How to make a good quality 8 Giga DVD out of a Project in AVI of 14 Gigas?

I have a film in a proyect made with a miniDV camera in my old Premiere 6.5
It has 68 minutes and after exporting it with the Microsoft DV AVI compressor in 100 % quality and not compressing the audio, it  ended in an AVI of 14 Gigas.
I would like to obtain a DVD of the best quality in audio and video possible. How can I do it?  SHOULD I EXPORT IT FROM THE PREMIERE 6.5 WITH ANOTHER COMPRESSOR OR IN LESS THAN 100% QUALITY WITH THE SAME DV AVI COMPRESSOR ? my INTENTION IS TO USE THE NERO VISION AFTERWARDS... I HAVE THE NERO VISION 4...-. FROM 2007- WOULD IT BE OK OR IS THERE A BETTER ONE? - I know there are newer ones...but better?
OR SHOULD I JUST USE THE ACTUAL 14 GIGA AVI PROJECT AND PUT IT STRAIGHT INTO THE NERO ?   I GUESS THIS NERO COMPRESSION SHOULD BE WORST THAN THE ONE THAT THE PREMIERE WOULD MAKE...
Thanks a lot for all the help and advise you could give me !!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS IF IT IS A PROBLEM TO MAKE A GOOD QUALITY 8 GIGA DVD I COULD JUST MAKE A 4  GIGA ONE...

68 minutes DV should fit just nice on a single dvd.
Feed the DV file directly into Nero. Nero will transcode everything for you.
You can also use AME from Premiere 6.5 and export the timeline direct to mpeg2-dvd.
Unfortunately i do not know if Nero is going to re-transcode this mpeg file before burning to dvd.

I HAVE POSTED THIS A FEW DAYS AGO. THANKS TO THE PEOPLE THAT REPIED. BUT I THINK MY QUESTION IS NOTFULLY ANSWERED YET.
i NEED THE BEST QUALITY I CAN GET, EVEN WHITH MY PREMIERE 6.5, BECAUSE IT IS A FEATURE FILM THAT TOOK ME SEVERAL YEARS AND THIS LAST REMAKE IS NOW READY AFTER TOO MUCH WORK.
    THANKS A LOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Thanks for your replys and sorry for being so fussy about this.
I have now seen that one of the options for exporting from Premiere 6.5 is Adobe MPEG encoder. So Do you guys think it would be a good idea to do it with that, Or Would it be better AVI or DV AVI compressor from Premiere before making the DVD?
I have the Nero Vision 4.9.6.6  But I may be able to look for another one if you think it is better...
Thanks a lot for your advises...

  • Pro Res in Final cut express How do i get a good quality SD DVD

I recently bought final cut express and have suffered getting a good quality SD DVD out through the workflow from my cannon XHA1.
On screen its fine but when i author through imovie to DVD the quality is poor.
So reading the various threads it would seem that i need to use Pro res and the ingress codec... But cant find this option in express ?
Question is. Is pro res codec available in express and if not can someone suggest the optimum set up for HD capture to SD DVD output
    Many thanks

Use either of these techniques to get good quality DVDs from AIC.
    1. Edit your HDV/AIC in the timeline. Then create a new DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic sequence. Copy your edited HDV/AIC to the new sequence. Do not alter anything. Render the sequence ..... this will take a long time - up to twice the length of the project. Then File>Export>QuickTime Movie (Not Self-contained).
However, if you use the QT Movie in iDVD you will get a squashed 4:3 movie, so first of all you must make QT stretch it out to its proper 16:9 dimensions like this:-
+a. Open the exported movie file in the QT Pro player.+
    +b. Go to Window>Show Movie Properties.+
+c. Select the "Video Track" and in the "Visual Settings" panel uncheck "Preserve Aspect Ratio".+
+d. In the "Scaled Size" box set the width to 1024 pixels for PAL.+
+e. The "Video Track" will have turned grey, so click it to make it blue again.+
+f. The opened movie file will jump to 16:9.+
+g. Close it with the red button and click Save.+
    2. This method is fast. Set your camera to "Locked DV" which means that FCE/FCP will capture it as anamorphic DV and edit it as standard definition anamorphic DV. (Use Easy Setup ... DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic).
You can then Export>QuickTime Movie to be used in iDVD and use the stretching technique mentioned above.

