How to update SCCM 2012 R2 components?

Hi all,
Maybe a little bit dummy question, but how can I update SCCM? In WSUS I didn't find Configuration Manager. Is it included into System Center category? Or is there any official site where I can download the updates?
Kind regards,
Dvijne

Hi,
You have to download and install the updates manually, they are not published in WSUS,
Here is the link to CU4
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3026739
You can use the Servicing extension to get an alert when new updates are available.  http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2014/12/09/now-available-microsoft-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-servicing-extension.aspx

I updated SCCM 2012 R2 from CU3 to CU4. Where can I find good directions on what else I need to do to make this work? I'm assuming I have to deploy the new clients?
    Thanks,

You have to create different collections (x64 vs x86 clients) because the .msp to be deployed is architecture specific.
"Distribute content" just distributes binaries to distribution points. You can select a collection there, but that has nothing to do with clients. It just distributes content to DPs that are assigned to collections.

Ok. That is helpful. I appreciate the response. I hate to ask another question, but I', still learning the product. In the Step-by-Step SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 Installation Guide from System Center Dudes, it says to create the collections by using their predefined
queries. I tried to enter these as queries but I think I am doing so in the wrong area of the collection creation process. Could you break it down for me?
Do you know of any good training (free) that is video based an breaks SCCM 2012 R2 down into smaller more detailed steps?
    Thanks,

  • How to check SCCM 2012 SP1 license?

    Hi,
I have SCCM 2012 SP1 and the program is licensed.
    I must know :
    1. How to check SCCM 2012 SP1 edition is Standard or Datacenter?
    2. How limit of SCEP (Endpoint Protection) client that can managed by SCCM 2012 SP1 Standard or Datacenter?
    Regards, Bar Waelah

There is no limitations or feature changes between standard and datacenter.
You can read more about the new licensing model for System Center 2012 here:

If you don't know which license you have bought i think you need to Contact Microsoft.

  • How to enable SCCM 2012 clients to get Windows Updates through SSL VPN

I would like my SCCM 2012 client laptops to get Windows Updates through SSL VPN.
I suppose I need to add VPN Subnet in my boundary and boundary group.
What other setting I need to enable?
At this moment, on the 'Software Update Point Component Properties' "Allow intranet-only client connections" radio button is active. Do I neeed to select "Allow both intranet and internet client connections" and Enable SSL communications
    for the WSUS server?
or are there something else I need to check?

No, a VPN client is no different than a client connected internally as far as the network is concerned and as far as ConfigMgr is concerned there is no way to explicitly know any different. Internet clients literally are those that connect via the Internet
    using IBCM.

  • How to change SCCM 2012 R2 Product key?

    Dear All
I need changing SCCM 2012 R2 product Key i was using another company Product key by mistake, i discovered that after finishing installation and Configuration my server become a live now so can any one help me to change it.
    note:-
No way to remove the site and reinstall again.
Thanks for your help in Advance.

You change your product key by running ConfigMgr 2012 setup. You can following this guide for how-to: http://www.ronnipedersen.com/2012/05/convert-system-center-2012-from-evaluation-to-full-product-version/
Normally this procedure is for changing the evaluation version of ConfigMgr 2012 to the full version by specifying a full version product key.
I have done a lot of ConfigMgr 2012 installations for various customers and the key has always been the same.
Thanks, but its already activated with another key and i cannot find this option

  • How to Upgrade SCCM 2012 if DB is Corrupt

I have attempted a couple upgrades to SCCM 2012 SP1 to R2.  In each case it appears my DB is corrupt so the upgrade cannot be accomplished.  /testdatabaseupgrade on a separate system indicates several problems.
Is there a means of repairing the DB or am I stuck contacting Microsoft for assistance?  Or do I need to start over with a new instance of SCCM 2012 R2?

Don't upgrade if /testdbupgrade failed. You have to fix the issues first. Which problems did you see?

