How to implement WEP key change ?

Hi everyone,
Once a week, I go and teach English in a pensioners association here in France.
I have recently been advised that their WEP key had been changed.
I expected a prompt requesting the new key but it did not happen. It simply does not work.
How can I re-connect using the new key ?
I use a MacBook with Yosemite 10.10.2
Thanks for your help
Christian

To support dynamic wep you will need to setup a RADIUS server for authentication. You would then configure PEAP or EAP-TLS for athentication. IAS (Server 2000, 2003) or NPS (Server 2008) is free, but if you are going to dynamic WEP why not go with WPA.

  • How to implement Force password change during authentication

    Description of problem
Our client requires web applications to support its internal security policy beyond
    normal authentication. This includes:
    - force password change periodically. This should be performed at logon time.
    - maintain password history so that a new password would not repeat any of its
    previous 15 changes.
We already have an authentication server that satisfy these requirements. However,
we would also like to base our solution on WebLogic security framework so that
we can leverage the benefit of the container-managed declarative security (e.g.
we don't need to use our special cookie to check whether a user is authenticated
for every web page in the application). So the best scenario for us is to wrap
up this authentication server using WLS 7.0 authentication SSPI.
My initial investigation of WLS 7.0 security framework (based on edocs and the
sample customer security provider codes) convinced me that overall, this is achievable.
However, I am still left with quite a few questions, which I would like to get
    your help.
    Questions:
    1. (web container) The J2EE-standard container-based authentication is to specify
<login-config> element. My understanding is that only FORM based authentication
is applicable. The specified form elements:
    <form method="post" action="j_security_check">
    <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" NAME="j_username">
    <INPUT TYPE= "password" NAME="j_password">
    </form>
is adequate for authentication. However, if the authentication service provider
indicates that password change is needed, what would be the most appropriate way
within WebLogic for the authentication service provider to pass such a flag to
the web container know so that our application can access it? I guess, a simpler
question, would be, using the standard <login-config>, webapp knows only about
authentication fails or succeeds. Can it possibly know more information provided
by the authentication service provider right after authentication?
    2) If we don't use standard FORM-based authentication, we will code up our own
authentication control, which could give us a lot more flexibility, but can we
then bind our Subject obtained through our authentication control to the WebLogic
Subject that is running the webapp.
    3) (Authentication service provider) Our design is for the custom LoginModule
to delegate login calls to the authentication server, and throws more refined
exceptions such as: FailedLoginException, PasswordExpiredException, UserAccountLockedException
(all subclassed from LoginException). Another approach is to provide detailed
information such as password expired in callbacks. Either way, when Authentication
service provider returns, how our web application can access this refined flag
    of authentication result.
    4) Can our customer authentication service provider use DataSource defined in
a weblogic server? I ask this question because DataSource itself is a protected
resource of WebLogic. Will referencing it during authentication initiate another
    authentication cycle?
Can anyone who has experienced similar requirements and worked solutions please
give me a hint? I appreciate your guidance.

I believe it's impractical to fit the requirement of forcing a password change
    into the standard JAAS interface.
I think the only practical way to do this is to implement a servlet filter that
reads the persistent record of the logged-in user to check for a "force change
password flag". If it finds this, the servlet filter will forward to a page to
change your password. Note that the servlet filter may be hit again when
trying to get to the change password page, so it needs to know to not do the
    check in that case.
If you implement this, I would strongly urge you to softcode the "change
password" page URL in your system configuration, and not hardcode it in the
    servlet filter.

  • How to implement dynamic language change in all Components

    Hi all,
I`m quite confused because i have app in wich i create Language object it is singleton made using abstract factory used for querying text to be shown in components. I has simple method:
    public String getText(String fieldName) {}
Wich returns text. I have also config object to know what desired language i want to have on startup. But problem occurs when i want to set dynamic language change during app run so all containers gets its texts again using language object (which is another type now). Do You have some ideas ??
I thought about extending all JButtons,Frames,Labels etc... and adding method:
void setYourText(Language l) { this.setText(l.getText(// and here we have problem because all fields have unique arguments for getText
    }

