How to handle different screen sizes?

Hi,
I have a couple of 2D 180X180 png images. I used them for splash screen, backgrounds etc etc. How do i ensure that my splash screen and background (using these fixed-sized images) can cover the device's displayable area? For example, if a device is 200X200, how do i stretch my 180X180 images?
I'm currently using lcdui's Image class to display the images, and there isn't any method that i could use to scale the images for different device sizes. :-(

The way this is usually handled is with different versions containing graphics fro different screen sizes.
You can resize images using MIDP 2.0, but this method is a memory hog, and with an image as big as 180x180 there is a big risk of running out of memory during the process.
Or you can work out a way so that the screen resolotion doesn't affect you. Like centering the image over a background of the same color as the image's background, using tiles to create the background, etc.

We are developing an enterprise application that will be deployed at different clients with different hardware.
We are confused about how to handle different screen resolutions and wonder how others are handling this.
We have some fixed size areas in our screens and liquid areas for content that may expand. The problem is say that you have a table with 6 columns. This table will be rendered nicely at 1280X800 but not at 1650X1050 or 800X600.
At higher resolutions we will either end up having some blank space or expand one of the columns of the table , but can't expand every column proportionally and this will look ugly.
For lower resolutions same problem in a different way will come into picture, we will not able to resize the columns and end up with scroll bars etc ...
What is the best practice with handling different screen resolutions for components like table,panel splitter etc ?

Hi Muhammed,
I don't think that any better solution exists, you already use liquid layouts and define widths & heights with percentages etc. In my opinion using blank column at the end of table columns makes table's looking better. Additionally creating custom skin for table and defining column heights & widths with % or em may help you to stretch columns?

Handling different view sizes

Hi All,
Hope this is the right place to ask this.
Recently started using flash builder with flex and it does exactly what i need it to, except i cant find out if (and how) different screen sizes are handled or if i have to handle them myself?
As an example, ive created my mobile app based off the iphone 4 screen size. However, if i deploy my app using 3gs, since its such a smaller screen, all the components bunch up on each other and dont resize.
Is there any way to handle this? So if i change what device im deploying to, it handles resizing of all the components on the screen?
Ive noticed it does the same if i increase in size as well.. The components stay exactly where they are positioned, instead of spreading out and use up the available space.

I would guess that the HDMI port on your mac is for output only - no input, and that's what your'e attempting to do when you attach the mac to your xbox. I looked in Mactracker and it lists the HDMI port as video output for both the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the 15" Retina MacBook Pro (your post didn't say which one you have), so looks like that is the issue..

at the moment i only try it with trial and error untill it looks somewhat close. Is there a property in VC to set the size for Height and width.
The same question is for the form. the form elements inside the form is easy but the actual form is still a challenge.

Hi Guys,
I need small suggestio for 'How to handle different languages in illustrator for big clients'. For instance; Arabic, this is a language which needs to be read from right to left instead of left to right. There are other strange languages as well (Cyrillic, Chinese etc.). It happens also that when you copy strange languages from a word file it will not be easy to paste it the correct way in a .ai file. Besides that, it’s also difficult to do a language check when we are not able to read it!. So, to make a long story short, I want to figure out how we can deal with multiple language circles?
Can you some please give me the solution for this...

I take it you might come from an arabic background.
Here is how you can help yourself to some degree.
Google has a translation feature and service which is at the moment free. It is excellent.
Secondly if you are working with ME languages you really need the ME version of Illustrator or any other Creative Suites Application in order for it to work properly.
It, is also best to enable the language and the input for that language for your system on the Mac it is easy you go to the Language and text feature in theSystem Preferences, once enabled you can select the fro the menu bar under the American flag if you are in the US. Thst will appear once you have more than one language selected.
You select the language input you need and then a font for that language then paste and edit.
You need fonts on your computer that are of those languages as well.
How to manage this as a work flow well that is something you will have to work on yourself or hire a consultant who specializes in this area.
We had a few visit here when they have come across a snafu. So they exists.

Scaling front panel objects for different screen sizes

Can anybody help me of designing Vi for different screen sizes. I have designed a VI for a monitor of small size and lower resolution but when I open the same Vi on a different monitor,objects are not aligned properly. The properties which I have changed are
Window appearence->Default
Window Size -> Panel size 0,0 & Tick marked options of Maintain propotions for different monitors and scale all objects
Window Run Time position-> Maximum

Imran,
I can't solve your problem entirely. However when I have to write a program that will be deployed on a variety of monitor sizes, I tend to set the size of the Front Panel to suit the smallest monitor, and then remove the ability of the user to resize it.
Also, set it to run in the centred position.

Resizable page for different screen sizes but with static image content. Shall I use media query?

I’m making a page that has of mostly image content. It’s a large circle in the middle so I want it to be centered vertically and horizontally. I also want it to stay centered and resized proportionally for different screen sizes. I’ve read about media query but it seems to me that the elements just become fluid. Can I make the elements stay in place using the media query?
I’m working in Dreamweaver CS5.5

Site Formatting for different screen sizes

Hi there,
I am designing a website for a customer and having some problems with the site fitting on different screens. I set it to what I was led to believe is the universal resolution/screen size, and it looks great on large, wide-screen computers, but doesn't fit right and requires lots of scrolling on smaller screens. I also have a pop-out light box feature when visitors click TEAM and it doesn't fit on smaller screesn either. How can I make the site auto adjust to different screens? This is a big must for the customer and I'm still pretty new to MUSE so i don't entirely know what I'm doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Truly variable width "liquid" layouts are not supported. However, visual designs that fill the full browser width are possible using browser fill image tiling and 100% width page items. Also page item pinning and browser fill scrolling can be leveraged to create designs where content moves relative to each other when the browser window height or width changes.
We may be exploring responsive layout options for Muse in the future, but right now it is fixed width only.

Best way to deal with different screen sizes

Hi !
We have been a small company using java for our client ( http://www.topbridge.com ) . The Swing client has used panels with absolute positions so the client would fit in 800x600 screen. Since java is 'run everywhere' we would like to rewrite it so it also possible to run on smaller screens ( zaurus ) . Any suggestions about best way to do this? Is there any layout method that would try to fit everything within a given screen size?

Well there's your problem: your UI was written by someone who didn't know how to write a UI.
Always sketch your UI on paper, break it into logical sections rather than dealing with everything in one go (your code should break down accordingly in any case) and for each of those sections determine where space should be allocated when resizing - from this, the decision of which layout managers to use will fall out naturally.

Personas: How set the default screen size when Personas starts up

Hi Personas experts,
When Personas starts, its screen size is by default small, say, size_A. One can press "+" to increase the screen size, say, size_B.
Now I want Personas to start with a bigger screen size, say, size_B instead of the default size, size_A. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

Hi Dong,
There is a minor tweak you have to do in your index.html file. Or I advise you copy the index.html file into a new file and run personas using it.
The tweak in the 40th line where you have the script. Just add          switchPersonasObjectFullScreen();

How to display different screens when starting the Webdynpro app?

Hi All,
When user starting up the Webdynpro app, it will first check some value in the persistent layer. If the check result is ok, it will show the normal app screen to the user; if the check failed, it will show the error screen.
Now I write the check function in the view controller, But I think it is not a good approach, because there are some initialize code in the component controller, so before my check function reached, the server will waste some resource to execute the initialize code in the component controller.
Would anyone give me some hints on how to move the check function to component controller and then display the different screen to the end-user?
