How to trace pl/sql code version over time

Hi,
As there are many pl/sql developers in the office I work in, we're thinking about how to mantain the old versions of pl/sql code and, above all, to forbid two different programmes to work on the same code at the same time.
I've been told we could use Subversion (http://subversion.apache.org/) also for pl/sql
What do you generally use for this target? Do you use Subversion or what else?
Thanks in advance!

PL/SQL code is no different than Java code, C/C++ code, or any other code. So why should using a version control system like Subversion be used any differently (or not work correctly) for PL/SQL code?

  • How to use pl/sql code as ODI user defined function

    Hi All,
    i have a pl/sql code and i want to create ODI user defined function using this code .
    please find the pl/sql code below:
    ============================
    declare
    v_no_of_duplicate_rec number := 0;
    begin
    select count(*)
    into v_no_of_duplicate_rec
    from ( select 1
    from temp_pre_selections
    group by svb_number, selection_id
    having count(*) > 1);
    if v_no_of_duplicate_rec = 0 then
    return 'N';
    else
    return 'Y';
    end if;
    end if;
    ==========================
    please help me how to achieve the same .
    Thanks
    Vinod

    2 ways:
    a. implement logic in odi function directly: getCount, Oracle implementation:
    select case count(1) when 0 then 'N' else 'Y' end
    from hr.employees
    when you use this function to refresh a variable, the refresh statement should only be getCount, you shoueld not write select getCount from dual, otherwise it will become
    select select .... from ... from dual
    b. if your logic is complex, I suggest to write function directly in your database, then call this function in your ODI function
    eg:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION hr.test RETURN varchar2 IS
    tmpVar NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    select count(1) into tmpVar from hr.employees;
    if tmpVar=0 then
    return 'N';
    else
    return 'Y';
    end if;
    END test;
    then create a ODI function, Oracle implementation is
    hr.test
    in your variable refresh statement, you can write select getCount from dual
    if you use the odi function in other locations expect for refreshing variable, the idea is similar

  • How to encrypt PL/SQL Code?

    Hi All,
    I want to share our application code to third party. I don't want them to see our application PL/SQL Code.
    I have tried wrapper utility provided by Oracle, however there are un-wrappers available.
    Please Let me know the options available to hide my PL/SQL code.
    Thanks in advance
    Madhu

    As Billy says, the only proper way is through legal means.
    The next best thing is the wrap utility.  Yes, people have produced unwrappers out there, but most companies don't have their own software developers (otherwise they're less likely to be buying code from you), so won't be unwrapping it anytime soon.
    I've seen some 3rd party tools that try and obfuscate the code by turning all your variables and suchlike into meaningless names, making it hard for people to follow the code even if they can read it, so if you find a good one of those, and then wrap it as well, you're making it hard for people.
    DBMS_CRYPTO, as suggested by the first response on this thread, isn't an option as that is for encrypting or hashing etc. of data, not of PL/SQL code... at least not if you want Oracle to be able to execute the code still.

  • How do I restore an adjusted version from Time Machine?

    I use time machine.
    How do I restore an adjusted version?
    E.g. I take a 1000 pix, bring them into a project, spend a few days making adjustments.
    Client cancels project.
    I delete project.
    Month later I figure out a new market for that project.  (Yeah, I shouldn't have been so quick to delete...Work with me)
    I can restore the masters from Time Machine. (I use referenced images)
    How do I recover my adjustments, without overwriting my library?  Groveling through the .aplibrary they are stored as xml files, but there is a chane of references and set of encoding that is not transparent.
    At this point the ONLY way I can see is to:
    *  Rename my present library
    *  Restore the entire library, whcih if I have lots of images can take hours.
    *  Find the project.
    *  Export the project.
    *  Delete extra library.
    *  Rename my original library.
    While this gets my adjustments back, it does NOT get them back in an editable form.  they are now locked in.
    Is there a way to export versions as version info?  E.g. as an xml file that sits in the same directory as the master?
    Spin the question differently.  How can I send YOU a set of versions of a particular master, WITHOUT copying the data of the master for each version.
    Say we have referenced files on a network server.  I want to send you a version, but NOT the master.
    E.g.  I send you ONE master, and 6 versions of it.  In YOUR version of aperture how can you load the 6 versions to continue tweeking them.

