How to Stop the Ipad Speaking/ Guessing about Words in Document

Question

How do I stop the ipad from "vocalising" a word when I'm typing it in documents? Before I've finished typing the word, a "guess" appears beneath in blue with an "x" next to it, and the ipad then speaks the word? (that's the only way I can describe it).
If I then select the word- which I assumed was the correct response-it just goes away?
Can anyone tell me what this is, and what's it trying to do???

P.S. just for future reference, is there any way of getting explanations for this sort of thing by right-clicking or something like I'm used to in Windows?

All the code is executing in the GUI event Thread. Some methods add code to the end of the event Thread, so the code may not execute in the order you expect. I made the following changes to you example which appear to get rid of the flicker:
            final JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(jGridPanel);
            scrollPane.setPreferredSize ( new Dimension ( 800,600 ) );
            SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable()
                public void run()
                    scrollPane.getViewport().setViewPosition( new Point(0, 0) );
            });Once all the components have been added to the panel we can scroll the panel to the top of the scrollpane. It appears the the creation of the JTextArea also uses invokeLater() for some processing which is why your original solution invoked the resetCursorPosition after everthing had been built.
        final JFrame jFrame = new JFrame();
        jFrame.setTitle("The Frame");
        jFrame.getContentPane().add(getJMainPanel());

        jFrame.pack();
        jFrame.setDefaultCloseOperation( EXIT_ON_CLOSE );

            });Now we add the setVisible(...) method to the end of the event Thread to make sure it is the last statement executed after all the adjustments to the scrollpane have been done. Hope this makes some sense?
I also added jta.setCaretPosition(0); to the createLabelPanel() method.
Also, I don't know why you turned double buffering off on your jGridPanel. Double buffering allows for faster painting.
