HP 5000 Printer & Vista (*!@&$%)!!)

Has anybody has any luck running ID at all on Vista? And by chance anybody running an HP 5000 Laserjet printer w/Vista & ID... Thanks Lamar

I regularly print proofs for scholarly material (mostly text, not much art, CJK characters, custom OT fonts for unusual diacritics) via an HP 5000. I mostly print PDFs as that's the final form I submit to the publisher or book printer. I use HP's clone Postscript driver, which is faster than PCL and prints Chinese and small type better. Maxing out the 5000's RAM (the PostScript card occupies one of 2 slots) cured some early problems when Chinese seemed to be overloading things, though that might have been when I still favored PCL. The print quality via Postscript is also better than I get through the genuine Adobe Postscript driver for my Xerox 6180 (which is limited to 600 dpi).
Edit: I forgot to mention that I mostly use Vista and IDCS3.

Hp laserwriter 5000 printer moved to new ethernet o

i have an hp laserwriter 5000 printer connected to a network of 6 old macs OS 10.6. and it prints perfectly from all 6. But when I moved it to another ethernet wall outlet, now none of them can print to it. Moved to a third ethernet outlet and still none can print to it. The ethernet outlets work fine on all the other printers and they work fine on this printer as long as I connect it back to the original ethernet outlet.
how can I fix this? the printer has its same IP address, nothing changed. appletalk is on.
I open the print menu, select the printer and click print
then I get this message:
Starting job
then about 5 sec later, this,
attempting to connect to host 10.0.1.194 on port 9100
and then after about 60 seconds, I get this message:
unable to connect to printer (retrying in 30 seconds) Operation timed out.
delete the job, reboot computer, open simple text file to print and go back to the print menu and try again
this time get this message:
Network host 10.0.1.194 is busy; will retry in 15 seconds
when I go into the print & fax preferences window I see the printers listed , boxes check, in the menu.
The config page of the printer at the original ethernet connection prints a BOOTP/DHCP SERVER number but when I connect it to another ethernet wall outlet it omits that line on the config page. Do I need to set that address? How? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP.

HP Laserjet 1018 does not print (Vista)

Hi,
I've had the HP Laserjet 1018 for about 2 years and have been a very happy customer. Recently I upgraded to Windows 7 and have been using it without trouble for a few months. Just a few days ago I started having some spooler problems on Windows 7. Eventually the printer would not respond. I also have a laptop running Vista so decided to just use print using Vista instead.
The problem I'm having on Vista now is that when I send a print command, the printer does go into a warm-up state for about two to three seconds. I can hear moving parts inside and at the same time the 2 lights blink alternatively. But after this warm-up state the printer would just stop. At this pint the print queue on windows would be empty again, as if the print job has been complete.
I've used this printer with my Vista laptop for a long time without any problem. I hope this is a common problem and can be easily resolved. Thanks in advance for helping me out.

I have a similar problem. Dell XPS 64 bit desk top using Laserjet 1018 with Vista. Upgrade to Win 7 four months ago without a problem. Six days ago the print spooler stopped and stops immediately every time I start it. Pages of error reports in event log, but can't find one with a cause (that I can understand anyway). Cannot print. Can't uninstall HP drivers to install any new drivers because the spooler is stopped. Ran Windows system file checker without a problem documented. Windows says the printer is working and trouble shooter did not help. Printers display on control panel with limited function upon right click. Can't choose print directly to printer. A number of similar posts on Microsoft site without viable solution.

Is there any driver for an HP Laserjet 5000 printer that will work with OS 10.10.2?

I have an older laserjet printer and since updating to OS 10.10.2 I cannot print. I have been on with HP, and they no longer support this printer, and the latest driver is compatible with OS 10.6. Does anyone know a way to get around this? I really cannot go out and buy another printer, this one is great.

Mention you're using a Mac and HP will give up pretty easily. It doesn't matter whether the printer is new or old.
Since the driver you have been using no longer works, did you try OS X's generic PostScript printer driver?
I agree old HP printers are built well and last forever, and no one likes keeping perfectly good printers in service more than I do, but are you absolutely certain a new printer is out of the question? Faster and much more capable laser printers than the LaserJet 5000 are readily available today for less than $100. HP doesn't make them.
Even finding a replacement your toner cartridge for yours must be getting difficult. The street price for that toner cartridge is about $150. HP's list price is well over $200.

