How to store timestamp in format 'DD-MON-YY HH:MI am/pm'

Hi,
I am using a table having one field with timestamp datatype. in this column sysdate is inserted.
i have used datepicker and converted to text(disabled saves state)
in default i have used pl/sql function.
begin
return to_char(sysdate,'DD-MON-YY HH:MI');
end;
But value getting stored is *'02-oct-08 10:00:00:000000000am'* and it is changing pm to am.
what i need is to store *'02-OCT-08 10:00 am'* hope you got my problem.

If you make it a DATE field instead of a timestamp field it's stored more in the way you would expect.
Nevertheless it doesn't matter that much as you can change how it get displayed.
Your format mask should be something like DD-MON-YY HH:MI AM or without AM it would be DD-MON-YY HH24:MI
Test: select to_char(sysdate, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MI AM') from dual

How to store numeric format data in a database

In order to properly format a report generated from data stored in a database using a TestStand schema,
I would like to add formating information for numeric values to the database.
My intent was to store the numeric format string data in a separate column in the MEAS_NUMERICLIMIT table in the database.
By using this format string I can then format the numeric values in my report.
I have successfully retrieved the numeric format string by calling the 'NI TestStand API 3.0', using the ActiveX/COM adapter.
In the 'PropertyObject' class there is an action called 'Get Property'.
This action can retrive the 'NumericFormat' property for a given object reference.
The problem is that I don´t know HOW to do this in the dat
abase logging schema.
Can I use this method in the API to retrive and store the numeric format string in the database??
Or is there any other way of achieving this functionality?
All ideas for solutions are appreciated.

This question is better answered by thinking about about how Oracle dates work. SYSDATE is a pseudocolumn (function without any arguments) that returns a date value: it already is a date. Oracle date values are stored not as we see them, say 'DD-MON-YY', but as a series of bytes with the different date components from the millennium down to the second. We NEVER see dates as they are stored but use the formats for automatic conversion.
To display a date the way you want use TO_CHAR() with an edit mask or as others suggested change your NLS_DATE_FORMAT (thought I advise against this as most systems use DD-MON-YY and porting queries from other systems or even OTN can easily break). To change a converted string back to a date use TO_DATE() with an edit mask.

How can I store timestamp thing (not just yyyy-Mon-dd, but include time) to oracle 8.1.7? What kind of datatype it will be?

This is why in your post asking about date and timestamp conversion from DB2 to Oracle I wrote:
I assume the DB2 timestamp column will go into an Oracle date column? For timestamps since the Oracle date column
only supports time down to the seconds from DB2 you'll have to something like:
From DB2 to get the timestamp into the text file:
select substr(char(timestamp_column),1,19) from table
which would give you a value like: 2002-03-08-13.17.56
You would then need to insert this value into Oracle using:
insert into table values(to_date('2002-03-08-13.17.56','YYYY-MM-DD-HH.MI.SS'))
The substr 1,19 will get the DB2 timestamp down to the seconds which is the best Oracle 8.1.7 can do. I've read that Oracle
9i supports time down to fractions of a second but I'm not sure if it goes to .000001 seconds like DB2 does. If you need
that precision in 8.1.7 you might have to store the fraction in another column(number data type?) and concat the two columns
together or store the entire timestamp in a varchar2 column. This could raise other issues on how to do any kind of date
manipulation though.

I am using Flash Builder 4.6, BlazeDS, and Hibernate. How to store a webcam snapshot into the MySql Database. I stored Form Items by using RemoteObject into the database. But I failed to store webcam snapshot. I captured that image on Panel component.I converted that image to ByteArray. Now I want to save that image into the database. Please help me in this regard.

Hi!
I am using Flash Builder 4.6, BlazeDS, and Hibernate. How to store a webcam snapshot into the MySql Database. I stored Form Items by using RemoteObject into the database. But I failed to store webcam snapshot. I captured that image on Panel component.I converted that image to ByteArray. Now I want to save that image into the database. Please help me in this regard.

