How to start java app with many jar files

Hi,
I have an application that makes use of 50 jar files. When I try to start the application, I need a very long command line like
java -classpath file1.jar;file2.jar;file3.jar; ... de.me.myapp.myclass
This is not very handy. Is there a shorter way if all jars are in the same directory? I would like a command like this:
java -cp /usr/local/my_jars de.me.myapp.myclass
but this does not work.
Any Idea if there is an easy solution?

    You really should be asking this NetBeans question at the NB site - these forums are for Java language topics, not NB support.

  • How to bundle java help class into jar file ?

    Hi, all,
    I have some package in my project, with which I have a java help jar file as classpath, when I run my project, I need the jh.jar file in directory /jar/jh.jar.
    Now, I bundled all my class packages into a jar file, my.jar, together with the /jar directory. When i run my jar file with command:
    java -jar my.jar
    It tells me couldn't find javahelp class.
    What shall I do? How can I create my jar file with the jh.jar?
    Thanks in advance.

    I think you'd be better off just adding the jh.jar as
    a classpath argument and running it like that:
    java -classpath /myjavalibdir/jh.jar -jar myjar.jar
    ...otherwise you're stepping into redistribution of
    binary issues licensing-wise. That won't work either; when you run java with the -jar option, it ignores both the -classpath option and the CLASSPATH environment variable. However, it will see jh.jar automatically if you put it in the <path-to-java>/jre/lib/ext directory. But for distribution purposes, it might be simpler just to combime the contents of jh.jar into myjar.jar (if you use Ant, its <jar> task makes that very easy). Or, you can just run it this way:java -classpath myjar.jar;jar/jh.jar MyMainClassBTW, I don't think redistribution is a problem; otherwise how anyone even use JavaHelp?

  • How to compile .java to .class in .jar file

    Hey. I have code to make a .jar file, read .java files, and save them as .class files in the .jar file. When I open the .jar file, it says that the magic numbers on the classes are wrong. So I figured that Java must compile the .java files to .class files in bytecode.
    Question: What's the code to compile a string from a .java file to a .class file?
    Here's my code:
    try {
                // Name of jar file to write
                String archiveFile = Name + ".jar";
                Manifest jman = new Manifest();
                try {
                    // Create a manifest from a file
                    //InputStream fis = new FileInputStream("manifestfile");
                    //Manifest manifest = new Manifest(fis);
                    // Construct a string version of a manifest
                    StringBuffer sbuf = new StringBuffer();
                    sbuf.append("Manifest-Version: 1.0\n");
                    sbuf.append("Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.7.1\n");
                    sbuf.append("Created-By: 1.5.0_19-137 (Apple Inc.)\n");
                    sbuf.append("Main-Class: Main\n");
                    sbuf.append("Class-Path: lib/swing-layout-1.0.3.jar\n");
                    sbuf.append("X-COMMENT: Main-Class will be added automatically by build\n");
                    // Convert the string to a input stream
                    InputStream is = new ByteArrayInputStream(sbuf.toString().getBytes("UTF-8"));
                    // Create the manifest
                    jman = new Manifest(is);
                } catch (IOException e) {
                FileOutputStream stream = new FileOutputStream(archiveFile, true);// archive file is jar file name
                JarOutputStream out = new JarOutputStream(stream, jman);
                out.putNextEntry(new JarEntry("Main.class"));
                StringBuffer sbuf = new StringBuffer();
                sbuf.append(readTextFromJar("Main.txt")));
                out.write(sbuf.toString().getBytes("UTF-8"));
                out.closeEntry();
                out.putNextEntry(new JarEntry("MainScreen.class"));
                sbuf = new StringBuffer();
                sbuf.append(readTextFromJar("MainScreen.txt"));
                out.write(sbuf.toString().getBytes("UTF-8"));
                out.closeEntry();
                out.putNextEntry(new JarEntry("GCanvas.class"));
                sbuf = new StringBuffer();
                sbuf.append(readTextFromJar("GCanvas.txt"));
                out.write(sbuf.toString().getBytes("UTF-8"));
                out.closeEntry();
                out.close();
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this, ex.toString(), "BUG!", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
                ex.printStackTrace();
            }Thanks,

    So I'm guessing that none of you guys have the knowledge on how to compile a java application within a java application. I was thinking that it had something to do with javac... but I'm unsure.
    If no one can answer the question, could someone point me to an expert who would know?

