How to init an application scope backing bean once app server startup?

Hi guys,
I got an application scope backing bean but I don't know how to initialize it once the app server startup ! I need all the webpage to be able to get the 'defaultCountry' value once the app server startup !
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>applicationScopeBean</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>com.borneo.webapp.action.ApplicationScopeBean</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>application</managed-bean-scope>
<managed-property>
<property-name>defaultCountry</property-name>
               <property-class>java.lang.String</property-class>
<value>Singapore</value>
</managed-property>
</managed-bean>
Pls help, Thanks !
regards,
Mark

write a context listener and set up your web.xml as such
<listener>
<listener-class>com.package.ContextListener</listener-class>
</listener>
Then your class should inmplement ServletContextListener interface.
The 2 methods need to be implemented
public void contextDestroyed(ServletContextEvent sc_event) { }
public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent sc_event) { }
Hope that helps

  • How to protect an application running on Apache Tomcat app server with OAM 11gR2

    Gurus,
    We have an Apache Tomcat based application named "ABCD" here at client site that we want OAM 11gR2 PS1 to integrate with for SSO purposes. I have successfully configured OHS to reverse proxy requests to Apache Tomcat server whenever somebody tries to access the application URL but still, I am getting the application login page once I have successfully authenticated on OAM SSO login page. The Tomcat based application is authenticating users against a "UserDatabase realm".
    I know in terms of weblogic application, there is an OAM identity asserter provider which then populates the User Principal for the java environment with the authenticated OAM user. But there is no such OAM identity provider for Tomcat.
    So my question is, is there an provider (or Tomcat equivalent) which will entrust authentication to a header, that could be used to populate the Java User Principal from the OAM_REMOTE_USER header? Is the weblogic equivalent of authentication providers present in tomcat as well? Are those called valves?
    Please advise to the earliest.
    Thanks !!

    Aakash,
    I did follow the 4 steps that you mentioned to me. Out of the 4 that you had mentioned, I already had the webgate in place on OHS server and I was already passing the remote_user http header in oam policy as action.
    As part of Step #2: Install mod_jk plugin on OHS server that you mentioned
    1.) I downloaded the tomcat connector - tomcat-connectors-1.2.37-src
    2.) I had to run ./configure,make, make install on my OHS server which runs on RHEL 6. It created the mod_jk.so file. I pasted it in the needed folder.
    3.) I then created the httpd.conf file and workers.properties file as said in the connector docs.
    4.) Restarted OHS.
    As part of Step #3: Configure tomcat's ajp connector that you mentioned and I went through all the links pasted below but didn't find actually what needs to be in place to configure tomcat's ajp connector. I do see in the server.xml of tomcat app server that the ajp 1.3 protocol is supported:
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-4.0-doc/config/ajp.html
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-3.3-doc/mod_jk-howto.html#s8

        <Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
                   connectionTimeout="20000"
                   redirectPort="8443" />
    <!-- Define an AJP 1.3 Connector on port 8009 -->
        <Connector port="8009" protocol="AJP/1.3" redirectPort="8443" />
    Do we need to disable the HTTP protocol in Tomcat and keep only AJP connector enabled? If yes, how to do that?
    I am trying to connect to the application from OHS server like so I am using the http protocal right? How should I use the ajp protocol to connect to tomcat application?

    Thanks !!!!!

  • Calling init() method from "session scope" backing beans (AbstractPageBean)

    hi,
    i prepared a jsp/jsf page named DBmanage, its backing bean's scope is set to "session"
    the page contains - among other components - one radiobuttongroup, the buttons of which i would like to rename at the first time when the user visits the page... (default names are "item 1", "item 2", "item 3")
    i thought that the overridden init() method does the work for me with this simple code:
    import com.sun.webui.jsf.model.Option
    @override
    init() {
    rbg_default_options.setOption( new Option[]{new Option("it1", "RB1"), new Option("it2", "RB2")}
    so, let see how this code works when DBmanage backing bean's scope is "request"
    great! i see a radiobuttongroup with two buttons, named RB1 and RB2
    ok, now i change the scope to "session"
    sh&#@t!!! now i'm gazing at a page with buttons named "item 1", "item 2", "item 3"
    let's place a breakpoint inside the init() method and DEBUG... and my init() code has not run(??), how can this happen? init() method is valid only for request beans?
    pls! could anyone help me?
    ps.: i work with netbeans6.0 & glassfish
    thanks
    Gabor

    it's ok. i found out why it wasn't working.
    my scope was set to "session", but had to be "request" so that i could use the params syntax.
    thanks anyway.

  • How to decide when to keep backing bean in request and session.Pros/cons

    How to decide when to keep backing bean in request and session.Pros/cons

    Depends on where the bean data must be available. Start with request scope. If you need the data in session scope, then think twice about impacts (memory usage, multiple browser tabs, etc) unless the data is obviously targeted on the session scope (loggedin user, user settings, dropdown data, etc).

    How do I get my money back?
    This app (Apple Remote Desktop) doesn't do what I need.   I only need screen sharing with one user.
    Installation and setup of ADR was so complex that I was forced to find a simpler workaround.
    I found that a substitute function (75 percent of what I need) is built into Skype.   It's a pain, but it works.

