How to troubleshoot permissions issue

Hi, I have a SharePoint site and have added an AD group to a SharePoint group but users in the AD group still cannot access the site.
When I add the AD group directly to the site it works as expected. Is there any "must check" items that could potentially cause this issue?
Any ideas?

What group you are adding group to, If it is a customer group then what permission is given to that group
This will happen when Permission for that SP group is not proper or has some issue
Use Fiddler trace and check if there is some file\image, etc user does not have permission to
Is that a custom master page or home page is customize?
If this helped you resolve your issue, please mark it Answered

  • [Forum FAQ]How to troubleshoot common issue when configuring user device affinity from usage data

    Symptom:
    Some clients might fail to automatically configure user device affinity from usage data if you have manually configured user device affinity before.
    When you check the UserAffinity.log, you can find the similar error messages as below:
    User 'XXXXX\XXXXX' has xxxxx usage minutes UserAffinity
    Setting auto affinity for user 'XXXXX\XXXXX'. UserAffinity
    Found same state message existing. (was sent before) Skip sending same state message for user 'XXXXX\XXXXX'.. UserAffinity
    Figure 1. Error Message in UserAffinity.log
    Cause:
    As the log said, there is a user affinity state message existing in WMI which prevents client from sending new user affinity state message.
    Resolution:
    We can delete the user affinity state message in WMI to force the client to resend the user affinity state message.
    We can follow the steps below:
      1. Run Windows Management Instrumentation Tester (“Wbemtest”).
      2. In Windows Management Instrumentation Tester dialog box, click “Connect”.(Figure 2)
    Figure 2.
      3. Type “root\ccm\statemsg” under the Namespace table and then click “Connect”.(Figure 3)
    Figure 3.
      4. Click “Enum Classes”. (Figure 4)
    Figure 4.
      5. Choose “Recursive”
    in Superclass Info dialog box.(Figure 5)
    Figure 5.
      6. Double-click “CCM_StateMsg” in Query Result dialog box.(Figure 6)
    Figure 6.
      7. Click “Instances”
    in Object editor for CCM_StateMsg dialog box. (Figure 7)
    Figure 7.
      8. Choose the messages that contain "domain/user_Auto" and click “Delete” in the Query Result dialog box.(Figure 8)
    Figure 8.
    After you delete user affinity state message in WMI, the user affinity state message for the user will be resent. After a period time, we can check the UserAffinity.log to
    see if the user affinity state message has been successfully sent. The related information would be similar as below:
    Successfully sent user affinity state message for user 'xxxxx\xxxxx'.
    Successfully created pending user affinity for user 'xxxxx\xxxxx' into WMI.
    Figure 9.

    I'm not sure whether this is the appropriate place to add this but - a (possible) cause that I have seen which is not mentioned above is a request for an AAAA record (IPv6 address)
    being responded to with an A record (IPv4 address).
    DNS debug logging (Windows 2008 R2 SP1) captured requests to
    192.225.156.200 and the corresponding responses. In each case the response was followed in the debug log by the event “The DNS server encountered an invalid domain name
    in a packet from 192.225.156.200. The packet will be rejected. The event data contains the DNS packet.”
    The domain name in the response was the same as that in the query, and looks OK.
    The logged query shows an AAAA record (IPv6 address) request and the logged response returned an A record (IPv4 address).
    http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc4074.txt “Common
    Misbehavior Against DNS Queries for IPv6 Addresses” says, under “Expected Behavior”:
       Suppose that an authoritative server has an A RR but has no AAAA RR
       for a host name.  Then, the server should return a response to a
       query for an AAAA RR of the name with the response code (RCODE) being
       0 (indicating no error) and with an empty answer section (see
       Sections 4.3.2 and 6.2.4 of [1]).  Such a response indicates that
       there is at least one RR of a different type than AAAA for the
       queried name, and the stub resolver can then look for A RRs.

  • How to fix permissions?

