How to permanently kill a DBMS_JOB

... prior to that 16 failures.
I have two jobs that I want to permanently kill.
I have set them to BROKEN.
I have set job_queue_processes = 0;
I have killed off all sessions related to these jobs.
As soon as I reset job_queue_processes back > 0 (to 10), the old processes restart (with their old session id's) and then the job is set to UNbroken!
How do I totally get rid of these jobs, withot having to wait out the 16 failures .
Also, do DBMS_SCHEDULER jobs follow this same 16x failure behavior if the job fails ?
These re unexpected failures due ot resource problems - it is NOT ok to just let them run, they will hang the system (again) and fail gain.
Thank you,
Karen

Hi,
I am not sure why this is happening.
If you really want to get rid of the job, maybe you need to use dbms_job.remove .
I can also confirm that this does not happen in dbms_scheduler. Once a job is disabled using dbms_scheduler.disable it will not run until it is re-enabled.
A dbms_scheduler job will be retried only if the restartable attribute is set to TRUE for a job (by default it is false). If you set restartable to be true then a failing job will restart after 1,10,100,1000,10000,100000 seconds before failing that run (or just go to the next regularly scheduled date if that comes first).
In dbms_scheduler you can use stop_job to stop the job either gracefully or forcefully.
All of these are reasons to switch to using dbms_scheduler if you are using 10g or above (and there are several others besides).
Hope this helps,
Ravi.

    I mistakenly asked iTunes to download a TV series and I can't get it to stop trying to download it.   how do I kill the download?

    You've got to be freakin' kidding me. I'm in Brazil, I accidentally started a 2.2GB download that it says will take 592 minutes to download, and there's no way I can stop it and download something else until that first download finishes? I would have thought it was unthinkable 15 years ago that anyone would build an app that downloads things but doesn't allow the option of canceling the download, but in this day and age? So much for Apple making intuitive, user-friendly products.

  • How to permanently disable this message: "Press Esc to exit full screen." (by Adobe Flash Player) in Mac's Safari Browser?

    Hello everyone,
    I have been searching for sometime (without any success) for a solution to permanently remove this annoying message: "Press Esc to exit full screen."
    Whenever I go to full screen mode, watching any video on YouTube, BBC, CNN (or many other websites which use Adobe Flash Player for streaming video) I have to bare seeing this message for several seconds until it fades away. Seeing this message once or twice would have been okay, but as we all watch many videos on a daily basis on internet, after weeks, months and now years seeing this message over and over again many times every day, it becomes very annoying, and I find myself rewinding many videos to their beginning after this message fades away to be able to watch it from the beginning without anything obstructing it!
    Does anyone know how to "permanently" disable this message from appearing?
    I am using the latest version of Safari 6.0 on the latest version of OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8.1), and have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Plug-in version 11.4.402.265) installed on my new MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display.
    Thanks,

    Thanks Carolyn,
    I am attaching a screenshot here for you to see that this setting was already set to what you suggested. I didn't need to change it as it was like this even before I post this message.
    So the problem still presists and unfortunately your suggestion is not a solution to this probelm.
    Last night I did more reseach and found a discussion in Adobe website, it seems a lot of other people have the same issue, and even started a discussion in Adobe website about it. But unfortunately Adobe refuses to address it and enable the end user at least to have an option to turn this message off from displaying permanently on his/her computer.
    I am writing down the url links for the two posts regarding this issue on Adobe's website:
    Link #1: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/921270
    Link #2: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3058752
    Hopefully more people will get involved and ultimately we will either get Adobe's attention, or someone will find a "hack" and post it here for all of us. I have found some suggested "hacks" for Windows environment (you can simply google it, I am sure you will find them too). But so far I haven't seen anything for Mac's Safari browser.

    There is a world of information in these forums if you use the search function near the top right of this page. Just type in NAS for example and you get many threads on the subject (marked with a green checkmark if it solved the question) another example would be Airport Exterme and sound system. Once you formulate your ideas better then specific questions can be addressed one at a time. You may find that a less expensive choice for a server might be a mac mini. Good luck with your project, ask more specific questions and update you systems profile.

    That happens if the server sends the file as text/plain.
    You can see this if you open "Tools > Page Info > General": Content-Type: text/plain
    Files send this way will always open in a tab.

    Sorry, but you must Command + for every page. It's not permanent.

  • HT5544 How to permanently delete unwanted books on iBooks?

    How to permanently delete unwanted books on iBooks?

    Well, it is possible to delete it permanently.
    At first I should notice the problem is that, when you delete a book from ibook in mac the notification which comes up tells that the book would remain in icloud so you have to delete it from icloud.
    To do this, open itunes, click on itunes store link on top right, now your your apple id should be show up on top left side, now click on books link next to app store on top, this full page is apple bookstore, on the right bar under "books quick links" you would see "purchased", click on it.
    THESE ARE ALL THE BOOKS YOU HAVE BOUGHT. IF YOU SLIDE OVER EACH OF THEM YOU WOULD SEE A "X" SIGN ON TOP LEFT SIDE OF EACH COVER CLICK ON IT, BY DOING SO YOU WOULD DELETE THE BOOK FOREVER FROM ICLOUD IN YOUR APPLE ACCOUNT.
    BY NOW IF YOU DELETE THE BOOK FROM YOUR IBOOKS APP IN YOUR MAC, IT WOULDN'T TELL YOU THAT IT WOULD BE STORED IN ICLOUD.
    YOU'VE DELETED THE BOOK FROM YOUR MAC AND YOUR ICLOUD APPLE ACCOUNT. AND YOU WOULDN'T SEE IT ANYMORE.
    YOUR DONE.
    HAVE FUN.

