Dear All,
As a DBA how can we trace the drop cammand in database to know who droped , deleted the tables or deleted data from tables or droped directory from dba_directories.
Thanks,

Thanks Kamran,

  • How to trace which user shutdown oracle database in unix OS?

    our organization is having 10 DBA with sysdba priviladge. We are using UNIX operating system. At morning say for example if some one (SYSDBA user) shutdown the oracle database how other sysdba user trace the user who shutdown the database? the information i need is terminal from where oracle got shutdown and the username? Please help...

    Hello,
    You are right Sybrand, SYSDBA connections are always audited.
    My answer was about enabling auditing to any connections, which may give informations about who access to the Database in general. And, this is true, it was not the scope of the OP question.
    However, so as to enlarge audit of SYS/SYSDBA/SYSOPER operations, setting the parameter audit_sys_operations=TRUE may be interesting:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e16543/auditing.htm#DBSEG0611
    To the OP:
    Where the audit tracefile get genareted for sys user?You may execute this:
    show parameter audit_file_destThank again Sybrand for correcting me.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Internal Behaviour of Truncate Table Command in Oracle Database

    Hi,
    Can anyone let me know the internal behaviour of Truncate Table Command in Oracle Database?
    Thanks,
    Harshad.

    Hi Tuhinshoor,
    I know the functioning of Truncate Command.
    But, I needed to know whether it drops the table before recreating it, maintaining all the indexes and constraints intact??
    Thanks,

  • How to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet

    how to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet.
    I need to import columns and there datas from oracle database to microsoft excel sheet.
    Please let me know the different ways for doing this.
    Thanks.

    asktom.oracle.com has an excellent article on writing a PL/SQL procedure that dumps data to an Excel spreadsheet-- search for 'Excel' and it'll come up.
    You can also use your favorite connection protocol (ODBC, OLE DB, etc) to connect from Excel to Oracle and pull the data out that way.

    insert,update,delete rows in view object instance cache is good but if i must do some complex operations while insert,update,delete rows..it's more better for me to call

    Roman,
    this should be similar to how it worked in JDeveloper 9.0.3. hava a look at <JDev903 Home>\BC4J\samples\StoredProc for a code example.

  • How I enable network service of Oracle database 10g XE ?

    Hi,
    How I enable network service of Oracle database 10g XE ?
    Following error occurs when printing:
    ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either
    the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.

    ORA-20001 is a user defined error. So you will have to find out where it comes from.

  • How to trace a USER in oracle?

    Hi Sir,
    I have a rquirement that I need to Trace a session created through the Application. The only data I have is that I know the application will connect to a Database schema and nothing else. How is it possilbe that I can create a trace file for it.
    Also is it possilble, that i can trace complete user. how to find all the trace as it create number of process inturn number of trace, how do I find it and combine. I read the documentation but can't understand it clearly?
    Any help will be great.

    Aman, thanks for replying. This is the problem, they have not implemented dbms_application_info.
    That is the reason I want to know how to trace user(all session of a schema) and combine all the session generated trace(something like trcsess) and then generate tkprof. I am on Oracle 10g.Well, first off, users connect to databases, they don't connect to schemas. And as a follow on, users have sessions, schemas don't.
    That said, you might investigate a logon trigger that initiates a 1046 trace. Something like this:
    -- create a logon trigger for capturing extended trace data
    -- NOTE: must be run as SYS
    -- NOTE: Be sure to change both occurances of the target username
    -- ('user = xxx' and 'TRACEFILE_IDENTIFIER=') to the
    -- correct value for the session you want to trace.
    create or replace trigger logon_trigger
    after logon on database
    begin
    if (user = 'SCOTT' ) then
    execute immediate 'ALTER SESSION SET TRACEFILE_IDENTIFIER=''SCOTT_APP''';
    execute immediate 'alter session set timed_statistics=true';
    execute immediate 'ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS ''10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 12''';
    end if;
    exception
    when others then
    null;
    end;
    end;
    Of course, you can play around with the 'if' condition, and delete or disable the trigger when it is no longer needed. The resulting trace file can be run through tkprof.

  • How do i connect to the oracle database

    I just downloaded oracle 9i from your website. I wanted to know how do I receive or create my own username and password so I can access the oracle database.

    Hi,
    Two user accounts are automatically created with the database:
    SYS (default password: CHANGE_ON_INSTALL)
    SYSTEM (default password: MANAGER)
    (More info at : http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/server.920/a96521/dba.htm#852)
    Both these accounts are database adminstrators. You can use either of these to connect to your database and create more users.
    To create new users use this SQL command after connecting to your database
    SQL> CREATE USER <username> IDENTIFIED BY <password>
    SQL> GRANT CREATE SESSION TO <username>
    For more information on creating users refer to http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/server.920/a96521/users.htm#16513
    Hope this helps.