  • How to track PropertyChangeEvent for the backing beans?

    Hello
    I'm working on JSF 1.2 + JDK 1.6. Would like to know wether any direct support for tacking the PropertyChangeEvent for the backing bean. Objective is to keep track of the modified entities ( backing bean) and update the corresponding Database records at later stage with the modified attribute/record.
    E.g:
    Assume a datatable is populated with list, and 3 rows alone is modified, So the DB update is supposed to happen only for those rows. I prefer to have the PropertyChange tracking logic in one place. Dont want to add PropertyChangeListener for all backing beans.
    Can anybody help me on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Jobinesh
    Edited by: JobineshP on Jun 20, 2008 6:52 AM

    This is no direct support in JSF for PropertyChangeEvents.
    As for other solutions to your problem, first looking specifically at the database updates, Hibernate tracks modifications to fields and can be configured to only update the needed columns (see the dynamic-update attribute). So perhaps Hibernate can suit your needs or you could use their techniques to solve your problem.
    Taking a wider view of the general problem of adding PropertyChangeListeners to managed beans, I would be inclined to use Spring and AOP to add the PropertyChangeEvents to all the setters. Spring might also help the configuration of the PropertyChangeListeners. Although I have to say that I think that PropertyChangeEvents are of limited use in a web application.
    Another approach might be to hook into the JSF EL expression engine. You could add a special ELResolver whose purpose is to discover when the property changes happen. The drawback is that all the setting must be done via the EL in order for this to work.

  • H:inputText ; How To initialize value Property from back/bean method?

    Hello Guys at Sun Forums.
    I am a newbie at using JSF. and I'm having a bit of a Problem.
    I don't know how to initialize the value property of a h:inputText from a method inside a backing bean that returns a String data type.
    My Method inside the Backing bean is this:
    public String getLastDate()
            Connection con = null;
            Statement stmt = null;
            ResultSet rs = null;
            Date DateCapt = null;
            String DateConv= null;
            try{
                Class.forName("com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDrive").newInstance();
                con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sybase:Tds:localhost/BAN_PRO_SNP", "xxxx", "xxxx");
                if(!con.isClosed()){
                    stmt = con.createStatement();
                    stmt.executeQuery ("SELECT TOP 1 CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), fec_parametro, 103) fec_parametro FROM snp_sei_parametros" +
                    "     WHERE cod_parametro = 'FECHA'" +
                    "     ORDER BY fec_parametro DESC");
                    rs = stmt.getResultSet();
                    while (rs.next())
                                DateCapt = rs.getDate("fec_parametro");
                rs.close();
                stmt.close();
            catch (Exception ex)
                        System.out.println("COULD NOT LOAD THE DRIVER!!!!");
                        System.out.println(ex);
                    DateConv = String.valueOf(DateCapt).toString();
        return DateConv;
    }As you can see the Method returns a String data type, and all I want to know is how put that returned String as the initial value of a h:inputText. when the jsf-jsp page loads.
    Please Help Me.

    You should be able to do
       <h:inputText value="#{bean.lastDate}"/>Where 'bean' is the managed bean name containing
    the method getLastDate().
    When the view is rendered, the getter (getLastDate())
    will be called to display whatever value is returned.

  • How to handle exception on a backing bean constructor ?

    Hello,
    I would like to handle the exceptions throw on the constructor of a backing bean, and redirect the user to a "service not available" page.
    When I use "request.sendRedirect()" method to redirect the user to such page, I logically got an "IllegalStateException: Cannot forward a response that is already committed".
    Do you have any idea how can I redirect or forward a user to a page when the response is already commited? Is it possible to use servlet filter and do a forward after the doFilter()?
    Thank you.

    Just throw the exception and map an error page in the web.xml.
    <error-page>
        <exception-type>java.lang.Exception</exception-type>
        <location>error.jsp</location>
    </error-page>

  • How to prepopulate properties of a backing bean

    Hi Everybody,
    I am new to JSF. In order to display a form with fields set to some value, I was trying to prepopulate properties of the form's backing bean based on properties of another bean. I tried the following and it doesnot work
    <managed-bean>
    <description>blah blah</description>
    <managed-bean-name>visitBean</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>com.x.y.VisitBean</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
    </managed-bean>
    managed-bean>
    <description>blah blah</description>
    <managed-bean-name>infoBean</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>com.x.z.InfoBean</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>name</property-name>
    <value>#{visitBean.user.name}</value>
    </managed-property>
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>phoneNumber</property-name>
    <value>#{visitBean.user.phoneNumber}</value>
    </managed-property>
    </managed-bean>
    I want to use the InfoBean class to capture data from info.jsp. I also want the info.jsp to be prepopulated with data from VisitBean.
    I first populate the visit bean from the database and then when the user clicks on the edit information link, the information form in info.jsp should be prepopulate with his information.
    Am I doing something wrong ? Is there a more elegant way of initializing the properties of a backing bean ?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    You can use the constructor to set the initial values of your bean.
    You may need to retrieve the visitBean from the session scope to do this.
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().
                   getSessionMap().get("visitBean");Hope this helps.
