HP Officejet 8600 fax issues

I have an 8600 printer with fax capability - however - when I've tried to fax, I get a message saying I need to 'load' the software from the CD. I would - if I could find the CD. Any way to resolve this issue via a download some other way? Please help!

This is a new HP 8600 that I bought a while ago and set up. it has never faxed and now I'm a little up set. I have FIOS and I have a DSL filter on the phone end. It dials and the other phone with go to tone but my machine won't handshake and connect. It has passed all the test. I have tried both from the printer itself and the computer and the same result. Had to go pay to fax some important documents but that's why I bought this printer. I've had on in the past with no problems. Any suggestions. BTW, I'm computer savye

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @that4u2c ,
I read your post about your Fax functions not working properly from your Officejet 8600 model. My suggestion would be to try out the troubleshooting steps for this type of issue from the guide below.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and if you are calling outside of the US/Canada region,: click here.

  • OfficeJet 8600 Premium - Faxes Only Printing from Tray 2

I'm running into an issue with an OfficeJet 8600 Premium on OS X (Lion), but this shouldn't be OS specific.
It appears that incoming faxes are requiring tray 2, even though the default tray is set to 1 and the media lock is off. The printer reports that it's out of paper, even though Tray 1 is full.
I've removed the lower tray assy, checked the paper size settings within the trays, set the default to 2 and back to 1, set the media lock on 2 with the default on 1, rebooted the printer and computer, but nothing seems to make a change in how incoming faxes are printed.
I am successfully able to print from tray 1 with normal print jobs. For some reason, the fax portion of the printer just defaults to tray 2, and I can't find where I can reset that to tray 1...or to follow the defaults of the machine.
    Any thoughts?

so you are telling me the default is tray2 only and the software does not allow you to choose like ALL prior hp!!!!  This is the dumbest software i have ever seen...i have stuggled with this for over a year to only hear that hp decided what i should do!!!!  all my programs select tray 1 for regular paper and tray 2 for medical claims!  yes it is used for two different types of paper....i do not want to change hundreds of documents because hp decided where i should default print and fax from!  is there a fix to allow me the user to select where i would like things printed from....thanks....how stupid are you hp!!!!  why would you take away choices so basic as to where a fax is printed from.....

  • Officejet Pro 8600. faxes being sent or received are being cut off.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 8600. Most (8 out of 10) faxes being sent or received are being cut off.  I or they only receive half the sheet.  HELP!!!

Hello bonnie753, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are having fax issues.  I would like to assist.  Are you using the fax line that come with the printer? Are you plugged direct into a telephone wall jack or are you running into a modem?  Do you have anything between the printer and the wall jack on the fax line?
I would suggest performing a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest changing a few settings under your fax menu on the front panel of the printer:
    -Go to your setup menu
    -Select Fax settings
    -Set fax speed to slow
    -Turn off Error Correction Mode
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Hp officejet j4580 Fax sending issue

I can send faxes to 800- numbers but when I use an area code, I hear a ring and then my landline phone clicks on, evidently to intercept the fax and the fax machine rings for a while and then quits.

    Hi there @PGROWTH ,
    Welcome to the forums
I read about the faxing issues you're having with your Officejet J4580 when sending a fax to a number either than a 1-800 number.
I would suggest trying these steps in this guide: Can Receive Faxes But Cannot Send Them
    Also try a power reset:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your fax issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in. • Officejet 8600 pro plus time zone issue

has anyone successfully set the time zone on the Officejet 8600 pro plus? There's a webpage for the device to setup the local date & time - it has a nebulous button to 'set the time zone to the same as you computer' or something like that.. I can't get it to work under Win7 IE or firefox - the printer seems to always be stuck in UTC. That means I have to set the printers local time to UTC to make the timestamps of email scans appear correct. Any ideas? It seems like older officejets had an option to explicitly set the time zone from the device's webpage but that's gone. BTW.. I've upgraded to the latest firmware (v CLP1CN1150CR - 15-feb-2012), but the problem persists.

