How to fresh install ARD Admin on Mavericks?

I'm upgrading our OSX server at the moment. I have a physical disk with ARD Admin (v 3.3) on it with a full unlimited user license key.
My old server that is being decommissioned is 10.6
If I try and download the latest ARD Admin update from apple downloads I only get an update - so it goes looking for an install of ARD Admin.
If I try and install from the physical disk I have then it says I must have OSX 10.6 in order to install.
Surely I should be able to download a full version of ARD admin that will work on 10.9 and then I can apply my existing license key and update it?
Any suggestions on how to do this?
Kind regards
Andrew

i've not tested the above in 10.9 but can't really see why it should not work? ARD Admin update for 10.9 is here:

Great.  If Time Machine, then enter Time Machine and Restore iPhoto, otherwise, copy Applications/iPhoto to your Mac

  • How to download / install ARD 3.7.2 for Yosemite?

I was running Yosemite Beta. I had 10.10 beta 6 installed on my MacPro tower (aka the shiny black trashcan). Downloaded and installed the 10.10 final version, and all appeared well. ARD was - and is - working. To be clear : ARD Admin 3.7.2 (372a19) was already installed and working before upgrading to 10.10 final.
Software update now bugs me that I have a few updates to do, so I thought no biggie : download and install them via Update All. Partway through the process the following error message pops up in the Software Update window of the App Store :
"We could not complete your purchase.
Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
Oooook. I have already purchased ARD. I am already in Software Update. It should be trying to run an update only. So I tried quitting out of Software Update completely, and re-starting the whole software update process over (via the GUI). Same result. So off to the command line we go...
    softwareupdate -l
    Finding available software
    No new software available.
    W.T.H?!?
Ok, delete the com.apple.Softwareupdate.plist. Check again. Same result. Ok... crack open the .plist and here is the URL generated by the OS replacing the file I deleted : https://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-10.10beta-10.10-10.9-moun tainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged…
According to what I know of the default URL on SU, that's looking correct to me. So at this point I am officially stumped. It would appear the problem is on Apple's end, as I cannot find anything on this end which would account for that behavior. It's really weirding me out that the command line says there are no updates available, while the GUI says there is. If anyone can toss me a bone, it would be appreciated very, very much.

Here is the fix for ARD showing in the App store and not letting you update.
    1. Download the 3.7.2 ARD update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1733
    2. Mount the ARD disk image that downloads.
    3. Run the following commands in the Terminal
          sudo pkgutil --expand /Volumes/Apple\ Remote\ Desktop\ 3.7.2\ Admin\ Update/RemoteDesktopAdmin372.pkg ~/Desktop/ARD
          sudo pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/ARD/RemoteDesktopAdmin372.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg
    4. Run the RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg now located on your Desktop
    5. Restart your Mac
    6. Launch ARD, and enter in the serial number if requested.

  • Where to install ARD Admin?

Here at my college we purchased a G4 Xserve and Apple Remote Desktop. The server will be tied in to a Windows Active Directory for authentication and our distribution install packages for the Macs will be kept on the server. My questions to everyone are; Where should the ARD Admin application be installed? Should it be installed on the Xserver or on another computer? What would be the pros and cons of keeping it on the server? Pros and cons of keeping it on another Macintosh computer and connecting to the server to distribute packages? Is there any supporting documentation for each?
I'm looking for as much information as possible in regards to this. Thank you in advance.

Where should the ARD Admin application be installed? Should it be installed on the Xserver or on another computer?
The Admin app must be installed on the workstation from which you intend to run it. I never consider it good practice to try and run applications from any server, so I'd recommend having an administrator station, but it will work from the server (presuming, of course, that your Xserve has a monitor, keyboard and mouse).
Pros and cons of keeping it on another Macintosh computer and connecting to the server to distribute packages?
Packages will be pushed from the Admin workstation, but it really doesn't matter where you store the packages. You could store the packages on the server if you wished, but there's no particular advantage to doing that other than having a single central location for them.
If you're trying to control what updates your workstations get and when, a more robust method might be to use the Software Update Server feature of Mac OS X 10.4 Server. That would allow you to set your workstations to get their updates from your local server, not from Apple, and therefore give you more control over what updates are applies. You can then set the workstations either to check automatically (and activate the updates on the server as you want them going out), or set the workstations not to update automatically and use ARD (through the Send UNIX Command function) to command your workstation to update when you want them to.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to fresh install Xcelsius 2008 SP4 on Win7/Office2010

How do I do a fresh install of Xcelsius 2008 and get up to SP4 if I am unable to do an install of Xcelsius 2008 on Win7/Office2010 in the first place?

    Hi Chris
You can install Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 4 without having a previous version of Xcelsius 2008 installed because each Service Pack is a full install (or it can be used to upgrade from a previous Service Pack).
So download and install SP4 which supports Office 2010 (32-bit) and Windows 7.