I'm wondering if there is a way to discover user group only (ignore computer group) in SCCM 2012?
    Jason

    Hi,
Also note that by default, only security groups are discovered. However, you can discover the membership of distribution
groups when you select the checkbox for the option Discover the membership of distribution groups on
    the Option tab
in the Active Directory Group Discovery Properties dialog box.

  • How to trick SCCM 2012 R2 to use fixed disk

We have bought a sh-tload of Kingston datatraveler workspace 32gb in order to use them as OS installation media.
However because of this: "Windows 8 Certification
requires flash drive manufacturers to configure flash drives as fixed disks. Flash drives configured as fixed disk will show up in Windows Explorer as 'Hard Disk Drives'." - The SCCM task sequence media creator will
only look for removable media, it will
not look for fixed drives. So we can't use the USB-drives..
    Any solution?

  • SCCM report data are missing inside report since Update SCCM 2012 to R2 Cu1

    Hi All,
I encountered an issue regarding certains SCCM reports after migrating to SCCM R2 CU1.
After this upgrade, I've already encountered some issues on differents reports .. reports where we need to select a collection or patches or computers from a drop list (all theses drop list were empty).
I resolved these issues by adding the "read" security permission in the security role dedicated to our Support Team. (Read permission is now applied on Collections, Packages ect...)
This sort of report works well now.
But this same Team show me another issue where I did not find any resolution.
In the categorie called "Hardware - General", we have a report named "Computer information for a specific computer" where, as you know, we normally could find some informations regarding a computer.
In fact, the only informations which are visible through this report are the NetbiosName,Username, Domain User & computer and IP adress.
All others informations are not displayed.
If I use this report with a user who has admin rights in SCCM (which is not the fact with my support team of course) ...all informations are displayed normally.
It seems that it looks like the first read rights issue that I encountered at the beginning, but I did not find where could be the cause of this issue
Does anyone has already seen this sort of issue ?

In CM12R2 RBA is now enabled for report. So this tell me that you have NOT grant the support team access to the data and therefore this is normal.
There is a quick fix for this see Brian post.

  • Handling of pending reboot, exclusive updates for patch management with SCCM 2012

    Hello,
Planning to use SCCM 2012, I would like to understand how smart is SCCM 2012 when dealing with specific patch management situation.
    Assuming I have the following:
    - A given server to be patched is missing a lot of updates, several being mutually exclusive. This typical case will require several reboot / patching to properly obtain a server fully up to date.
    - A given server to be patched is in pending reboot state because the local admin installed new software and has not restarted the server yet as requested
    - Those servers have configured maintenance windows of 2 hours during each night. I scheduled a deployment of missing patches authorizing restart.
--> when the maintenance window will be reached:
    - will the server first be restarted to clean the pending reboot ?
    - will the the server be patched / restarted several times as required to fully meet the updates to be deployed.
    Another scenario on workstation side:
    - can I enforce deployment of updates at a given time, do not automatically restart the workstation during patch deployment, but after deployment schedule a mandatory restart with a countdown if there is a pending reboot... From end-user perspective, it
would have the following behavior. For instance:
    - patches are automatically installed on Monday at 10 AM
    - as soon as deployment is done, warning message is displayed to ask users to reboot
    - then user has up to 48h to restart his computer by himself. If he does not do it, it will be automatically done after countdown expires.
--> Can such a scenario be managed by SCCM 2012 ?
    Regards.

