HP Officejet 7310 no longer in my Printer setup

I recently installed a new printer in another location - HP Photosmart 7520.  On returning to my home location, my HP Officejet 7310 is no longer a choice for my printer output.  I have tried to reinstall the 7310 and I keep getting an error message that it is incompatible with my system (but nothing has changed since I last used it, other than the addition of the 7520.

Hey @Wunitacharles!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I should be able to provide some suggestions regarding the computer not locating the Officejet 7310.  How do you have the printer connected to the computer?  Is it plugged into the computer with a USB cable or is it networked using an ethernet cable to the router?
If you are getting an error saying the printer is not compatable I recommend uninstalling the HP software. I understand you have tried this already  but after the uninstall is complete it would be a good idea to perform a disk cleanup in the computer. A disk cleanup will improve computer performance and clear temporary files that may cause issues during the install of software. Once the disk cleanup is complete you should restart the computer and re-install the HP software.
To uninstall HP software click here:Uninstalling HP Software
To perform a disk cleanup click here: Performing a Disk Cleanup
To download the HP software click here: HP Software and Driver
Please post back with the information on how the printer is connected and I should be able to provide some more help!

I have uninstalled the printer from my PC, restarted the machine, went through the add new printer device wizard and still no network printing capability.
I currently use the workaround of the USB connection for printing from one PC.

Have you tried running the Network Diagnostics tool to see if your printer is on the network.

  • Printing with HP Officejet 7310 Automatic two sided and 2 pages on one sheet

I am trying to print from power point slides with my HP Officejet 7310 with Automatic two sided printing capabilities and I would like to print 2 slides on each page.  Can this be acomplished and is so how?  Thanks

Not necessarily the cleanest, but you can print to a new PDF file. In the printer properties, select the page size, and multi-up option. You might also find that on the pdf printer menu (at least I have that on my AA8.1.2). You may still have to select the paper size, since it is different from the original.

  • Device Manager reported driver missing for Officejet 7310 printer

I used the full-feature install software downloaded from HP site to setup an Officejet 7310 printer on a Lenovo T540p laptop with Windows 8.1 64-bit OS.  The install and the printer appear to work correctly as I can print and I can also scan from the HP Solution Center utility.  However, the Device Manager reports two errors/anomolies as follows.
Under the "Multifunction adapters" entry the Officejet 7300 series Properties shows the Device Status as:
This device is disabled. (Code 22)
Click Enable Device to enable this device.
Under the "Other devices" entry theOfficejet 7300 series Properties shows the Device Status as:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There are no compatible drivers for this device.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
I find this a bit baffling as I believe the install software is supposed to include the driver(s), plus the printer seems to function (which could be due to default Microsoft drivers).
Any thoughts on how things got in this state and how to recover would be deeply appreciated as I prefer to not "ignore" the error messages.
    Thanks,

Yes I was able to remove the USB instance and rename the network-connected printer instance as the sole printer.  I thought that should work, but I was a bit paranoid given the other weird things that happened with the package install.
I'm good to go; thanks again.

  • My HP officejet 6210 no longer prints documents from my Mac ibook G4 running 10.4.11; starts to process the document, but then stops the print,if I restart print same thing happens

My ibookG4, running 10.4.11 suddenly decided it no longer wants to print documents thru my HP officejet 6210 all-in-one printer.  So far I've tried emails, excel and word all with the same result.  The computer will start to process the print request (processing seems to take longer than previously) and then suddenly the processing stops and a red exclamation mark appears next to the printer image at the bottom of screen.  When I pull up the printer utility it tells me the printer is "stopped".  If I restart it, the process begins all over again until once again it stops.  I have already deleted the printer completely from my computer and reinstalled the software fom the HP site.  For some reason had a really tough time finding the correct print drivers on the HP site, but did finally locate them.  I have not even attempted scanning during this (I see lots of people reported issues with that for the 6210), I would be happy if I could at least print again.  I am connecting via USB.  Is there some way to fix this?