    Hi,
    I'm afraid I might have followed bad advice to solve a problem, which then got me into serious problems. Here's my "story":
    I'm running Mac OSX 10.9.1 on an iMac (2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo). The computer is used by the whole family, so we have 6 user accounts.
    Initial problem: The system requested an admin password every time I wanted to move an item to trash or away from the desktop.
    After a bit of searching, I did the following:
    Chose the Macintosh HD in a finder window.
    Chose "Get info" and the Permissions-section.
    Highlighted "System" and selected Apply all enclosed folders (this text might be slightly different in English, I run my system in Norwegian language)
    This seemed to work, as I no longer need to type password for deleting/moving files. BUT NEW MAJOR PROBLEMS:
    Now all other user accounts doesen't work properly any more:
    No icons are visible on desktop of the other users
    Finder windows on other user accounts closes by them selves whenever I try to do something
    So first I went back to the user account in line nuber 2 above, where I had made the permission changes
    Chose the Macintosh HD in a finder window.
    Chose "Get info" and the Permissions-section.
    Highlighted "System" and selected Reset changes (or whatever the bottom choice is in English)
    No luck - problem still there
    Ran Disk Utility, repair permissions twice - still no luck...
    So if anyone have qualified suggestions on how to get the permissions right, please let me know.
    Thanks a lot!!
    Eldar
    (Needless to say, but anyway: unqualified guesses are really not needed, as that's what escalated the problems from just having to type password to having 5 useless user accounts...)

    Hi,
    considering your "background history", repairing the permissions was not a bad idea.
    However, as explained in "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature", repairing the Permissions with Disk Utility does not affect user data.
    Here is what I can think about
    1. I already had issues with Disk Utility not performing as expected, while its command line counterpart never failed for me. I then suggest you to try repair permissions using Terminal
    diskutil list
    (will give you all the volumes in your system with their disk identifiers)
    Then
    diskutil repairPermissions DISK_IDENTIFIER (e.g. diskutil repairPermissions disk0s2)
    2. Although your fist actions should not have changed these, you can also reset the ACL for each user.
    (By the way, this Mac OS X 10.5 issue sounds like yours, and resetting ACLs is a listed option -> http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1334).
    In Mavericks, however, you will have to
    - restart you system on the Recovery partition (holding CMD + R during boot)
    - once booted, select your language
    - in the menu bar, select "Tools" -> Terminal
    - in Terminal, enter "resetpassword" then hit enter
    - in the Reset Password Utility, select your drive, then select the user that has issues
    - do not enter a new password, just click the Reset ACL button at the buttom.
    - restart your system and test that user

    Regards,

    Hi Rajesh,
    Sorry it took too long to reply back, so I have been investigating that issue and it turned out that the BuildAgentUri property that it is complaining about is now required while it was not in TFS 2010. so this suggests that your build targets file might
    be still 2010. To confirm this, please go to:
    this file C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\TeamBuild\Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Build.targets
    you should fine two definitions for the CreateWorkspaceTask:
     <CreateWorkspaceTask
              TeamFoundationServerUrl="$(TeamFoundationServerUrl)"
              BuildUri="$(BuildUri)"
              BuildDirectory="$(BuildDirectory)"
              SourcesDirectory="$(SolutionRoot)"
              Name="$(WorkspaceName)"
              Comment="$(CreateWorkspaceTaskComment)"
              Condition=" '$(ProjectFileVersion)' != '4'">
          <Output TaskParameter="Name" PropertyName="WorkspaceName" />
          <Output TaskParameter="Owner" PropertyName="WorkspaceOwner" />
        </CreateWorkspaceTask>
        <CreateWorkspaceTask
              TeamFoundationServerUrl="$(TeamFoundationServerUrl)"
              BuildUri="$(BuildUri)"
              BuildDirectory="$(BuildDirectory)"
              BuildAgentUri="$(BuildAgentUri)"
              SourcesDirectory="$(SolutionRoot)"
              Name="$(WorkspaceName)"
              Comment="$(CreateWorkspaceTaskComment)"
              Condition=" '$(ProjectFileVersion)' == '4'">
          <Output TaskParameter="Name" PropertyName="WorkspaceName" />
          <Output TaskParameter="Owner" PropertyName="WorkspaceOwner" />
        </CreateWorkspaceTask>
    if you find only the first definition then this is the problem.
    Please let me know what did you find out.
    Thanks for your patience

  • How do I migrate from one user to another to resolve sleep/permissions issues?

