How to write functional requirements

Hello,
I need your help in this matter.
There is SAP PM/CS analyst opening in our company. I've been offered that position but I don't how to write the functional requirements for the developers in case we want to make some customization in the system.
Could anyone provide me with a template, a procedure or a list of information that I should provide? How am I going to use the tables and user exit in to write the new requirements?

As you have offered a new role of SAP PM/CS the customizing configuration related to your module ,you will have to do in that developers are concerned .
List of information you should provide to developers .
1 .What's the Requirement you should want or client wants
2 .Explain the Document Flow and tell them few specific tables and in case document flow related issues tell them to find thorugh SAP available transactions like SARA .
3 .In case of userexits explain them what is the requirement and ask them about their approach .
4 .Test Data ,testing and flow testing will varried by you and customize related issues link to your module you will take care .rest all customize the developers have to take care .
5 .Guide them on the Formatting stuff what does client wants.
Please reward if useful.

I would say that there are many ways to write a FS. Maybe every big company has its own template. As it is the functional spec and not the technical one, I would say that you only need to describe what you want to see on the screen (like with mock-screenshots) or which functionality you want to have from a super-user''s point of view. All the technical details like which database table or function modules need to be investigated by the developer or technical consultant. I am currently in a SAP CRM Service in the technical role and that is the way we work here and I am fine with that. Unfortunately I am not allowed to send you an example.

Try this, it uses a pipelined function to return data as a table (can also be rewritten to output rows with multiple values if needed)...

SQL>There are various methods for splitting strings into rows including just SQL versions, but the above gives you an idea how you can turn a function into a table. It can be adapted to return a structured data type so that you get multiple values coming out per row as well.

I have rolled out BW SEM-BPS Planning Layout's for the Annual Budget in my organistaion.
There are two levels of layout given for the each sales person.
1) Sales quantity to be entered Material and country wise for all 12 months ( April 2009 to March 2010)
2) Rate per unit and to entered in second sheet, Material and country wise for the total qty entered in the first layout.
Now i need to calculate the sales vlaue for each period and for the each material.
Which planning function i have to use and how to write this planning fucntion.

Hi,
Raising Exceptions
There are two ABAP statements for raising exceptions. They can only be used in function modules:
RAISE except.
und
MESSAGE.....RAISING except.
The effect of these statements depends on whether the calling program handles the exception or not. The calling program handles an exception If the name of the except exception or OTHERS is specified after the EXCEPTION option of the CALL FUNCTION statement.
If the calling program does not handle the exception
· The RAISEstatement terminates the program and switches to debugging mode.
· The MESSAGE..... RAISING statement displays the specified message. Processing is continued in relation to the message type.
If the calling program handles the exception, both statements return control to the program. No values are transferred. The MESSAGE..... RAISING statement does not display a message. Instead, it fills the system fields sy-msgid, sy-msgty, sy-msgno , and SY-MSGV1 to SY-MSGV4.

just have to decide what exceptions u want and under what conditions.
then declarethese exeptions under the exceptions tab.
in the source code of ur function module.

now when u call the function module in tme mainprogram.
if some error occurs and u have declared a exception for this then it will set sy-subrc = value u give inthe call of this fm.
in the fm u can program these sy-subrc values and trigger the code for ur exception.
