How to tell DVD Studio that my assets are 16:9

I'm burning a PAL DVD with a jpeg(720x576) menu that I created so that it would look right when squashed and have a short quicktime movie that's currently 4:3 (720x576) but taken from a 16:9 original so it's anamorphically stretched.
From reading various posts here it seems creating a 16:9 DVD that'll use all the available pixels of the format for the best pcture quality is a bit of a minefiled. I've only been able to produce letterboxed DVDs so far with dirty great black bands. Otherwise, I can produce full-frame DVDs, but my telly doesn't flick into widescreen mode automatically and stretch the picture to get the full effect (like it does with a shop-bought movie)
As I understand it, my error is that my assets - the jpeg and the quicktime movie - aren't 'flagged' as anamorphic. It seems that if this was the case, getting a 16:9 DVD that plays properly is a piece of cake. So - how do I make it so that my assets are 'flagged' correctly before I start making the DVD?
Any help much appreciated

You use the right preset in PS CS2, AE etc. You encode the 16:9 stuff as 16:9 and you use MPEG Append on those files. See the Force Anamorphic info.
In dvdsp anything 16:9 should be automatically set to 16:9 when imported but you can adjust things in the PI. Select the item in the Graphical View and set the display mode,

  • How to import DVD Studio Pro Menu into Motion?

I would like to change the colors of one of the templates in DVD Studio Pro. In particular the .psd menu file. Is there a way to import the .psd file into Motion and change the color. Or maybe there is an easier way of doing this. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can. You can import a Motion project file directly into DVD Studio Pro, though when I tried it took a loooooong time (depends on the size and complexity of the project of course). Here's a tutorial on how to do that:
    http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-use-dvd-studio-pro-4-with-motion-53426/
OR... you can just export your Motion project and import it into DVD SP as a Quicktime file, and put that in the Menu section. Then you can add your buttons and so forth and proceed from there.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

  • I have a 27" iMac with 16GB of factory installed SDRAM and 1T harddrive.  It is telling me the harddrive is full and is not functioning correctly.  How can I adjust so that all files are managed on the harddrive rather than the SDRAM.  (BTW - design flaw)

Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

I have a 27" iMac with 16GB of factory installed SDRAM and 1T harddrive.  It is telling me the harddrive is full and is not functioning correctly.  How can I adjust so that all files are managed on the harddrive rather than the SDRAM.  (BTW - design flaw here.)
Older Macs with a single Harddrive would simply expand OS management on the drive, and I think I understand the new Fusion Drive to do just that, but how do I get this product that I spent a great deal of money on to be more than a pretty screen?

I was confused by this statement
It is telling me the harddrive is full and is not functioning correctly.
OS X manages ram and when you run out, it create swapfiles to extend your ram on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). The OS itself, takes about 16 gig of space and that too resides on the HDD.  Your 16 gig of RAM is really a temporary space that holds things from the HDD so the processor can work on them.  There is no design flaw between your ram and HDD.  Something else is going on and there are a lot of smart people here to help you figure out what that "something else" is.
I would do three things.  First I would create a backup, backups are important.  Second, I would reboot into recovery and repair my HDD.  Lastly while still booted in recovery I would repair permissions.
Can you capture a screen shot of the exact error you are getting?

  • How to get DVD Studio Pro

Hi all. I wonder if some one can help: I'd call the Apple Store but it's Sunday eve and I need this info urgently to price up a job.
How do I get a copy of DVD Studio Pro nowadays? I know it's part of Final Cut now, but do I have to buy Final Cut Studio 2 at more than 800ukp or does it come with Final Cut Express at 130ukp?
I'l be more than a little upset if it isn't bundled with Express: The only reason I'm upgrading is because of the "first play" and "jumps" menu bug that reared its ugly head after a recent Pro Apps update. I feel Apple have really crapped on some of it's customers with this issue, but that's another matter and Apple don't give a proverbial anyway...

The only way to get the current version is with the Final Cut Studio package. But you may be able to find an older version for sale somewhere.