    My MacBook Pro's been having several issues, mainly with waking from sleep. I've tried Repairing Permissions, Repair Disk, running tools like OnyX and Drive Genius, but they can't find any issues. I checked the Console log, and there was some sort of denial from displaying the login window after I woke up from sleep.
    Initially I thought this had to do with some of my peripherals being plugged in when I already had the lid closed; the Mac would wake up, not realize the lid was closed, and never go back to sleep. Nothing--keyboard or trackpad touches--would wake the machine up. I'd have to hard reset by holding the Power button on.
    I had an Apple Genius suggest that I create a new user and test it out with the (same) default sleep settings as the buggy user account. It wakes up from sleep lightning fast, and has thus far never had any issues.
    I'm leaning toward sticking with this new user and migrating over my things bit by bit, to try and avoid potential permissions issues. But since I don't know where the source of this sleep problem lies, how should I go about it?
    I've read through Pondini's Transfer Guide here http://pondini.org/OSX/Transfer.html, but I'm just wondering where people would start, knowing that the machine has had permissions issues with some files. (The permissions issues, btw, I believe were caused by a mangled Time Machine restore. I replaced my internal HD with another one, but the Time Machine/Migration Assistant restore wasn't complete. I did it a second time from within the user account that got created, then tried to delete the malformed one and rename the complete one, but that's when the issues started.)

    I wasn't intending to move the entire home folder, rather, moving things like what's inside my Documents folder in chunks.
    From what I read, tracking down the origin of sleep/wake problems on a computer is notoriously hard, especially if Disk Utility and similar tools don't give any clues during Repair Disk or Repair Permissions. Creating the new user seemed to help, but I don't know why that alone would "fix" anything, so I haven't moved any files as of yet nor done anything with the new user account.
    Trying to move the things from my Library folder to my desktop also seems a bit risky; it's hidden in Lion and Mountain Lion because a lot of system files are there, right? Wouldn't moving them cause problems, not just help me find what file/folder (if any) could be the culprit?

    Hello.   The link FAQ: How do I troubleshoot audio issues when importing .MTS files?
    does not work, and i need the answer please. My imported MTS clips are not playing back audio because it seems that no audio imported with the video.   Thanks, Don.

    Hi there
    Audio plays when the object with the audio assigned appears. This is why you hear it when the Button appears.
    Try assigning the audio instead to the object that appears when you click the button. Perhaps the caption.

    simply try doing a back up and restore
    when going thru the activation screen, select SET UP AS NEW and then test your device. if it is not shutting down then it could be 1 or more apps tht have been downloaded wch could be affecting the device
    you will then need to follow the process of eleimnation, meaning add 2 apps and then monitor your phone, if nothing happes then add another couple of them and then check
    good luck !!

  • How to troubleshoot JVM performance issues

    We recently had a performance issue with our application running on Java 1.4.2 on Windows where the CPU utilization was extremely high. Using the +PrintClassHistogram option I was able to determine that a char array was utilizing more than 500 megabytes of memory.
    My question is, is there another option I can include or process I can follow that would help me determine which object was creating this array?
    I am not a Java programmer so I apologize if this is elementary question or if I posted this in the wrong forum. I am the SA they call when the application is not running correctly. I have been reading this forum and the manuals trying to find something that would assist me. The developers will fix the problem after I pinpoint where the problem is.
    We do not have any type of JVM profiler so I am trying to troubleshoot this issue with thread dumps and JVM options. My assumption is that if a profiler can retrieve the information I should be able to. Is this a correct assumption?
    Lastly, if we were to purchase a profiler does anyone have a recommendation on which one to use? Our latest version of the application utilizes Java 5 so we would need something that would work with both versions of Java if possible.
    Any assistance or recommendations anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    This is a management problem. If you have a performance problem then you should be calling the developers and telling them to figure it out and that they need to fix it. You certainly shouldn't be looking at code or profilers.
    Unless you have plenty of time on your hands and your goal is to become a developer.
    But regardless...
    Buying a profiler is an option but if you go that route then to figure out a solution you will be a java programmer even if that isn't your title.
    You should however figure out how to simulate load on the server, even with a profiler. There are tools that allow you to send things like http requests, web service requests, etc. Simulating load is a good idea even without a profiler. It allows you to estimate future system needs dependent upon future company growth.
    Note that profiling really slows down an application so an app that can handle 10 requests a second might only be able to do 1 a second or less while being profiled.