You should be able to do that via the LCD panel from the printer.
    Setup->Tools->Preferences
Setup is in second page after the home screen.

  • Officejet 8600 Pro+ Power-switch lamp cycling bright then dim

My Officejet 8600 Pro+ printer is brand new, and is connected via my wired network. It's working perfectly so far. Wi-Fi and fax are both (deliberately) turned off / disabled & not needed.
The Power-switch has a nice green light to indicate that the printer has "power" OK - and the lamp seems to have two "on" states, namely 'dim', and 'bright'.
The printer seems to go into "Sleep Mode" OK, and the control panel turns off as expected after my preset "Sleep" interval. (I'm not using the scheduling options.)  It also wakes-up OK when I send it a print job.  Again, everything is fine so far ...
While the printer is in this low-power 'ECO' state, the intensity of the green Power-switch lamp varies slowly between bright and dim, on a roughly 6-second cycle - 3 seconds at 'bright', then 3 seconds at 'dim', and it never stops cycling - bright then dim then bright etc..
BUT ... and here's my question ... should this lamp be staying 'dim' while the printer is asleep?
Or, does the fact that it is returning to 'bright' every few seconds imply that it is somehow failing to STAY fully 'asleep'?
I can't find any clues about this in the printer's manual.
Perhaps I should raise a query with the HP Support folks, but I thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks in anticipation. Edited to add:
I'd be glad to know whether any other Officejet 8600 owner (or the owner of any other Officejet model) sees this same bright/dim behaviour on their Power-switch lamp?  Thanks.

Thanks pcwizard, I got the same reply yesterday from my HP Customer Care enquiry, and I'm satisfied now that my machine isn't cycling repeatedly into sleep mode and then 3 seconds later coming half "out" of sleep mode! I know the HP design folks may never look at these Forum entries, but I'd hint to them that perhaps this ambiguous "sleep" indication might be made an optional choice, so that I could choose a steady low-intensity light instead.  It's not an enormous issue of course, but in my little "office" space, this Power button is right in my line-of-sight as I work, and - even though I now know that my printer is perfectly healthy - the slowly-pulsing light had become a recurring distraction until I covered it with a little 'disc' of semi-opaque sticky tape   Thanks again.Colin

  • Officejet 8600 Pro drivers - Windows 7 64 bit

Odd problem - my 8600 works perfectly on all levels - printing, scanning and faxing.
My problem is my computer hasn't been shutting down properly and I have had all sorts of Windows type issues.  When I viewed the event log for when it was trying to shutdown, I found a zillion errors associated with the HP drivers not being found ect.
Upon investigation, I find in my device manager, under 'other devices", the 8600 listed with the yellow trouble triangle.  When I try to repair, it claims no drivers, when I try to install the drivers, it claims it finds them but they can't be installed because they are unsigned.  How is this possible when every thing is working.
Also, the HP is listed 3 times in under the 'other devices' - once as officejet 8600 and 2 more times as unknown device.
I have tried completely uninstalling the whole thing and reinstalling but it reinstalled exactly the same.
    Any ideas?????

    Hi @darnit7
    I would like to help you with this, I found something I am confident will help. Please try the following;
Check that your virus checker is up to date and then run a complete virus scan.
If you do not have a Malware scanner such as Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org) I would install one and run a complete scan and remove any malware that is found.
After these two steps reboot and then try a fresh uninstall and reinstall.

  • Does the Officejet 8600 Pro Premium N911n printer perform auto tray selection?

I have an Officejet 8600 Pro Pemium N911n printer,  CN577A with two trays. My Operating Sysem is Win8,64bit,there are no error messages, no system changes.
The HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in One series User Guide states that By default, the printer draws media from Tray1.If Tray1 is empty, the printer draws media from Tray2(if it is installed and loaded with media. I have Tray lock disabled ,Tay1 the default Tray and Automatic Tray Selection enabled.Prior to making these selections,I contacted HP support via email to report that this option was not working. I received a response that there is no method that will automatically select a tray when one tray is empty. The User 's manual states otherwise..This option might not work but it is part of this series of printers. I have both trays loaded and I will determine if it works after Tray1 is empty. Does anyone have one of these printers and the auto Tray function works? Thanks.