  • "file is not compatible when import assets in dvd studio pro, my file are .mov and .mp4, what is the problem?

i have a MacBook Pro v. 10.7.5, also have dvd studio pro 4.2.2
I have a file exported from final cut v. 7, using quick time movie option, it created a file with .mov. When I import to dvd studio pro, I have an error
message " file is not compatible". shall I export again using different parm? settings? thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks, Russ. I had my problem resolved by re-creating file from Final Cut using the "Video Format" as "MPEG-4 improved" instead of "H.264" before.
My orginial source is a dvd came from Taiwan, I used software 'Handbrake' to convert it to MPEG-4. Input to Final Cut to edit it. Exported out with H.264 as Video Format, wishing to improve the image quality but run into 'file impaitable' when import to DVD SP.
Now. I exported out Final Cut using the following parms, pictures quality is not bad.
    1. File format = MP4
    2. Image size= 1280x720 HD
    3. frame rate = 30
    4. video format = MPEG-4 Improved
hope this help people who might run into same problem. I never use the Compressor, will try it next time. thanks Russ.

  • How come my dvd studio pro 3 is not working properly with leopard? Need help!, How come my dvd studio pro 3 is not working properly with leopard? Need help!

I recently installed os leopard on my power MAC G5 and my DVD studio pro 3 application is not working properly as it used to be. I was unable to create motion menu and build the dvd properly. Then I deleted and reinstall dvd studio pro 3, but it did not solve the problems. What should I do?

I have a sneaking suspicion it won't work in 10.5.x, possibly because of the version of Quicktime...
    System Requirements:
    Mac OS X v10.3.2
733 MHz or faster PowerPC processor (G4 minimum) and AGP graphics card
256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended)
    20 GB available disk space
8 MB of video memory (32 MB recommended)
    QuickTime 6.5
    DVD drive required for installation
I think your going to need a dual boot Mac with 10.4.x on another drive or partition.

  • How to tell my Mac that Windows can be booted?

    Hey! Hello again.
I have found myself in a very stressing situation: I can`t boot windows.
Windows can't be recognized as an OS right now.
I got a windows partition using bootcamp and I was happy with it for almost a year, but recently(the last week) I installed Avast and I don't know what happened, it deleted some file that allowed windows to load and when the windows loading screen ended, it always made my Mac to restart.
So, tired of seeing which files were required to make windows start, I created another windows partition with Disk Utility (boot camp didn't allow me).
And the plan was to have all my files on the new windows and then delete the "corrupted" one. But I'm a GENIUS (sarcasm), I didn't consider that the first windows partition was "official" and made by Boot Camp, so, now, the new Windows can't even appear on the white screen when choosing OS's.
I press Alt (option) on the white screen and only Snow Leopard appears. The only way I see to solve my problem is to backup my files on an external HD and delete the partitions (except for mac, of course).
I added a picture to show the mess I created, don't flame me, I'm experimenting.

    Wrong course of action.
    Should have uninstalled
    rollback (restore points)
    boot from Windows DVD
    you can't create more partitions
you could have just done a new install and reformatted the old partition
then setup backup system image for restore in the future
undo what you did and try a new direction.

  • How to tell EM Repo that an Oracle Agent VM is gone (perm)

    Hi all,
We have an Oracle Managed Agent on a VM in our plug-in development environment, and that VM is gone (and not coming back up). The OEM Repo now thinks there are still targets deployed.
I need to undeploy those plug-ins, but can't because the repo says the agent is unreachable.
Is there a way to 'tell' the EM Repo that the agent is gone, so we can clean up and the repo no longer thinks there is an agent with plug-ins/targets deployed?
    Thanks for any feedback,
    Ed

    Thanks for the responses all!
By deleting the targets one by one (I used CLI), the "emcli delete_target" command reported it was deleted successfully. However, looking in the EM UI, it was still 'undeploying' from the agent. So it wasn't marked as 'done' in the repo.
By using the emcli delete_target command with the -delete_monitored_targets option, it removed it without problem.
    Thanks again.

