How to upgrade BIOS on Satellite A80?

Hello to all..
Just got this dynabook TX or Satellite A80 and reformatted it to English from Japanese text, my new OS is XP.
How to update the BIOS?
What is the use of updating it?
Do I need to update all of its utilities?
Thanks in advance for your reply...

Hi
First of all you have to check if the Toshiba drivers published on the European drive page support the A80 series which you have.
The drivers on the page are designed for PSA80E series.
If you have changed the OS to English version I need specific XP drivers;
> How to update the BIOS?
You should first check if the BIOS is compatible, then you can perform the BIOS update OS. You have to execute the BIOS file in Windows OS.
> What is the use of updating it?
This Bios Update adds increased functionality to your system.
> Do I need to update all of its utilities?
If you need all, you have to install all.

How to recover bios on satellite A300 laptop?

    > Somebody told me that the bios must have infected and asked me to rewright the bios.
So this someone hasn't got much savvy.
Sorry mate but this issue has nothing to do with BIOS. BIOS is saved on the ROM module the virus cannot affect the ROM module since it needs to be flashed and I dont think that this a case on your notebook.
You just deleted something in registry?? Im afraid this is not enough to get rid of a virus
The best solution is to format the HDD and to reinstall the system once again
Use the recovery disk because the recover would delete all partitions and would reinstall the system, drivers and tools again

    > i re-install windows every few months to keep the laptop fresh and fast
Many people think the same but especially fast has mostly nothing to do with BIOS update. If everything works well why to change anything and risk something.
My notebook is 3 years old and I use it still with original BIOS. No problems at al. Anyway, I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and explain the situation. Be clear and tell them that you are not happy now and you want to have old BIOS version again. They have access to BIS database and can obtain older version for you.

  • Cannot upgrade BIOS on Satellite P30-145

    Hi anyone,
just inherited a P30-145 notebook, cannot upgrade the bios. When I run the file, I get the message" bios upgrade rom wrong size!"and then the installer shuts off. How do I upgrade? I'm doing everything right according to the website.
Just one thing, the original restore disk was not available, so I installed a standard XP and upgraded drivers as necessary from the Toshiba site.

    Hi
Try the BIOS 1.40 from the Toshiba US driver page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=1236378&pf=true
The BIOS is for Satellite P30 PSP30U. It the same series like the European notebook series PSP30E.
Download the exe file and save it on desktop. Then create an folder and unzip the sp35v14.exe file to this new created folder.
Now go to this folder and inside this folder you will find some files.
Read the readme.txt file to get full instruction how to update the BIOS.

  • Upgrading Bios on Satellite A30

Can someone please tell me how to update my bios as apparently Toshiba seem to have it wrong. Om my Satellite A30 using XP Pro I have started to get the blue screen every time I switch on and it tells me that there is something missing or wrong in the Bios and it needs to be upgraded. I downloaded the correct update from Toshiba on my desktop Pc and followed the instructions which are
Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
Insert a formatted 1.44MB diskette in the floppy disk drive.
Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary folder. Follow the instructions on the screen. A BIOS update diskette will be generated.
Ensure the Notebook is connected to the mains.
    Turn the Notebook off.
Place the diskette containing the BIOS upgrade in the floppy disk drive.
Turn the Notebook on with the F12 key.
The BIOS boot menu appears. Select "Removeable Device", "USB Floppy Drive" or the diskette symbol using the arrow keys. Press "Enter".
The Notebook will boot from the BIOS upgrade floppy diskette.
The BIOS update will start automatically.
After a few minutes the Notebook will switch off automatically, remove the diskette and make a restart. If it does not then remove the diskette and turn the system off and back on to restart the Notebook.
I have done the first parts of the above, but when I try and execute the file to make a floppy disk on my desktop, the programe seems to think that I am trying to upgrade the bios on that machine and of course I get an error message and am not able to create a floppy disk. Can someone please help?