  • Please help, urgent! How to hold the connection to oracle database

    I used java to connect Oracle database using thin driver. But I found out the connection will be closed very soon if I did not make any request of query. I query the database like after 1 mins without doing anything, my application will dead for about 2 mins, then everything become normal again.
    How can I hold the connection or is there any other solution? thank you!

    Duffy is, as usual, correct. If you have a single-user environment, then holding onto a connection is probably okay (not desirable but also not pernicious). However, once you have more than one user, you will want to use a connection pool. Jakarta Commons (jakarta.apache.org) has an open source pool that is reliable.
    But the fact that you are having additional problems makes me believe you are missing a few fundamental concepts, such as transactions. Even if the connection dropped, you should be able to reconnect without issue (granted, with some additional latency). The only time it would pose an issue (above and beyond the ones mentioned above and in previous replies) is if you are not managing your transactions properly.
    In short, take some tutorials on JDBC, DataSource, connection pools and transaction management.

  • How to execute remote query by Oracle Database Link

    I use Oracle Database Link to query data from SQL Server. The query is like:
    select *
    from tableA@DL_SqlServer a
    join tableB@DL_SqlServer b
    on a.ID = b.ID*
    tableA and tableB is large and the result is relatively small. This query executes quickly in SQL Server since indexes are built both on the two tables. But it is very slow on Oracle Database Link to SQL Server.
    I guess the join operation is performed on Oracle side not on SQL Server side, thus the indexes are not used. Since I just need the joined result, I prefer to perform the query entirely on SQL Server and get the small result only. But I have no privilege to create views on SQL Sevrer.
    I konw that using SQL Server's linked server and OPENQUERY function can achieve this goal. I wonder how to do this on Oracle Database Link. Thanks!

    DO NOT DO THIS....specifically:
    "select *
    from tableA@DL_SqlServer a
    join tableB@DL_SqlServer b
    on a.ID = b.ID*"
    You would be better off to do the following:
    create a Materialized View in Oracle and once/day (or as frequently as you feel necessary) pull the data from SQLServer and then do the join locally by creating MV as TABLEA_MV and TABLEB_MV and then have views that have the REALTABLEA and REALTABLEB names that point to these MVs. This can be done without recompiling or changing your code. Trust me, I have seen this sort of thing in the past that completely crippled an IBM mainframe using DB2 along with a major network segment by having this sort of join via DB links. You must understand the ramifications of your "design" and I can tell you for certain that it is a very BAD!!! idea... Fix this before you are issuing another command: "alter DBA update resume/CV;"
    The app went into production at 7AM. By 9:30AM, the mainframe had executed more than 10Billion I/O's. It took > 15hrs for the mainframe to recover once we shutdown the app and implemented the view/MV described above.
    I will leave it as an excercise for the OP to develop the syntax for this.

  • Setting priority of order of DELETE -vs- INSERT commands in Oracle database

    Hi,
    I have an .NET application which has a DELETE command (e.g. Delele from MyTable where id = 1) immediately followed by an INSERT command (e.g. INSERT INTO MyTable (id, field1, field2) values (1, 'x', 'y').
    We are not using transactions, so the commands are independent.
    MyTable has a unique constraint on the id column.
    On occasion, I am getting an error "ORA-00001 : unique constraint ... violated."
    I speculate that the INSERT command is being processed by the database before the DELETE command.
    Would you know if the priority of INSERT commands can be set higher to DELETE commands? How could I set this on my database (for testing purposes)?
    Thanks!

    One piece of the puzzle that I nelgected to mention...
    This DELETE/INSERT scenario is happening in an ASP.NET application going through Oracle's .NET driver (ODP.NET).
    The DELETE and INSERT are run with the autocommit feature of ODP.NET (I assume this translates into a separate transaction for each of these two statements).
    We have the "connection pooling" enabled (for the ODP.NET). Maybe because of the connection pooling, might ODP.NET be reversing the order of the DELETE and UPDATE commands?
    A problem I have is that I cannot see this problem occur on my server: the problem only occurs on the customer's server. He has reported several occurances of the problem.
    Do you think the Oracle session tracing will be of help if I cannot reproduce the problem (on my machine)?
    Thanks for you help so far!
    (clarification: The DELETE is run and "auto-committed", the immediately, the INSERT is run and "auto-committed")

  • How to store image in the oracle database 10.2.

    Hi.,
    I am working on 10g ids. I have designed a form where there are two fields. Name and picture.
    I want to keep details of the person with their photo.
    I can simply put name but how to insert image in the picture field??
    can you suggest ??
    Thanks.
    Shyam

    Hi
    To store your binary images in an Oracle database, you will need to create a column in your table defined with the BLOB datatype BLOB stands for Binary Large Object. Images from scanners, mpeg files, movie files and so on can all be stored in the BLOB column
    sq>CREATE TABLE test_table (
       id NUMBER,
       image BLOB);then go to

    Read this:
