How to randomize the elements in an array!!

Hi,
If i have an array, with say 50 integers which may be in some kind of order, is there a special method which could randomize these numbers for me? If not does anyone know of an algorithm which could do this?

Hi,
You could do that this way:
int data[] = new int[50];
for (int i=0; i<50;i++) {
data[i] = (int)(Math.random() * 100);
This code generates a random number between 0 and 1 and multiplies it by 100. This way, the resulting number will be between 0 and 100. If you want another order of data, you could multiply the ramdomly generated number by the greatest value you are expecting to be generated.

Basically it is (at least in LV8.0). There is a property "Number of Rows" which sets the number of visible rows. If your 1D array is placed horizontally, use "Number of Columns".

How to find the elements of an array

I want to find the number of elements in an array, and I can't find the tutorial that shows how to find it. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Say we wish to delete the second element of an array a[1]. Do you really believe that a[1] = a[2] somehow magically deletes a[1]? I really don't think so Tim.

How to access the element s in a hashMap with order

Does anybody know how to access the elements in a hashMap with order.
I know set is a collection that doesn't gaurantee the order so the iterator of keySet will not gaurantee the order.
Is there any way to solve this?

If you mean the order in which the key/value pairs where added to the
map, have a look at the LinkedHashMap class. If you mean 'natural'
order, you shouldn't be using a HashMap at all then; have a look at the
TreeMap class instead.

How to set the value of an array element (not the complete array) by using a reference?

My situation is that I have an array of clusters on the front panel. Each element is used for a particular test setup, so if the array size is three, it means we have three identical test setups that can be used. The cluster contains two string controls and a button: 'device ID' string, 'start' button and 'status' string.
In order to keep the diagrams simple, I would like to use a reference to the array as input into a subvi. This subvi will then modify a particular element in the array (i.e. set the 'status' string).
The first problem I encounter is that I can not select an array element to write to by using the reference. I have tried setting the 'Selection s
tart[]' and 'Selection size[]' properties and then querying the 'Array element' to get the proper element.
If I do this, the VI always seems to write to the element which the user has selected (i.e. the element that contains the cursor) instead of the one I am trying to select. I also have not found any other possible use for the 'Selection' properties, so I wonder if I am doing something wrong.
Of course I can use the 'value' property to get all elements, and then use the replace array element with an index value, but this defeats the purpose of leaving all other elements untouched.
I had hoped to use this method specifically to avoid overwriting other array elements (such as happens with the replace array element) because the user might be modifying the second array element while I want to modify the first.
My current solution is to split the array into two arrays: one control and one indicator (I guess that's really how it should be done ;-) but I'd still like to know ho
w to change a single element in an array without affecting the others by using a reference in case I can use it elsewhere.

It isn't possible to get a reference to a particular element within an
array. There is only one reference to the one control that represents
all elements in the array.
While it may seem better to use references to update
an element within
an array, it shouldn't really be necessary, and it can also lead to
race conditions. If you write to an element that has the
possibility of the user changing, whether you write with a local, a
reference, or any other means, there is a race condition between the
diagram and the user. LV will help with this to a certain extent,
especially for controls that take awhile to edit like ones that use
the keyboard. In these cases, if the user has already started entering
text, it will not be overwritten by the new value unless the key focus
is taken away from the control first. It is similar when moving a slider
or other value changes using the mouse. LV will write to the other values,
but will not rip the slider out of the user's hand.
To completely avoid race conditions, you can split the array into user
fields and indicators that are located underneath them. Or, if some
controls act as both, you can do like Excel. You don't directly type
into the cell. You choose w
hich cell to edit, but you modify another
location. When the edit is completed, it is incorporated into the
display so that it is never lost.

How do I display all the elements of an array?

Hello,
I am trying to learn about manipulating arrays. The example finder includes this one," build array_forum.vi", which shows the two modes, concatenate and append, which I can understand, HOWEVER, I cannot figure out how they built this vi. For example, I can find the Build Array function, but, I cannot understand how they created the "array of numeric data 1" "array of numeric data 2"...etc, and I cannot find the functions on the palettes that result in the display "build array concatenate inputs". Where are these blue functions????
Where are these functions found on the palette, and how does one construct them like this?
The other vi shown here, "for loop array_forum.vi" is my attempt to duplicate it, but, it does not show all the elements of the array; instead it displays only ONE element, the last element of the array. How do I display all the elements of the array I am trying to create using the FOR LOOP?