I don't know about NTSC but there is a nice PAL solution for SD 16:9 for ordinary DVDs. The 16:9 image becomes 720x576 pixels. So the pixels are each quite wide, and the horizontal resolution is less than the vertical resolution, but at least no pixels are wasted as with letterbox.
A semi-solution is to make a HD-DVD. That format has been abandoned but Apple software pretends otherwise. Apple Compressor does compressions at around 20 Megabits/second data rate specifically for HD-DVD, and Apple DVD Studio Pro makes HD-DVDs. For short projects, less than around 30 minutes, the HD-DVD can be made on a normal DVD. (I did this for a 40 minute project by cutting the bitrate somewhat.) The quality is almost equal to Blu-Ray, but who can play it? People with well equipped Apples can.

  • How can i improve burning quality of dvd.looks fine in preview on idvd, but final burn quality is poor/

how can i improve burning quality of dvd.looks fine in preview on idvd, but final burn quality is poor.

Had same problem with iPhoto pictures and poor burn quality. Went back to original picture file and dragged images into idvd project from there. Set encoding at professional quality and burned at slowest speed. Got very good result with high quality slideshow when played on TV.
Also tried Old Toad's Aug 30, 2011 advice to get a slideshow into iDVD with transitions, music, etc. from iPhoto.
Again the quaility of the burned CD was very good.

  • How can I get HD quality on DVD

OK, how can I get HD quality on DVD like I can for youtube?   I use mpeg2 or H.264 for my youtube videos and they look fantastic on there.  I use the NTSC widescreen for my DVD's and they look like crap compared to my youtube videos. I even notice that my video ends are cut off a bit compared to my youtube videos.  It's like it is burning the dvd's in standard instead of HD.  I have a canon HF200 HD camcorder.   Is there a way to get that same quality on DVD?  keep it simple for me.  I'm using PE7
    Thanks

Do you mean that you wish to Burn BD material to a DVD disc, or something else?
DVD is, by definition, SD material, and was designed to be viewed on a CRT TV. It is not HD, and that is what BD is all about. You cannot alter the DVD-specs., as they are written in stone. However, one can do things with a blank DVD disc. What they do, depends on what one needs.
Please let us know exactly what you want to do, and we can give you tips.
    Good luck,

Browser variation is something we must all deal with.  For best results, begin projects with a clear idea of what type of layout you need (1-column, 2-column, 3-column or Multi-column grid).  Then get a CSS Layout that meets your requirements.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • HOW TO MAKE A HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DVD WITH PREMIERE CS2

I have been working with my CS2 Premiere to create some auto play high definition, audio-only DVDs that are autoplay.  To clear the air, yes I know that CS4 will permit 24bit-96 kHz.  For the time being 16 bit-48 kHz, is still better (marginally) than CD, but it permits greater playing times.  Yes, I know that the autoplay without menues "feature" is bogus, and was never corrected by Adobe.  So much for their interest in their customers.
I found a simple workaround for the autoplay/no menues feature.  Just make a DVD-RW with menues.  Then use DVD-DeCryper/Shrink/Nero - whatever to make an autoplay DVD onto a permanent disc.  It works well.
Here is my latest crazy problem: How to get really long playing time.  I know I can make high qualitye DVD-A's up to 3 hours using Minatonka Bronze.  Unfortunately, DVD-A discs are worthless as they cannot play in 90% of DVD players, but they prove the time point.
I have three 48 kHz files that I created in Adobe Audion.  The were 1.599, 0.911, and 0.974 GBs in size.  That added up to 3.480.  The playing time is about 2:30 Hours; quite a bit less than 3 hours.   I tried burning a DVD with these, audio-files-only.  I checked lowest quality video, used no video, and got an Export To DVD error that I had "insufficient" space on the 4.7 GB disc!  So, I used the two latter files, which added to only 1.884 GB.  Premiere did not baulk, and it successfully burned a DVD that played.  Then I added the 1.599 GB file, and, once again, it produced an error.  This was clearly not going to work.
At this point, I realized that Audition had done what it liked to do: It had saved the 16 bit-48 kHz files as 32 bit-48 kHz!  So, I went back to Audition and used EDIT to change the files to genuine 16 bit-48 kHz files.  When I opened them in Premiere, Premiere reported 16 bit-48 kHz files.  Their sizes were now, 0.799, 0.456, and 0.487 GB.  Please note that this totals 1.742 GB.  This is less than the 1.884 GB I had successfully used before.   Once again, I was getting the "inssufficient" space error.  This is nuts.  The disc can hold 4.3+ GB, but won't fit 1.742.GB.
    So, anybody got some ideas?
    Mike