  • How to permanently disable local TimeMachine backups?

    Hi,
    I have disabled the local TimeMachine using:
      sudo tmutil disablelocal
    That all works fine but after a reboot, the local backups are back again. For some reason this setting doesn't survives a reboot.
    Can nayone give me some advise on how to permanently disable local TimeMachine backups?
    Dennis

    Here's how I permanently disable TM local snapshots:
    1. create  ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.wfiveash.disable_tmlsnaps.plist containing:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
        <key>Label</key>
        <string>com.wfiveash.disable_tmlsnaps</string>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>/Users/willf/bin/disable_tmlsnaps.ksh</string>
        </array>
        <key>WatchPaths</key>
        <array>
            <string>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist</string>
        </array>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    2. create a shell script ~/bin/disable_tmlsnaps.ksh:
    #!/bin/ksh -p
    # This script is supposed to be run via launchd (see
    # ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.wfiveash.disable_tmlsnaps.plist) when launchd
    # detects a change to the TimeMachine.plist file.  This script will determine
    # if TM local snapshots has been enabled via the MobileBackups property and if
    # it has it will run the setuid disable_tmlsnaps binary.
    # prevent launchd throttling respawn warning, must wait 10s before this script exits
    sleep 10
    integer lsnaps=-1
    lsnaps=$(defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist MobileBackups)
    if [[ $lsnaps -eq 1 ]]
    then
        exec "${HOME}/bin/i386/disable_tmlsnaps"
    elif [[ $lsnaps -eq -1 ]]
    then
        # there was an error running defaults
        exit 1
    else
        exit 0
    fi
    3. Lastly compiled this C program and named it ~/bin/i386/disable_tmlsnaps.  I set the permissions so it was owned by root and setuid:
    * To build: gcc -o disable_tmlsnaps disable_tmlsnaps.c
    * sudo chown root:wheel disable_tmlsnaps
    * sudo chmod u+s disable_tmlsnaps
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    #include <sys/types.h>
    #include <unistd.h>
    int
    main (int argc, char *argv[])
        int rc;
        rc = setuid(0);
        if (rc == 0)
            rc = system("/usr/bin/tmutil disablelocal");
        return rc;
    =================================================================
    Now when /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist is modified (which happens when TM is enabled or disabled) launched will run my disable_tmlsnaps.ksh script which will check to see if it needs to disable TM local snapshots.

    Hello
    I have developed an interactive form, my_form. And we launch / render this my_form in (ERP / SAP) application's portal IE browser, well.
    Say, user opened this form, worked on it, submitted (we have our own submit button) and closed the window by clicking the top right corner's X button, but user is seeing stll the red Reader icon on the bottom bar, even thought the user is closed the window completely
    If user try to close this reader red reader icon explicitly, user is getting the other exception popup as Runtime error as described here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/391738
    Hence, am thinking to KILL the reader session right away the moment user closes the window, pls. let me know,
    1) How can i KILL the reader session via JavaScript, is it possible?
    2) if so, what the JS code i need to put and
    3) in which event pls.?

    How to permanently fix a 'White Screen" after resetting and restoring? 2nd generation ipod

    There are two different resets. The reset you did involved holding the sleep/wake & home button.
    The other reset will do exactly what it says. That reset is located in Settings - General - Reset.

    On this new ios7 update how do I kill apps running in the background now? I used to be able to double tap the home button

    Double tap the home button.  Slide the preview window upward.  You can do 2 at a time.
    It's rarely useful or necessary to do this. Very few apps actually "run in the background" (such as audio streaming and navigation apps).  The vast majority are frozen and consume no resources.  The iOS manages memory for you to optimize running apps.

  • How to drop/kill/end a MeetMe conference

    Hi,
    We have an issue that a MeetMe conference call has been opened and apparently has not been closed by one last participant.
    Unfortunately we do not know who it is and the participant also apparently is not aware that the line is still open. So how do we kill it?
    I've googled and searched the support community and came to the conclusion that it's not possible to kill it like you could kill it in an adhoc conference. There's a whole lot of links and docs and situations that are being referred too but no where a simple answer as to what I can do to kill this MeetMe session. So, what can I do?  Do I need to reboot the callmanager cluster, or can I kill it by disabling/enabling a service, or maybe deleting the MeetMe number and creating it again? Anyone has a simple answer?
    A second les important question I have is, is there a way to see who the active/current participants are in a MeetMe?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,

    Restart the IPVMS, and no, the list functionality for conferences only works with ad-hoc
