How To Restrict View of Data Per User

I am designing a reporting application in Discoverer, from Oracle Applications data. We need to show sales data to the sales people - and we would like a single Discoverer workbook to do this - the challenge is that we need to restrict the data so that the salesperson only sees his/her own data, and cannot view other sales data.
I will need to use this same methodology for the sales managers. Each sales manager will only be able to see his/her direct reports' sales data.
How would you design this? Could we use a single Discoverer workbook for all sales people - and there be row-level security to restrict the current users' search results?
Thank you,
Rich Magee

Yes Rich. We have only one workbook for all the stores in our case. You can create mapping table like this
Table Name: usermapping
username salesrepid
john 10
michelle 20
If you are using your own tables/views for your reports create a repid column in them and populate accordingly.Assuming that your custom tables is like this
Table Name: RepInfo
line# salesrepid region product amount
1 10 NE S/W 1000.00
2 20 SW H/W 500.00
Create a function like this
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION setparam (name VARCHAR2)
RETURN NUMBER
IS
BEGIN
/* Setting the session client information to the value of parameter so that this can be accessed
by the custom folder in the admin edition */
dbms_application_info.set_client_info(name);
RETURN 1;
END;
Create a custom folder like
select a.region,a.product,a.amount
from
repinfo a,
usermapping b
where
a.salesrepid = b.salesrepid
and b.username = USERENV('CLIENT_INFO') --gets the username from the above function which sets the username for the database session.
The input to above function which is username would be passed from report using a calculation item.You can create a calculation item and select the function setparam and give the input to it 'USER' variable which is gives the username of the current session.
The workbooks passes the username to function and custom folder would get the username from the function.This approach would allow you to pass the username dynamically and use the same report for all the rep's. I'vent tried VPD concept till now.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

  • How to Restrict Single Delivery Date for PO with Multiple Line Items

    Dear Experts,
    How to Restrict Single Delivery Date for PO with Multiple Line Items.
    System needs to through Error Message if User Inputs Different Delivery Dates for PO with Multiple Line Items in ME21N Tcode.
    Can we achive this by Some Enhancement in SAP or Not ???
    If so how to do it.
    Any Inputs is highly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Selvakumar. M

    Hi Selvakumar,
    we can resrict the PO to have a single delivery date in all the line items by means of giving a error message or overwiting the delivery date keyed/determined in the line item.
    You can use the BADI -> ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST. In which you need to implement the method PROCESS_SCHEDULE.
    (for technical aid - This method will be called for each and every PO line item, From the imporing parameter im_schedule we can get all the details of current PO line, even we can change the data in the current PO line. )

  • How to restrict the department to not user other departments' equipment?

    Dear SAPIENTS,
    How to restrict the department to not user other departments' equipment? If suppose any one creating order for equipment having different authorization group then system should not allow me to do this.
    Regards,
    Kaushal Rai

    Kaushal Rai,
    Use Authorization group for technical objects, create authorization gruops in IMG and assign the same to the Equipment master and block the other department with the same authorization group. For ristricting the authorization group to other departments after creating and assigning it to the equipment seek help from your BASIS team.
    goto the below path for cerating the Authorization group:
    IMG - PMCS - Master data in PMCS - Technical Objects - Define Authorization groups:
    Here you define the authorization groups, after completion of this step go to the Equipment master in General Data tab page there is a feild Authourization Group, mention the respective authorization group and provide this Authorization gruop value to the respective user in the user role with the help of BASIS Team.

  • R12 Restrict Parallel Concurrent Requests Per User to a Limit.

    Hi everyone,
    Is it possible to restrict parallel concurrent requests per user to a limit.
    e.g. UserA sending concurrent requests to submit 15 heavy reports one after another. After 2 minutes he feels free. Now 15 reports running in parallel are heavy enough to take system's performance down. Is there a way to restricting parallal reports by a single user to 5.

  • How to separate application module instance per user session?

    Hi.
    How do you separate application module instances per session or per user? I am creating a web application and has created a simple filter that implements Filter.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Frank. Thank you for the reply.
    I tried using two browsers. The behavior of each page is very much different when being opened individually. Its like the two pages is sharing the same iterator / data and / or entity object. These two pages were opened to see if one is dependent upon the other. But when I test the same scenario on a different computer, everything works out fine.
    Is there a way for me to verify if the sessions are different? and if they are different, is there a way to verify if the application module created a new instance for the other session?