    Hi there,
so, this BIOS is a "Windows-update" bios. That means the Bios will be updated in windows and not with a floppy disk. I am not sure why toshiba is giving such instructions, but I believe they didnt updated the instructions since these new bioses.
Which Bios version did you downloaded? It should be the versiion 1.80. In case of this version, just unpack the file to a folder in the zip and execute it. They file with unpack itself to C:\Windows\Temp\Winphlash and start the bios update procedure.
So, please try it again and give me a "overview on your situation" :)

    Option 2: Update with CD-ROM

    Page with update file: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp
Then I decompressed zip,.. and didn't see three directories, which written about in instruction (from above).
Help please, what I must to do. Or how to update my BIOS?
    Thank you!

    Listen Alexey!!
At this time you can find the BIOS 2.20-WIN for Satellite L40 on the Toshiba European driver page.
This is a *windows-based* version of the BIOS. Its *NOT* traditional BIOS version.
In such case you cannot update the BIOS using a diskette or CD. The BIOS update must be performed while the OS is running!!
However, the BIOS update is tricky and always RISKY!!! If you have no problems with your notebook, dont update anything!!!
The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the board!!!!

I have an Hp Pavilion a1620n with an ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard using Phoenix Technologies Bios VER.3.16 and running Windows 7. I want to upgrade the processor and have been told that I must upgrade the Bios prior to upgrading the processor. AZ_scuba_dude, welcome to the forum.
There are no software/BIOS updates for Win7 for the computer.  It is unlikely that there will be one developed.  However, there is a BIOS update for XP.  You will have to do a System Restore back to the original configuration which includes XP.  Once this is complete, you can update the BIOS to version: 3.19.  You can do the update using the executable file (sp35100.exe). Although, it doesn't mention anything about allowing for upgrading the CPU.  Here are the Motherboard Specifications for the computer.  In the section titled Processor upgrade information, it lists the CPU upgrades that HP supports.

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro NB10-A-100 laptop and I want to enter to BIOS configuration and I can't.
What is the button combination to get in?
    Thanks in advance.

    Perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8 - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
Restart your machine and try to use F2 or F12. If you use F12 there should be option to enter notebook setup settings.
Please test it and send some feedback.

  • How to access BIOS on Satellite L670-134

    Hi there,
i need to access the BIOS but i dont know the key combination.
Tried F1 F2 DEL Backspace etc none worked.
I think i turned an option like fast boot on once before... when i turn on the laptop i cant see any postscreen, the screen stays black after turning the laptop on and then the windows logo appears.
So how do i access the BIOS!?

    Hi buddy,
If you enable this fast boot option you must be very quick to enter the BIOS so press F2 key immediately after you turned on your notebook.
Alternative you can access the BIOS using preinstalled Toshiba HWsetup. The fast boot option you can also disable/enable with this tool as far as I know.

  • How to reset BIOS on Satellite A110?

    Hi there,
I need a little help, somehow my notebook came up with the idea of putting a bios password in by himself. So I have no idea what it is.
I would really like to logging at my notebook again so has anyone an good idea?
I googled on the internet and I already tried:
    - Playing with the boot button to try and by-pass the biospass
    - Holding the left Shift button to try and by-pass the biospass
    - Trying the password Toshiba / toshiba
So the warranty is already elapsed so I opened the Notebook and disamblled it. It ain't possible to get the Bios battery out of his place without killing it, and I can't find any jumper or bios chip.
So has anyone please an idea how to fix this problem?
my laptop also has no floppy drive.
thanks for reading and I hope you can help me solving this problem.
    Grtz,
    Koen Loep

    Hello Koen
It is really stupid situation. Problem is that BIOS deleting procedure is not the same for all notebook models. All you tried is a kind of "standard procedure" but as you can see, it will not help you at all.
I am afraid you have just one solution: contact nearest authorized service provider and explain the situation. They can help you and remove the BIOS password. Try to convince service people to believe you that it is not your fault.
I wish you good luck and hope service guys will help you.

  • How to recover BIOS on Satellite A500-18Q?

    Hi!
I tried updating the BIOS to improve performance of the laptop but the update was corrupt and now the laptop will not boot.
Can you help me to recover the bios?
Thank you very much in advance.

    >I tried updating the BIOS to improve performance of the laptop but the update was corrupt and now the laptop will not boot.
In such case you have to get in contact with an local ASP.
The ASP technician would be able refresh the BIOS using crisis BIOS disk.
You cannot do this because such disks and trad-BIOS update is available just for ASP technicians only :(