  • Executing java apps without individual JAR file entries in CP???

    Hi all,
    I'm used to having to specific EACH separate jar file in the CLASSPATH when executing a java application. See the batch file example below.
    Is there a way to not have to spell out EACH JAR file separately in this fashion? Eg just refer to the JAR directory?
    What do people usually do here when delivering a java application to someone else, given the application has your own class files in a JAR, plus other 3rd party class files? Do you always have to build up a long JAVA batch file like the one below to enable the application to be run?
    -----------example-------
    c:\Progra~1\jdk1.3.1\bin\java -classpath .;deploy\mail.jar;deploy\activation.jar;deploy\xerces.jar;deploy\commons-digester.jar;deploy\commons-collections.jar;deploy\commons-beanutils.jar sns
    Cheers
    Greg

    A simple way is to have a class inside your program load all the JAR files needed.
    That way, when the main class file starts, place a call to the class that will load
    the classes for you. Like this one below...
    import java.lang.*;
    public class MyJarLoader {
    public MyJarLoader() {
    System.load(String); // replace 'String' with the file pathname of a JAR file.
    // you will need to do this for each JAR file, just add another call to System.load() here

    I have coded a app that has a text file included in the resourses bundle.   Is there any way I can make the resourse file editable for the users (not by retyping it but most likely overwriting the resourse file)?

    You can also copy the file from the bundle to your application's folder in the user's ~/Library/Application Support/ directory (the path is similar for a sandboxed application) - see the File System Programming Guide.

    how to config the hot deploy?
    thxSorry, for this delay in responding. I had set notify me with email option in Watch This topic; but I never did get any email notification.
    I use wls6.1; I think the process may be very similar to this in wls8.x. In wls6.1 (sp5), this is done via the -
    Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False or
    Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=True
    in the startup cmd/sh script. Out of the box, wls6.1 is set to Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False which automatically enables hot deploys.

    As an example 'lock' Safari via your method.
    Now use Spotlight to search for Safari, tap it - is it 'locked'?
    Now go to your email & find a link to click - Safari opens again.
    Guided access is not a 'lock' in any sense of the word, it is a tool designed to stop things happening, but many apps have multiple ways to be found or launched you can't easily block them all.
    Mallik_Hyderabad, iOS doesn't have this feature & Apple do not seem interested in adding it (7.5 years & it still isn't an option) - use a passcode with a lock screen timeout if you have any sensitive data on the device or get an Android device.

  • Java app with web service and servlets

    Hi. I intend to make a java application which exposes some methods as a web service and as jsp/servlets. It's core functionality is not really web centric, but its more a java app with a web tier. I am not sure about how the architecture of such a system would look like using the java platform. I currently see three options:
    1. Run everything in a servlet container like tomcat. I hesitate to do this because i would be putting a lot of functionality which isn't about the web into a servlet container. Also, I have a lot of application scope data that is maintained and shared by all servlets/web services. However, it would be really easy just to put everything into tomcat and use ServletContext to maintain some global objects.
    2. Use a Java EE to seperate application/business logic and data access into session beans and entity beans. I hesitate to this because it seem a bit overkill because the system isn't very big or complex right now. It also means that I would have to learn to use EJB's instead of just using some POJOs.
    3. Run the web tier in a servlet container and the main app in a separate JVM, and then connect the tier by sending serialized objects over TCP sockets. I don't like writing network code but at least there is some separation of the tiers.
    What would you do? Maybe I have overlooked a much better solution to the problem?
    Let me just say that the system is the product of a student project spanning one semester, so it's important to choose the RIGHT solution (architectural-wise) instead of the something quick and dirty that is hard to defend.