    Jim,
I cannot believe you are wasting my time and the space of this forum with your irrelevances.  It would have been better had you just tried to answer my question, which is the purpose of these forums.  Why engage in useless chatter?
I said nothing about any great sonic difference betweein 16/48 and 16/44 digital audio; I said "marginally."   In English that means very little difference.  I'm not going to prove to you with distortion and frequency response plots that there is some minor difference, it is a fact of life.  You, in fact, just stated a difference.  The difference between a 24 kHz cutoff and a 22 kHz custoff  is a difference which you give, to back up your absurd statement that there is no difference.  This can actually translate to a minor, difference in THD at higher audio frequencies, but who cares?   Well, you apparently care, because your beligerant non-reply to my question was that "fewer...would notice ."  In English that means that some would notice.
What my question had to do with MP3 junk, or multichannel sound, I don't know.  Why should I do, as you suggest, and make DVD-A's when one needs only stereo?  This is a Premier forum, not a DVD-A forum.  Why not bother DVD-A junkies on Minatonka fourms?  DVDs can handle stereo PCM very nicely.  Classic Audio has marketed their 24/96 DADs for many years and so have a few other companies.   They have been well received by some "golden eared" types.  I hope they don't upset you.  There is a good possibility that DVD may only be around as a "legacy" feature on BLU RAY in future years.  DVD-A was DOA years ago and SACD may go just away; DVD-A is almost that.  So, PCM stereo sound DVD's are a good bet that the resultant disc will be playable on many people's players as well as future players.  The longer playing time that may be available would make listening to concerts easier, rather than breaking them up into segments.
If you want to argue my motives, or tastes, I suggest you go to another forum and discuss you theories.  If you actually have something productive to say about the problem I pointed out, that would be welcome.
    Mike

  • How to make a good menu!!!

    Hi!!!
How can I make a good menu that it executes at runtime? Also this menu has to read a .txt file, which has the user permissions to display the menu according the connect user.
I try to do with javascript, but I don't know to read a file.txt with javascript and to give the parameters to the .java of the page.I have read a lot of manuals of studio creator and javascript and I don't read anything to do this.
I also see that some people do these menus in jsp, but the studio creators jsp code view is in XML, and the tutorial and examples of jsp are in pure jsp with html, so I can't use in studio creator.
    Thankssss

I've read about the destruction due to sweat and have been careful where I put the iPod. I'm in the humid deep south, so I have a real concern.
I took it out on a run during a rainstorm on Jan 1, but didn't use the earphones. It only came along so it could record Nike+ data, and it was inside a baggie so it had a better chance of staying dry. It did fine.
My concerns are keeping moisture out of the data port and the headphone jack. Since I've got the Nike+ dongle, it's more difficult for moisture to get in there.
I've only had it in mild weather, minus rain. If it's fair weather, it clips to the front of my shorts off to the side, where I've seen that I tend not to drench my shirt with sweat. I thought of using a wrist strap, but there's been too many times where I've had sweat dripping off my wrists/palms.
Of course, this is way off topic, but I thought I'd give you my opinion.

  • How to make a good clone of a Mirror RAID setup?

I have a Mac Mini Server running OS X Server (currently 10.6.8 but I'm in the process of upgrading to 10.8). The 2x500GB disk setup has been turned into two RAID-1 volumes: 400GB for OS X Server (disk2 = disk0s2 and disk0s1) and 100GB for a case sensitive volume that is mounted on /usr/local and which does not play a role in this story. I have a 400GB partition (/dev/disk4s2) on an external disk ready to receive the clone.
I want to make a good copy of the OS X Server disk. I was looking at several options:
dd - When running dd if=/dev/disk0s2 of=/dev/disk4s2, I can calculate that it will take 13 hours. Part of the reason for slow operation: both /disk4s2 and the boot disk for this operation are on the same external FW800 disk. dd if=/dev/disk2 of=/dev/disk4s2 is even slower.
ddrescue - interestingly tells me it needs to copy 9223 PBytes. I don't trust that so much so I stopped
Disk Utility - Select the / volume inside its RAID-1 entry and 'restore' it to a volume created by DU on /dev/disk4s2 (says it will do it in 2 hours, so is now running)
Disk Utility, create a read-only DMG on a volume on the partition reserved for it.
Use CCC (mainly rsync based) or SD commercial tools which operate on the file system level
I'm using the first DU option as that should give me a bootable setup in case of emergency. Did I miss a good option?

CCC would also give you a bootable copy and is the mothod I usually use, however I have also used the Disk Utility 'restore' method as well.
