  • How to enable WiFi transfer from Canon Legria HF M52 to iMac

My iMac is a late 2012 model with Mountain Lion (v. 10.8.3).
Recently I bought a Canon Legria HF M52 camcorder which is WiFi enabled, and is capable of transferring videos (AVCHD/MP4) wireless. The camera package included software for WiFi transfer on Windows PC, but not for Mac. However, still, according to the instruction manual, it should be possible to transfer files wireless to Mac using the Mac as a FTP server. Though, following the instruction manual, I`m still not being able to transfer files from my camera to my Mac.
    1. I know for a fact that the camera is correctly connected to the WiFi network, as I`ve managed to transfer files onto a friend´s Windows PC.
    2. Video files are easily transferred to Mac using the USB cable (but the CABLE is what I want to avoid), both AVCHD/MP4.
    3. Since Mountain Lion no longer has the option to enable/activate FTP server under "System Preferences/Sharing", I have enabled FTP via "Terminal" as described in this link; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4704.
    4. Camera setup:
         - Use iMac IP address as "FTP server", 192.xxx.x.x (dynamic IP, so it is changed in camera setup if IP address is changed upon iMac reboot).
         - Port 21 (as dictated by the camera`s instruction manual).
         - Username / password as for the iMac admin account.
         - Destination folder; /User/Movies
    5. I have verified connectivity from MBA to iMac connecting via IP address / username and password.
Still, when I try to transfer files from the camera, I get an error message while attempting to connect to the iMac; "An error occured during FTP communication. File transfer was not completed". Have made several attempts to reboot both iMac and camera.
Any tips on how to enable my iMac to receive video files wireless?

I guess those programs are intented for outgoing connections, not incoming connections?
Well, anyways, I managed to solve the problem. Just summing up in case others meet the same problem:
    - Went to Apple Store and bought/installed "OS X Server".
    - Followed the install wizard for the OS X Server.
    - Under "FTP" in OS X Server, turned "On".
    - Under sys prefs/sharing; make sure "Sharing" is activated (which already had been done in my case).
    - Add folder, e.g. "Movies", and enable "read/write" for "everybody" (already done in my case).
    - Back to the OS X Server; changed share to "Movies".
(you can change share options in OS X Server as well, the same way as under sys prefs.).
    - Now over to the Canon camcorder;
         - Use the IP address for the Mac as the FTP server. Port 21.
         - Set up username/password as for the Mac admin account (not sure if required though).
         - Target folder just set to "/" (files transferred directly to "Movies").
With this setup, both AVCHD/MP4 movies were transferred easily to my mac.

  • Satellite A660-11M - How to enable WiFi?

Hi. I have a Satellite A660-11M with key features
    -Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
    -Intel Core i7-720QM Processor
    Wifi:
    Compliancy : Wi-Fi
    Network Support : 802.11b/g/n
    Manufacturer : Broadcom
    Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN
    Manufacturer : Broadcom
    Wireless Technology : Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
It has been working fine but after the children were using the machine and shut it down I cannot see the Router using the wifi.
I tried the hardware switch on the media strip between the keyboard and the screen and none of the buttons respond; I suspect this may be the issue.
Fn F8 brings up the wifi fn display but clicking on it will not enable it. Trouble shooting informs me to "Turn on Wireless Capability" but as stated above, the media strip appears to be inactive. I can connect normally using the cable to the router.
I tried a System Restore but that didn't help.
So although I have a sinking feeling I am missing something obvious, any thoughts before I start reloading wifi driver and resetting BIOS? If that is the recommended approach, what driver controls the media strip
    Many thanks for any help.

Thanks for all your assistance... Got it sorted:
For anyone else with this model, *it was a hardware fault.*
You need to undo one of the screws on the underside of the laptop (I undid them all 8o() and gently lift up the keyboard fascia from the top (directly above the function buttons). Under here you will find a small ribbon cable from the media panel to the motherboard... this had come undone.
    Reconnected, rebooted, job's a good'un.

  • NB200 - How to enable WiFi on Windows 7?

    Hey,
I've just bought a brand new Toshiba NB200 netbook (10-Z).
When finished with the needed Win XP install, I installed the Windows 7 RC1, but the wifi is not working. The Fn+F8 Combination would start the wifi adapter, but the led in the outer side of the netbook is not blinking or anything, and system says, first I have to turn on the wifi, but I simply Can't, because the combination isn't working. I installed all the drivers, but still don't work.
Sorry for the bad english, i'm Hungarian.
    Thanks, B3N1

I installed seven directly, without even booting on the windows xp config shipped with the laptop
the wireless was off, there was no way to enable it, even after following all the advises before.
I had to reinstall XP on a second partition from the restore disc, and then the wireless was enabled, either on windows xp or seven... (but you could do the same thing from a standard xp install, you'll just have to install all the drivers)
Altough I cannot switch the wireless off with the fn+f8 combo (or i can go to the xp partition, switch it off, and go back to seven... lol)
I know seven was not officially supported and blah blah blah but it was really REALLY annoying, it was the first (and I hope the last) disappointment with the nb200. (PLL20C-00200C, canadian model)

    Any idea?

