How to generate unique IDs for a metadata field

Hi,
We have a requirement to generate a unique ID for a metadata field. Does anybody know how this can be achieved? Ideally I would want to have a database sequence and specify the metadata field to get value from this database sequence, similar to how Content ID is generated.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Tim

Look into the Counters table. You should be able to create a component install filter to add in your field to the Counters table.
You could then create some Java code to fetch the next value from the Counters database for your field (and increment the value).

    Hello,
    I want to generate differents ids for panel box from an iterator because the drag and drop functionality doesn't work. I saw that the component ids doesn't support EL.

  • How to maintain change history for a custom field

    Hi All,
    I have added a new custom field in standard table FKKVKP by appending a new structure to FKKVKP. Now this custom field will appear in transaction CAA2. My requirement is I have to maintain change history for my custom field. In transaction SCDO I have seen that there is an object MKK_VKONT that maintains change history for FKKVKP entries. But I am not aware how to adjust this field so that SAP generates change history for my custom field as well.
    Thanks in advance,
    Venkat

    Venkatesh,
    DFKKTAXEX
    FKKVK
    FKKVKP
    FKKVK_CORR
    I have never used these tables but I have working experience with change docs.
    The Z field which you have added should be in the above structures, then you should be able to see that field in the changes.
    Of course change document should be set to that field-data element.

  • In VB Programming code -- How to access the formula for suppressing a field

    In VB Programming code -- How to access the formula for suppressing a field
    I am using Crystal Reports 2008 v1
    Using VB code, I am attempting to modify a Crystal Report before exporting it into a PDF format and then displaying it on the Web.
    My problem is that I am unable to access the formula used to dynamically suppress a field.
    The following code is working:
    mySections = rd.ReportDefinition.Sections
    For Each mySection As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Section In mySections
       ' myFieldToChange is a String set to the text of the field I need to adjust the Suppression
       iloop = 0
       For Each RecObj As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportObject In mySection.ReportObjects
               If mySection.ReportObjects.Item(iloop).Name.ToLower = myFieldToChange Then
                   myTextObject = CType(mySection.ReportObjects.Item(iloop), CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.TextObject)
                   myTextObject.Text = "new field text goes here"
                   mySection.SectionFormat.EnableSuppress = True
                   '  Here is where I want to change the formula for the Suppression
                End if
                iloop = iloop + 1
        Next
    Next
    I can not find any reference to the actual suppression formula in the SDK help file.
    Note, the EnableSuppress can be set to True for False, but if there is a formula for dynamic suppression, the True or False value is overwritten.  The results of the formula determine the suppression.
    Is there a way to reference this formula.  I know that I can put on in using the Crystal Report Designer software, I need to modify this formula using VB code and the SDK.

    Hello, Mark;
    If you are using the ReportDocument object you do not have access to the Conditional Suppression formula. You can get around it by using a formula field in the report for the supression and then using the FormulaField code to change it at runtime.
    If you want to change the supression condition directly at runtime you need to use RAS and the ReportClientDocument.

  • Editing Autofill List for Custom Metadata Fields

    I have 13,000+ photographs cataloged in Aperture 2.1 In an effort to better manage these photographs, I have added custom metadata for my own use. The fields let me know whether I have printed for my portfolio, watermarked, added to my web site, status of release, etc. All of this data is manually entered and at times my fingers don't always hit the correct keys on the keyboard so I end up with autofill data that is incorrect. I have been unable to find a way to edit the autofill data for custom metadata fields. Selecting 'Edit Autofill List' does not give me access to my custom field autofill information. Am I missing something? Is this an oversight on my part or on the part of the application?

