I have a Linksys AM300 Modem and a Linksys WRT610N router.
I want to forward ports for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and STEAM.
How do I port forward when I have 2 devices and how can I test that it is working?

I would recommend that you reconfigure your AM300 into bridge mode. In bridge mode it operates like a standard modem would do. Then reconfigure the WRT610N for your internet connection, i.e. most likely PPPoE. Now the WRT has a direct connection into the internet. Now you only need to configure port forwarding on the WRT610N.

How do I know if "interface ethernet 0" and "interface serial 0" will work for me?

the router is already setup and working for 2 years. all i need to do add a simple port forward from public ip to internal server. Following make sense to accomplish what i m trying to do. Lets assume 1.2.3.4 is my office public static ip and 192.168.0.10 is my internal server. All requests will come from some Ip lets say 25.24.23.22:1723 to 1.2.3.4:1723 and router will forward this request to 192.168.0.10:1723. This is all i m trying to accomplish. I m not setting up a new router. Some rules are already there. Therefore below seem to be what i need. All I need is how to identify "interface ethernet 0" & "interface serial 0". I understand the inside and outside details. All i have to find is how to replace ethernet 0 and serial 0 with what i have in my router setup.

Port forwarding with airport & external router

Hi,
I'm happy with port forwarding normally, but I've just made my network entirely wireless and can't figure out the answer to this problem. I have a non wired netgear router as my internet access point, an airport express is connected to this getting its address via DHCP, another airport is joined to this network, and 2 macs are connected to the airports again getting addresses via DHCP. How do I port forward to the macs using this setup? I can't figure it out. Obviously I'll need to configure manually, but if I open the port on my router and open the same port on the AX will they go throught to the mac ok. Do I map the router to forward to the AX manual IP then map the AX to a specific mac IP? Any tips appreciated before I go ahead and break my network

Ok, here are my thoughts. Have you tried assigning static IPs via DHCP, not manual config, based on client MAC addresses? Meaning when the router sees an ethernet MAC address it always assigns the same IP to that machine. This should enable the handing out of IPs while retaining port forwarding to the same machine each time and still preserve the routing that DHCP seems to enable more betterer . I'm not familiar with the netgear setup and I couldn't get my AX performing satisfactorily for my needs either so I have returned it however this is a 'somewhat' common option when setting up DHCP on different routers and I have found it works better when daisy chaining through routers.

How to port forward with AirPort Extreme

I really just cant find an accurate description in the support community. Err, let me rephrase: I'm not tech-savvy enough to really comprehend all aspects of port forwarding within the AirPort utility.
I am trying to set up a server for a game (Starbound) and I have been trying for hours to open 1 port. I believe it connects through TCP on port 20125.
I cant seem to figure out which IP address the utility needs. The router's? Which IP address is the router's if so? How do I see that?
I wish server was freeware so badly, I've watched videos and tried to replicate the results manually but I just absolutely can't get it. Would really appreciate support on this, as I've never encountered this problem configuring port forwarding in a browser-based scenario.

For reference the following AirPort User Tip will give you the basics for port forwarding.

What is required is the IP address of the host device that you want reached from the Internet. In this case it would be the server hosting the Starbound game.
It is highly recommended that you configure your server with a static Private IP address. You can do this using the DHCP Reservation feature of the AirPort Utility. What this does is assign a dedicated address from the pool of addresses that are provided to local network clients. You will then use this address to populate the IP Address field for the port mapping. Note: Port Forwarding and Port Mapping are used interchangeably. Apple uses Port Mapping.
To assign a DHCP Reservation:
Start the AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Extreme, and then, select Edit.
Select the Network tab.
Click on the "+" button under the DHCP Reservations window.
For "Description," enter Starbound or whatever you want to describe this port mapping.
Reserve Address By: MAC Address
MAC Address: (Note: This will be the hardware MAC address of the server's Ethernet or wireless interface.)
IPv4 Address: [enter the desired IP Address that you want to assign the server. It should be from the available pool of DHCP addresses. By default this pool is: 10.0.1.2 thru 10.0.1.200. For example, you can use 10.0.1.100
Select Save
Using the reference provided earlier, use the AirPort Utility to define the port mapping that you require. (Note: You should still be on the Network tab.) I filled in the values for you. Note, however; that you may need to change the value for the IP Address field to the address that you set earlier in the DHCP Reservation.