Did you download the broadcom driver module from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19514 ?

  • How to enable the "debug" flag in Linux (ubuntu)

    Hi,
I want the error message dialogs to pop up when I run an installed AIR application, running it normally, not with the ADL.
In Windows and Mac, I can accomplish this by creating an empty file or folder called "debug" inside the
    (application install folder)/META-INF/AIR
However, this doesn't work in Linux.
On linux, I read somewhere (cannot find it now) that you can do the same by typing:
    export AIRDEBUG=1
    in a terminal.
This works only if I launch the applications from the same terminal; that is, I have to open a terminal and write:
    export AIRDEBUG=1
    /opt/myapplication/bin/myapplication
In the same article that suggested this, it also suggested that you could add the "export AIRDEBUG=1" line to the .bashrc file so it would be automatically executed at startup.
However, it still only works if I launch the applications from a terminal. That is, I don't have to write "export AIRDEBUG=1" every time, but I still have to open a terminal and launch the application from the command line.
I want it to work also when I launch the application normally from the panel menu shortcut that was automatically created when installing the app.
    Any idea?
    thanks

The first time i turn on my personal hotspot, i chosen usb only, how can i re-enable wifi hotspot?

Yeah, I just noticed it   So does this mean I can't wake my S10 thru LAN right?  Anyway, do you have any suggestions?  I'm looking for a Docking Station, but I can't find any.   Can a USB replicator turn this on?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

  • It seems my Wifi on/off button has become disabled.  Any ideas as to how tom enable and turn on?

It seems my Wifi on/off button has become disabled on my IPhone 4S.  Any ideas as to how to enable it to turn on?

I been having the same problem with my iPhone 4S my iPhone its upgraded to the new version and my wifi does not want to turn on its dim gray I tried reseting it and pressing the home and the power button i have resset my network setting but its no help I don't know what else to do?

  • Is there a location aware wifi option (or app) that enables wifi at a specific location (home) and automatically disables it when you are away from the specified location?

I manually turn off my wifi when leaving home for several reasons:
    1. I don't want my wifi to be on and constantly scanning wifi networks while I am away from home due to privacy reasons.  Many retail stores and airports are now tracking users based on their smartphone's wifi pings.  They can then store your phone's MAC address (the unique identifier of your phone) to determine how often you visit the store and where you go within the store.  It's just a matter of time before they match up your phone's MAC address with your credit card/payment info and then to your identity.  The only way to subvert this is to turn off your phone's wifi.
    2. For security reasons: Wifi access points can track devices that broadcast their wifi signal, even if they don't ever actually connect to the access point's network.  These access points can then store your device's details including your phone's MAC address.  Once your phone's MAC address is discovered, it can be targeted by a hacker.  In addition, there are multiple well known hacker tools that can be used to scan for smartphone wifi signals in order to detect and then hack your iphone.  Bottom line: if your wifi is discoverable, then your device is hackable.
    3. I believe it would save battery life if the iphone's wifi is not on and constantly scanning for networks all the time.
There are other reasons as well, but the above are my 3 main reasons for asking about this.
The reminders app is location aware - you can set reminders to alert you when you are at a specific location.  So, why not provide the option (or an app) to only enable wifi when you are at home - or any other location where you have an authorized or trusted wifi?
As it is right now, the iphone's wifi is broadcasting 24/7 everywhere you go.  Not great for privacy & security.  When I turn off my wifi, the phone uses my 4G plan for data and GPS for location services... so wifi is not needed at all for data or location services while I am away from home (and no, wifi does not improve location accuracy, that is a fallacy... there is nothing within the wifi protocol that could ever improve location accuracy).  But the point is, wifi should have a location aware option.  Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before there is a headline story about how not having this feature is a huge security/privacy problem.