    Unfortunately I'm not using presets to do this. I don't think presets will help me with this, but it could be just that I don't understand presets that well. I use presets for entering Metadata from a shoot as I 'import' the raw files into Aperture. Maybe I'm trying to do something that Aperture was never intended to do, yet I need to have as few locations where I track
    As an example, as I print a photograph for my portfolio I mark one of the custom fields labelled 'Printed' as 'Yes'. Later I can locate those 4 or 5 star photographs that haven't been printed and decide if I want to print them. I use the same type of arrangement for my website with an 'Added to web' indicator as 'Yes'. I may also mark that 'Printed' field as 'N/A'. The reason follows. For watermarking photographs before adding them to my site via iWeb, I export and the photographs and then reimport the watermarked photographs into a separate project but since these photographs are at a lower resolution, have a different color profile and are jpegs, I never print them for my portfolio so I mark them 'N/A' in the 'Printed' field. Well my fingers do slip on the keys and before I realize it the nifty autofill now requires that I type not just the 'N' to get an 'N/A', but I must type it all, because one time I typed 'N and a space' or some such and that is what autofills. It even happens with 'Yes'. I suppose the real answer is to be more careful as I type, but that is not my reality.
    So, all I'm looking for is a way to have access to the autofill list that is created for my custom metadata fields so that I can delete the erroneous autofill entry. I've thought about deleting the field entirely and recreating it, but that would remove all those indicators or flags that I have already entered for my photographs.
    Alternatively I could find an IPTC field that I am not using and find a way to use it, (because those fields have autofill lists that can be edited). However my record keeping would be exported with the photograph. Some of the information that I collect is private and should not be included in the metadata while other information should be; that is why I've settled on custom metadata fields.
    I hope there is a simple answer to this that I'm overlooking.
    If someone else has another way of tracking this same information that is better than the custom metadata fields, I would like to hear about it. However, it would mean reworking all my photographs that Aperture currently manages.

  • How to generate test data for all the tables in oracle

    I am planning to use plsql to generate the test data in all the tables in schema, schema name is given as input parameters, min records in master table, min records in child table. data should be consistent in the columns which are used for constraints i.e. using same column value..
    planning to implement something like
    execute sp_schema_data_gen (schemaname, minrecinmstrtbl, minrecsforchildtable);
    schemaname = owner,
    minrecinmstrtbl= minimum records to insert into each parent table,
    minrecsforchildtable = minimum records to enter into each child table of a each master table;
    all_tables where owner= schemaname;
    all_tab_columns and all_constrains - where owner =schemaname;
    using dbms_random pkg.
    is anyone have better idea to do this.. is this functionality already there in oracle db?

    Ah, damorgan, data, test data, metadata and table-driven processes. Love the stuff!
    There are two approaches you can take with this. I'll mention both and then ask which
    one you think you would find most useful for your requirements.
    One approach I would call the generic bottom-up approach which is the one I think you
    are referring to.
    This system is a generic test data generator. It isn't designed to generate data for any
    particular existing table or application but is the general case solution.
    Building on damorgan's advice define the basic hierarchy: table collection, tables, data; so start at the data level.
    1. Identify/document the data types that you need to support. Start small (NUMBER, VARCHAR2, DATE) and add as you go along
    2. For each data type identify the functionality and attributes that you need. For instance for VARCHAR2
    a. min length - the minimum length to generate
    b. max length - the maximum length
    c. prefix - a prefix for the generated data; e.g. for an address field you might want a 'add1' prefix
    d. suffix - a suffix for the generated data; see prefix
    e. whether to generate NULLs
    3. For NUMBER you will probably want at least precision and scale but might want minimum and maximum values or even min/max precision,
    min/max scale.
    4. store the attribute combinations in Oracle tables