  • How can we view the data asociated with Request ID

    Hi All,
    I have data loaded in an ODS there are multiple files loaded in this ODS. Now i want to view data for a perticuler request OR i want to know how can we know the data associated with a perticular request.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks & Regards
    Amit Kumar

    Copy the request number (not request ID) from the ODS manage screen, Goto RSRQ give the request number and execute. it shows the monitor screen- now goto PSA from the top and check the data. But this possible only if you are loading data to PSA also along with ODS.
    Otherwise, Goto Display Data of ODS from the right click on it -- in the selection screen give the Request ID that you want to check the data. Then it displays only that request data.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to set the portlet preference per user instead of global setting

    Hello All
    I am using IBM JSR168/ JSF, In my portlet Edit mode I am trying to set a value per user preference , but it always set for all other users even this is just a normal user, I think when an administrator set any preference value then those preferences value will be set for all the users. but in my case it is a normal user has right for the edit mode and hence the preference set by the user in edit mode will be set for his portlet instance only. So why it sets for all the users preference???...... Thanks a lot for your help!!!
    here is my code:
    ///////////portlet.xml//////////
    <preference>
                        <name>RowsPerPage</name>
                        <value>25</value>
                        <read-only>false</read-only>
                   </preference>/////////////////////////pageCode in edit mode do the save action/////////////////////////

                  HttpSession session = (HttpSession)ctx.getExternalContext().getSession(false);
                  if(session != null) {
                       session.setAttribute("save", "save");
                       session.setAttribute("Number",Integer.toString(getNumber()));
               return "";
    }/////////////////////store the preference value///////

              try{
                //String save1 = actionRequest.getParameter("save");
                String save = (String) actionRequest.getPortletSession().getAttribute("save");
                if (save != null){
                   PortletPreferences prefs = actionRequest.getPreferences();
                   String number= (String) actionRequest.getPortletSession().getAttribute("Number");
                   prefs.setValue("Number", number);
                   prefs.store();
              }

    Hope someone really can help me for this issue... I just wondering is this related to the user group config in portlet, since the interesting is that this issue is not apply to wpsadmin , but not sure where and how to set other user group that can set the preference no problem??

  • How can I view/copy data from one Time Capsule backup to another computer

    My MBP and MB both back up to Time Capsule. From the MBP I can see it's data on TC via my network but not the backed up data from the MacBook. How can I view and import MB data to my MBP from Time Capsule via AirPort? Thanks!

    Is the backup software Time Machine??
    You can open the TM backup as long as you haven't used profiles to backup. Or encypted it in latest Mountain Lion.
    See Q17 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
    You should read through all the stuff about using TM.. and restore in particular.. 14-18.

  • How do I view/log Easy VPN users connections?

    I have a 2811 as an Easy VPN server. How do I view and log users who login via local accounts? This can be by either CLI or SDM access.

    Leigh,
    Long time no talk :-))
    On the 2811, do a "show aaa user all" and check if you are able to see the users connected. In case you dont see any outputs, enable AAA Accounting on the 2811 and then run the command again.
    Please refer the below URL for enabling VPN Accounting.

  • How to restrict views in MS INFOPATH 2010 based on a user Login id

    Hi,
    I am the Admin of the Time Reporting SharePoint tool for my project. When a user enters/edit a time report ,it is done via an Infopath 2010 form. This form has 2 views:
    1. For the normal users to see (default view)
    2. For the Admins only.
    What i want is that when a normal user(not an admin) logs in to the site to change his/her time report and opens this form,that person will only be able to see the default view . If an admin logs in then he/she can swicth between both the views .
    Currently i am unable to provide any such functionality. Even a normal user is able to see both the views which i want to restrict.
    Pelase let me know how do i restrict the normal users to the default view only based on their login ID.They shouldnt be able to switch views at all.
    But if an admin logs on then both the views should be accessible.
    I am new to InfoPath , so please let me know from scratch. I need only out of box solution for this as i cannot perform any kind of coding due to site restriction.
    Regards,
    Guru

    Hi ,
    My problem is still not resolved. I tried applying the people picker property and set a specific field(an email id field) to be available to only admins. Now the field is not visible to the normal users but only admins which is good but that email field
    should be able to take normal users as wel as admin's email ID. currently due to the people picker property it only takes admin's ID and not normal user's ID - which is not as per expectation.
    What this email ID field does is - when a normal user is logged in he/she wont see this field in that view. But when an admin logs in he/she can switch to admin view and see this field . The admin can put any user's ID in this field and pull out the required
    resource's Time Report for modification.
    Please let me know how do i overcome my problem. Detailed step description will be very helpfull .
    As per Cameron's suggestion (add a rule on the "additional admin section") , i am not sure how exactly that is done. Would help a lot if i got to know how this works.
    Regards,
    Guru
