  • How to implement this multi-langual APEX apps

    My requirements are:
    - login page has a dropdown of two languages: English (en-us) and French (fr)
    - page is refreshed when dropdown value has changed.
    - language is selected at login page, and this language setting cannot changed during session.
    - Use cookie to store the selected language, and this language is selected once the login page is launched next time.
    Implementation:
    Globalization Settings
    - primary lang = en-us
    - Application lang derived Form = item preference
    - do the translation in XLIFF files
    Login Page
    - create a SELECT LIST with name "FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE", list of value definition "STATIC:English;en-us,français;fr"
    - After Submit
    owa_util.mime_header('text/html', FALSE);
    owa_cookie.send(name => 'LANG', value=> :FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE, expires => sysdate + 30);
    - Before Header
    l_cookie := owa_cookie.get('LANG');
    l_value := l_cookie.vals(1);
    :FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE := l_value;
    Problems:
When the cookie is stored with value "fr", the droplist is "francais" but the page is not in French,. Also, I don't know how to set the refresh the page when dropdown value is changed.
    Any suggestion ?

    hello
About Refresh of the page when the value is selected:
You need to change the type of select list to select list with submit/redirect and put also a Branch in the page so the app could know where to go after submit/redirect.
    About the cookie problem:
I think that the setting of the value on the page doesn't make this value is set in app.
After setting this value to any field (TEXT or LOV) you need to submit the page so the value will stick.
I remember having the same problem but didn't solved it. :/
And also I don't know if this matters but it's faster:
    l_cookie := owa_cookie.get('LANG');
    :FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE := l_cookie.vals(1);

  • Multi-Lingual sorting

    Hi
As our database tables contain Multi-lingual data(English/Japanese/Jerman/Spanish etc), we need to implement MULTI-LINGUAL sort in our application. We are using ORACLE-10g as DB for .Net application.
If anyone has already implemented the MULTI-LINGUAL sort in effective way, pls do guide me to proceed in further. I badly need a solution for this.
hi Scott swank, hope u can give me a better solution.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ela

You may use NLS_SORT to get the proper linguistic sorting: for example
    ALTER SESSION SET NLS_SORT='GERMAN';
Note: Linguistic sort can prevent Oracle from using indexes, decreasing performance.

  • Multi lingual form

    Hi all,
Can you give me an idea on how to make a multi-lingual form. Lets say I have a form and I want it to accept Chinese language or convert it into a Chinese language. How will I do this stuff? Because we are developing a system here which will be eventually used in Hongkong.
    Thanks
    null

    Hi,
In the development state, there is no need to change the NLS_LANGUAGE for database server and developer. But when you install the database server and developer runtime for your users, you must set the NLS_LANGUAGE to traditional Chinese. The database service may failed if you change the NLS_LANGUAGE after installation.

  • How to generate multi-lingual applications with Designer?

In Designer 10g we have the definitions of hundreds of tables and views and
forms/reports modules. Currently all texts (prompts, hints, comments, help texts, etc) are in Dutch. Because of new customers in Germany, we now have to translate everything into German (and in the future also to French and English etc).
We know that we can use Translation Hub to translate forms and reports,
however, many tables/columns are used by more modules (sometimes 10 or more). So, the translation of each module with the Hub is very inefficient.
We are wondering if there are easier ways. For example, when we translate a
prompt of a tablecolumn, Designer (Headstart) can update all related module items. So, with one translation, we in fact translate many modules at once.
We could perhaps make a copy of the application, but that will work very
inefficiently because each modification has to be done on multiple
    applications.
Has anyone a genius solution for this?
Thanks for your help, Jan Willem

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there isn't a genius solution out there for you. And it isn't a Designer problem, it's an application architecture problem.
You'll notice that Headstart (since you've looked at that) does two things for you. One is that it has utilities to go update many items for you. Two is that it uses standard error and LOV tables which are multi-lingual based. You enter your messages and lookups in many languages (many rows per code, one per language) and the Headstart library logic displays the right row based on the code and the NLS setting. architecture.
In your case, where you have hard-coded everything, if you don't want to re-architect things, then your only solution is to clone things. Probably best off (based on other client experience) to just keep the single model in your base language, develop and gen as you have been, and then work your way through all the source code (database and application components) to do all the translation (as noted the Translation Hub can help some), and then implement each result. At least that way you know all the functional logic works. So you're not introducing any bugs (except for when the translated info is longer then the base info -- as we have here in Canada where French takes up more space then English). sorry. ugly.

