How to overwrite a log and bad file in external table in oracle 10g

Hi,
I have used external table in oracle 10g.whenever use select query in external table orace internally create one log file in specified directory,
but this log file is growing.How can i overwrite the log file(old to replace with new).I need overwrite a log and bad file in external table.
kindly give the solutions.

I don't believe that is possible with the LOGFILE clause, but it may be with the BADFILE clause. Here is an excerpt from the documentation :
The LOGFILE clause names the file that contains messages generated by the external tables utility while it was accessing data in the datafile. If a log file already exists by the same name, the access driver reopens that log file and appends new log information to the end. This is different from bad files and discard files, which overwrite any existing file. NOLOGFILE is used to prevent creation of a log file.
If you specify LOGFILE, you must specify a filename or you will receive an error.
If neither LOGFILE nor NOLOGFILE is specified, the default is to create a log file. The name of the file will be the table name followed by _%p and it will have an extension of .log.

I'm having a problem accessing an external table in an Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 server environment. The disk is remote (mapped) to the server. It's the usual access errors, kup-04001 or kup-04063.
I have the [seemingly] exact same setup in an Oracle 9i and Windows 2000 server environment which works perfectly. Services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.
In the Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 environment, services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the mapped disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.
This obviously effects mappings, deployments, etc.
Does anyone know if something changed in either the db or the os?

Your proposal is the standard solution. As a matter of fact, that's how it is on my "old" system. Server "A" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM. Server "B" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM and is where the flat files reside. SYSTEM has full permissions on a disk local to Server "B". Database directoriies defined on Server "A" point to Server "B" remote disk. External Tables on Server "A" are defined with directories that point to Server "B" remote (mapped) disk. I have no problems with this configuration.
I'm having a problem acheiving the same configuration with Oracle 10g and Windows 2003. I guess I'm baffled over the fact it isn't working the same way as my "old" environment. Why shouldn't it? Oracle (and you) want me to start services as a specific user. It shouldn't have to be that way unless something changed in the way the database makes calls to the os or if Microsoft slipped something in with one of it's numerous security patches.

Using Sym Links for .dbf, .log, and .ctl files? Will this work in 10g?

We have an old database server we use for testing/development and it's running very low on diskspace on one of the filesystems on the box. At this point in time, adding space is not a simple option for several reasons. However, there are several other data partitions on this server with plenty of space available.
I read a paper published by Sun Microsystems that advocates the use of symbolic links for dbf, ctl, and log files:

Are there any drawbacks/caveats we need to be aware of, or is this really as simple as just stopping the db, moving a few files to another fs, symlinking their locations, and restarting the db?

Server.log and access file previous record are overwrite

Hi,
I am having problem that my server.log and access file in all instance have been overwrite by latest record. Suppose all the system.out.print will append to the server.log. However, my problem is the log which has been written to server.log in earlier time (mayb morning till afternoon) is replaced. From the server.log, I am only able to view the log which start from 11 pm. The same case happen to access file as well. This incident is not happen everyday but sometimes.
I am wondering what is happen and how i can solve the problem.
Any help/guidance is highly appreaciate.

How to get Log and Output File Names for a concurrent request

You can query the Fnd_Concurrent_Requests table using Request_ID, which has the log & out file directory details.

We have just implemented ESS-MSS, we have around 25000 people using this service and every 2 days my logs and trace file in server gets full and portal gets down.

You can control what messages gets logged depending on the severity.
This can be configured using Log Configurator, check this how you can set severity to different locations.

Timestamp in Java log and trace files.

Running PI 7.11 on AIX 6.3 we face an issue with the content of log and trace files from Java.
Eg.
The file DefaultTrace_00.0.trc is timestamped 18-05-10 11:16:15. (The same time as the time of the OS/AIX)
Looking inside the file the last statement is timestamped 2010 05 18 09:16:15.
How can we ensure that the content of these Java files are timestamped with OS time?
Looking into ABAP files like dev_w0 the timestamp of the file and the content are equal.

Basic question on log and temp files

I need to create a new database in this way:
- 2 GB for the data file
- 1 GB for log and temp files
This is the command I'm issuing to create the db:
create tablespace xyz datafile '<path>\xyz.dbf' size 2000M reuse;
How can I say the size of log and temp files?

Hi Friend.
You can eliminate all the files ".TRC" (trace files) to purify the directory BDUMP. These are not necessary files in order that the Oracle Server works.
The file Alert.log is a file that the Oracle Server can recreate if you eliminate it. When Oracle Server's process realizes certain action (for example ARCH), Oracle creates again the file (if it does not exist), or it adds text (if it exists) with the new income.
It can happen, that appears some Bug if the file Alert.log does not exist. Though this is slightly possible.
Anyhow I recommend to you in UNIX to use from the prompt: $> filename in order to take the size of the file to 0 bytes, without need to eliminate it. Is the same thing when you want to purify the listener.log, the sqlnet.log or the sbtio.log.

Hi -
You choose which disk will be the target disk for your video ingest video by designating it in the Scratch Disk pane.
Choose menu Final Cut Pro > System Settings and select the Scratch Disk tab.
Set the external drive, selecting Video capture, Audio Capture ( and the appropriate render selections, if you want your render files to end up their too). Deselect those settings from your internal disk.
Click OK, and you will be Log and Transferring to your external disc.

Summary - ALM - UFT integration, how we can upload logs and screenshots at ALM while UFT execution.
1) ALM And UFT both are inetgrated successfully, all resource files(datatable,fucntion library,OR etc) are already saved in ALM. Test scripts are running and getting passed without any issue.
2) But our requirement is little more - we want to attach screnshots with test scripts with each run at while execution.
and second thing is logs , we want logs to be generated at run time and gets attached with every run
please find attach screenshots , it is to show attchment and logs for each run,
Will it require expertise in OTA(open test architecture).
please suggest any path forward or any clue which can lead to proper solution.