  • Officejet 7310 duplex printing

My printer has suddenly stopped printing duplex. It copies a document double sided ok, but won't print a document. I'm using Microsoft Word with Windows XP.
It prints page 1 starting at the top of the page and print the text to the bottom of the page and then throws out the sheet. It then prints page 2 on another sheet starting with the text at the bottom of the page and prints the text to top!!! This means I have to turn round every second sheet to get the document in order.
The pages that I'm printing are quite full of text and include the page number and a one line footer.

    Hello geoff34falmouth,
First of all make sure that the duplexer is "activated" in the driver of the printer. Go to Printers&Faxes and right click the Officejet 7310 driver (should be called something like HP Officejet 7300 series) and click on Properties. Go to the tab called Device Settings and make sure that the duplexer is set to Installed.
Second make sure that you have the correct settings in the driver when printing, so in MS Word click File - Print, make sure that the Officejet 7310 is selected and then click Properties. Make sure that duplexing or two-sided printing is selected.
Third thing you might want to check is the margins of the document that you're printing as the top/bottom margin needs to be a bit larger when using the duplexer compared to when just printing a single-sided job. Top/bottom margins should be at least 12 mm (this is due to the paper handling of the duplexer).

  • Officejet 7310 "steals" my default printer settings

My Officejet 7310 "steals" my default printer settings from two other printers I use. I wish there was a way to have HP respond to me about this but no luck so far. I have installed a little program suggested at another forum - "set default printer" but it doesn't help. When I fax from the 7310, for instance, I get my unpleasant surprise the next time I print .
Any suggestions for a cure, or for getting HP's attention, or both?

  • Printer Driver HP Officejet 7310

I am so frustrated. I have reinstalled the driver for this HP OfficeJet 7310 a zillion times. I have attached a Bluetooth adapter to the USB port on the front of the printer. When I go to Bluetooth Wizard, my PowerBook can see the printer on the configuration screen, but then it says "Driver Not Installed". Obviously, the computer is smarter than the printer and HP's website which offered no help. After speaking to someone in India for 30 minutes, he told me since my printer was just out of warranty it would be $30 to fix the problem. There has to be something that I have overlooked. I have removed the driver, reinstalled, etc. When you Google HP Printers and Driver Issues with Macs, you get tons of feedback. There is obviously a problem. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope>>>>>

Your printer is designed for USB or Ethernet. It is not designed to connect via BlueTooth and the driver you have is not designed for use on a BlueTooth network. If you need to connect to the printer wirelessly then you need to buy a wireless access point that can connect to the printer's USB port or Ethernet port. A wireless access point is an Ethernet device, not a BlueTooth device.
Just because you can connect your mouse and cell phone with BlueTooth doesn't mean every peripheral can. Your mouse and cell phone are designed with BlueTooth communications built-in. Your printer is not. BlueTooth is intended for short-range wireless communications where the communicating devices are not more than 10 meters apart (maximum.) BlueTooth uses different communication protocols than Ethernet.
I suggest you purchase an Airport Express. You can plug it into a nearby AC outlet wherever the printer is located. You can connect the printer to the Airport Express with either a USB cable or an Ethernet cable. The Airport Express User Guide will explain how to configure and set up the Airport Express as a remote access point. Your Powerbook will communicate through the Airport card installed in the computer.
I hope I've made this clear.

  • No longer able to print via wireless network

I have an HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus E710N and have had it connected to my wifi network and working properly for some time now.  Recently, print jobs would queue up and nothing would print b/c it said the printer could not be found on the network.
I deleted the printer from my print preferences and tried to reconnect, but I can't see the printer on the network.
I have powered off the printer, reset the wifi conncetion (printer still sees router), and properly entered the WEP key.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I inadvertently changed my networks name from "esteroal" to HOME-5022.  Both were listed thru EWS.  Now I can no longer access my printer network or EWS since I have no IP address for the new network (HOME-5022).  HELP

  • Software and Driver Installation for HP Officejet 7310 Crash on my new laptop running Windows 8.1