It is necessary to set your modem to FULL BRIDGED MODE so that your router will be able to handle all of your Internet traffic and to avoid conflicts with your ports. You can check for the status of the IP address on the router web interface. Here are the steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "'Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Click on the Status tab look for the Internet IP address that should be public ip address.
You can do some more settings as well on the router.
4] Click on setup tab and change the MTU into Manual and enter 1365 for the Size.
5] Click the security tab and uncheck 'Filter Anonymous Internet Requests'.
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

I am new to the forums, and I am already overjoyed with the 30 minutes I spent figuring out that the login mechanism does not even work with browsers other than IE7/8. Lots of fun to start.
I live in a residential building with the residential High Speed Internet Plan. I assume this is the case because it is a DSL line and they are not using business grade, or I do not think I would be having these problems.
I have spent many hours trying to figure out how to port forward with the above-mentioned router/modem/gateway/**bleep** extraordinnaire. I am in IT professionally, and I am tired of feeling **bleep**. I called Verizon tech, but they were very unhelpful unless I pay for a premium tech service to figure out port forwarding problems. And yes, I have read the info on port-forward.com numerous times for this device.
Essentially, I want to forward an arbitrary port, let's say 6336, to a server running Ubuntu 9.10. I have put this computer in the DMZ using the web interface. I have also set up a mapping rule to forward 6336 (all three entries pointed to 6336 in the Security/Applications/Forwarding section, following docs on port-forward.com for this specific model AND Verizon's own documentation). Occassionally, I can see the service is viewable from the likes of canyouseeme.org. Nonetheless, I cannot access the port: I get a connection refused error when using ssh on this port. Yes, I correctly configured ssh on the DMZ server/host to respond to the non-standard 6336 port, and I have tried it with the server's firewall system (ufw/iptables, for the curious) enabled and disabled. It NEVER works.
Some posts here have indicated I might need a static IP assignment. That can be done only client-side (meaning the Ubuntu server in the DMZ), if I understand people saying it is not possible to do static assignments from this **bleep** gateway, so I am not sure if that should matter (I wonder what happens with this **bleep** when two computers try to demand the same static IP; dare I guess that he asks first wins?). I cannot recall if I have uPnP enabled or disabled as I am at the office right now, but I believe it is off. Not sure if this matters either. If I am wrong, I would love if someone could let me know. I am at a loss and sick of dealing with such a simple problem. I would really appreciate the help.

Ok.
#1 On your computer setup a Static IP.
This means following the directions at http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-ubuntu-linux-convert-dhcp-network-configuration-to-static-ip-con...
#2 The Static IP must be outside of that DHCP range of the router. So, this means your IP has be above 1 but below 64.
#3 In the router forward to the IP Address that you setup on the computer.
OR if the router can give the computer the same IP Address each time, you could do that.

Trouble with port forwarding, DHCP, VUZE, and downloading speed.

I am using Vuze to download things. I have a slow download speed and yellow smiley face, indicating a NAT problem. I think I need to implement a port forwarding, but that requires a static IP address. My router and security is set up such that I CANNOT connect to the internet using a manual configuration--DHCP only. However, I always have the same IP address. This is because the wireless router--a Motorola SB900--will only recognize approved computers designated by the IP address.
Can anyone advise on what to do next?

you are dealing with two networks. There is a network between your computer and your router. There is a second network between your router and your ISP.

You need to set Port-forwarding between your computer and your router. You will need a fixed IP address on a your Computer. There is to ways of doing this. You can set up a static IP address on your computer. A hack would be to add 10 or 20 to your IP address that your router gives out. For example if your router gives out 192.168.1.10 you of would add 10 to the ten giving 192.168.1.20. you need to make the addition to the right most number of which in the example is ten.
The section way is . . . You can have your router a signed a fixed address based on your MAC address. ( Each Internet device has a fixed address that is called the MAC address. This is a different address than your IP address. the MAC address is assigned in the factory. )
Another hack would be to Port-forward to the number your router assigned at random. If your Computer is the only computer on the router, the number should always be the same. It is a hack because this is not guaranteed.

I'd like to begin using my Skype service and use Comcast only for internet. The modem/router I use now has two phone ports. Will default settings in Skype allow me to use this modem?

Skype's standard service doesn't natively support SIP, only through the use of the connect service which is pricier. The failure was my experience, it may not be the same for you, whatever software or hardware issues create the problem might be addressed in the newer releases. I guess I will find out over time. I'm still slowly trying to figure out if they are repairable and I've been partially successful. One other similar device is the Soundwin SP110. Someone posted what I think is the most reasonable price I have seen it for.(http://global.pchome.com.tw/english/?m=item&f=exhibit&IT_NO=DSAD04-A64453055). It's getting better with firmware updates, but I personally don't own one.

This is for Apple routers which do not use browser setup.. you must use the airport utility for any setup.
There is particular advice by the section GURU.. Tesserax on how to port forward in apple routers.
Finding the tips is now an exercise though.