  • HP officejet 7310 fax will not complete

I have a problem with outgoing faxes.  Sending fax, the dialer reaches the number and connects and the fax starts processing.  Screen says Faxing Page 1.  Stops there.  Line is held open and never finishes the fax.  Need to cancel to get phone line back.  A fax sent to the HP test line is fine but no other numbers work to fax to.  Fax test says all pass.  I am on a Comcast VOIP.

    Hey @Ggrib,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing an issue when sending faxes from your HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One Printer when using a VOIP telephone line. I would like to offer my assistance today with a possible resolution for this faxing issue. The reason that I can only offer you a possible resolution is because of your VOIP telephone line. Faxing is old analog technology. Nowadays phone companies offer digital lines, like your VOIP line. Digital lines are OK to use but there is a lot more static noise interference on those lines and the transmission rate of data over those digital lines is much faster than analog. These faster transmission speeds can also cause fax packets to be lost when sending or receiving faxes and result in a fax communication error. There are settings we can adjust on your HP Officejet to eliminate as much noise interference from the line and slow down the transmission speeds. However, faxing is not guaranteed to work with the VOIP Service - (Source). With that being said, please follow the steps below to adjust the appropriate settings.
    Step 1: Adjust Fax Speed:
Press the Setup button () on the product control panel.
Press the down arrow () to select Advanced Fax Setup, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select Fax Speed, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select Slow, and then press OK.
Step 2: Disable Error Correction Mode:
Press the Setup button () on the product control panel.
Press the down arrow () to select Advanced Fax Setup, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select Error Correction Mode, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow () to select OFF, and then press OK.
Now that the settings have been adjusted, please try sending a fax again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • Hp officejet 8610 fax sends out more pages than scanned - received partial output on remote end

Hp officejet 8610 fax sends out more pages than scanned - received partial output on remote end

    Hi,
How long is a page on the sender side?  If it is a long page like a legal page, it may end up in in 2 pages in the receiver side. Also check on the receiver end, if it is set to 'auto reduction - off' this may happen, try turning it "on".
Also if the sender page is not a long page, try observing the paper that is going into the ADF, it should be 1 page at a time, if pages goes into the ADF continueously, it suggest that ADF is could be faulty.
Set automatic reduction for incoming faxes (for HP printers only)
The Automatic Reduction setting determines what the printer does if it receives a fax that is too large
for the default paper size. This setting is turned on by default, so the image of the incoming fax is
reduced to fit on one page, if possible. If this feature is turned off, information that does not fit on the
first page is printed on a second page. Automatic Reduction is useful when you receive a Legal-size
fax and Letter-size paper is loaded in the main tray.
To set automatic reduction from the printer control panel
    1. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and then
    touch Setup.
    2. Touch Fax Setup.
    3. Touch Advanced Fax Setup.
    4. Touch Automatic Reduction to turn on or off.

  • Officejet 8600 driver won't install on a 64-bit Server 2008 R2

Hello, this has been discussed before but it looks like the links with resolutions are dead.  A client has an Officejet 8600 all-in-one printer and wants to use the 2008 R2 64-bit server as a desktop with the printer directly attached.  One of the proposed solutions was to install Desktop Expeirence, which I did, but still no go.  I get a message that the drivers are only for Win XP, 2003, and Vista - the current system is not compatible.  The problem is, the drivers are downloaded from the HP site when 2008 R2 64-bit is specified.  Are there any workarounds, or should I just consider this printer uninstallable?  Thanks.

Hi Stephen00101010 , sorry to hear that you are unable to get the printer installed. I do apologize for the inconvenience, however the operating system that you are using is not supported with the use of this printer.