I am trying to load the software and drivers for my hp Officejet 7310 on my brand new Lenovo laptop which runs windows 8.1.  I had successfully loaded the software last week.  Unfortunately I lost the disk drive on my 2 week old computer. The store gave me another brand new Lenovo laptop.  On the new laptop I get errors when I try to load what I think is the same software that I loaded on the other computer a week ago.  I downloaded the software from the hp website.
The driver software download fine.   Originally it then unzipped and a nice interface came up.  I think I clicked the load button.  A message box came up saying that it could not find a certain file in appData\local\temp\7xxx...  I tried the download and install several more times.  I think I then did windows updates and registered my version of office.  I was thinking that with the other computer I must have had the computer in a different state such that the drivers and software installed without a hitch.
Things seem to have gotten worse.  I do not get as far.  It still downloads fine but now after unzipping rather than the nice interface with the "load" button I get the a message box.
The latest error is in a message box with the heading "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".  The error says that Program:c:\users\...\appData\local\temp\7zS4237\setup.exe  This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
I was able to connect the printer through the "add Printers" and am not actually too worried about having the whole "HP Solution" with the scanning interface.  I am worried that this error will cause me problems in the future with other things.  Thanks in advance for any help.
I saw similar issuesdiscussed on the web and have tried several things.  I really do not want to reload the OS and start again.  We have barely used the system and I have no idea how this problem occurred and so I would not know how to prevent it from happening again.  I did stop and start the print service.  I was tempted to "totally unload the hp print drivers" but the file names in the posted instructions did not exactly match my files.  Another post mentioned making sure that I had the latest version of Adobe Flash Player loaded.  I went to the adobe site and it said that it is part of windows 8.1's internet explorer.  I ran the test and it seemed to work.
Could the HP installation failure have corrupted my version of Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Karen_M2,
    Thank you for your response!
The HP software does require the C ++ run-time libraries in order to install correctly. Please see this guide, Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error May Display When Installing Certain Printers.
Here are the differences between the four types of uninstall:
    1
Removes the Windows device discovery (Plug and Play) entries from the Windows registry. After running level 1, connect the USB cable to the all-in-one and let Windows try to discover the device again.
    2
Performs Level 1 and removes the software drivers. After running level 2, run the all-in-one installer and use the "Add a new device" option to attempt to reinstall the all-in-one again.
    3
Performs Levels 1 and 2 and removes the HP Photo and Imaging software. You must completely reinstall the all-in-one software after running level 3.
    4
Performs Levels 1, 2 and 3, and removes HP Software Update. You must completely reinstall the all-in-one software after running level 4.
If you have an HP computer I would not recommend the L4 uninstall as it would also uninstall any other HP software you have installed besides your printer.
Definitely continue going through the post I had provided, Re: Error message Microsoft visual c++ runtime library.
If that still does not resolve your issue, or you cannot uninstall using one of the four methods above, then try the following:
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Clean boot the computer. How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Disable any antivirus programs. How to Disable Antivirus in Windows 8?
Disable any firewall programs. Windows Firewall from start to finish.
Create a new user account. Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 8).
Reinstall using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Hope this information helps, and have a good day!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Now won't print in Black Ink Only!

Hi! After previously owning the Hp Officejet 8500a pro and experiencing numerous issues related to the 'Black Only' printing! We then decided to scrap the HP Officejet 8500a and move on to a new printer! We did a LOT of research into the new printer and at the time of purchasing the 8600 around August 2012 last year, we found no online content of similar issues relating to the 8500.  We even contacted Live HP support to check if the 8600 would print in Black Ink Only with the colours cartridges levels at empty. The HP live chat representative informed us the printer WOULD indeed print in black only with all COLOUR cartridges installed and empty. Since we bought the new 8600, we have replaced just the Black setup cartridge with a Genuine HP Black 950xl. A few days ago all colours where at about 10% levels, apart from the yellow which then ran empty. We have been printing in Black Ink Only with the following message appearing, since the yellow ran out: "Yellow Cartridge out of ink, click continue to print in Black Ink only" As of this morning, the below message appeared with no option to print ink black only! "Depleted cartridges must be replaced to resume printing" The Yellow and now Magenta where out of ink, with no option but to purchase both cartridges, we replaced them and ran off 8 order sheets in Black Ink Only.  Both cartridges where replaced with Genuine HP. Directly after printing these 8 pages, the current Ink Levels are now: Magenta - 100% fullCyan - Has now ran out with a Red X (Annoying!!!)Yellow - Is showing a 10% Ink level with a brand new cartridge installed!!!Black - 40% full 1. Why am I no longer able to print in Black Ink Only with the empty colour cartridges installed?2. Why is the Yellow showing 10% full with a brand new ink cartridge installed full of ink? Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this, I would very much appreciate some imput. Kind RegardsKev Challis

