How to keep aspect ratio for different sized resolutions?

If I have a 1280 x 800 resolution widescreen moniter, and I have this fullscreen game that likes to run in 800 x 600 but I don't like the way that the game stretches across the whole widescreen moniter. The only way for me to keep everything in a good aspect ratio is to put my resolution at 1280 x 800 but the game doesn't like that.
Would there be a way to set it so that the 800 x 600 resolution is set to have the correct aspect ratio rather than being stretched across the widescreen?  ie, so it looks like a square with black spots on both sides.
I heard that a modeline generator would be the thing I want, but I'm not sure how I should go about this stuff. If you have any reading on it, please give it to me.

Thank you very much. I never thought to look in the BIOS.
There wasn't an option to keep aspect ratio and stretch but I was able to center it rather than stretching.
Now my framebuffer boot up got centered, I need to find out how to make the framebuffer bootup be 1280x800 rather than 1024x768. This should be simple, but the guide in the sample menu.lst only gives square-y resolutions.

    I have already tried with VI properties in the VI but i dont think its working.
    Can someone please help me ?

    Yup it is a pain to use panes, but that is the easiest method I've found which meets my requirements.  Learn to use panes and splitters effectively, and then learn their limitations and workaround when you find those limitations.  In general LabVIEW should handle multi-resolutions, and resizing better but these are the tools we have today.

    Sorry to hear that. There is an enhanced version on Adobe Exchange that may be more "bug free".
    https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/2955#.VNQ6Asbdkqg
    You might want to test is on a smaller file and see if it will export the PNGs at the proper resolution. My quick test showed that it did.
    You can delete the "Layer" export and get JUST the Artboards by choosing "Export Layers>None". You may have already tried that.
    You might also break your file into 2 or more files and see if it works with fewer artboards.
    I have had good success with the free version. Perhaps the paid version will solve the issue.

  • Preserve aspect ratio for Windows Vista 64-bit OS on iMac

    Hello, I wanted to know how to preserve aspect ratio on my screen resolution of 4:3 with black borders on left and right of the screen, after I have installed 64 bit Boot Camp drivers on it. I rather to play older Windows games in 4:3 without stretched mode as stretched mode looks so disordered, which is bothered me a lot.

    It sounds that the Microsoft Installer does not like the optical drive inside of your Mac.
    Do you have access to an external DVD drive?
    If yes, try the Windows 7 install with an external DVD drive.
    If no, try to install Windows 7 from a USB drive.

  • How to set aspect ratio options for Image Dialog

    I have a requiment to create a new Aspect Ratio for image crop, besides the only default option of Free Crop
    I understand that there was some path where you could set this up in CRX, prior to 5.5, but that path doesn't exist in 5.5. The path was /libs/cq/packaging/components/pack/definition/dialog/items/tabs/item s/tab3/cropConfig
    I found this out from this forum question:http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575600#4575600
    Where in CQ5.5 Can I set these aspect ratios? I've queried the entire CRX for nodes of similar names as in this path, but cannot find it anywhere.
    Thanks guys!

    Hi,
    I have the same problem using CQ 5.6.1. I want to extend the default Ratios:
    I found out that this config is located under /libs/dam/gui/content/assets/crop/items/actionbarcontainer/items/default/items/aspectrati o/items.
    My question is were and how can I put an extension to these predefined ratios if I don't want to edit them under the libs node.
    Thanks, Andreas

    Hi,
    When using picking with perspective projection when the aspect ratio is different from 1:1 I get false results.
    Any idea how to fix it ?
    Thanks

    Following is the related code:

    prespective.perspective(hFov, Math.tan(hFov/2)/Math.tan(vFov/2), 1f, 30f);
    view.setProjectionPolicy(View.PERSPECTIVE_PROJECTION);
    view.setLeftProjection(prespective);

    Point3d mouse_pos = new Point3d();
    canvas.getCenterEyeInImagePlate(eye_pos);
    canvas.getPixelLocationInImagePlate(x, y, mouse_pos);
    Transform3D motion = new Transform3D();
    canvas.getImagePlateToVworld(motion);
    motion.transform(eye_pos);
    motion.transform(mouse_pos);

  • Keep aspect  ratio?

    Hi,
    I created custom component(polygon) in Flex Builder, compiled and added to my add-ons.
    I got my custom component on stage in Xcelsius.
    I would like to keep aspect ratio of my custom component during resizing?
    Please check Spreadsheet Table component. Spreadsheet table and resize handlers keeps aspect ratio during resizing.
    How can i accomplish this?
    My thoughts:
    I could do this by adding mouse down and mouse move event to stage area. When user starts resizing component(mouse down pressed, mouse move dispatched) I could just simply calculate and change component minWidth and minHeight.
    Can I add events to stage area? If yes what kind?