  • How to design multi-lingual reports w.r.t. boilerplate text

    Hi,
We need to design reports and report templates that are multi-lingual with respect to the boilerplate text in them.
How could this be done, if at all?
I am a bit familiar with the ideas about NLS parameters used to translate and format data that comes from the database, error messages etc., from other OTN posts and Reports documentation.
NLS stuff is NOT what I'm asking about.
Also, I don't think I need to mix languages in one report (or maybe is this part of a possible solution?)
Can I design a report which dynamically displays its boilerplate text parts in different languages, depending on the Windows locale of the user invoking the report?
Can I put all the boilerplate translations inside the report or some report 'configuration' file, rather than somewhere in the database?
If the report is set for batch production and automatic distribution, how would the scheduling mechanism tell the report which language to have its boilerplate text displayed at each invocation?
I think we'll be using Reports Builder 6i for development and will deploy on 9iAS R2 Reports Services. I'm not the actual developer, so I'm not sure about which Report Builder version will be used.
    Thanks a lot,
    Gabriel Tanase

    hello,
there are several ways to do it. i guess the most practical way is to actually use the XML customization feature that is available with reports or use translation hub, but since you stated that you are using 6i this is not an option as translation hub is only available from 9i onwards.
however the XML customziation approach would work for 6i as well. essentailly you create your report and make sure all your boilerplate text items have a uniqe name. then you can create a customization file for each language that then changes the content of each of the poilerpalte items. those can be applied at runtime or in batch.
as for the scheduling, you would need to either pass in a parameter naming the customization file or simply run the correct language version of the report.
    thanks,
    ph.

  • How to define additional virtual image directories for multi lingual app.

    Hi,
In my ApEx application, for English language I want to use default image directory /i/, but for other languages I want to use seperate image directories like /i/fr/ for French etc. In - Translate Application -> Application Language Mapping , there is a text area to capture the Image Directory.
How can I define additional image directory (apart from /i/) in my multilingual application? What are the steps for defining these virtual image directories in a multi lingual setup?
    I am using ApEx v 3.1.2 on 11g with embeded PL/SQL gateway.
Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction are highly appreciated.

  • How to implement  multi-companies schemas?

I need to implement a multi-companies data base. There will be only one server and all the clients of the differents companies will have access to this server.
    How can I do this?
    - Tables with a company column
    - A schema per company
    Any suggestion?
    Regards

In my mind, the simplest possible thing that could work would be a single schema where most if not all tables had a COMPANY_ID column, a context that gets populated with the COMPANY_ID, and a view layer that reads the data from the context to limit the set of rows that the current session can access. That way there is only one view that provides company-specific data regardless of the company rather than one view per company. This would be relatively similar to the VPD solution replacing policies on tables with views.
    You can create a context
CREATE OR REPLACE CONTEXT your_context_name USING your_authorization_pkg;where YOUR_AUTHORIZATION_PKG is a package that determines which COMPANY_ID a particular session will have access to. That's one of the more vulnerable pieces of the infrastructure here, so you'll want to make sure that it is well secured. Within YOUR_AUTHORIZATION_PKG, you would set the value of the context
DBMS_SESSION.SET_CONTEXT( 'YOUR_CONTEXT_NAME', 'COMPANY_ID', <<computed company id>> )where <<computed company id>> is the company ID that your package has determined the user has access to. Your view layer can then reference the value in the context
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW vw_employee
    AS
    SELECT *
      FROM employee
WHERE company_id = SYS_CONTEXT( 'YOUR_CONTEXT_NAME', 'COMPANY_ID' );This isn't as easy or as secure as VPD, but it's often close enough.

  • How does the servlet implement the multi-thread feature?

There is only one instance of every servlet in one wep application.
When several clients invoke the doPost() method of the same servlet, the servlet can process their request respectively.
So there much multi threads of one servelt.
But the Servlet doesn't implement the Runnable interface of extends the Thread class.
    I wan't to know,how does the servlet/servlet container implement the multi-thread feature?

    Hi johnnylzb
There is only one servlet instance existing.
    (assuming u have <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>)
The server creates a thread for every request ..
and all the threads access the same servlet instance.
For this its not necessary for the Servlet to extend Thread or Runnable.
    hope this helps

  • WCM for Multi-lingual Website How To?

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle UCM, and would like to know if there is any link/document talking about WCM for multi-lingual website?
Which is the best way if a website contains content in different language such as English, Chinese, etc.
    Thanks.