  • How do I make it that my Contacts are on my phone instead of iCloud?

I just recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. My contacts used to be on my phone itself. However, now they are in a group called "All iCloud" and "All on My iPhone" is empty. I dont like have groups. I would much rather all my contacts be on my phone. How would I go about fixing this?

You would have to compare them to Address Book on you mac to see.

  • DVD Studio Pro Asset Question

I have been rendering out to .mov files using QuickTime conversion out of Final Cut Pro. However, each time I try to import this .mov file as an asset in DVD Studio Pro it gives me an error stating incompatible format. How do I need to be rendering out of Final Cut so that it is an acceptable file format for DVD Studio Pro?

Why are you doing a QT conversion?
    And what you converting to?
    h.264? Won't work.
Export QT/Current Settings/Audio and Video/Self contained and use compressor to go to m2v and dolby 2

  • How can i get a video file with subtitle out of DVD Studio Pro?

i got a project for a dvd in dvd studio pro. There are subtitles which i created within dvd studio pro.
Now i want make a web version of the video with the subtitle, how can i get to this?

    Hi Mr. Cutter,
There is an app called "D-Subtitler for Mac" (as well as several others)
which should allow you to extract the subtitles from a copy of the
finished dvd and use them otherwise.
It's been awhile since I had to do it but it is a fairly common need
    so the software exists.

  • DVD Studio Pro tries to open unrelated files...Please help.

Ok, here is my problem, and I'm not even sure if this is the right forum for my question. I recently tried to install a .componet file for Garage Band and it didn't work. When I Control Click and get to the "Get Info" option it says that this .componet file is an "iDVD 2 Project". Upon further inspection most of my .plugin files are marked the same when they are not.
Is there any way to change how these files are open...or at least tell DVD Studio Pro that these are not the types of files it thinks they are?

You say iDVD & dvdsp... and yep this is more of an OS issue... but when you get info why not go to the 'Open with' section and choose the app you want to use to open the file type with. Then hit the Change All.. button,

  • Creating BITC DVD with FCP and DVD Studio Pro

    Ok so here's my question:
I've created a sequence with BITC, and now I want to export it to DVD studio pro so I can burn it to a dvd. I've been exporting as a quicktime movie, at DV PAL Anamorphic res. When I bring it into DVD Studio as an asset, it has to re-encode.
Can I drop one of these steps - ie. how do I export from FCP so that the resulting file does not need to be re-encoded in DVD studio.
I'm sure this is really very simple, but it's going to help me a lot - I have several (10-15) hours of footage to do this with. Thanks in advance...

export the file as a QT not self-contained use current settings
luanch Compressor, drag and drop the QT file on to the window then encode to get
M2V video and AC3 sound file
    import those into DVDSP

  • Need 101 course for DVD Studio Pro

I have a 5 minute rendered file with video in 1920x1080. I have it both passed through Compressor and as a 46 GB Quicktime uncompressed movie. I need to have this on DVD by mid June so I'm sort of in a rush. What would be the best and quickest way to learn how to use DVD Studio Pro for a very simple DVD, just a full screen photo with PLAY button and maybe some music and the movie itself? I would use iDVD but I was told it might not handle the HD. Then I'd need to know how to use iDVD.
I used to use DVD Studio Pro but when I upgraded I was no longer able to navigate the new interface (that and it's been a while).
I also dislike the templates in iDVD as well as DVD Studio Pro.
    Thank you
    Shelley

    >I would use iDVD but I was told it might not handle the HD
You DO know that DVD is a standard definition format ... don't you?  If you want to make a disc that will play in DVD players, it has to be standard definition content.  Your HD footage will need to be downscaled to SD either in Compressor (recommended) or in DVD Studio Pro, if you let it do the encoding.
You can burn an HD DVD, but it will only play on later model Macs and a couple of (now obsolete) Toshiba HD DVD players.
Your other option for HD content on optical disc is Blu-ray.