I know it won't print without a cartrige. I was trying to explain that this "problem" is one that needs to be prepared for in advance by not having empty cartriges installed. I am not trying to find a way around the way the printer is made to function. My printer came with the color cartriges that I plan on having for a long time because I rarely need to print anything in color. The link Jason posted clearly states that this printer, being a IIC, needs all cartriges installed in order for it to print. Here is the section:  For example, a driver color setting (by selecting "print in grayscale with the black cartridge only" in printing preferences) specifies printing using only black ink. In addition, many IPH printers can operate in "reserve mode," which allows the user to continue to print with just the black cartridge when the color cartridge is removed or not installed. In HP IIC systems, all supplies are required to be installed in the printer for the printer to function. (empahsis mine) Why it needs all supplies installed to function? I don't know and don't care. Why does it not print with empty color cartriges installed (the first question of the person that started this thread)? I don't know and it doesn't really matter. Have one set of color cartriges on reserve in case one of the ones you have runs out of ink. Don't want to hassle with this "problem"? Own another printer that is not an IIC inkjet printer.

  • OfficeJet 6700 - "Unable to communicate with printer" message after install

I am on a hybrid network with Windows 7, 64-bit. Printer is hard-wired to the router (ethernet) but laptops are wireless. Installation doesn't allow for a hybrid option, just wireless or wired, so I installed as wired.
I just installed the OfficeJet 6700 - installed OK.  I also updated software/firmware during the install process.
Windows' "Devices & Printers" recognizes the HP as being installed.
Printer is able to produce the network configuration page, etc. so we know the printer is functional, but when I try to print I get an "Unable to communicate with printer" message.
Windows' "Devices and Printers" troubleshooter thinks the driver is not installed, but as I mentioned, I just installed software from the CD.
UPDATE: I was able to install & print without problems on my wife's Win7, 64-bit laptop. Something about mine seems to be the issue. Also, HP Print & Scan Doctor reports that everything checks out OK, but when I try to print a test page at the end of the good doctor's diagnosis, I am still "unable to communicate with printer."