Sapan has provided a good start with the "lc" iDocScript command. However, this only works for your static strings such as menus, etc.
You will need to put a lot of thought into how to handle multiple languages with your data files. A lot of people have several copies of their web sites (one for each language), but this gets kind of difficult after the languages start to add up. WCM is very good at multi-site management, but the number one thing to keep in mind for multi-lingual: do not be fooled, it is going to take some real roll your sleeves up old fashioned work.
There are several options for multi-lingual site architectures and I recommend you spend a few weeks with an Oracle WCM Architect talking it out (either form oracle or one of the many partners). It's just too large a topic for a forum post to answer satisfactorily.

  • How should implement multi-thread in single-threaded Operating system using

How should implement multi-thread in single-threaded Operating system using java?
Java supports "Multi-threading".Is there is any way run the multiple threads (Implementing multi threading) using java in a Single-threaded Operating system (That is the operating system does not support for multi-threading).

Previous questions from OP suggest they are using J2ME, so the question might be possible.
    806437 wrote:
How should implement multi-thread in single-threaded Operating system using java?
    What is the actual question/problem?
A java app doesn't do threads or not do threads. It uses classes. The VM does threads.
So if you have a platform that does not have threads and you want to support the thread class then the VM, not a java app, must provide some pseudo mechanism, such as green threads, to support that.
If your question is about java code and not the VM then you must build a task engine and insure that the tasks are of short enough duration that it is an effective use for your system.

  • How to insert multi-lingual information into an NVARCHAR column

    Hi,
I've searched through the forum but couldn't find an answer, and have spent days on this already.
I have a Java Web Application, and the user may enter information in any language into one of the forms. I need to collect the user-input, and insert it into an Oracle 10g database.
    My database settings:
    WE8ISO8859P1 for Char/VarChar/CLOB fields and
    AL16UTF16 for Nchar/Nvarchar/NCLOB fields
I have defined the columns that require multi-lingual support to be NVARCHAR.
My question is, how do I insert into this column? From what I read, it seems that no conversion needs to be done, but doing this:
    update <table> set <column> = '什么'
does not work. The '什么' is some Chinese characters I copied and pasted from a Chinese site.
Apparently, if I convert the Chinese characters to a hex string and do this:
    update <table> set <column> = unistr('\xxxx')
    then it will work.
However, is there a way to avoid doing this conversion and let Oracle handles the conversion?
    Thanks in advance,
    Elaine

    Hi Denes,
I saw the example in your workspace and it is the same what exactly i want and instead of storing in one column i want to store the two selected values into two different columns. Also i need to restrict the selection of checkboxes upto 2 only. So If the user tries to select the third check box it doesnt have to accept.
Even I am ready to change my table as according to your example i.e. creating only one column. Store the values of selection into that column.
I was unable to see how u wrote the logic (Code) for your example in your workspace. It helps alot if you provide me the code for that example(Multi Checkbox One Column).
I was facinated after watching your examples in your workspace and am very much interested to know more about Apex.
Please help me insolving this as it is long pending issue for my requirement.
    Thanks a lot again,
    Sekhar.

    Hi Dave,
Verizon is somewhat different from normal GSM/HSPA/LTE carriers in the respect that it still offers some of it's service over CDMA EVDOx1 A/B. The CDMA protocol is not usually delivered using a sim card only, and there are carrier settings in the iPad which are for this purpose.
I do not believe the iPad is locked to Telstra as 4th generation iPads are all unlocked by default. You need to give the MEID and IMEI number to Verizon. When they have been added to Verizon's network, then insert the Verizon sim card and completely factory reset the device. You will lose everything. When the device reboots, it should come up onto Verizon. If you restore, you may lose the Verizon carrier settings.
The 4th generation A1460 iPad seems to be a dual mode device between CDMA and non CDMA carriers. And the mode seems to be set upon the first encounter with a sim card after a complete reset.
To confirm the device is not locked, pop a T-Mobile or AT&T sim card into it. If it is locked, you will get a message stating that it is carrier locked. If not, you should see 3G service on either of those networks.
I would strongly recommend finding a small techie independent dealer who can probably help with this more than the staff in Verizon. Verizon is a very controlled network and BYOD is not massively supported at the best of times. They are unlikely to have experience of this and their text book response would be that they do not support it.
I'm also unsure as to whether or not Verizon offers LTE data on Prepaid plans so if it is a prepaid plan, you would only get 3G (CDMA) which after using Telstra would not impress you much speed-wise.
What may be an easier solution although not as desirable would be putting a prepaid T-Mobile sim card in. They now support DC-HSPA on 1900Mhz in many markets and it is nearly as fast as Verizon's LTE and quite cheap too. (With this T-Mobile solution, no reset would be required).
    Good luck.
    J.
