How to upgrade 10.6.8 server to 10.8.2 server

I have been scouring the internet looking for "Best Pratices" for upgrading my mini server from 10.6.8 to 10.8.2 to no avail. I'm hoping for a small amount of hand holding, a little reassurance.
I have a 2.53 GHz Mini Server, with the 500 GB drives raided to mirror.
I am running a very simple set up where we are really only using AFP/DNS/Open Directory/SMB, Basically a means of managing authentication to our files.
I would like to upgrade the system to 10.8.2 to gain the versioning support in ML.
Can anyone help me avoid obvious mistakes/pitfalls. My current plan:
1. Validate my backups
2. Download 10.8 via the app store
3. Install it.
4. Move on....
Do I have to reinstall server.app?
Will the upgrade dump all of my settings etc.?
Will I have to re-setup the server?
Thanks for your help.

Here's what we did in a recent upgrade from server 10.6.8 to 10.8 on our Xserves:
Imaged the existing servers, just in case
Backed up all services, archived Open Directory, exported all users & groups
Downloaded & installed 10.8 (it sounds like you have one server, but if you have any replicas, do this on the master first)
Downloaded & installed server.app
Installed all updates
All services appeared to be running with all previous settings intact, but...
We ran into a pretty serious problem with file sharing -- With any luck, you won't need this info, but my notes are below just in case. Hope this is helpful info.
Open directory Master -- All services seem OK.
Open directory Replica:
SMB shares wouldn't mount on either Macs or PCs (authentication errors)
AFP shares initially seemed OK, but we quickly discovered that the service was limited to 10 connections. Users beyond 10 who tried to connect would get an error that the server had reached its max number of connections.
What we tried that didn't work:
Rebooting the server (multiple times) both with the service turned on and off, disabling SMB sharing on all shares and then reenabling it, modifying the maxConnections key in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist -- it was set to 10, we reset it to 1000 and restarted. This *might* have worked for AFP, but SMB still wasn't working, and we should have had unlimited connections.
Called AppleCare -- the rep advised us to force the server to re-set up the services. To do that...
- Open Server.app, turn off all running services, and quit Server.app.
- Throw Server.app in the trash. Do not empty trash. You'll see a message that Server.app has been moved, or something to that effect.
- Move Server.app back to /Applications
- Open Server.app and it should walk you through the setup as though it was a new server.
- Restart necessary services
This seemed to fix the problem. The AFP plist was completely overwritten -- the new version was binary. All AFP users are now able to connect, and SMB shares are working as well.

how to upgrade windows small business server 2011 essentials to windows small business server 2011 standard(OEM system Builder Pack)?

    Hi,
Based on my experience, there is no upgrade path for OEM licensing. In addition, only SBS 2008 Standard can upgrade to SBS 2011 Standard, and there is no path to so
that from SBS 2011 Essentials. I am sorry to say that you may need a migration instead of an upgrade.

  • How to upgrade the Admin Server to WLS 9.2.3 while Managed on 9.2.2

    HI,
I have a WLS 9.2.2 domain with Admin and 2 Managed instances clustered. Admin and Managed Servers are on different machines.
I want to upgrade only the Admin Server to WLS 9.2 MP3 while all my Managed Servers are in WLS 9.2 MP2.
Can any one provide me the detailed steps on how to upgrade only the Admin server to WLS 9.2 MP3?
And I read in the Weblogic documentation that this supported. But could not find any detailed steps on how to upgrade only the Admin server to the Major version.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
    1. "And I read in the Weblogic documentation that this supported". Can you please provide the link or documenation that exactly says that this is Supported ???
    2. As far as I know, one of the basic requirements for Weblogic Cluster with managed servers across different remote machines is, all the machines, Admin and Managed Servers machines should have Exact Same Version (including Service Pack) of WLS deployed. Right now I do not have this link on top of my head. But this is the only Supported and one basic requirement for Weblogic Cluster.
Since WLS uses all Shared Modules and each Shared module do have like Implementation and Specification Version. If you upgrade admin server domain, most probably config.xml file will be upgraded with all modules version as 10.0.2.3 (something like that). This means when you restart Managed Servers, they will get a new copy of config.xml file from admin server machine. So now on Managed Servers all these modules (10.0.2.3 etc) should exist on their local machines. This is just my thought.

    北京老马

    Hi Martin
    Find the below information.
    Upgrade Sequence for each Role:
    ==========================
You should upgrade your Exchange 2013 server roles in the following order:
    Client Access
    Mailbox
    Edge
    For DAG members
Upgrade only passive servers in the first phase.
Before you apply the service pack to a DAG member, move all active mailbox database copies off the server to be upgraded and configure the server to be blocked from activation.
Place server in DAG maintenance mode before applying the service pack to any DAG member,
Stop any scheduled tasks or other processes running on the DAG member or within that DAG that could adversely affect the DAG member being upgraded or the upgrade process
    Good Luck !!

  • How can I upgrade from os X server 10.6.8 to the 10.8 server

I want to upgrade to the current version of x server from 10.6.8.
The available pathways to get there do not seem to exist.
    How does one accomplish this?
    Thanks...

For the upgrade approach, first determine if your current (presumably Xserve?) server supports OS X 10.8 (client), then (if so) purchase OS X 10.8 (client), then purchase and install Server.app.  The OS X client upgrade will leave the server bits alone, and the Server.app server installation should detect the server bits and upgrade them.
One or more backups are strongly recommended.
The other approach is a new server, and migrating individual service settings and data manually.  This is far more work.

