How to have a VARCHAR column

Hi-
I have a 'table' with a VARCHAR(4000). Most of the times the string in this column does not grow larger than 32, but there are times when it does grow large.
I'm wondering how to abstract a VARCHAR?

Question - new to BO Data Services Designer - how to automatically transform varchar column data to upper(varchar) across all columns in a table?

New user to BO Data Services Designer. Company is using Data Services Version 12.2.
I have many tables that all need the same transformation- converting varchars fields to upper(varchar) fields
Example:
I have a table called Items. It has 40 columns, 25 of which are of type varchar.
What I have been doing is ....
I make the Item table as the source table then create a Query transform that is then attached to a new target table called - ITEMS_Production.
I can manually drag and drop columns from the source table to the query and then in the mapping area I can manually type in upper(table_name.column_name) or select the upper function and then select the table.column name from the function drop down list.
Obviously, I want to do this quicker as I have to do this for lots and lots of tables.
How can set up Data Services so that I can drag and drop an upper transform quickly and easily or automate this process.
I also know Python-Java so am happy to script something if need be.
the logic would be something like -
if there is a column with a type varchar, add the upper() transformation to column. Go to next column.
Excited to be using this new tool-

Hi, im doing a process to get a missing series of Official Reciepts (OR_NO Varchar2(10)). I have a problem running my procedure in a part of variable.
The error is ORA-06502 PL/SQL: numeric or value error .
In a sample statement below, if the value for nNo = 'PSFP000123' then if i add + 1 , variable nNo = ''PSFP000124'.
My question is, how can i add nNo + 1 since nNO is a varchar data type?
sample:

How to have spreadsheet like columns in report (like an Excel grid)

I am trying to make a report in landscape format with around 15 columns across the sheet. The data is sales numbers per months plus total, budget and deviation (calculated).The data should be in an Excel-like grid. The individual cell would obviously be fairly small so it fits across one page.I have been playing with this for some time. Aligning so many objects seems to be a lot of work. The tools in CR are not very proficient for such type of layout.You are lost if you want to insert a column. I did not find a way to move all fields across all sections to the right to make room. It gets all screwed up.The grid, I tried it with borders around the fields and with horizontal / vertical lines to create the grid. Any good tip for a better way of doing that? Is the cross-tab an option for your scenario? If you specifically want a grid like structure, this may be an easier route to explore.Alternatively I'd suggest snapping your objects to guidelines (the little inverted triangles on the ruler bar) to help move things around. Or when you select multiple objects, right click and utilize the 'align' and 'size' options to speed up some of the tasks.

Pages: How can I sort one column of words and not have it affect the other columns?

How can I sort one column of words and not have it affect the other columns? I have opened the inspector to the edit columns and rows under Table. It will sort the column, but then it changes the other colums as well. I know that if I use Numbers, it will work, but I want to know how to do the same thing in Pages.

Numbers sorts full rows on values in selected column(s). The technique for sorting a single column is essentially the same as Jerry is describing for Pages tables—separate the (data in the) column to be sorted, sort it, return it to the table.
In Numbers the actual column may be separated from the original table, sorted, then returned. In Pages, the data must be extracted, sorted, then pasted back in, overwriting the unsorted data (if it was left in the original table).
iWork tables follow a database model in which each row is a Record, and each column holds a Field within the records.
As evidenced by the current question (and several similar questions arising in the Numbers community) that model doesn't apply to the way some users, especially some who come in from the MS Excel world, use tables.
With Excels model—islands of data on a single large table, the ability to sort one or a selected few columns of data makes sense. One 'island' may comprise only cells AA21:AH50. Sorting that small 'table' should be possible without disturbing the rest of rows 21-30, which are probably part of one or more other 'data islands' in the sea that is a MS Excel spreadsheet.
In Numbers, each of those 'islands' would be a separate Table, and that Table would be sortable without disturbing other Tables in the document.

Thanks for awarding.
This can be achieved by building a intermediate report.
First, you need to create a intermediate report with the original Time column and one more same time column but with calculations for the past 7 days.
Secondly, you need to create a prompt for the Time and make a presentation variable and refer it in the intermediate report. And make the original Time column equal to the presentation variable.
Thirdly, you need to create the main report with the Time column and fact measure column. Time Column should refer to the intermediate column value (ie ' is based on results of another analysis').
Place the prompt, intermediate report and main report and check this will work for sure.
Similarily, create intermediate reports for other calculations and refer them in the main report.
Hope this surely helps.

