How to layer flash menu over flash slideshow?

Hello All!
I am working on developing a new website, and I have come upon a roadblock...
Is it possible to layer a flash object over another flash object? -- The website I am creating has a flash menu and a flash sllideshow.  I want the flash menu (submenu) to be able to appear IN FRONT OF the flash slideshow.  Here is the link with my progress:
http://nathanlafave.com/newsite/index2.html
You will notice that when you hover over "Web" in the navigation menu, the SUBMENU appears BEHIND the flash slideshow.
Any suggestions on making this appear IN FRONT OF the slideshow.
Both menu and slideshow are extensions purchased from flashdevelopment24.com
Thanks!

You have a couple of problems.
1) Flash slideshows typically rise to the top of everything else on the page.  Ideally, you should keep Flash animates away from drop-down or flyout menus of any type.
2) Flash is not supported by all web devices.  How will users without Flash navigate your site?
Almost anything you can do with Flash can be achieved with jQuery.  See examples below.

  • Unable to automatically install Flash 12 over Flash 11 via GPO Software Installation

    We have a GPO software installation to install Flash 12 to a group of Windows 7 64-bit workstations. It works fine on a system that has no previous version of Flash already installed, but when the workstation has Flash 11 installed, the installation fails with an error in the Windows application event viewer saying something referring to installation failed because the previous version of Flash could not be removed.
    If we log into the computer and manually uninstall Flash, then the Flash 12 GPO assigned to the computers works at the next reboot.  If we manually install Flash 12, by running the Flash installation file as the user, then 12 installs over 11.
    I have seen this kind of issue when someone tries to install and older version of flash over a newer version, but I don't think we should be having these problems installing the latest version of  Flash.
    We have to go to each PC and manually remove Flash 11 before we can install Flash 12 and it is too much time and labor to keep doing this.
    What can be done to fix this so that a GPO software installation of the Flash 12 MSI will forcefully replace older versions of Flash without being stopped by this error?

    Hi lord_knikon,
    I understand your frustration.  We've had several users report this, however, we've not been able to reproduce.  This happens with the online installer downloaded from get.adobe.com/flashplayer.  We've not seen this with the offline installers, posted at the bottom of this help page, http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html.  Please try using the offline installer and you should be able to get Flash Player installed on your system.

  • Drop Menu over Flash

    Hi
    I created a drop down menu bar in dreamweaver with CSS and
    layers, it works great on all pages except my home page where I
    have created a flash animation.
    www.glotosleep.com
    Would anyone know if there is a way to get the drop down
    layers to show on top of the Flash 8 animation? I tried putting the
    flash animation on a seperate layer and work with the "hide" and
    "show" behaviours but only succeeded in hiding the flash when the
    menu layer dropped.
    Thank you for your help.

    All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
    to speak,
    including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
    Active X controls.
    This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
    is not a good
    cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
    if you can be
    confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
    use the Flash
    wmode parameter.

  • Flash file over Flash file

    Using Dreamweaver CS3, I have created a slide show using
    Flash CS3. I want to have a flash button overlap just part of the
    flash side show.
    What happens is the button part that overlaps the flash slide
    show, is behind the slide show. And when I move the mouse over, it
    appears above the slide show but flckers.
    Once the slide show is over, the button works fine. It
    appears above the slide show when I hover over.
    Is there anyway for this to work?

    Why do you need a Flash button outside of the other Flash
    file? I would think that you should just put that button into the
    slideshow so that it shows on every frame and has the functionality
    you wish for it to have.

    Hi!
    I would like to create a DVD menu that offers two languages. So the first page gives two options: Language 1 and Language 2. Then depending on which language you choose, you go to a menu that proposes different videos and a photo slideshow.
    Regardless on which language button you click on initially, you get the same content but in different languages.
    I've been looking at Premiere's templates, which I can certainly customize, but I really don't see how to create the double menu. Does anybody have an idea?
    Put the video with the first language on the timeline followed by the video with the second language.  Use chapter markers so you can have each video as a chapter in the menu.
    I use Premiere Pro, so I can't give more specific directions. Perhaps somebody like ATR will chime in.
    Also, I have another question: can I put videos from different projects in the same DVD with Premiere or must all of the videos that go into the DVD be in the same project?
    Thank you very much!!!

    They must be in the same project.

  • How best to display a two column menu in Flash 8?

    I have a flash 8 template and i am using Macromedia Flash Professional 8. I want to create a menu in a scrollable text box, which has two columns exactly aligned like so:
    Lamb                                                   £2.30                       Chicken                                                      £2.30
    Minced lamb with onions, herbs,                                           Minced chicken with an mixture of
    in egg yolk and shallow fried.                                                green chillies cooked over a charcoal grill on
    Kebab                                                  £2.80                       Lamb                                                         £2.40
    A mix of chicken kebab, seekh kebab and                             Minced lamb mixed with gram flour, spices, green
    shami kebab.  Served on a sizzler.                                        chillies and herbs then deep fried.
    However, when i test the movie there is no formatting and the text is misaligned. I already have the above text (and there is alot of it) in the exact format, in a word file, so i could copy and paste the text instead of writing it out all over again.
    I have been advised that it is better to use the Datagrid component to display the above text in a table?
    My question is, how can i use the Datagrid component to display the text aligned exactly as above? Do i need to create html tables and then get the datagrid component to call this html file, xml file or actionscript? I am not familiar with xml or actionscript.
    Please can someone help?
    Thank you.