    5. build functionality for each data type that can create the range and type of data that you need. These functions should take parameters that can be used to control the attributes and the amount of data generated.
    6. At the table level you will need business rules that control how the different columns of the table relate to each other. For example, for ADDRESS information your business rule might be that ADDRESS1, CITY, STATE, ZIP are required and ADDRESS2 is optional.
    7. Add table-level processes, driven by the saved metadata, that can generate data at the record level by leveraging the data type functionality you have built previously.
    8. Then add the metadata, business rules and functionality to control the TABLE-TO-TABLE relationships; that is, the data model. You need the same DETPNO values in the SCOTT.EMP table that exist in the SCOTT.DEPT table.
    The second approach I have used more often. I would it call the top-down approach and I use
    it when test data is needed for an existing system. The main use case here is to avoid
    having to copy production data to QA, TEST or DEV environments.
    QA people want to test with data that they are familiar with: names, companies, code values.
    I've found they aren't often fond of random character strings for names of things.
    The second approach I use for mature systems where there is already plenty of data to choose from.
    It involves selecting subsets of data from each of the existing tables and saving that data in a
    set of test tables. This data can then be used for regression testing and for automated unit testing of
    existing functionality and functionality that is being developed.
    QA can use data they are already familiar with and can test the application (GUI?) interface on that
    data to see if they get the expected changes.
    For each table to be tested (e.g. DEPT) I create two test system tables. A BEFORE table and an EXPECTED table.
    1. DEPT_TEST_BEFORE
         This table has all EMP table columns and a TEST_CASE column.
         It holds EMP-image rows for each test case that show the row as it should look BEFORE the
         test for that test case is performed.
         CREATE TABLE DEPT_TEST_BEFORE
         TESTCASE NUMBER,
         DEPTNO NUMBER(2),
         DNAME VARCHAR2(14 BYTE),
         LOC VARCHAR2(13 BYTE)
    2. DEPT_TEST_EXPECTED
         This table also has all EMP table columns and a TEST_CASE column.
         It holds EMP-image rows for each test case that show the row as it should look AFTER the
         test for that test case is performed.
    Each of these tables are a mirror image of the actual application table with one new column
    added that contains a value representing the TESTCASE_NUMBER.
    To create test case #3 identify or create the DEPT records you want to use for test case #3.
    Insert these records into DEPT_TEST_BEFORE:
         INSERT INTO DEPT_TEST_BEFORE
         SELECT 3, D.* FROM DEPT D where DEPNO = 20
    Insert records for test case #3 into DEPT_TEST_EXPECTED that show the rows as they should
    look after test #3 is run. For example, if test #3 creates one new record add all the
    records fro the BEFORE data set and add a new one for the new record.
    When you want to run TESTCASE_ONE the process is basically (ignore for this illustration that
    there is a foreign key betwee DEPT and EMP):
    1. delete the records from SCOTT.DEPT that correspond to test case #3 DEPT records.
              DELETE FROM DEPT
              WHERE DEPTNO IN (SELECT DEPTNO FROM DEPT_TEST_BEFORE WHERE TESTCASE = 3);
    2. insert the test data set records for SCOTT.DEPT for test case #3.
              INSERT INTO DEPT
              SELECT DEPTNO, DNAME, LOC FROM DEPT_TEST_BEFORE WHERE TESTCASE = 3;
    3 perform the test.
    4. compare the actual results with the expected results.
         This is done by a function that compares the records in DEPT with the records
         in DEPT_TEST_EXPECTED for test #3.
         I usually store these results in yet another table or just report them out.
    5. Report out the differences.
    This second approach uses data the users (QA) are already familiar with, is scaleable and
    is easy to add new data that meets business requirements.
    It is also easy to automatically generate the necessary tables and test setup/breakdown
    using a table-driven metadata approach. Adding a new test table is as easy as calling
    a stored procedure; the procedure can generate the DDL or create the actual tables needed
    for the BEFORE and AFTER snapshots.
    The main disadvantage is that existing data will almost never cover the corner cases.
    But you can add data for these. By corner cases I mean data that defines the limits
    for a data type: a VARCHAR2(30) name field should have at least one test record that
    has a name that is 30 characters long.
    Which of these approaches makes the most sense for you?