    If it has a cloud icon it means its no longer on your device.  Tapping on the cloud will effectively reinstall the App from scratch to your device.
    There is no way to remove it from the cloud because its not yours to remove from there. Its the general App repository, you are just given access to it to download content you've already purchased.

  • How to troubleshoot intermittent Internet Issue at a primary school

    I would change the password on your wireless and only hand it out to staff that need it or as they ask for it one by one.  That gives you a way to see what is connecting to your network and when it goes down you have a small number of staff that you know have the password.  I would be suspicious also of a AP possibly being set in a bridge mode and is causing a loop in your system.  The DNS could also be a cell phone or cellular enabled laptop/tablet that is sharing it's connection and causing a problem with your system.

    I have been struggling for three or four weeks trying to resolve this issue. I am now of the opinion that there are two different issues here each contributing to the problem.To give you a breakdown. The school has two servers, one internet caching/filtering/proxy server, 20 computers, 45 laptops (most wired in, not wireless) and a dozen ipads.About three weeks ago I received reports that the Internet was very slow and timing out frequently. After spending some time troubleshooting the issue, I decided to shut down the children's computers (unplug from network), the wireless access points and the shared area computers. I only had one switch running as I connected everything to that switch.
    I left it for about three days - everything seemed to work. So I added the kids computers. Internet continued to work without any issues, but we...

  • How have you migrated user data? (Permissions issues).

    So far our upgrade from Tiger server to SL server has been fairly painless. I chose to do a completely clean install and then migrate users at a later date (after exporting them from the original configuration). I do have a complete bootable clone of the Tiger server install, so I can go back to that install at any time to check on things, so that's been a real help.
    But here is one snag I should have anticipated: permissions issues! I've tried several times now to migrate a single user account from Tiger server to SL server. But I'm getting massive permissions issues on the account. I've tried migrating the user data using Carbon Copy Cloner, or copying the file via. the Finder (what a pain), and in both cases when I login as that user on a client machine I have only read access (or even no access) to critical files.
    What methods have you used to successfully migrate user's directories? Alternately, what did you do to fix permissions issues for migrated users?
    Thanks.

    i use rsync for all transfers and then make sure ownership and perms align.
    are you talking about moving homedir data from old server to new, homedirs on client machines, or something else entirely? regardless, you'll need to ensure all of the pieces work together. stay away from finder copies or most gui tools. you'll have more control and more reliable results from the command line. passenger offers some folder migration functionality if you need a gui, though i've never used it for that. http://macinmind.com/?pid=2&progid=1&subpid=1

  • BIDS - report file permissions issue on master, yet im a sysadmin when running the RDL from SSMS

    Im building a report file and when I preview the report, it fails because my account cant access the master database.
    My dataset is just calling xp_readerrorlog, which is in master.
    I can call it just fine in a query window, but not from BIDS, using a connection with windows security.
    I can however, preview the dataset ok, but when I open the RDL file from SSMS under custom reports, I get an login error.
    However, if I preview the report...it fails and says the login failed, login failed for user mydomain\myuser ....

    Hi,
    It seems a permissions related issue, try the following methods to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. Use this form of giving the user exec rights on extended stored procedure.
    create user usename for login login
    go
    grant exec on xp_readerrorlog to username
    Refer to:

    2. Run BIDS as administrator and see how it works.
    3. Also, check the SQL event log (SQL Server Management Studio > Management > SQL Server Logs) and post the full error message for the failed login.
    Thanks.