    Hi Ned. Apologies for late reply. Been away.
    Anyway, i have created an image of what it is i need. Please see the image below - menu.gif
    Not sure what the easiest way is to create such a two column menu in Flash because the tab key on the keyboard does not work in a scrollable textbox only the space bar. And using the space bar does not align the text correctly.
    However, i do have a html file which i created using html tables. Is there a way to import the html file into a scrollable textbox in flash? The raw html code example is a little different as i have included the borders, but the idea is the same - a two-column scrollable menu.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Flash menu in DW, how do I link the buttons?

    Hi there!
    I have a problem, i'm creating a site in dreamweaver with a
    lot of flash objects. For examlpe I'm making a flash menu, wich is
    the hole problem! I'm importing the flash file to the left frame in
    dreamweaver and i'm trying to link the buttons (on the menu) to ex.
    "home" or "about me", though it doesn't work! I can't link the
    buttons because they're in this flash object. I know i'm doing it
    wrong with trying to link the buttons on the flash object but I
    don't know what else to do. And the thing is that i don't wanna use
    the buttons already existing in DW, i've made my own ones. The
    buttons are moving so there is one more problem, they're coming in
    from the right side (in the left frame) and bounces once, and then
    they stop. And that's when I wan't them clickable. So how do I make
    the buttons linking to the pages??
    Would really appreciate an awnser!
    Thanks !

    Flash links are made in Flash, not DW.
    I trust these links are not important, as search engines
    can't see them

  • How can I make my Flash menu SEO Friendly?

    Hi all, I have my site at http://www.sgdtechs.com and I really don't like the ugly menu I have there now and I designed a beautiful menu in flash, but I've read online that it's not SEO friendly....
    So my question is this, how can I make my menu SEO friendly? Is it even possible?
    Thanks for your answers!

    Provide an html menu for SEO purposes.  If you want to keep the Flash version, consider providing the html at the bottom of the page as text links like you will see in many sites.

  • Need help with flash menu

    i have a drop-down flash menu and i would like it to be
    centered on my page. i use dreamweaver. when i put the code in, it
    automatically puts the flash menu to the left, and the drop-down
    submenus are layered (they will fall over any text that is
    underneath the menu).
    now, when i center the menu using a div align, the menu
    creates white space underneath it (the submenus can’t fall
    over any text – in other words, it deletes the layering).
    here is my code (i had to put spaces in so the code
    wouldn’t get messed up here). hopefully someone can tell me
    how to center my menu but keep the layering.
    this portion goes in the head section of the code:
    < script type=”text/javascript”
    src=”flashobject.js”>< /script>
    and this goes in the body:
    < div id=”color_id” >Flash Menu
    Placeholder.< /div>
    < script type=”text/javascript”>
    var fo = new
    FlashObject(“menu2.swf”,”color”,”879”,”76”,”6”,”#FFFFFF”
    fo.addParam(“menu”,”false” );
    fo.addParam(“quality”,”best” );
    fo.addParam(“salign”,”LT” );
    fo.addParam(“scale”,”noscale” );
    fo.addParam(“wmode”, “transparent” );
    fo.write(“color_id” );
    if (navigator.appName.indexOf(“Microsoft” )!= -1)
    document.color.style.position=”absolute”;
    document.color.style.zIndex=”10”;
    document.color.style.left=”0px”;
    document.color.style.top=”0px”;
    }else{
    document.getElementById(‘color’
    ).style.position=”absolute”;
    document.getElementById(‘color’
    ).style.zIndex=”10”;
    document.getElementById(‘color’
    ).style.left=”0px”;
    document.getElementById(‘color’
    ).style.top=”0px”;
    } < /script>

    no. what happens is this: the menu centers itself, but the
    drop down submenus do not layer over any text underneath the menu.
    instead, the menu creates white space underneath itself (the same
    height as the submenus), and then the text appears under the white
    space. i've tried in both firefox and ie and it works in neither
    browser. i'm stumped as to why this does not work!

  • Problem with Flash Menu in iWeb...need help please.

    Ok, I designed a flash menu in iWeb and successfully placed it at the top of the site. I then used the "transparent shape" method to make the hyperlinks work properly. I made sure the flash menu was in the back and the transparent shape hyperlinks were in the front. The menu works just fine for me and anyone else using Safari or Mac computers. However, people on Windows using Firefox, IE or Chrome are unsuccessful in clicking the links. They do not work for them.
    Here's my website's homepage link. Keep in mind, if you look there on Safari, it will work but it does not when on a Windows computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    http://www.platinumsportspicks.com/Index/Home/Home.html
    It is clearly the problem that the flash menu is opening in front of the hyperlinked shapes but I'm not sure how to make sure they stay on front.