  • Printer does accept the WEP key. any Solution, c309g wireless setup

    Hi,
    i have a Photosmart c309 g printer.
I have been on phone with the tech for almost 8 hrs but with no solution. The end result being, they suggested to replace the printer.
when i and also with assistance with the technician, ran the Wireless setup wizard,  my network is detected. when i hit ok on it, it prompts for WEP. Then i enter it, it displays connecting and then displays "ERROR " "Invalid WEP".
Below are the other few steps i tried......... >
a> the printer was RESET , i guess it was SemiFull Reset . Then we tried running the wireless setup wizard, and it ended up with the same error  "ERROR " "Invalid WEP".
b> we installed through USB to have it in wireless .... the same issue.
c> the tech asked me have the WEP key changed. I called my Router mfd and got the WEP key changed to only Numbers ( earlier it was alphanumeric ) , we then tried running the wireless setup wizard .. we got the same error message.
d> We also tried Manually adding the IP, subnet mask and default gateway .... but the ping does not work. It says 100% loss.
The tech concluded that it could be a problem with the printer wireless circuit . hence advised to replace the printer.
I am returning the printer to the stores in a day or 2days. Let me know if "returning the printer " is the right thing to do or is there anyone over here who could suggest me steps to resolve it.
    Thanks !!!!!!!!

Let's try an experiment.  Since I'm not sure of your exact configuration, I'd like  you to try some one of the following:
If your Linksys wireless-router is also your ADSL modem -- disconnect the telephone line from the Linksys wireless-router and then power cycle the Linksys (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug power back in).  Leave the telephone line unplugged.
    -- or --
If your ADSL modem is separate from your Linksys wireless-router, disconnect the LAN cable between the ADSL modem and the Linksys wireless-router and then power cycle the Linksys (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug power back in).  Leave the LAN cable disconnected.
Power cycle the printer.  Wait 60 seconds for the wireless-router to power up completely and then run the C309g Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer's front panel (Setup -> Network -> Wireless Setup Wizard).
If the printer connected successfully, then there is one more change we need to make and that is to set a static IP address for the printer.
Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address plus an offset.  For example, if the printer's IP address is currently 192.168.0.5, then use 192.168.0.30.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the wireless-router and reconnect the cable (telephone or LAN).  Now turn off  the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the wireless-router and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.
Finish up by installing the SW on the computers you want to print from.  One more suggestion -- do not install the HP Customer Participation Program.

  • My new smart TV recognizes my network, & asks, "Please enter you WEP keys (10 or 26 hex digits)" but my netwotk uses a password of 6 characters. How can I get my smart TV to connect to my network?

I have a current iMac with the latest OS update.
My new smart TV recognizes my network, & asks, “Please enter your WEP keys (10 or 26 hex digits).  My  Airport Express, an early model, only requires a password of less than 10 characters.
When I open “airport utility,”on my iMac it tells me this version doesn’t support my base station & says go to “Airport Service & Support.”  That’s what got me here.
My earlier MacBook runs OS 10.6.8. Its version of  Airport Utility works. Its Airport ID has 17 characters, & uses the same password to access the internet, but it also has a “wireless password” of 26 characters, but only shows me the dots. i haven’t the foggiest notion  what the characters are, if I put them in there years ago when i did the original configuration, or if they got there otherwise..
I’m afraid of changing those settings for fear that I’l mess up the whole thing.

  • Help? Can I change my WEP key on my router?

    Hi All...
I'm a newbie to these forums and I have a question... Can I change my WEP key on my FiOS wireless router?  (Actiontec MI424-WR Rev. D)
My neighbor, who also watches our dog when we go on holiday, has been using my internet from his house.  He freely admitted this.  My FiOS is much faster than his throttled Comcast and since he's a power user (torrents) he frequently uses my internet connection for all his massive downloads.  His usage knocks me off PS3 and noticeably slows my internet speeds down.
I know he has my IP and WEP since he spends weeks at a time in my house.  I'd like to change my WEP key and keep it hidden from him.
How can I kick him off and prevent him from hopping back on?
    Thanks in advance.

    Solved!

Well... theft of services issues aside since what your neighbor is doing is illegal ...
I agree with Justin.   Go with a WPA2 connection and use a reasonably long and complex password.    I'd change the SSID as well although that's not absolutely required.   Also make sure you change the userid/password on the router as well in case they know it.   Don't get wrapped up in hiding the SSID or turning on Mac authentication -- while they don't necessarily hurt, they don't add anything appreciable to the equation and just make your own life more difficult.
Now ... I'm going ask, are you even using the the wireless at all?  Perhaps you are using a hardwired PC to the router and really don't need the wireless?  If so, just go into the router and turn the wireless off. Your neighbor can't steal what isn't there.
Oh ... and it might be time to get the key back and find a new dog sitter.

  • How can I input the required wep key to enable wifi

Trying to connect to my wifi network with my iPad, however the network needs a WEP key. iPad doesn't seem to be able to input this key, although I have it.
    Any ideas..?