C5140 All-In-One - page in queue won't print (Vista)

After hard drive crashed in July, got new hard drive (OS Vista still). Installed printer - fine . Used recently, wouldn't print - the page would get held up in the queue. Reinstalled printer disk, message said I needed new driver, installed one 11/15, everything worked fine. Today, 11/16, went to print from MS Word, page stuck in queue again.

It sounds like an issue with the print spooler in the services. I would suggest running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. The HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR) was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
Please let me know the outcome of the PSDR. I will respond back with the specific troubleshooting steps depending on what the PSDR says. With any luck the PSDR will resolve the issue and you'll be printing in no time.

Quicken printing, Vista 64-bit & Adobe Reader 8

Intuit reports that there is a conflict between Quicken and Adobe Reader version 8. Their solution is to degrade to version 6. However, version 6 will not run on Vista 64. I am unable to print anything from Quicken while my printer works fine in every other case.

I found that Firefox/XPS had deleted all printer driver setups except for the XPS connection. I had to reinstall my printer connection in order to have that selection present in the printer dialogue box.

Mac mini can't find laserjet 5000 printer

My Mac Mini is linked to my printer via ethernet through a router. The computer doesn't "see" the printer. I've gone through print utility in system preferences and the only printer it shows in Adobe pdf. I've tried resetting and still the printer doesn't appear. I've tried turning the printer on and off and running the ethernet directly to the printer, bypassing the router. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't Print to Windows ME shared Epson CX 5000 printer

When I try Windows printing I get "Workgroup" or "Network Neighborhood," neither of which find my MSHOME network or my printer. If I use IP printing and I get "connecting," but then get "busy" returned to me.

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850. This did not fix my problem.

evaluation was informed that nothing was wrong with the printer and needed to consult a certified
Microsoft Consultant. After 4 days of off and on telephone conversations suggested to TRASH the printer
and get a new one-for what I paid I could may have bought 2!

Is Lion compatible with HP Laserjet 5000 printer

Before I upgrade to Lion, does anyone know if its compatible with a HP Laserjet 5000 n? I went into HP's support and there are no drivers
available that support Lion.

LaserJet 5000 series drivers are included with OS X 10.7, according to this list:

Can't print to a HP LaserJet 5000 we've used for years

We're a design studio with 4 Mac's and have had this HP LaserJet 5000 printer for a longtime and love it. A real work horse and low maintenance. Two of our cpu's are running Mavericks, 2 are running 10.7.5 and the older one is still running 10.5.8. This older 10.5.8 cpu has always worked flawlessly with this printer. IT'S ALWAYS CONNECTED to the printer. But after recent OSX upgrades my 10.7.5. CPU, my Mavericks iMac and recently purchased Mavericks MacPro cannot print to this printer UNLESS I have the older 10.5.8 cpu awake and running. If I shut this older cpu down or put it to sleep, all the other computers can't print to this printer. This older mac is going to be retired soon so I have to find a way that the remaining 4 CPU''s can connect to the Airport Extreme (which they do now) but can also see the printer and I can actually print from it. I've downloaded the latest HP driver software here at apple that was suppose to fix this but nothing. It seems like this older CPU is acting like a server and all requests have to go through it. How I stop this so that each independent CPU can print through the wireless Air Port Extreme.
As a test, I even took a 10' Cat 5 Ethernet cable and plugged it into one of CPU ports and then directly into the back of Printer, bypassing the whole wireless approach, went to Pref's and activated Ethernet 2. CPU still can't print to it. This printer on has Ethernet. Over the years we just set up our AirPort Extreme, plug a cat 5 cable from there to a 5 way ethernet splitter and from there 1 cat 5 goes to the printer. So as I have said everything works great IF I have the older CPU up and running but what I'm I going to do with I retire that unit.
Need some help here please. I been working with Mac's since 1988 and consider myself a power user but this one has really got me.
Suggestions…?