Port Forwarding with Airport Express 802.11n Utility version 6.1

Quick question, hoping it can be solved with a quick answer
Not sure what I'm doing wrong: I'd like to set up port forwarding for Skype and Transmission, however in the airport utility even when I assign the public/private ports to the ones specified in the respective programs (with the IP address for the machine I am using), if I go into Transmission or onto a port checker website the connections are shown as closed for the ports I have selected (on the public side).
I've made a DHCP reservation for this machine to tie it to a given IP address, and I've enabled NAT port forwarding protocol in the Network options (no default host so far).
Also, in case it makes a big difference, right now I'm connecting to the internet via a Cisco DCP3825 cable modem running in bridge mode, with the AEBS in DHCP and NAT router modes.
Any tips?

Sadly I never got it to work. I called up Apple and they claimed that all the ports are open for the Airport Express, but if I run port scanner in Network Utilities none of the ports I specify show up as open unless I select one of the "Default" port categories like "Windows File Sharing". I told this to the person I spoke to on the phone, and they replied several times in a row that they are not allowed to help set up port forwarding, that they can only provide info on how to open the ports, and that even if the ports are subsequently not opened or forwarded they can't provide any assistance. It wasn't a very good conversation. Unfortunately, based on some of the other disucssions I've looked at in this forum, it doesn't seem possible to do conventional custom port forwarding using this version of the Airport Utility. Hopefully someone will correct me though. Sorry I can't be more help.

New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Thanks in advance for the help!

Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS. FiOS does not use modems. Your cable modem is useless with FiOS. Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers. The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet. The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports. If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet. For slower speeds, coax is the default. Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work. Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay. If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time. You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models. The Verizon routers are good devices for most users. People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down. You can't run any other router firmware on them. WiFi range is decent, but not great. I'm quite happy with my Quantum router. YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want. However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router. They won't even mention it as an option. That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service. If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one. If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues. This will allow you to call their support. Location of Infinity modem and router

I would like to change my broadband to Infinity but need to know a few things before doing so. The main OpenReach socket (the one with a removable lower section) is above the front door fanlight. From this box I have two wires (extensions) coming out from behind (nothing is plugged into the front), one, about 3-4 metres in length goes straight through the ceiling into the above bedroom to the router (Voyager 2500V). The other one goes to the sitting room and is a longer cable. I have also done away with the ‘bell wire’ so only two wires exist in both connections.
I would like to locate the new modem and router in the bedroom where it is at the moment. There is no way I can use a 13 amp socket in the hallway and have the equipment there. My questions are:
1. Will the current location of my router be alright for Infinity?
2. How many Ethernet ports does the Infinity router have?
3. Does the router have VOIP like my Voyager?
4. If Infinity misbehaves, is it just a matter of unplugging the modem and router and plugging in my old Voyager?
No guesses please, I need to know exactly before going ahead with Infinity.

Also, I’m not familiar with your terms, e.g. terminated phone cable, but I won’t ask you to explain them. To me there are three types of cable, a two-wire cable that runs from the master socket to a wall point, a telephone cable that plugs into a wall socket and an Ethernet cable that runs from the computer to the router. Are other types utilised by Infinity?
Further explanation of my wiring:
The wire from the rear of the master plug terminates as an extension in the bedroom where the micro filter and router plug in. It’s not used for a telephone, just the router. Can’t the new modem plug into this? Power points are not a problem in the bedroom.
I installed the cable about two years ago after acquiring a new type main box (the previous on worked but I was told this was better), at the same time I used just two of the 4 or 6 wires in both my extensions. The previous 40 year-old extension ran all around the hall skirting board, up the side of the stairs, around the landing to a bedroom. It had been painted many times and was almost brittle, that’s why I decided to go through the ceiling, under the floor boards and up to make a socket on the skirting board. It’s only a few metres long and I can easily take the carpet up, remove a floorboard and change the extension wire to any other kind of wire, e.g. an Ethernet cable.

Okay, I've been wanting to port forward this game called Minecraft for quite awhile now, but never got around to it, but now that I've wanted to let my friends that can't play with hamachi play with me. I wanted to port forward it so that they go into the game without using hamachi, or any other networking program. If anyone knows how to acomplish this with a guide for this then it would be nice, or just simply write out instructions. Yea it looked okay. Go to cmd, then type in ipconfig. Look for your ipv4 address. Now make sure that address is the same as the one that you set up port forwarding for in your router.
Make sure you have reserved that ip by going to 192.168.1.1--->Basic Setup--->DHCP Reservation---> (your PC). Now restart your PC. The important thing is to make sure that your local ip matches everything (Port forward, server.properties, and the DHCP Reservation Table)
Now go to the .bat files that you downloaded for the minecraft server. You should see a file called "server.properties". The normal way that you would set this up is the same as with a hotel Ethernet connection.
Configure the AirPort Express to "create a wireless network" in Bridge Mode and allow the school's router to provide the IP addresses. In Bridge Mode, the Express will pass through the IP address information seamlessly to connected devices. All ports are already open. Everything will be on the same subnet.