How to handle Multiple date formats for the same date field in SQL*Loader

Dear All,
I got a requirement where I need to get data from a text file and insert the same into oracle table.
I am using SQL*Loader to populate the data from the text file into my table.
The file has one field where I am expecting date date data in multiple formats, like dd/mon/yyyy, yyyy/dd/mon, yyyy/mon/dd, ,mm/dd/yyyy, mon/dd/yyyy.
While using SQL*Loader, I can see Loading is failing for records where we have formats like yyyy/dd/mon, yyyy/mon/dd, mon/dd/yyyy.
Is there any way in SQL*Loader where we can mention all these date formats so that this date data should go smoothly into the underlying date column in the table.

The point being made was, are you sure that you can uniquely identify a date format from the value you receieve? Are you sure that the data stored is only of a particular limited set of formats?
e.g. if you had a value of '07/08/03' how do you know what format that is?
It could be...
7th August 2003 (thus assuming it's DD/MM/RR format)
or
8th July 2003 (thus assuming it's MM/DD/RR format)
or
3rd August 2007 (thus assuming it's RR/MM/DD format)
or
8th March 2007 (thus assuming it's RR/DD/MM format)
or even more obscurely...
3rd July 2008 (MM/RR/DD)
or
7th March 2008 (DD/RR/MM)
Do you have any information to tell you what formats are valid that would allow you to be specific and know what date format is meant?
This is a classic example of why dates should be stored on the database using DATE datatype and not VARCHAR2. It can lead to corruption of data, especially if the date can be entered in any format a user wishes.

1. I iterated this fucntion moudule to store the multiple attachments to the workflow
SAP_WAPI_ATTACHMENT_ADD
2. Call this FM to get the attachemnts form the workflow (pass workitem Item id which is used for storing the attchments). SAP_WAPI_GET_ATTACHMENTS
from above you will get objkey for each attachment as output in table.
3. Pass the objkey to this FM to get the contents
SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1'. this will retrun the content of the attachment either in object_content, contents_hex.
4. Pass the Obtained content to SCMS_BINARY_TO_XSTRING to get the disired format.

 Can you please tell me How to Store as Multiple files which i read as attachements from Mail Sender Adapter .
 In My scenario i can able to bring the Multiple attachement in the Paylod using PaylodSwapBean . I wan to store these attachements to a file system. ie. Whatever attachements i am reading i have to store in a file .
 For eg., In my scenario i have designed the Data Type as DT_Test--> Row --- > Details .
 Details can able to hold each line of Each File . One file contains multiple Line data .
 If i use Message Transform Bean , first attachement only getting Tranformed rest of them as it is . Not getting tranformed to required format.
 Please give some suggestions !

Here i want to know how to store the data's of a .txt file
in to a JTable in java swing.
Where here the .txt file like for eg,spooler.txt is in the server and from there it will come to my client machine what i have to do is to take that .txt file and store the datas of the .txt file
in a JTable.This is what i want.So pls. do help and provide the code as well.I will be thankful.Since i am involved in a project which involves this it is Urgent.

You can't just display data from a text file in a JTable. You have you understand the structure of the data so that you can parse the data and create a table model that can access the data in a row/column format. Here is an example of a simple program that does this:

I don't see how this question is at all related to Digital I/O but it sounds like you just need a shift register with the concantanate string function.

How to handle different date formats ?

I'm currently writing an application that has to be compatible with different database backends.
But I have some problems with the date/time fields when using Oracle as a db backend:
After searching the forums, I found a solution for my "inserts" problem:

This gives me "2004-03-25 15:59:44.0" for the timestamp !
when I run exactly the same query in the Oracle SQL*Plus console, I get the correct format:

I already tried the trick with the NLS_DATE_FORMAT before retrieving the data, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

- ojdbc14.jar (Oracle thin jdbc driver)

It is correct indeed that I want to keep it as vendor neutral as possible, because other databases will
be added in the (near) future (such as IBM's DB2)
I already thought about formatting it using the SimpleDateFormat class, but then I have to rewrite most
of the code in my dbAdapter, because it doesn't know anything about the field types.
It just launches standard SQL queries and returns the result back to the requesting object