    jschell wrote:
    Run everything in a servlet container like tomcatTomcat is a JEE container.Now I am confused. Maybe you mean Glassfish? Tomcat is definitely a web container(?).
    Let me just say that the system is the product of a student project spanning one semester, so it's important to choose the RIGHT solution (architectural-wise) That pretty much makes it impossible then.
    1. A "Right" solution is generally only proven by time.
    2. It requires a great deal of knowledge about the business domain.Yeah, you are right. Let be try to rephrase it. What solution (pattern) would be considered the most common or appropriate when you have a Java App and want to expose a few methods as a website and web service?
    I hesitate to do this because i would be putting a lot of functionality which isn't about the web into a servlet container. Also, I have a lot of application scope data that is maintained and shared by all servlets/web servicesHuh? Do you already have an exposed web service? If you already have a server which other clients communicate then where does this functionality that you don't want to be tomcat running now? Or where do you think that you want to run it? And if you are or do run it somewhere else then tomcat could access it the same way any other client accesses that server.Sorry, that sentence was written badly. I don't have anything right now. What I meant to write was that I will have a lot of application scope data, objects that are kept in memory as long as the server is running, shared by multiple servlet instances.

  • How to start a application with a login window?

    hi there
    does anyone have any idea on how to start an application with a login window? a login window is the first frame or window to be displayed when an application starts running. and only correct login id and password have been entered the real application will start. any sample out there? thank you.

    You can start a new thread by making a thread object and passing it an implementation of a runnable object. Runnable has just one method, public void run(), this is was gets executed in a second thread. perhaps the code you would use would look something like this.
    <code>
    // set up thread for login window
    new Thread(new Runnable() {
    public void run() {
    // construct your login window here
    // when you are done processing the
    // password....
    if(goodPassword) {
    authorized = true; // a global variable
    notifyAll(); // don't forget this
    else {
    System.exit(42);
    }).start();
    // control does not stop this code gets executed while
    // the above thread is running.
    // Set up main program here. This is done in the
    // backround.
    while(!authorized) {
    synchronized(this)
    { wait(50); }
    // now when the user logs in this frame pops
    // up real quick.
    myFrame.setVisible(true);
    </code>
    Hope you can figure it out.. good luck :)

    how to use Java WebStart with EJB ? examples ?Well, for starters these are complementing, not 'cooperating', technologies. I presume, since EJB's do not - directly, at least - communicate with a web browser, that you intend for "Java WebStart" to somehow invoke an EJB?? Java WebStart is a technology for running client-side (Java) applications from the web browser - perceptively, the application resides on the server, but technically it, like an applet, is downloaded to the client and run there. Unlike an applet, however, it is not constrained by "sandbox" restrictions and does not have to be re-downloaded each time it is invoked - though the process allows for automagically updating the client-side with new versions of the application. ;) So, with this in mind, to "use Java WebStart with EJB" means little more than deploying an EJB client application with Java WebStart as the distribution channel.

    how can i get apps with out using credit card info because i do not have a card ?

    Yo Chris. I've been following your answers to different threads and quite frankly, you're very keen in answering everybody regarding this stupidity that Apple has brought upon its customers. Kudos to you. But the problem is, most of the time, in some devices, your solution doesn't work because the NONE option is not there. The same goes for me.
    Meanwhile, I found a temporary workaround for the iPhone 4s, iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4th Gen.
    Register a free Apple ID from the iCloud Settings.
    Go to Settings>iCloud>Account>Tap Payment Information on the Storage Plan Category.
    Fill in the other boxes and choose "None" on Credit Card Information.
    That's it! Hope I helped those who still couldn't find the "None" Option.
    Must be running IOS 5.0.1 though, else there would be no iCloud.