The password should be printed on the router's label.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Changing the default WEP Key

I have been connecting to a wireless network for months but then I changed my router and the WEP key. My laptop is still trying to connect with the old key, even though the new password is stored in key chain. How do I made my laptop automatically use the new key.
I DON'T NEED HELP MAKING A KEY. I NEED HELP MAKING MY LAPTOP USE THE NEW KEY.
My work around for now is opening network preferences and clicking Assist Me > Diagnose and then entering the WEP key there. But this takes forever and shouldn't have to be done. Thanks for the help!

Oh, okay about no issue with WEP keys then. You might want to consider turning airport off temporarily, then do what nerowolfe suggested, then go to sys prefs network and select the airport interface and click on advanced, then on the airport tab, delete the network altogether. For good measure, you could reboot to come up in a known state (?), turn airport back on, and manually re-add it as a wireless network just as you would do if you had roamed into a new wireless service area. At least that's what I'd try to do.

Summing up, the External Authenticate command should have the following value:  84 82 01 00 10 1B781553209748EA 01761103B810F00E.
Try to compare it with your results.

  • How to set up wireless WEP keys in GPO? - possible?

    Summary:
How to switch users from using Intel ProSet to manage their legacy SSID w/ WEP to using Windows Zero Config w/ both legacy & new SSID's automatically?
    Detail:
Some of our sites are still using WEP for wireless encryption (believe it or not) over 802.11b AP's.
We're in process of upgrading encryption from WEP to WPA2 & from 802.11b to 802.11a/g AP's.
One immediate challenge we have is how to keep both networks in parallel and make this transparent to the end users.
We can't cut all floors over at once, but need to do one floor at a time because users move from floor to floor.
We were able to roll out the new network / SSID in Windows Zero Config through GPO, but learned that we can't do the same for the legacy SSID - setting WEP keys isn't an option in GPO, at least according to the server admins.
Does any of you know how we can do this in an automatic & transparent fashion?
So far we've been using sneaker net to switch users from Intel to Windows, & configure WEP keys in Windows, which is taking up way too much time.

If you use a GPO to manage the wireless it will disable the intel proset software. This can have a negative impact, as you may have user that like to use the Proset when not in the office.
If you are going to use GPOs then the transition should be pretty smooth, just setup the new secure SSID first and then roll out the GPO. There are several M$ patches that you should install as well. Do a search for Microsoft Wireless hotfix and rollup and you will find them.

  • How do i find WEP key for wrt54g

Hi, my husband set up our system and i am trying to add a new wireless printer. He is out of the country for business, hence my problem. How do i find what the WEP key/ network key is? Thank you for your help.

    Hope this helps.

  • How to view my WEP Key ?

I need to connect to my Airport Extreme Wireless Network from a WIndow XP configured Macbook.
WIndows requires the Hexadecimal WEP key to connect.
    How do i get this?
To be sure, i have read many similar questions on this forum and tried :
    - The network preference panel. The "show password" tick option remains grayed out.
    - The Airport utility. The "equivalent network password" on the Base Station meny remains grayed out.
    - The Keychain access utility. I can only find the alphabetic passord, not the hexadecimal WEP key (of course tried to enter the alphabetic one, but did not work, so i assume it is expecting the hexadecimal one....).
    - In one of the posts, the contributor is bemoaning about an upgrade on snow leopard that makes getting to view the WEP key absurdly complicated. He provides a link :
    http://www.adamriggins.com/2009/11/16/how-to-view-saved-wifi-passwords-in-osx-sn ow-leopard/
... which unfortunately is not working anymore...
I do clearly remember easily retrieving the WEP key 2 or 3 years ago, maybe from OS leopard at the time. I don't quite understand why it's been made so difficult now. Was there a security issue ? then is there an Apple note summarizing those facts and recommanding steps for previously set networks ?
Anyone who can help on this is very welcome.
    Thanks in advance
    YM

well first of all why are you using wep? don't you realize that all wep networks can be cracked in 15 minutes?
older versions of windows xp do not know WPA/WPA2 if you are running the latest service pack then it should support WPA or WPA2
if for the life of you cannot determine the WEP password no matter how hard you try. i found mine by going into keychain and clicked on show password and there was my wifi password
then you might as well just download the latest version of airport utility, write down all the important settings, and then use the reset button to erase everything and then reconfigure it from scratch. and then you will know your password.
while you are there, if you can turn on wpa, by all means turn it on