  • Toshiba Satelite A215 s4807 How-To Fresh Install Windows

I am trying to fix a Toshiba Laptop for a friend  of mine.
How do I go about reinstalling windows from a fresh install.  Reading the Manuel I can either hit 0 while the computer is booting, or Under Start Menu there is a Create Recovery CD option.  Neither is working for me.  How do I go about reinstalling windows if the two methods seem to not be available?

If one doesn't take the time to create the Recovery Disks they have no one to blame but themselves when this happens.  On those rare occasions that the recovery system doesn't work right out of the box Toshiba has always sent out the disks free of charge.  It's only when someone waits months to make them and finds out it doesn't work that they don't provide them for free.  It isn't Toshiba that does this either.  This is an industry wide policy with some being worse than others.  A neighbor purchased a brand new Gateway recently.  They tried to make the recovery disks the day they took it home and were unsuccessful.  Gateway wanted to charge them $49.95 for them so they took the computer back and exchanged it for a Dell and had no problems creating the disks.
And the reason they don't make the disks available for download is partly due to Microsoft and the rest being bandwidth.  If people knew they could just download the disks (most laptops have 3 or 4 dvd's worth of recovery disks) they would never take care of the ones they have and Toshiba would go broke paying for the excessive bandwidth of people downloading 12 to 16gigs worth of recovery images because they were too lazy to create them from the images that came on their hard drive.
Sorry, but you will NEVER win this arguement.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How to fresh-install W8.1 on a VM (on Linux) without OEM disks and having product key programmed in UEFI?

I have an ASUS A55 that came with W8 preinstalled (OEM without disks), now upgraded to W8.1. My laptop was a present for me and came from Germany, so I do not have access to the original ASUS retailer (nor any other else, BTW, due to my present location).
Due to my job I am now obliged to have Linux as my base OS, but I am allowed to keep one W8.1 running within VirtualBox (for instance, for when my daughter comes to visit me).
How do I do a fresh install of W8 and keep my purchased license, given that I do not have the disks?
Also, is there a way to access the product key programmed in the UEFI?
    Thanks

    Before the install
Ensure your data (at least all Home folders) is backed up before you install. Hard disks can fail at any time so it is important to regularly backup to an external disk with Time Machine or a third party alternative. Inexperienced users should follow Apple's install advice but experienced users may prefer to do a clean install.

    Upgrade to Leopard
Those wishing to upgrade to Leopard should be aware that install disks can be expensive. Details: http://lowendmac.com/deals/best-os-x-leopard-prices.html Standard Leopard installers impose several hardware limitations including speed and RAM size but all these restrictions can be overcome. Google for details. Leopard works well at 500 MHz with 1 GB of RAM and many happy users have less than this.
    Upgrade beyond Leopard
OSs beyond OS X 10.5.8 require an Intel processor. If in doubt click the apple at the top left of your screen and select 'About this Mac'. This will give you your OS number. Then click 'More Info' to see which processor you have. If it says PowerPC you cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard and above. If you have an Intel Mac it is well worth upgrading to Snow Leopard now and then considering other options after that. You can buy Snow Leopard here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A

  • How to fresh install iOS on 1st gen iPad?

I'm being "gifted" a couple dead 1st gen iPads.  Both have dead batteries and supposedly no OS.  Included will be new batteries.  I'm sure I can swap batteries (YouTube has a video for everything).  I just d/l'ed iOS 5.0.  I've never dealt with Apple before (I'm a Linux guy...shrug) so I don't know jack about this.
How can I install iOS 5.0 on my "new" iPads?  I'm planning on using one for myself and giving one to a local, home schooling family that can't afford a "toy" like this (even if this "toy" would make a good learning base).
Do I just plug the iPad into the computer and hit a few keys on the iPad screen?  Or is there more to it?
Thanks for all your help.  I've installed Windows and Linux OSs via both USB (thumb) drive and CD to a computer and Android OSs via both BT and USB cable (to/from my computer).  I'm not a complete computer noob but know enough to break things pretty well.
    Thanks in advance!!

Just this much of your post indicates you are starting down a path that is going to be loaded with problems.  I suggest you throw this download away, and start down a brand new path.
Apple software goes through checks and balances to make sure the latest software for that version of hardware is what gets installed.  Your best approach, if you somehow successfully installed new batteries, is to install the current iTunes version on your computer (11.1.5), and then plug your iPad into iTunes using the USB cable that was supplied with the iPad when it first was shipped by Apple.  iTunes on your computer should detect the iPad, and hopefully proceed with the approprate setup.

  • How do I install Windows 7 on Mavericks?

I tried using boot camp but it doesn't work .

OK... your machine originally came with Mountain Lion, which means it was on the recovery partition. It's been overwritten now by the Mavericks recovery partition. In Mountain Lion, you could have installed your 32 bit Win 7 to a Bootcamp partition. The upgrade to Mavericks wouldn't affect it the Bootcamp partition. Now you don't have a way to install Mavericks to another drive though. The only thing you could try to do is to download Bootcamp 4 and the win 7 32 bit drivers for your machine. That should work.

