How to valuate efficiency of aggregates (in time of query run)
Hi, all!
Is there simple way to learn query execution time? I'd like to use it for valuating aggregates efficiency.
I know that it can be done by looking at BW Stat tables, but it is not comfortable. Maybe there is an option in rsrt to show total run time, without using cache?
You can use RSRT to compare query results with and without the aggregate. Use the Execute & Debug option when you go to run your query. Then near the of the Debug options under Others, is an option to Display BW Statistics. Tihs option will display the components of the run time time and how many rows were read and how many were transferred to the OLAP processor.
Near the top of the the Debug options is the option Do Not Use Aggregates, so you can run the same query using the aggregates and then again without the aggregates and compare the results.
Couple of important items -
This is only testing one particular execution with the inputs you provide. If the query you are testing has many input prompts and many free characteristics, your users could be running the query in very different ways than your test.
Your primary interest in this test is the DB time which should pretty strongly correlate with the number of rows selected (read). The total RSRT time shouldn't be worried about for evaluating impact of an aggregate because the front end time should generally be the same regardless of use of the aggregate, since it is a function of the time it takes to get the data to the client and formatted, which should be the same since you are moving the same data to the client with the aggregate and without the aggregate.
RSRT also has the Debug option Display Run Schedule, which will providew the database optimziers Explain (Execution) Plan which you could also use to evalue the query's performance with and without the aggregate.
Before starting, you should make sure the DB statistics for the base cube and the aggregate are current in order to provide a valid comparison.
Also, when using RSRT, keep in mind, that if the query is against an Infocube that has data in both the E and F fact tables, two SQL queries really run, and RSRT will show two Explain plans if you have the Disaply Run Schedule option checked. If the query is against the multiprovider, you will have SQL queries against each underlying Infoprovider and Explain Plans for each.

Thank you !If you have more than 100,000 messages in the queue, then look at the MAX_MESSAGES parameter in [the job_controller.cnf file|http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Job+Controller+Configuration+File]. If the parameter is not specified, it defaults to 100000. If you have more than that number of messages in the channel queues, it will take a long time for new/legitimate messages to be sent because job_controller is only considering the first 100,000 messages in the queue.
If you get into the "imsimta qm" command do do "sum -database", it will show a summary of what job_controller has in its internal cache and therefore what job_controller is working on. If you compare that to "sum -directory" you will probably see a difference.
If these are all legitimate messages, you need to increase MAX_MESSAGES, cnbuild, and restart job_controller.
If they are not, then preventing this in the future will require determining how they got into your queue and correcting that.
As for removing them, the "imsimta qm" commands allow you to select messages by various criteria and then you can "return" or "delete" them. But yes, that will take a long time if there are many messages because it is a single threaded process and it needs to open and examine each message. You may be able to accomplish the task more quickly with a shell script that works on individual channel queue subdirectories and then run multiple copies of that script in parallel. After you have cleaned out the queue, restart job_controller.
Also, you might want to consider [the subdirs channel keyword|http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Subdirs_and_nosubdirs_Channel_Options]. -

How to import email in Mail from Time Machine to Lion
My laptop, which had Leopard OS, was stolen. Fortunately, I have a Time Machine backup. I used that to install on my new laptop which has Lion (10.7.4). In Mail, my folders show up, but not the email in them. How do I get the email from Time Machine? (Current email is working. That is, email since I got the new laptop.)
Don't try to restore the file; restore the Note. Go in Mail to the mailbox where the note belongs. Enter Time Machine from there and step back until you find the Note.

HELP!! My voicemail cuts in after just 15 seconds of ringing, which is rarely long enough for me to answer it. How do I increase the length of time it rings? Can I choose not to have voicemail at all, so my phone can just continue ringing until I answer?

How to enter a new Date and Time each day in a Numbers Spreadsheet...
Hi... I have finally decided to move away from Excel and really give Numbers a shot... I have an application where each day I first enter the current date and time into a particular cell of a new row and then I enter some data in cells adjacent (in the same row) as that entered date-time. Then the next day I want to again enter the (new) current date and time and add more data next to that new date-time and so forth day after day... You can't use something as simple as =NOW() because then everyday, ALL of the date-times would change to the current time... Nope, now what I want... I just want to be able to EASILY and QUICKLY enter the current date-time value in one call and then have that specific value stay there forever... In Excel, this is accomplished with the keyboard shortcuts of
<cntl> followed by a semicolon (;) for the date
then enter a single space (for separation of date versus time) followed last by
<command> followed again by a semicolon...
So all together that is,
<cntl><;><sp><command><;>
and that puts something like
4/10/2010 9:49:00 AM
in a single cell...
That's what I now want to be able to do in Numbers...
How do I do that??? Do I use the menubar item "Insert Date and Time" and if so, how exactly do I get the current time to show up in the chosen cell??? With formatting??? Is there a keyboard shortcut method like the one I mentioned that works for Excel?? I've perused the manual and though I found lots on date-time, I didn't see how to do specifically what I want to do... I likely just missed it as surely it must be easy to do...

The script is an old one which deciphered only the letter+digit cell references.

How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and MacBookPro
It is generally better to leave the old backups and start again.. unless there is something you particularly need.
But if you desperately want all the old backups you have to copy the sparse bundles.. this will take very long time as it must copy via the computer..

I'm getting VSS error in my eventlog -> application. I was getting 8213 and followed http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734219(v=ws.10).aspx and
now I'm gettting 8230.
Meanwhile my backups not are running. I remember running PSConfig command when I first installed windows and sharepoint 2010 on this box for system backup to work correctly.
Now I run WMIC QFE LIST FULL /Format:HTable > C:\Temp\HotfixList.html to retrieve all the installed update to check if KBs
2460045 or 2687453 are installed unnoticed but I don't have any history of installed updates suprising eh!
Now I want to run
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent
-install -cmd installfeatures
just incase one of them have been installed unnotice.
How many times can I run this PSConfig command? How dangerous is this decision?You can run it as many times as you want, but it will take SharePoint down on that particular server (resets IIS, for example), while it executes.

How can I delete duplicates automatically?
I find that I have inadvertently duplicated numerous photos in iPhoto. I could try to delete them one by one but that is tedious. Is there a simple work around? I have an IMac with OSX Version 10.9.4 and iphoto version 9.5.1. Thank you.