    There is another, huge thread on TM backups on this forum and exactly this issue has come up. Sadly, no one has a perfect answer. I do not have a spare drive available to test this myself, but I would try something along these lines.
    -- Ask TM to restore your full Library and the Masters, if Referenced. I believe that TM will give you the option to not overwriting your current Library, but be careful. However you do, stick this "Recovery Library" out somewhere. (Yes, this is gonna take some time, run it overnight.)
    -- Open "Recovery" with Aperture and select the Project(s) that contain the images you want. Export these "Projects as New Library."  (Don't export as either Versions or Masters.) I would select the box "Consolidate Masters" and I would probably discard the Previews. Stick this somewhere.
    -- Now open "Original Library" and import the "Library" that you exported back into your Original Library as something like "Stupid Lost Project."
    -- You should now have a Project full of adjusted, and adjustable images. (N.B. this is basically the technique I use with my laptop. I shoot, load into AP3 on the laptop, noodle, and then export/import into AP3 on the MacPro when I get home.)
    -- Clean up. (Delete "Recovery", convert the recovered Project back to Referenced Masters, if you wish, etc.)
    One good argument for never throwing those old USB drives away.
    I have missed some of the details in the process, so be careful, but I believe that this will work until Apple lets us run Aperture inside Time Machine.
    Best wishes.

  • How to handle security with Auto-Versions and Time Machine?

    I've upgraded to OS X Lion, which of course now has the new automatic "versions" system.
    Today, I created a text file in TextEdit, containing highly sensitive data that I must keep absolutely secure (well, you know -- as best I can.) The file was eventually copied to an encrypted sparse disk image (.dmg) and the original on my desktop deleted trashed and emptied.
    But before that happened, Lion had already saved two copies of the file through the new versions sytem --and-- one copy in regular old Time Machine! So much for keeping the file secure. (OK -- not "copies" but delta data. Whatever. )
    EDIT: OK ... I found how to "Delete all backups ..." from within Time Machine. (I feel silly for not finding that before!) But the real question here relates to manual and auto-save versions from the likes of TextEdit and any residual data that may leave lying around, despite the file seemingly having been deleted.
    My questions should now be fairly obvious ...
    Does "Delete all backups" from within TimeMachine also delete all data from the "versions" system? One would assume so. But I don't like to assume.
    Can one somehow pre-emptively flag a file to not be recorded by versions or Time Machine?
    Someone in some post noted that a file could be "locked" to prevent these issues altogether. But I can find no informtaion about such a thing, either by further googling or poking around in menus locally.
    EDIT: Good grief! You spend ages trying to find something, then you post on here and it magically appears. You can click the title bar of TextEdit to produce a pull-down (that's new!), which shows an option to "Lock".
    So this one is just about answered by myself -- except for the part about whether "version delta" info is also removed when "Delete all backups" is used from within Time Machine.
    Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
    Bryan.

    If you're dealing with highly sensitive data, you should enable FileVault on your primary and backup volumes. That's the only way to ensure that all copies of your files will always be encrypted. Needless to say, you have to be very sure you won't lose the password. Optionally, you can store an alternate decryption key on Apple's servers, but then you have to trust Apple.
    That said, in my opinion it's too soon after the release of Lion to trust FileVault completely.

  • How do I create graph showing savings over time?

    Hey there, I'm trying to create a graph showing savings over time. I only have data for random months (they aren't spread apart evenly) So this chart isn't showing an accurate slope of savings over time. I tried entering months in between the months I have recorded and just leaving the savings amount blank but that deletes the curved slope on the graph. Is there a way and can show only these 7 recorded numbers but have them spread out on the graph to reflect the accurate time?
    Thanks,
    Caleb

    The only way I can see of "stretching" the x-axis into a regular timeline would be to add extra rows for some of the intervening dates and then averaging the both the dates and the amounts from the row above and the row below:
    You can then hide the rows that contain the averaged amounts.
    When you create the chart you'll need to tick the "Hidden data" button under Chart Options:
    After you've created the chart, you can edit the dates on the x-axis to remove any unwanted labels.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to trace the SQL statements executed in a database