    I agree it would help productivity if there were a "sticky" setting on the crop selections.
    In the meantime (assuming Adobe will eventually change this) you can use Synchronize or Copy Settings to apply a crop ratio to multiple images.
    There are a couple minor glitches/bugs using this approach :
    After synching, the crop size on the toolbar shows "Custom" rather than the actual ratio you set. I think it should display the chosen ratio, as it does when you choose a setting from the list.
    If you copy/paste, the ratio improperly shows "Original", and the list also shows "Original" checked. But the crop frame tool on the image correctly shows the pasted crop ratio. I've found you have to go back to grid view and return to develop to set it properly. Confusing, at best.

  • How to call hr_location_api.create_location for different address style with only those fields that belongs specific to  that address style.

    How to call hr_location_api.create_location for different address style with only those fields that belongs specific to  that address style. It should decide at run time means at run time it will come to know the type of address style and based on that only the fields which belong to address details mapped to calling hr_location_api.create_location.
    Thanks in advance.

    You can create a wrapper package on top of the API (hr_location_api.create_location)
    In the wrapper package you set all the values dynamically based on your requirements(say the style and add_line columns are populated on your conditions) and then you call the API.
    Does that not work ?

  • How to obtain proper aspect ratios for sequences in Premiere Pro?

    I'm posting it here, because I use AE SDK for the effect.
    I've got a RED sequence in Premiere that is 2048x1152. The footage is 2816x2304 anamorphic 2:1. The sequence preview is 1920x1080, like any Premiere preset over HD. I can't seem to get the proper size and aspect ratio to resize the UI controls and position the effect.
    Normally I'd use this:
    scale_x *= (PF_FpShort) in_data->pixel_aspect_ratio.den / (PF_FpShort) in_data->pixel_aspect_ratio.num;
    scale_x *= (PF_FpShort) in_data->downsample_x.num / (PF_FpShort) in_data->downsample_x.den;
    scale_y *= (PF_FpShort) in_data->downsample_y.num / (PF_FpShort) in_data->downsample_y.den;
    But in this case it doesn't seem to work. Also standard procedures for UI resizing from SDK examples fail.
    How can I obtain the proper aspect ratio and sizes?
    Thanks in advance.

    Premiere Pro is not well designed for this type of collaborative work flow.  That's not to say something can't be made to work, just that it may not be as seamless as you'd like.
    For starters, there's no way to really 'merge' the changes made by two different people working on the same project, so one of the primary rules you'll have to implement is that only one person at a time can work on any given project, and you'll have to be in constant communication as to who is working on which project, with person A leaving it alone until person B gives the go-ahead.  At which point B will have to leave it alone until A gives the go-ahead.  If you don't do this, your changes will overwrite each other and you'll get nowhere.
    Second thing to be aware of is that clip markers are stored with the media, so while sending only the project file back and forth is fine for most things, it won't work with clip markers.  You'll also need to transfer whatever media files have the markers.  Given the relatively large size of media compared to project files, it may be best to simply forgo using clip makers.
    If the hard drive setup is not identical on both machines, you may have to relink the media with every swap of project files.

  • How do I trim a .WAV file in iMovie 09?  / Proper aspect ratio for iPhone

    Hi,
    I have a .WAV file that I want to use in my project but I need to trim off the first 1/4. How do I do the using iMovie 09?
    Also I shot all of this with an iPhone. Which aspect ratio should I choose... It will be played on a WideScreen TV.
    Thanks.

    I would use 16:9 for aspect ratio.

  • Aspect Ratio: How do I configure aspect ratio for a wider-pixel projector?

    Hi.. I have an HD72 connected to my MacMini (Core Duo); the resulting picture cast on the screen has pixels a bit wider than exected, so all the cute girlies look fat Seriously, if I display a square, it's a bit more of a rectangle, and I'm wondering where I can configure the Mac Mini to alter its resolution or its aspect ratio to comply. A Quicktime-only solution is fine, this doesn't bother me except when watching videos.

    Regardless of the display resolution, if your projector is displaying pixels in a slightly oblong fashion then its outside of the Mac's ability to compensate. The most the mac can do aspect ratio-wise, is to set a different number of pixels on the x and y axes, which would create a different screen aspect ratio, but wouldnt touch the pixel aspect ration. Perhaps the oblong pixels are the projector's way of stretching a too-narrow screen resolution to fit the area the projector is trying to cover. You should be able to change the output screen resolution to the projector in the displays system preference. Try several and see which one works best with the projector.

  • Wrong aspect ratio for imported widescreen videos

    When I import some videos (home made) they show up as the wrong aspect ratio. For example, the latest one is 1026x576 in the folder, which is correct, but shows up as 1456x576 which is too wide. How can I prevent this? Incidentally, I have checked the file in itunes folder using quicktime, and it is correctly sized at 1026 wide. Strangely, itunes thinks it's wider. Also, this is a problem I have found in previous versions of itunes. Phil

    Hi, it's very strange. When I get time I will try different settings on Handbrake to see if there is any improvement. However I have even had this problem when outputting from fce. It seems to be a bug in iTunes. At least I'm not alone in experiencing the problem. Regards Phil