    I don't know the answer to that one but you can use the Mouse Over and Click method I have described on this page....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Tricks/MouseOver.html
    It works in IE.
    Its just a question of making up two different buttons with text for each link, taking a screenshot and cropping them and adding the JPEGs to your upload folder.
    You can make up the buttons on an iWeb page and then delete them when you have taken the screenshots. I usually do this sort of thing in Keynote so that I can save them in case I need to modify them.

  • How to export from FCP to Flash .FLV ?

    Hello All;
    Could someone explain how I export a Final Cut Studio project to .FLV ? I read many places that it can be done but I do not have any such option (That I can find) on the FCP File menu or File Export menu.
    Currently, I'm exporting to Quicktime and then using the Flash Video Encoder that came bundled with Flash but I am not getting very good quality and I'm wasting a lot of time trying it over and over again.
    Thanks.

    Then theoretically access to this FLV export option should be visible in other areas where you would perform a QuickTime Export.
    In FCP, for example, you could go to the menu: File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion:
    Once clicked, an additional panel is going to appear. At the bottom of said panel will be a toggle that says "Format". By clicking this button you will reveal the other options available to you. With the Flash component installed you should have access to an option: "Flash Video (FLV)":
    Once you've selected this you can then click the "Options" button and this will open a final panel where you can adjust all the parameters of the exported movie. Should look like this:
    That is one way to do it.
    Another way to do all this would be to build a Compressor preset. All the above export options, if available in FCP, are going to be available to Compressor as well. You could set up a preset and save it in Compressor, or even save it out as a droplet that you can drop exported movies onto. Simply dropping onto a droplet triggers the FLV encode.
    One final "workaround" would be to export to H.264 and then change the resulting movies extension from .mov to .flv. This will cause it to open in Flash, usually. Flash Player 9 Update 3, released on December 3, 2007 allowed for the playback of H.264 with Flash. So as long as the end-user has this version of Flash, or newer, on their end—then playback should not be an issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • Flash menu problems

    Hi all,
    I've made a menu in Flash 8 using invisible buttons to go to
    different frames of the .swf, depending on mouse over and mouse
    release. My as coding is very simple:
    buttonname.onRollOver = function(){
    if (_currentframe = 1){
    gotoAndStop (2)}
    The file loads just fine onto frame 1, but when I roll the
    mouse over a button, doesn't matter which one, the file goes to
    frame 25 out of 30 and stays there. When I click on one of the
    buttons it goes to the proper frame, but as soon as I roll my mouse
    off of that button it returns to frame 25. Any suggestions? (or any
    way I could make this whole thing easier on myself?)
    Thank you in advance.

    you have different button instances on frames 25 and 1. they
    may look the same and they may have the same instance name, but
    they're not the same.
    to remedy, put the button on its own layer in frame 1. then
    extend that layers timeline to frame 25. if you need to change the
    frame 25 button's appearance and you want to do that using the
    authoring tools, create a keyframe at frame 25 and edit your
    button.

    I've created a drop down menu in flash using this
    instructional tool:
    Everything looks great but now I need to get it into my
    dreamweaver page. It needs to be inserted into a long, horizontal
    bar which will contain other drop down menu buttons just like it.
    When someone rolls over any of the drop downs, the actual drop down
    area of the flash file needs to lay over the content that is below
    the horizontal bar.
    I don't know how to do this. All I know how to do is import a
    flash file into dreamweaver somewhere on a page, which just pushes
    everything down, instead just showing the main button area of the
    flash file, with the drop down section of the flash file laying
    over the content on the dreamweaver page... not shifting it.
    I'm not the best at explaining these things so I hope someone
    understands and has some help!

    Please post a link to your problem page

  • Flash Buttons- "Over" option not overlapping other buttons

    Hi,
    How do you make the "over" for buttons universally appear on top? When I made 4 flash buttons side by side, i am wanting to make it so that when you hover over one of the buttons a rectangle expands to show a description of that button- this rectangle should be large enough to cover over the other three buttons but for some reason the other buttons are still visible over the rectangle. I have made it so the top button layer is at the top and then the 2nd button underneath that so on...however when i hover over the 2nd button, the rectangle description box doesn't cover over the first button. How would I be able to make it so that the "over" rectangles are always covering all three other buttons?
    as you can see below, this is when i hover over the second button, the rectangle isnt able to cover the first button.
    Please is there a solution to this? I am wanting it to work very much like when you hover over icons similar to rollover for websites.
    I appreciate anyone that can help.

    Yes for some reason in AS2 you can't use swapDepths() directly with Buttons—however most of us don't use buttons because they are so twitchy and weird.
    If you do want to use real buttons and you do want to swap their depths you can use this code:
    Button.prototype.swapDepths = MovieClip.prototype.swapDepths;
    You just need that once at the beginning of your code. It tells Flash that Buttons know what MovieClips know about swaping depths. I've used it in a few tests, but in general I don't use buttons. Instead I use MovieClips.