    I am using Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.7.0 - 64bit Production on a sun server and I am not familiar with Oracle but with MS SQL there is a tool called profiler, it allows you to monitor and see what is going on in a specific databases whether it is SQL statement executins or anything else. I have installed the oracle enterpise manager console at my windows client and I tried to look for a tool similar to the profiler in the MS SQL. I tried the TRACE DATA VIEWER and I inputed the login credentials but I don' t actually know the service name and I am getting an error ORA-12514 The TSN listener can not resolve the service name given in the connect descriptor. Therefore, am I on the right road so i have to look for the service name or are there any other ways i can trace the currently executing SQL statement in a specific database. I am really stuck there. Abdel MoalimHi
    I see others have answered the network connectivity issues, I'll try and address the tracing issue. Your best bet is to review http://www.petefinnigan.com/ramblings/how_to_set_trace.htm for the many ways in which a sessions SQL and indeed other activity can be traced. In version 7 (which I'm guessing is yours from the sid) the only profiler available was tkprof (Trace Kernel Profiler) which will do a good job of analysing your trace file. The trace files themselves are generated on the server in a protected directory so you may need to ask your dba for access to them. There are other profilers around now (I have one which runs in v9 and higher database at http://www.niall.litchfield.dial.pipex.com/SimpleProfiler/SimpleProfiler.html which will analyse your files for example) but tkprof is the start point - or else just reading the trace file in a text editor. There is also a utility written by the Oracle Apps guys trcanalyzer that will do a good job for you. In general the interface is poor compared with the ms utility but the information is deeper and more helpful

  • How to convert pl/sql code into java/j2ee

    Hi,
    We have a PL/SQL Oracle App server application that we will support if we can convert in j2ee/java. But when i did take a look at the code, these pl/sql contains all HTML and java code inside the stored procedures.
    And iam looking to explore some tools and mechanisms that can convert these pl/sql in a JAVA application so that i can deploy this new app into my BEA81 environment.
    Does any body has any idea:
    a) How to convert from pl/sql > java ?
    b) Any plugins or tools of BEA that can run these pl/sql (the way thay are currently...i.e w/o converting) in BEA 81 container ?
    thanks, sangita

    these pl/sql contains all HTML and java code insideJava or JavaScript. They are not the same. I wouldn't expect to see Java inside html, whereas JavaScript would be intermixed. On the other hand you might have a java stored proc (Oracle 9/10) which is generating HTML.
    >
    Does any body has any idea:Refactor.
    I doubt it just has html and JavaScript/Java. So what you have is a mess that mixes several things that should have been seperate in the first place.

  • How to access PL/SQL code using JDBC

    Hi,
    We have stored procedures written in PL/SQL. These stored procs take both IN and OUT parameters. The parameter types are both regular datatypes like NUMBER, VARCHAR etc. So far so good. I know how to handle these data types.
    Some of the stored procs also use parameters that are defined as composite data types like %ROWTYPE or %RECORD. How would I set the values of these data types? Can I use the oracle extension - support for Oracle Objects to accomplish this. If so please let me know with an example. If not any other suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karthik

    JDBC (and SQLJ) only support SQL types as stored procedure arguments, not PL/SQL types.
    If your stored procedure uses a PL/SQL-only type, such as BOOLEAN, record types, or index-by tables, then you cannot call it from Java (or, for that matter, from other languages as well).
    There is one exception: scalar index-by table arguments have been supported since JDBC 8.1.7 in the JDBC-OCI driver (refer to the JDBC manual for specifics).
    One workaround is to create wrapper PL/SQL stored procedures that take SQL arguments and convert them to PL/SQL -and vice versa- and call the original PL/SQL stored procedures. For example, a record type could be exploded into individual arguments, or it could be converted into a SQL object type, index-by tables could be represented as SQL collection types, etc.
    You can find a small example of this in the back of the JPublisher manual, where an example is given how to call a PL/SQL stored procedure that takes BOOLEAN arguments.