    Dear Doron
Solution Manager system will never physically participate in the upgrade of a Netweaver Server. It will only help you to find the right files via the maintenance optimizer. Also if you want to develop / use a Project for your upgrade you could use the upgrade roadmap and then use Solution Manager as a Project Management tool for the upgrade.
Besides this there will be no guide available for "upgrading" a system, since the upgrade roadmap is generic and the maintenance optimizer feature is isolated from the roadmap. You will have to follow the upgrade guides available on
    http://service.sap.com/instguides.
Hope that this answers your query.

  • How to install yosemite on lion server without server application

I have osx 10.7.5  (that's all it says when I click about this app, but I know the computer was installed with lion with server app originally).  I don't need nor want the server app, and am happy to remove it one way or another.  Server is currently disabled.  I want to know how to upgrade to mavericks or yosemite without any server aspect at all.  Can it be done?  I have googled until my head has exploded and am none the wiser.  Most people seem to be unsuccessful.  I did previously try to install mavericks when it came out but it came up with some random scary message and I cancelled it.
Both my mac mini 2011 disks are in use  for different reasons - one tends to be more operational such as the operating system and apps, the other to save all my photos, videos and files mainly.   I have a separate ext hard drive for time machine back ups.
I have no tech skills whatsoever, so baby language please.  Be specific.  Outline EVERY step in simple language.  Or I will cry!
    Thanks!
    Jodi

There's nothing special you have to do. Just upgrade. The Server app won't come back.

  • How do I reinstall Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini Server 2010?

How do I reinstall Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini Server 2010? I have already attached a Mac Superdrive and tried to download, but the buttons at the bottom of the dialog screen are greyed out.

Not sure where you're getting tangled here or how much you know about OS X Server 10.6, so...
AFAIK, Snow Leopard Server wasm't available as a download, it was a separate DVD distribution.
Unlike more recent versions of OS X Server, the 10.6 server distributions were usually standalone DVD disks, as well.
(There is a slight wrinkle if your Mac needs a newer version of 10.6 than your server distribution; there was a different streaming upgrade process for that.  IIRC, the appropriate OS X client version was installed first, then you booted that client version and loaded the DVD and installed OS X Server.)
But if you have a Snow Leopard Server distribution that supports your particular Mac Mini model, then boot the DVD, use Disk Utility from the Utilities menu in the bootable DVD environment, wipe the disk, and then install OS X Server.
You'll need a 10.6 license key, if you don't already have that.
FWIW, here are the available manuals.

FYI: NetWeaver 2004 is run in my server.

    hi Guixin,
During Netweaver 2004s upgrade, the upgrade program detects what software is installed on the source release system and maps it to the SAP NetWeaver 2004s usage types. SAPJup then upgrades your system to a
system with the determined usage types.
Please refer to the section '1.2.5.3 Upgrade Paths: Overview' of the Upgrade Master Guide : SAP NetWeaver 2004s to have details about the target release of the usage types which will be mapped to the components installed on the source system.
Netweaver 2004s Upgrade guides are available on SAP Service Marketplace http://service.sap.com/instguidesnw2004s
Hope this information help you in your upgrade tasks

    Hi,
Currently our server is installed with OS 8. I want to upgrade it to OS 10 as some application software is no more support OS 8. Can you advise on how to upgrade to OS 10 without affecting current server settings and configrations.
    Thanks
    vlsi

    >
upgrade to OS 10 without affecting current server
settings and configrations.Generally speaking, Solaris installs will offer you the opportunity to do an "upgrade" install that will preserve your existing config.
Practically speaking, however, you need to have enough disk space to do the upgrade, and Solaris 10's full install is much larger than Solaris 8's.
The install can also offer to do a data backup for you if it finds it has to resize your disk partitions, so you should be prepared with a tape drive (or available extra disk or NFS filesystem) for temporary storage of the backup.
Even with all this, I would still recommend you make a backup of your system before starting.

I have got a solution to upgrade the version of SAPCAR. but i dont know how to do it?
how to upgrade the version OF SAPCAR.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Priya..
You don't need downtime to change permissions...
You can run "/sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saproot.sh" script as ROOT user to set the permissions on Kernel Directory.
    OR
    Do as follow:
    # chown -R irqadm:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe
    # chmod -R 755 irqadm:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe
    # chmod 4755 /sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saposcol
    # chown root:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saposcol
After that don't forget to set the permissions of BRTools (brbackup, brrestore, brarchive, brspace etc.) according to below note.

  • Crystal Reports Server XI upgrade to Crystal Reports Server 2008

I have downloaded the Crystal Reports Server 2008 upgrade from the portal.  Questions:
The "Upgrading Your Crystal Reports Server Delpoyment from XI or XI Relase 2 to Crystal Rpeorts Server 2008" (simple install) documentation mentions that the installer should recognize my installation and prompt to upgrade.  Instead, the first prompt that I get is for a license key.  Is this normal, or should the application be seeing my existing install?
If I do indeed need a 2008 license key, how do I obtain one?  It will not accept may CRXI Server keys, and I cannot see anyplace to download the new keys.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I think you can request for new keys:
    For a new key:
Request key codes for new orders via SAP Marketplace (SMP), will receive a download letter on new purchases providing them with their SMP login credentials. Using these credentials you can login and click in the "Keys & Requests" tab > Request a License key.
If your Key code does not work