    Hi,
I have a related question about deploying Microsoft Security Updates to workstations via SCCM 2012.  Is there a way to deploy the MS updates to workstations and only suppress reboots for machines with users logged on or locked?  There seems to
be only 2 different options for reboots, Suppress them all or don't suppress them at all.  We would like SCCM to reboot the machines that are logged off, but suppress the reboot for those that are logged on, while at the same time, provide the user with
a notification that their machine needs to be rebooted (at their convenience).
We've tried applying the Domain GPO "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations" (Enabled) and "Configure Automatic Updates" (Disabled), but the logged on/locked machines still receive the restart countdown with no
    option to postpone or delay.
This is a show stopper for us since we have an environment where we are absolutely not allowed to reboot a logged on machine.
For a little background, we are coming from SMS 2003 and the Distribute Software Updates (ITMU) way of deploying MS Updates, where we could always set the program to run "Only when no user is logged on".
Please tell me there is a way to achieve our desired result.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • SCCM 2012 R2 upgrade & broken reports

After upgrading to R2, everything went off w/o a hitch until we tried to run reports (see below for error)
Weird part is *some* of the admins can run reports just fine (for instance, two separate AD groups that are a part of the Full Administrators within SCCM, one can run, while the others cannot).  We can also do this solution: http://www.netdavidic.com/2013/11/how-to-fix-sccm-2012-r2-reporting.html .
While this works, it is not a viable solution moving forward.
Our setup is pretty simple; single site server w/ all services, 2-3 DP's etc.  Server 2012, SQL 2012 SP1.  We upgraded from SCCM 2012 SP1.

    Update:
TL;DR If you're running SQL services under a different context other than Local Service, you'll have problems.
The ultimate solution was this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/77bad9b6-de0e-42d3-ae9f-e7c9d26b4330/reporting-error-after-upgrading-to-sccm-2012-r2?forum=configmanagergeneral
However, I'll provide a bit more detail in case anyone else runs into this.
In our environment, we run all SQL services as a separate account, say domain\CMSQLSERVICE account (so if you looked at the services, you'd see SQL Server, SQL Server Agent & SQL Server Reporting Services all running as CMSQLSERVICE).  We also run
reporting as another account, say domain\CMSQLREPORTING account (SCCM console, Admin, Site Config, Servers & Sites, Reporting services point).  Placing CMSQLREPORTING account into the Windows Authorization Access Group did not resolve the issue as
I had thought.  We then placed CMSQLSERVICE account in there & everything worked as intended.
You'll be able to easily see the errors by looking on the reporting point / server with the SQL database for C:\Users\ACCOUNTRUNNINGSQLSERVICE\AppData\Local\Temp .
It took procmon to lead me to that location for the ultimate solution.

  • Send SCCM 2012 client or re-send client to individual computer

We have a tech tools web portal and I need to add an item so techs can send the SCCM 2012 client to a machine. This will be used if they have to reinstall the client for some reason.
I had planned to use PowerShell and created the script only to find out that it requires too great a permissions role to connect to the SCCM drive so the cmdlets can be used.
I then thought I could just create a .CCR for a computer. But, the format for SCCM 2007 does not work for SCCM 2012.
Reasons we are approaching this in this manner are:
    1) We want to install using the CURRENT client files. And, we don't want to copy those off to some other location and need to remember to update them when we update SCCM 2012.
    2) We want the retry capability that comes with using .CCRs.
    3) We want the "smartness" of the client install we have found. We have a distributed operation and doing the client install by an SCCM admin from the PowerShell script or via the right-click in the console allows SCCM to find the closest DP and
use client install files from a local source when available.
    4) We have a LOT of desktop techs that we do not want having access to the SCCM console. There is just too high a learning curve. We want a simple tool.
One other thing to mention ... we cannot use the Generate CCR tool because we are not turning on client push (lots of valid reasons for this and some the SCCM admins don't think are valid, but the decision has been made for us :) )
Anyone have thoughts on how to have a simple tool to send the client install via script or .CCR?
    Thanks in advance!

You can't turn client push off -- you can turn *auto*-client push off though. The Generate CCR tool does not depend upon *auto*-client push though so there's no reason you can't use it.
Here's a blog post on the changes in the CCR process:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/neilp/archive/2012/07/03/client-push-installation-changes-in-configuration-manager-2012-and-how-to-take-advantage-of-these-for-troubleshooting-purposes.aspx