  • How to generate unique values while initializing values

    I am initializing values in my pl/sql program and want to use a sequence to set my unique ids but it errors out. Below is what I use.
    ie. table_id := table_seq.nextval;
    How can I use my sequence to initialize values or is this possible?

    The method suggested by user605919 will work. However, you don't need to initialize a variable like this. It is better and more performant to do it like the third example below:

  • How to generate unique filenames??

    i need to be able to generate unique files from a servlet..
    my initial instinct was to use the seesion id as part of the filename, however as this file will be embedded in the responding html, this is not safe, as the user will only have to look at the html source to view a session id value.
    i am now considering to use the date/time of the creation of a session as the unique identifier for the file, however this will not work if two sessions can be created at the same time.
    my question thefore is if no two sessions can have the same date and time?
    if not.. can anyone give me an idea as how to produce unique filenames?

    If you are actually creating a file, why not usethe
    java.io.File.createTempFile() method?how does that help with prducing a unique value to use
    as the name of a file?
    with that method i still need to supply the filename
    as one of its arguments!
    No you don't. You provide a prefix and suffix and it fills in the middle with something guaranteed to be unique, in the directory you specify. Here is the javadoc:
    createTempFile
    public static File createTempFile(String prefix,
    String suffix,
    File directory)
    throws IOException
    Creates a new empty file in the specified directory, using the given prefix and suffix strings to generate its name. If this method returns successfully then it is guaranteed that:
    1. The file denoted by the returned abstract pathname did not exist before this method was invoked, and
    2. Neither this method nor any of its variants will return the same abstract pathname again in the current invocation of the virtual machine.
    This method provides only part of a temporary-file facility. To arrange for a file created by this method to be deleted automatically, use the deleteOnExit() method.
    The prefix argument must be at least three characters long. It is recommended that the prefix be a short, meaningful string such as "hjb" or "mail". The suffix argument may be null, in which case the suffix ".tmp" will be used.
    To create the new file, the prefix and the suffix may first be adjusted to fit the limitations of the underlying platform. If the prefix is too long then it will be truncated, but its first three characters will always be preserved. If the suffix is too long then it too will be truncated, but if it begins with a period character ('.') then the period and the first three characters following it will always be preserved. Once these adjustments have been made the name of the new file will be generated by concatenating the prefix, five or more internally-generated characters, and the suffix.
    If the directory argument is null then the system-dependent default temporary-file directory will be used. The default temporary-file directory is specified by the system property java.io.tmpdir. On UNIX systems the default value of this property is typically "/tmp" or "/var/tmp"; on Microsoft Windows systems it is typically "c:\\temp". A different value may be given to this system property when the Java virtual machine is invoked, but programmatic changes to this property are not guaranteed to have any effect upon the the temporary directory used by this method.
    Parameters:
    prefix - The prefix string to be used in generating the file's name; must be at least three characters long
    suffix - The suffix string to be used in generating the file's name; may be null, in which case the suffix ".tmp" will be used
    directory - The directory in which the file is to be created, or null if the default temporary-file directory is to be used
    Returns:
    An abstract pathname denoting a newly-created empty file
    Throws:
    IllegalArgumentException - If the prefix argument contains fewer than three characters
    IOException - If a file could not be created
    SecurityException - If a security manager exists and its SecurityManager.checkWrite(java.lang.String) method does not allow a file to be created
    Since:

  • How to generate unique numbers

    hi all,
    I want to generate unique numbers always starting from 1 using a single sql query and I dont want to use a sequence and i dont think rownum will be helpful for generating unique numbers in all cases . how to do this ?
    thanks & regards,
    kumar.

    If two users get the MAX from temp, they would be updating with the same value for two different rows.If TEMP is a genuine temporary table, this is not an issue, because the data in a temporary table is only visible within a session.
    The big problem with this approach is the mutating table one: we cannot issue the requisite select statement from a BEFORE INSERT trigger. So this solution is only going to work with a view and an INSTEAD OF INSERT trigger.
    Another, more workable, solution is to use a code control table. This can be (should be) another temporary table, with one row holding one column - next value for TEMP.ID. Normally we would rule out such a solution because it serializes access to the inserted table, but as this is only on a per session basis, it doesn't matter.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER tmp_bir BEFORE INSERT ON temp1 FOR EACH ROW
    DECLARE
      ln NUMBER;
    BEGIN
      SELECT nvl(code1.next_id,1) INTO ln
      FROM code1;
      :NEW.id := ln;
      UPDATE code1
      SET    next_id := ln+1;
    END;Beware: coded freehand, so may need debugging.

  • How to get Unique calid for users with same name in multiple domain env..

    I found we need to use "-k legacy" option for creating users in non-hosted setup..
    I had two domains default as xxxx.com and the one that I created as yyyy.com
    When I have users with same name in two of the domains as user1..
    The calid for both of them is... user1 ....so they share the same calendar
    When Im in valid SSO of yyyy.com I get the mail account for user1 as [email protected] .....but the calid .. common as user1
    How I can get unique calid for users under two domains..
    whether I need to set Hosted domain support...Then how the mailid's differ with out using hosted domain support..
    And I need to login UWC without using @domain.com...
    Help me on this...
    Ashik

    Do you have UWC and Cal configured at least for virtual domain support?
    basically.. for discussion.. let's say you have three domains on your server.. 1st domain is the default domain. other 2 domains are virtual domains.
    if all domains were created with mail and cal support (-S mail,cal).. you would use the following options when creating users:
    1) for the default domain.. you must use the "-k legacy" option when adding users.
    2) for the other two domains.. when you create the user.. do NOT use a "-k" option.
    If you do not use the "-k" option.. it defaults to "hosted" which will cause the user's calid to be [email protected]
    If you Do use the "-k legacy" option.. it will create the calid as just "userid"
    With regard to logging into UWC without the @domain.com part of a username in a hosted domain.. the easiest way to avoid this.. is to point a host name under the hosted domain to the server.
    if you point webmail.xxxx.com to the server... and then access it via:
    http://webmail.xxxx.com/uwc/
    any users in the xxxx.com hosted domain will NOT need to use @xxxx.com when logging in... they can just use "userid"
    This feature does not take any special configuration (aside from adding a DNS entry for the hosted domain)
    Hopefully that helps.