Keep in mind that the Windows partition is going to eat up some of your SSD space, so you might want to see how much space you have before you start this project.
I always hate putting Windows on a Mac. I feel like I'm defacing the Mona Lisa or something..

  • How to (freshly) install Lion on a headless Xserve

    Dear all,
I'm writing here as I'd need some help on how to install Lion on a headless Xserve.
The Xserve has a static IP address, a DNS name and it is able to connect to the Internet. In order to install the OS on it I booted the machine from a self-made Lion DVD (connecting a keyboard and keeping the 'c' key pressed during the boot) and took remote control over it through another computer - on the same subnetwork - running ARD. So far, so good. The server can be pinged, ssh-ed, and the remote control via ARD works fine (blank username and the server serial number as password). I managed to erase the HD (which, of course, was previously backed up) and to launch the Lion installation. The installation seemed to go alright, until, at the end of it, ARD disconnected (I guess that happened because the installer forces a reboot at that stage). From that point onwards I'm not able to do anything else on the server. The machine can still be pinged, but no ports appear to be open. I can't therefore SSH the server and I can't access it through ARD or any alternative VNC client.
I've repeated the entire procedure twice, ending up with the very same results. My feeling is that the installation is waiting for some input by me (maybe it is stuck at the "select language/keyboard layout" stage?), but I don't know how to provide it. Of course I may be wrong and the problem being something completely different.
Please consider that the target machine doesn't have any graphics card installed at all, thus the option of connecting a monitor to it has to be excluded.
Would be absolutely lovely if someone could give me a hint!
PS: apologies for the cross-posting. I originally posted this message in the general Mac OS X 10.7 section, before realising it would have been more appropriate here.
    Cheers,
    Fabio

Thanks for your reply, Strontium. Unfortunately I'm quite confident about that Xserve not having any graphics facility. I manage 4 Xserve machine for my lab and, when we ordered them, I remember that we specifically asked for having graphics cards installed on only two of them. The other 2 servers (those, supposedly, headless) came with their DisplayPort closed by a plastic cap. To be fair I've never tried to plug anything on them but I would be EXTREMELY surprised (and feel amazingly stupid) in case something appears on a monitor (despite Wikipedia which seems to back your thought)!

  • How to re install Snow Leopard with Mavericks running?

    Hello,
Not long after it was introduced I upgraded my Macbookpro from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
(Apart from that it also has a Bootcamp partition with MS Windows 7)
But Compared to any other Mac around me, mine has been extremely slow and the Mavericks upgrade did not solve that.
It has Microsoft Office for Mac and Mackeeper and I suspect either of those could have something to do with it.
To see if that helps I want to do a complete reinstall of the OS X.
I already made a full backup of both the Mac and the Bootcamp side.
But when I load the original Snow Leopard install DVD it says it can't do the install because it there is a later version (being Mavericks) running.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Sander

Thanks a lot for your quick responses.
I was able to do what Mende proposed and have also removed Mackeeper.
I don't know what the cause was but the Mac appears to be back to it's normal speed now.
However, stragely enough, when I start up using the option key to choose between the MacHD and Windows partition, I suddenly have three partitions to choose from.
Mac HD, Windows and a new one called Recovery which of course I would like to get rid of without damaging anything.
Do you know how to do that safely?
    Thanks again

  • I have aperture 3 on Disc how do i install on MBP (OSx Mavericks)

Hi all, I have downloaded a trial version and started by putting in my Serial number frm origional disc.....all this worked fine, however now it wont open because apeture 3 is not compatable with OSx mav, the app is not on the desktop and is greyed out in the application list.
    please advise
    Regards Philip

    Philip,
if you are running Mavericks you first have to update Aperture to version 3.5.
You should see the update at the AppStore in the Updates pane.
If it is not showing, try to update first by running Software update from the -menu in the upper left corner of your main menu bar.  If no updates are shown, download the last update from the support page:
    Aperture 3.4.5
and install that. Then try update again at the App Store.
For the update to show at the AppStore, you must be signed in with your AppleID and Aperture must be installed in the Applications folder and simply called "Aperture", not "Aperture Trial" or something.

  • How do I install iMovie 11 on Mavericks?

I have a new, late model iMac, which is a great machine, but the new iMovie 10 does not have chapter markers. I would like to install iMovie 11(which does have chapter markers)  in a folder within the appications folder. When I try to install the program, however, iMovie is grayed out and I can not install it. Is there a way to install it on an iMac running Mavericks?

Pacifist worked great! It is shareware, and the author requests a 20.00 donation. I was able to use Pacifist to extract iMovie 11 (version 9.0) from my old iLife disc and install it to a folder that I created in my applications. I opened iMovie and it works perfectly, but I of course tried to run update, and was able to download iMovie 9.0.9 (the latest update), but it would not install. I got an error message saying, "You already have the lateset version of iMovie installed."(iMovie 10 (version 13)) Needless to say I just turned back to Pacifist and extracted the .pkg into the same iMovie folder I created. I was able to open the updated iMovie 9.0.9 and then just dropped the "old" 9.0 into the trash. Thanks for the great tip.
