) Your select list with submit should be configured to show a NULL-Value e. g. it shows ALL with the value 0.
    3.) Create two conditional branches that work together with your select list. One that show the normal results if a user has clicked on a normal value and the second should act only if a user has clicked on ALL.
    4.) Write a process that switches the LOVs in your select list from one to the other. This process should only be fired if the second conditional branch has been actived.
    Maybe if I understood right that's what you want to know.
    yours sincerely

  • How to dynamically set a bounded value for a VO at runtime

    Hi all,
    I am working on a custom page for time card summary, the VO's query like this:
    select Timecard_Id,.... from timecard_summary where supervisor_id = :1
    There is a utility that can retrieve supervisor_id from system, but I don't know how I can set this supervisor_id before the query is execute, I think I need a controller to do that right after user clicks "Go" button in simpleSearch Panel, but I cannot find the way to determine if the "Go" button in simpleSearch Panel is clicked.

    Hi Sumit,
    I had tried over riding the initquery and execute query to meet the same requirement but the where clause i was setting wasn being set since the execute query somehow was making it null.
    When i did hard code the whereclause params in the the executequery(),it worked fine but then i couldn have passed any variables.
    Then finally i went around the oaf guide and found something like ,
    dic[]=getcriteriaitems.... and it solved the purpose for me.
