  • How to define and use special characters

    I need to define some special characters (such as an up-arrow and a down-arrow). I need to add these characters to Strings along with "normal" ASCII characters, and finally display the Strings with graphics.drawString().
    Can anyone get me started or tell me where to look? I looked at the archive but apparently I'm not using the correct keywords.
    Thanks in advance, Rick

    public void paint(Graphics g) {
            super.paint(g);
            g.drawString("up arrow: \u2191 down arrow: \u2193", 100, 100);
        }Works for me.

    Hi Gurus
    How to select and store the dynamically clicked values in the checkboxes?
    Scenario:-
    I am having a tree structure but I am not getting that user has clicked the which nodes.
    So how to do it.
    Pls.

    Hi,
    Once again, this is dependent on what your implementation expects. It would seem that your implementation is expecting all of the API to be coded in Java Card so it would make sense that you would load these packages like any other package. Loading an applet is not a special case, it just has an extra step of installing instances of it (and can actually be installed). Any other Java package just needs to be loaded. As such, just load your CAP files for each package of the API before loading any code that depends on it.
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • E72: Swedish and other special characters not work...

    When I send mail through MfE, swedish and other special characters do not reach the recipient, they are just ignored. No blanks or nothing. Every word with a swedish character ends up one letter short.
    Before the firmware upgrade this was intermittent, happening only on about half of my mails.
    Now I upgraded yesterday, and it seems the problem is now permanent.
    Have seen similar posts from E75 and E90 owners, their problems seem to have been fixed by newer firmware.
    Our setup is: Exchange 2003, Portwise authentication.
    All other phone models work fine, like iPhone, E71 etc.
    /Sebastian

    After some testing I found out that if I use swedish chars in the subject line, it works fine. Even in the mail body.
    If I don't use swedish chars in the subject, they won't work in the body. I either get garbage or nothing where the swedish chars should be.
    The problem doesn't exist at all in my private IMAP mail account.
    Could someone who uses Mail for Exchange and have special chars in their alphabet (swedish, finnish, german, hungarian etc) pls tell me how it's working out for you?

  • 10g won't recognize ellipsis and other special characters.

    I'm trying to insert data into both VARCHAR2 and CLOB columns that contains characters such as ellipsis and other special characters. Oracle doesn't recognize the characters and just converts it to garbage. Is there a way to make Oracle easily recognize these characters?
    For example, it won't recognize the following ellipsis in the string:
    "Here we are … right now."

    My bad...I did look at the national character set instead.
    When I performed theq query you posted, I got the following:
    NLS_CHARACTERSET
    WE8MSWIN1252
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET
    AL16UTF16
    I hope this new information helps. Also, the tool involved is SQL *Plus, but I'm currently concentrated on getting the insert to work via JDBC. Thanks in advance.

  • How to select and print calls only made and receiv...

    how to select and print out list of calls made and received for the past year, between myseld and one particular contact

    While I'm not sure about what you want to accomplish, I'll offer a couple of possible solutions.
    1. If the items that you want to remove are on the timeline, and those items are in layers that contain no content that you want to keep, then you can just select those layers and delete them.
    2. If you want to remove some items from the stage, but keep the original items for some later purpose, just copy the movie and then edit the copy as in item 1.
    3. If you need to remove some items from stage and then resize the stage to compensate for the loss of these items, then you may have to move and/or resize some of the items in your movie. This may be as simple as using the "edit multiple frames" selection in the timeline, or it may be much more time consuming.

  • Capturing returns and other special characters

    Greetings,
    I'm curious to know what is 'normally' done to capture
    returns and other special characters from textareas. I want my user
    to be able to insert 'control' characters into the text area to
    allow them to provide some structure to the information they're
    entering. At the moment, I'm processing the text char by char and
    working out if it's an 'enter' or whatever, then appending a
    '<br />' to the string before I store it and so on.
    Is there a more established way to do this sort of
    thing?

    Use the replace function to replace either chr(10) or chr(13)
    with a break tag. It's using cold fusion functions to accomplish
    the same thing you appear to be doing manually.

  • Dynamic Images in PDF and Escaping Special Characters

    I used the following to create my own PDFs with dymnamic images:
    http://marcsewtz.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html (Dynamic Images in PDF - What 32k Limit? )
    I have installed this application on Oracle's free workspace to test.
    The issue I am having is that when there is a special character in the description, such as <>'"& then the the PDF will not open. I have tried using the dmbs_xmlgen.convert to convert the description but haven't had any luck.
    I'm a complete novice with xml. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Glen