How to change the color of Numeric array elements (seperately) programmatically using property node??

For example, i have 3 numeric controls, controlling 3 numeric array elements (Numeric control is connected directly to indicator). Then if i change value in numeric control 1, then the array element No.1 of numeric array should turn red when value exceeds 5. Similarly when i change num control 2 then element 2 of array should turns red when value in num control 1 exceeds 10. Similarly for 3rd element. In other words, i want to control the property of array elements individually through seperate numeric control.
I have done it for single numeric indicator.i.e. when i change numeric control's values then a single numeric indicator changes values and color (Numeric text BG property) but with array, the color of whole array changes but i want to change color of singles element of array.

...or replace the numerics with clusters that have a numeric and a color box. make the background of the nmeric transparent and slide the color box behind the numeric. Use the color box to control the background color.
Other alternatives would use a cluster instead of the array or if your req's are really weird "roll-your-own" with a Picture control.

How to change the elements number in Number To Boolean Array Function VI

Hi, I'm working on using the DAQ digital output to control the digital input of a DAC, and I used the Number To Boolean Array Function. VI to convert the number to a Boolean array. The maximum number should be 4096, therefore it should consist of 12 elements.
For the description of the VI, it says Boolean array returns an array of 8, 16, 32, or 64 elements, depending on the number of bits in the integer. Therefore, I change the number of the channels in task to 16, but it still doesn't work. Any suggesitions are greatly appreciated.

Possible reason(s):
Write cannot be performed, because the number of channels in the data does not match the number of channels in the task.
When writing, supply data for all channels in the task. Alternatively, modify the task to contain the same number of channels as the data written.

Once you have the boolean array, you can resize it using array tools. For example you can use "reshape array" with a lenght of 12 to trim the array to 12 booleans elements (you can also use array subset).

How to insert 1 element in 2D array?

There is an example of how to replace element in 2D array, but I would like to insert (not replace), I use the insert element. it does not work for 2 D array.

You need to tell more about what you want done. What exactly does it mean
to insert into a 2D array? Are you inserting into the row or column or
both? By that I mean to ask what parts of the array get their indices
incremented. Then what should happen at the endpoints? If you insert a
point into one row then that row will have one more element than the others.
Should the last element in that row be lost or should the other rows get a
zero appended?

How to average each element in an array

I have data from a Gage Card that I would like to average. I am tuning a laser over a 50 mA range and for each 1mA increment in current, I am taking 100 scans. Each scan consisting of about 200 points. I cannot average more than 10 shots using the Gagecard so I would like to capture 100 scans, and average them to reduce noise. Currently, I have my capture vi inside of a for loop which repeats 100 times and each scan writes to a file, but I would like ony 1 scan (the lower noise averaged one) per current increment.
How can I average each element of 100 arrays and output this to an array?

It sounds like you want to average element 0 across 100 arrays and make that element 0 of the new averaged array. Then average element 1 across 100 arrays and make that element 1 of the new array ... ?????
How are you working with your 100 1-D arrays now?
What you should do is make a 2-D array where one dimension is 100 (for the number of individual arrays) and the other dimension is how many elements are in those 100 1-D arrays. Then you can use for loops with auto indexing to break the 2-D array down into each row or column, do the average of that array, and autoindex on the other side to build back up into the new 1-D array of averages. You may need to to a transpose array going into your for loop in case the arrays are indexed in the wrong direction.

Checking the first character of the element in an array

I have a situation where in I have to check if the array element which is of type long (but it can also be of type double..) is negative. e.g.:
{-8767, 987656, 1827636, -982563, -36372626898}
How do I check to see if the element in the array is negative???
I get this array from another class which gives me only the array with the amounts(elements) but I cannot be sure if it is a long type of double type.
Please help.

In your original post you ask:

It turns out the element in the array has a method called "isNegative". So, you check to see if the element in the array is negative by calling its isNegative method! If it returns true, it's negative, if it returns false it's positive.
Unless, of course, there's something else going on that has not been revealed yet