Sorry this is so long, but I tried to be through in my testing.
    Followed your suggested steps.
I had previously set a static IP address, but just to be thorough, re-set it again with the same address.
I unplugged the USB cord from the laptop.
I began with the device labeled "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)," which was set as the default printer.
After entering the IP address & clicking Next, it searched the network and returned this message:
    Additional port information required
The device could not be identified.
The device is not found on the network. Be sure that:
    1. The device is turned on.
    The network is connected.
    The device is properly configured.
The address on the previous page is correct. (re: the page where the IP address is entered)
If you are sure the address is correct, select the device type below.
I selected Standard (Generic Network Card) and clicked Next.
Summary dialog appeared and I clicked Finish.
    Clicked OK/Apply.
Attempted to print. Like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing.
Right-clicked on the "Copy 1" device and selected Troubleshoot. Returned the message: Make printer "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700 the default printer" - even though this copy is already the default printer. (Usually when the original copy is set as the default, this copy is automatically re-named "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700.") I chose "Apply this fix."
Summary page said "Troubleshooting has completed." I closed the troubleshooter and attempted to print. I closed the Devices & Printers window so it could refresh. Re-opened Devices & Printers. Now the default printer is named "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700." The other device is grayed out and is simply named "HP OfficeJet 6700."
Attempted to print. (I'm testing w/ Notepad and .txt files)
I have 3 choices in the Notepad's printer dialog box but only 2 devices showing in the Devices & Printers window:
~ "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700" - This is the default printer in the Devices and Printers window. I clicked on Print & rec'd an error message: "Send Fax - HP Officejet 6700. There is a problem communicating with the Printer. Check your USB connection & verify that the printer is ready." Notepad's print dialog box shows status as Offline. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700." When I choose this printer option, Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Paused - Offline." I clicked on "Print" anyway, and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This is the printer that shows as grayed out in the Devices & Printers window. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)." There is no printer by this name in the Devices and Printers window even tho' it shows in Notepad's print dialog box. Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Ready." In Devices & Printers, when I right-click on the one labeled "Fax OfficeJet 6700" (the default device) and choose "See what's printing," 2 HP devices are listed - the one labeled "Copy 1" and the one labeled "Fax." I clicked on "Print" and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
I plugged in the USB cord again and re-ran the same series of tests.
~ "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700" - This is still the default printer in the Devices and Printers window. Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Ready." The fax window opened, waiting me to enter the recipient's name, add a cover sheet, etc. I closed the fax window. The .txt file was in the print queue for the "Fax" device, so I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700." When I choose this printer option, Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Paused - Offline." I clicked on "Print" anyway, and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This is grayed out in the Devices & Printers window. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)." Again, there is no printer by this name in the Devices and Printers window even tho' it shows in Notepad's print dialog box. This is one of 2 choices in the device labeled "Fax" - the default device. Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Ready." I clicked on "Print" and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
Next, I used the printer's touch screen interface and turned the wireless connection off, leaving the USB cord plugged in.
~ "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700" - Status: Ready. The fax window opened, same as before. I closed the fax window & canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 - Status: Paused - Offline. I clicked on "Print" anyway, and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This one shows as grayed out in the Devices & Printers window. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)" - Status: Error. I clicked Apply, then Print. Again, this is one of 2 choices in the device labeled "Fax" - the default device. Like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
Reconnected to the wireless network & verified that the IP address had not changed.
Tried again to print using "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)" - Status: Ready. I clicked Print and again, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This is still listed as one of 2 choices in the device labeled "Fax" - the default device." Like before, I canceled all documents in the print queue.
Next, I right-clicked on the one labeled "Fax OfficeJet 6700" (the default device) and choose "See what's printing" and selected the device labeled "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)." In the print queue window, when I click on "Printer, one of my options is "Set as Default Printer." As soon as I did that, the device in the Devices & Printers window was renamed as "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)" - no longer named "Fax." I tried to print again. Once again, file was sent to the print queue but never printed.

  • HP officejet 7310 fax will not complete

I have a problem with outgoing faxes.  Sending fax, the dialer reaches the number and connects and the fax starts processing.  Screen says Faxing Page 1.  Stops there.  Line is held open and never finishes the fax.  Need to cancel to get phone line back.  A fax sent to the HP test line is fine but no other numbers work to fax to.  Fax test says all pass.  I am on a Comcast VOIP.

    Hey @Ggrib,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing an issue when sending faxes from your HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One Printer when using a VOIP telephone line. I would like to offer my assistance today with a possible resolution for this faxing issue. The reason that I can only offer you a possible resolution is because of your VOIP telephone line. Faxing is old analog technology. Nowadays phone companies offer digital lines, like your VOIP line. Digital lines are OK to use but there is a lot more static noise interference on those lines and the transmission rate of data over those digital lines is much faster than analog. These faster transmission speeds can also cause fax packets to be lost when sending or receiving faxes and result in a fax communication error. There are settings we can adjust on your HP Officejet to eliminate as much noise interference from the line and slow down the transmission speeds. However, faxing is not guaranteed to work with the VOIP Service - (Source). With that being said, please follow the steps below to adjust the appropriate settings.
    Step 1: Adjust Fax Speed:
Press the Setup button () on the product control panel.
Press the down arrow () to select Advanced Fax Setup, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select Fax Speed, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select Slow, and then press OK.
Step 2: Disable Error Correction Mode:
Press the Setup button () on the product control panel.
Press the down arrow () to select Advanced Fax Setup, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select Error Correction Mode, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select OFF, and then press OK.
Now that the settings have been adjusted, please try sending a fax again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • Can a "OfficeJet 7310" "scanner failure" be repaired?

I first received the "scanner failure" error on my OfficeJet 7310 while trying to scan a document; the machine made a loud noise that sounded like gears slipping and advised that I should "turn off power and then turn on" which, of course did not change anything. I was able to print from applications like Word. Now the error occurs at printer startup and will not allow any operation; this appears as though it is a hardware issue.

What to do?  Can the scanner failure be repaired on my office jet 7410 all in one?