Understood.  However, the point that I'm trying to make is that it's not the WiFi access point's security that's in question, it's having your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode that's in question.  It's simple: if your phone's WiFi is on, then it is both discoverable and hackable... even when it's not connected to a WiFi network or access point.  Here's an article about a drone in London that was created to hack smartphone WiFi signals (and hackers have been doing what this drone does for years):
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/20/technology/security/drone-phone/
The point is that it's not  secure to have your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode.  It would be better for privacy and security if Apple made WiFi location aware so that it is only enabled when you are at a trusted location (e.g. your home or office).  Or, at least give us the option of location aware WiFi so that each user can determine the best mode for their phone:
    (1) Always-On (current default - not secure and many privacy issues).
    (2) Trusted mode (only on at trusted locations).
    (3) Off.

  • How to enable ToDo in Mail

I have two mail accounts, one POP account, and MobileMe. The ToDo feature appears to be disabled on the POP account. The commands are gray on that account. However, when I choose an email from MobileMe I can select text and create a new ToDo item. I can't find any information on how to enable that feature if it's disabled.
My wife has the same sort of POP account on her Mac and everything seems to work fine.
    Thanks.

For ToDos to be available to an account, the account must be tied to a calendar server. ToDos are not part of Mail but part of iCal. You can create a ToDo by selecting some text in an email and right-clicking to get the contextual menu.

  • How to enable WPS on Westell 327W

it doesn't support WPS?  Why does it say it does in the product specs?  That I looked into several times and my understanding was that it did and I just had to go into the router to enable it.
I am not sure where the "command prompt" screen is.  Is it when I log into http://192.168.1.1?
I am trying to get my direct TV wirelessly linked to the internet using the adapter.
When you go to 192.168.1.1 do you see a blue-and-white web page, or do you see a red-and-black web page?
If you see a blue-and-white web page, then the 327W is running the original firmware that came from Westell.  If you see a red-and-black web page, then the 327W is running the newer firmware that Verizon made available a few years ago.
There are some wireless devices that will not work when communicating with the blue-and-white firmware.  I had a 327W and a Sony blu-ray player that would not talk to each other no way no how, until I downloaded and installed the red-and-black firmware.  Then the routine set-up worked.  There are other wireless devices that communicate just fine with a 327W, no matter which version of the firmware it's running.
I can't tell you whether you need to update the firmware in the 327W or not, but I hope the above helps.
About six months after I updated the 327W firmware, the 327W bit the dust.  I ended up getting a newer 7500 from Verizon, for less than $3.00 a month.
If it were up to me, I would call verizon and ask them if the can replace the old 327W with a 6100G or a 7500, depending on my needs.  Failing in that, I would go down to a store and buy a server end wireless adaptor that plugs into the 327W, and set one of the two devices to bridge mode.  I've never done that, so I'll let others tell you how.  I don't like that solution, because it involves one more box.  I like to keep things as simple as possible, but not simpler than that.
Once you have working hardware and firmware, setting up the wireless service is fairly intuitive, provided you understand the basics of what is going on.  The complexities come into play when you try to set your configuration to make your wireless network somewhat secure.  Depending on your location, this may be necessary to keep people from accessing your local files via a wirless LAN connection.
If I can find it, I'll try to get back to you with the location of a website that explains how to use the interface you get to when you go to 192.168.1.1.  By the way, if you go to http://dslrouter you should get to the same screen.  I find that easier to remember than the numbers.

  • Apple please provide way to disable Edge but enable WiFi

I am planning a trip outside the US. I have read the posts about people who spend a week abroad and come back to an outrageous AT&T bill because of the international Edge usage charges (sometimes even incidental). I called AT&T and yes they have an international data plan but for a 1 week trip I would have to pay $25/month for a year or pay a huge cancellation fee. Another attempt to gouge their customers. So that is not an option. How can I use the wireless on my phone without using edge?? Airplane mode turns off both. There is no way to enable only wifi. How can I do something as simple as check for messages without edge? How can I safely use just wifi at the hotel or other hotspots? I don't want to have to leave my phone in airplane mode for a week but until apple provides a way to disable edge while enabling wifi I most likely will have to.

    take paperclip...
    unfold paperclip...
insert paperclip into small hole next to headphone jack...
    eject sim card...
remove sim card and place in safe spot...
    return metal tray to phone...
enjoy using wifi & iPod features of phone...
reverse process to re-enable phone & edge

  • Need to enable wifi sync without cable

I am unable to connect my iPod to a computer and therefore need to enable the wifi sync without connecting it. Is this possible? If so, how do I do it?

Sorry.  To enable WiFi synch you have to connect to the computer you synch to.  If you do not have a comuter to connect to, then you also do not have a comuter to synch to, so its really a non-issue.

    Hi samer almasri,
If you are having issues with enabling Wifi on your iPhone you may want to try a couple of things to troubleshoot. First of all I would quit all open applications on the phone and try again. See this previous thread for how -

Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