How to have all columns display in one go in RSA3

i'm trying to extract the sales order item (2LIS_11_VAITM) thru RSA3 into flat file.
However, the maximum number of columns is limited to 90 columns ( with a hundreds of hidden fields by default). I don't see the system provide you the user parameter where you can change the output list to ALV grid rather. Please advise how can I have all the columns displayed in one go ( even if the column header too shorten is fines to me)?

It sounds like you are not seeing the alphabet listed on the right when perusing songs, artists, or albums in the Music app. I recommend a couple of steps you can take to get it back.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPod touch:
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.

If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the Music app, I recommend restarting your iPod and then resetting if it's still not working:

When I make a document in Numbers '08, that requires more than one page, how do I get the column headings to print on the other pages?
I have looked at 'Print View', but cannot edit what I see. Please help!

I no longer use Numbers '08 but if I remember well, the soluce is to activate the "Show Print View" mode from the View icon available on the left edge of the toolbar.

How can have SharePoint search custom columns in a custom list? I have a custom list for a directory with names, department, title and phone numbers. Department and titles are not searchable with the search box for the list.
How can I make these 2 custom columns searchable?

Any text added to any property is searchable. If you have a Sales department search for "sales", but I think you are asking about doing a property search like "department=sales" or "department:sales".
2013 has a different way than 2007 and 2010 to create Managed Properties. You will need to create a Site Column and then a little configuration. The basic steps are:
Create a Site Column (as SP already has a Department column you will want to create one with a difference name such as CorpDept.)
Add the column to a list or library and add data. (won't be found otherwise)
Wait for the next content crawl. (or manually start a crawl)
Go to the tier where you want to define the managed property and go to the Schema page:
Central Admin, Search Service, Schema
your site, Settings (gear), Site Settings, Search Schema (in the Site Collection Admin section)
your site, Settings (gear), Site Settings, Schema (in the Search section)
Click Managed Properties and search for your column name. It might look like this: ows_q_TEXT_CorpDept.
Edit the Managed Property and give it a useful Alias, such as "CorpDept".
Test the search: CorpDept:Sales
Do a web search for "SharePoint 2013 Site Column Managed Properties" for examples.

ORDER BY on large VARCHAR column

The database driver I am using does not allow me to set an index on a large VARCHAR field. Anyone have any tips for speeding up an ORDER BY on this column for a very large table? There must be some standard tricks out there but I'm having some trouble finding them. Currently, for something like 300,000 records, a simple query without an order by takes a few milliseconds. The same query ORDERed by this VARCHAR column takes a few minutes.
I was thinking of adding a new colum, a LONG called something like NAME_ORDER. Each time I insert a new record, I would search for the record that comes before the new one (decided using a COMPARE like function) and then either make ther NAME_ORDER a value between the previous record and the next record, or if there is no room left, make it the previous record plus on and increment all the following records.
Wow, this sounds like a drag. Anyone have any better ideas? And no I can't shorten or truncate the VARCHAR columns.

how much data are you selecting from this table at one time? (not all of it I hope... )
there are two situations i can think of causing your problem...
1) you are selecting 300,000 rows and doing an ORDER on that... even with an index that's might well take a long time...
2) generally the number of rows in the table won't matter it's how many you return. but the other things that make a slow query are ORDER BY in conjunction with any columns that are functions (such as SUM, COUNT, AVG) or any GROUP BY clause.
For example this...
SELECT x,COUNT(*) FROM table GROUP BY xmight well be performance wise better (by an exponential rate) than
SELECT x,COUNT(*) as thecount FROM table GROUP BY x ORDER BY thecount;IMO generally speaking ORDER BY is one of the worst performance things you can do with a database if the field you are sorting isn't indexed.
so here are my tips...
1) Take a look at your query... do you filter out some rows or are you selecting all 300,000? Does your query have functions or GROUP BY statements that are killing your speed?
2) If you are using functions or GROUP BY (and you have to use them) try and use a temporary table and sort afterwards... this may actually be faster.
3) Try and at least build a partial index on the field... it may well be good enough. most databases will let you do this on VARCHAR fields... the idea is that the index is just on the first 50 char's or whatnot.