    I have been able to find a solution, but it's not completely perfect. I have changed the "description" field as follows:
    XMLCdata(replace(description,''&'',''and'')) description,
    The characters greater than (>), less than (<), single qoute('), and double quote (") can now all be in the description and will not cause errors. For some reason, I couldn't get the & not to give an error no matter what I tried, so I just replaced the & with the word "and". This solution will work for my needs, but it would be nice to be able to get the & to display.
    Does anyone know of a way to get the & to display correctly?
    Thanks again,
    Glen
    The complete code I am using is below:
    declare
    l_print_layout clob;
    l_xml_data clob;
    begin
    -- load print layout from database
    for c1 in (
    select layout from eba_pdfimg_layouts where id = :P1_LAYOUT
    ) loop
    l_print_layout := wwv_flow_utilities.blob_to_clob(c1.layout );
    end loop;
    -- generate XML data
    for c2 in (
    select dbms_xmlgen.getxml('
    select
    id,
    file_name,
    mime_type,
    XMLCdata(replace(description,''&'',''and'')) description,
    -- description,
    blob2clobase64(image,''Y'') image
    from eba_pdfimg_images
    ') xml_data from dual
    ) loop
    l_xml_data := c2.xml_data;
    end loop;
    -- download print document
    wwv_flow.g_page_text_generated := true;
    apex_util.download_print_document (
    p_file_name => 'image_demo',
    p_content_disposition => 'ATTACHMENT',
    p_report_data => l_xml_data ,
    p_report_layout => l_print_layout,
    p_report_layout_type => 'rtf',
    p_document_format => :P1_FORMAT

  • Language problem: ODBC changes special characters

    We are running Oracle 10g and have some clients that need access to some views using an ODBC-connection.
    Installation of the Instant Client and ODBC package went without trouble. We established a system DSN and the client has a successful connection to the database.
    Some special characters (for example german "&auml;","&ouml;","&uuml;" and the symbol "&Oslash;" for diameter) are howewer changed when viewed in Access or other 3rd party programms that use that system DSN ("&auml;" becomes "a", "&ouml;" becomes "o", "&Oslash;" becomes "?", etc.).
    I guess there may be just a single setting we missed to configure. Can anybody help?

    Hi,
    What character set is your database? SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS WHERE PARAMETER LIKE '%ERSET';
    Usually we see the behavior you're reporting when folks try to store data that the database characterset doesnt support. Disregard any sort of "when i select it from ____ it comes back different" results as that will only distract you.
    What is the data stored as exactly? Insert just a character or two in a one column table and then use the dump command.. SELECT DUMP(COLNAME,1016) FROM TABLENAME WHERE ...
    then match the code points with that character set and see if theyre valid.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • How to Type Diacritical Alphabets / Special Characters

    Dear,
    I am looking for the solution of following issues in MS Word and Excel 2007 Onward Applications:
    Our group members currently working in typing English articles on different chapters / topics and we are currently facing some problem with the same.
    We seek your kind help for the solution of following issues that are being faced currently:
    How to set the diacritical alphabets / special characters on your keyboard keys e.g. if I want to type Ā,
    then i just use the following command to type the same.
    How it is possible that I can easily type the special characters / diacritical alphabets with one combination only i.e. "Alt + a" for lower case alphabet e.g.
    ā & "Alt+Shift+a" for upper case e.g. Ā, using the keyboard in U.S language.
    Is there any option / add-in in MS Word / MS Excel that gives me solution of drop down option / suggestions of the word(s) to be typed.
    - Spell check option with accurate suggestion(s) of diacritical words to be made available.
    Seeking the solution of above matters anxiously.
    Regards,
    Kamran Damji

    The symbols that are available when you go to Insert|Symbol depends on what font you have selected when you open that dialogue or what other font you choose from the Fonts dropdown.
    I cannot see how developing an exe file would help - your users would still have to activate it and choose the desired character(s). A possible solution would be for you to create a series of Autotext entries for the symbols you require then distribute those
    to your users. See:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/add-autotext-HA010255209.aspx
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326538
    For the spell-checking, you should use an appropriate Paragraph Style or Character Style for the Arabic text, with the Style's language set to the appropriate Arabic dialect, and make sure that Style is applied to the text in question. You will also
    need to have the same Arabic dialect installed as a Proofing Language (see File|Options>Language).

  • How to assign shortcuts to special characters?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a question about assigning shortcuts, so here I go: I would like to know if there is a way (and if yes, how) to assign personal shortcuts to special characters on my newly acquired MacBook Pro running Mac OS Lion.
    The problem is that I use the Swiss-French keyboard layout and that I cannot use directly the keyboard to insert characters, such as 'Ó' or 'Í' (capital letters), whereas – strangely – I can insert their respective lower case characters. I also happen to use various other characters from different languages, such as 'ð' or 'þ', to which I would like also to assign personal shortcuts, so as not to constantly have to change my keyboard layout for every single one of them.
    Thank you very much for helping me out!
    Cheers!

    Wow! Thank you very much for your very clear explanations Barney-15E!
    Here is what I get when I try to do what you said (and what is actually what I have been doing up to now).
    So basically this is what I get when I open Keyboard Viewer (I remind you that my keyboard layout is Swiss-French):
    I then have two options to type either of the two accents:
    Shift+^ to get `
    Option+^ to get ´
    The first accent works perfectly well. I can type all the needed letters bearing a ` accent, regardless of their respective case.
    However, a problem arises when trying to type capital letters accentuated with  ´ accent.
    Here is what I get for the lowercase (Option+^):
    Everything is fine (except that the ý is missing... Which is another concern of mine)...
    But look what happens when I try to do the same for capital letters.
    What the devil happened to the Á, Í, Ó and to the Ú? Only the É seems to remain...
    And thus my problem. I cannot type Ó,... Using this method. What I get is a silly ´O or ´I... Uppercase letters are not accentuated.
    I hope this time my problem was easier to understand...
    The best way to solve this would probably be to assign shortcuts to special characters, but as mentioned above, apparently such a method does not exist, unfortunately...
